The Food Security and Environment Committee of Qatar Chamber recently held a meeting to discuss the challenges facing the country’s private sector during the current regional developments.The meeting, presided over by Qatar Chamber board member Mohammed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli, who is also committee chairman, reviewed key proposals and solutions on the movement of trade, ensuring the flow of goods and products into the country.Representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Qatar Airways, and the General Authority of Customs, as well as a number of business owners and representatives of food companies attended the meeting.The agenda also included discussions on the measures taken by the public sector to address the current situation, their effectiveness and impact on the private sector, as well as mechanisms to tackle import-related challenges, rising prices, and increased shipping and operational costs.It also included ways to enhance the sustainability of local production and ensure the availability of essential goods under these circumstances, in addition to the role of GCC chambers in accelerating the flow of goods and services across GCC countries.Al-Obaidli lauded the public sector’s responsiveness in addressing private sector challenges, noting that the chamber has received several concerns related to transportation, logistics, and storage. He reviewed several key topics, such as the emergency plan, joint data on strategic storage and shared procurement.He underscored the chamber’s commitment to presenting the concerns of the private sector to the Federation of GCC Chambers to address them with the relevant authorities to expedite the movement of trade.Al-Obaidli further emphasised the pivotal role of the private sector during the current crisis and its commitment to working closely with government entities to address the challenges and repercussions arising from the situation.He noted that the chamber will launch several initiatives in the coming period, in collaboration with government agencies, aimed at facilitating procedures and enhancing coordination between the public and private sectors.Hamad al-Marri, director of the Land Transport Licensing Department at the Ministry of Transport, stated that the ministry has held several meetings with transport and logistics companies to identify the challenges facing the sector. He noted that several measures have been implemented, such as allowing empty Qatari trucks to enter neighbouring countries. He also praised the steps taken by GCC countries to facilitate truck movement.Yousef al-Hammadi, director of the Land Customs Department at the General Authority of Customs, stated that the authority is coordinating with GCC customs authorities to facilitate the smooth movement of commercial shipments through various ports and to meet local market demands efficiently amid current regional challenges.He added: “The authority has implemented a number of flexible and proactive measures to ensure the continuity of supply chains, most notably a recently issued circular temporarily allowing the use of copies of official documents for customs declarations until the original documents are submitted, thereby accelerating customs clearance procedures.”Ali al-Yafei from the Department of Specific Licensing and Market Control at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, affirmed the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the availability of goods in markets and facilitating their access through various outlets.He also reviewed the mechanisms for registering goods by companies through the goods and services registration system for monitoring purposes. Al-Yafei noted that the ministry, in co-operation with the private sector and in its capacity as a member of the committee responsible for overseeing the implementation of food security policies, and in co-ordination with the Civil Defense Council, has identified alternative supply routes monthly to ensure their readiness for use when needed.Al-Yafei further explained that the ministry has held several key meetings since the early stages of the crisis, including meetings with logistics companies across land, sea, and air transport, as well as with major suppliers of consumer goods and leading manufacturers.

The Qatar Chamber Industry Committee met Sunday to discuss the challenges facing the industrial sector under the current circumstances and reviewed a number of proposed solutions.The meeting, presided over by Qatar Chamber board member Abdulrahman al-Ansari, who is also committee chairman, examined several key issues related to the sector, including the strategic stock of essential goods, obstacles to the availability of certain raw materials, rising shipping costs, and the suspension of some export operations, as well as logistical challenges and labour shortages.Al-Ansari said the meeting comes within the framework of emergency meetings of the chamber’s sectoral committees, under the directives of Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani, to identify the challenges facing the private sector and coordinate with the relevant authorities to address them.He lauded the state’s efforts to address economic challenges, particularly in ensuring the availability of strategic goods, raw materials, and food supplies, especially through the establishment of direct shipping lines with operational ports in the region.During the meeting, committee members stressed the importance of unifying shipping rates and providing banking facilities, including the postponement of loan installments for local companies. 

