Iran is reviewing a proposed agreement with the US to halt their war but has not communicated with ‌Washington for a few days, Iranian media reported yesterday, though US President Donald Trump said negotiations had been going on continuously.Iran has not yet responded ‌to a proposed final text of a temporary deal, and was taking ‌a "stern" approach given what it sees as a history of US non-compliance and longstanding mistrust, Mehr News Agency cited a source as saying.The semi-official Fars ⁠agency, also citing a source, added that messages on the possible deal, or memorandum of understanding, had stopped a few days ago, with the last one being Tehran's "clear message" over Lebanon, where Iran is seeking a halt to Israel's incursion against its ally Hezbollah.Trump said that suggestion was "false and erroneous" and that the conversations between the two sides had continued without a pause."The conversations between us have been going on continuously, including four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago, and today," he said in a social media post.He made similar comments on Monday, before the Iranian report.Yesterday, Israel kept up strikes on a string of towns in southern Lebanon, Lebanese security sources said, despite a US-mediated partial ceasefire announced on Monday.Trump said on Monday there would be a deal with Iran over the next week to extend a ceasefire agreed in early April ​and reopen the strait. Since mid-March, he has repeatedly said he is close to a deal, which would postpone thorny issues including the future of Iran's nuclear programme. A ceasefire has largely held since early April, but Iran and the US have exchanged strikes several times over the past week.US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers ‌yesterday that Iran had agreed to negotiate aspects ⁠of its nuclear programme that it previously ​refused to discuss, but added that was not a guarantee that negotiations would lead to a deal. Trump has said stopping ​Iran acquiring nuclear weapons was his top priority. Iran has always denied wanting to build a nuclear bomb, saying its atomic programme is for peaceful purposes only.Rubio, who is also Trump's national security adviser, said in testimony to ​Congress that the US negotiating team had not offered Iran sanctions relief in exchange for reopening the strait, though he said that was the first condition it must meet."Iran is being sanctioned because they've highly enriched uranium. Iran is being sanctioned because of their nuclear activities. If they agree to give up those things, there will be sanctions relief associated with their commitment and compliance with those agreements," he said.Oil prices edged up to a one-week high yesterday. It also triggered the latest round of conflict between Israel and Lebanese group Hezbollah, with Israel pursuing its deepest incursion into Lebanon in 25 years. A US-mediated partial ceasefire announced on Monday did nothing to halt the attacks.A ceasefire would entail Israel refraining from strikes on Beirut and Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, while the group would halt attacks on Israel. But the announcement failed to reassure many ‌Lebanese, 1.2mn of whom have been displaced, and the ‌din of an Israeli drone over Beirut kept residents on ⁠edge yesterday."Every time we return to our homes, there is a warning for us to be displaced again," said Faten al-Chehime, who fled to ⁠a displacement camp from her home in Beirut's southern suburbs on Monday, ⁠only two weeks after returning there.Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said yesterday that 24 vessels had transited the strait in the past 24 hours, after obtaining permission from the Guards' navy. Highlighting the risk at sea, the world's largest shipping group MSC said yesterday that one of its vessels was struck by two projectiles while in Iraq's Umm Qasr port the previous day. The Revolutionary Guards said they carried out the attack in retaliation for a US attack on an Iranian vessel in the Gulf of Oman. 

US President Donald Trump said he was making his final decision on a potential deal with Iran on Friday, as Tehran insisted any agreement on ending the Middle East war hinged on Washington dropping its "excessive demands". Iran's top negotiator had said earlier Tehran would only trust Washington's actions, not its words, after US Vice President JD Vance said progress had been made on a deal to extend a ceasefire and provide a framework for peace talks. US sources told AFP the deal was just waiting on Trump's sign-off following weeks of halting negotiations to end a conflict that had engulfed the Middle East and shaken the global economy."I will be meeting now, in the Situation Room, to make a final determination," Trump said in a lengthy social media post, reiterating long-held demands that Iran agree never to have nuclear weapons and open the vital Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes. He said Tehran would remove mines in the strait, the US would lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports, and the two countries would coordinate on removing and destroying Iran's enriched uranium, though he did not clarify whether the points had already been agreed or were part of the deal under consideration.  

-Iranian state television said on Wednesday a draft framework deal with the United States included a commitment to lift the naval blockade on Iran, restore traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and the US to withdraw its forces from the Gulf region. Tehran and Washington have in recent days been swapping proposals to end the war, which broke out on February 28, while a fragile ceasefire has been in place since April 8.The report cited what it described as a draft outline of a potential memorandum of understanding, while noting that the text was "still not finalised".Iran has since kept a tight control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy conduit, while the US has imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports and coasts since April 13."The United States has committed itself to lifting Iran's naval blockade and to cease harassing ships passing to or from the Islamic Republic of Iran," the state TV report said.In return Iran would allow commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz to resume as it had before the war within one month, according to the draft.On the withdrawal of US troops from the region, the draft said Washington had given "a commitment to the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding this issue".Following agreement on the framework, Tehran and Washington would enter a 60-day negotiation period, the draft said, without specifying which issues would be discussed."If negotiations reach a final agreement during the 60-day period, this agreement is expected to be approved by a binding resolution of the United Nations Security Council," it added