The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Ramadan tournament got underway on Tuesday evening with men’s shooting competitions (individual and family categories) and men’s singles table tennis matches. The tournament, organised for QOC employees and their families, runs until March 5 at the Lusail International Shooting Complex, in a vibrant Ramadan atmosphere filled with unity, energy, and sporting spirit.The opening day featured shooting and table tennis competitions, along with traditional games and recreational activities for children. A range of community services were also provided by the Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan), Qatar Diabetes Association, Cyber Sports Events Center, and Naseem Medical Centre. The program included an Olympic quiz segment and the distribution of prizes to participants.In the shooting (singles) event, Khalid Nasser al-Rumaihi claimed first place, while Mohammed Ahmed al-Rumaihi finished second. In the shooting (doubles) event, the duo of Khalid Nasser al-Rumaihi and Abdulrahman al-Rumaihi secured first place, with Salem Abdulhalim and Abdulrahman Abdulhalim coming in second. Meanwhile, in the men’s table tennis singles event, Mohammed Abdulsalam captured first place, while Khalid Al-Akkad finished as runner-up.This year’s tournament includes five diverse sports: shooting, table tennis (introduced for the first time), padel, football (making its debut), and beach volleyball. The variety reflects the QOC’s commitment to expanding its sports programs and enhancing competitiveness and renewal in each edition.Football competitions will take place on March 1 and 2, featuring teams from the General Secretariat, the Shooting Federation, the Procurement and Logistics Department, the Public Relations Department, and the Sports Events Department. Beach volleyball matches will be held from March 3 and 5, with teams representing the President’s Office, Sports Events Department, Procurement and Logistics Department, Shooting Federation, Public Relations Department, and Sports Affairs Department.Mana Ahmed al-Jael, Director of the QOC Ramadan Tournament 2026, confirmed that this year’s edition includes 250 participants. He explained that the addition of table tennis and football came in response to a staff survey, allowing participants to select sports that suit their physical abilities and personal interests.He also noted that the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation, as the host entity, will participate for the first time in football and beach volleyball competitions, after successfully hosting five previous Ramadan editions at its venues. 

Former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton has accused President Donald Trump of orchestrating a "cover-up" over files related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to an interview with the BBC published on Monday."Get the files out. They are slow-walking it," Clinton, who is due to testify before a Congressional committee on the issue, told the British broadcaster in an interview in Berlin.The US Justice Department last month released the latest cache of so-called Epstein files – more than 3mn documents, photos and videos related to its investigation into sex criminal Epstein, who died from what was determined to be suicide while in custody in 2019.Clinton's husband, former president Bill Clinton, features regularly in the files, but no evidence has come to light implicating either Clinton in criminal activity.The couple has been ordered to give closed-door depositions before the House Oversight Committee, which is probing the deceased financier's connections to powerful figures and how information about his crimes was handled."We will show up but we think it would be better to have it in public," Hillary Clinton told the BBC. "I just want it to be fair. I want everybody treated the same way."The former secretary of state said she and her husband "have nothing to hide. We have called for the full release of these files repeatedly”.The Department of Justice has said it has no more files to release, though lawmakers have criticised it for not publishing internal government memos, notes and e-mails on Epstein.Clinton said the Republicans probing her are trying to deflect attention away from Trump, whose name is also mentioned in the files many times."Look at this shiny object. We're going to have the Clintons, even Hillary Clinton, who never met the guy," she said.Trump denies any wrongdoing. Mere mention in the files is not proof of having committed a crime.Former president Clinton has acknowledged flying on Epstein's plane in the early 2000s for Clinton Foundation-related humanitarian work, but said he never visited Epstein's private island.Hillary Clinton, who ran against Trump for president in 2016, has said she had no meaningful interactions with Epstein, never flew on his plane and never visited his island.In the interview with the BBC, she said she had met Ghislaine Maxwell, an Epstein associate who was convicted of conspiring with him to abuse minors, "on a few occasions”.Responding to Clinton's comment that the congressional testimony was a bid to create a distraction, Trump denied it, telling reporters on Monday evening he had been "totally exonerated”.Hillary Clinton will appear for her deposition on February 26, while Bill Clinton will appear on February 27. 

The Organising Committee of the School Olympic Program (SOP) held a ceremony to honour promising athletes, who joined Qatar’s national teams through the program.The event was attended by Mohamed bin Yousef al-Mana, First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC); Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman al-Kuwari, Second Vice President of the QOC; Secretary-General Jassim bin Rashid al-Buenain, and Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani, Chairman of the Organising Committee of the SOP, along with several presidents and representatives of sports federations.A total of 24 male and female athletes were honoured during the ceremony. These talents were identified and developed through the SOP and have successfully represented Qatar’s national teams across seven sports: football, hockey, rugby, volleyball, shooting, and tennis.Al-Mana expressed his appreciation to His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, President of the QOC, for his continued support of the SOP. He noted that this backing reflects a clear vision and a sustainable investment in the development of Qatari sport by focusing on identifying and nurturing young talent within an integrated institutional framework.Al-Mana emphasized that the SOP represents one of the fundamental pathways in building a strong sporting base to support national teams in the future. He added that the inclusion of several players in the national squads is the result of joint efforts between sports and educational institutions.He also stressed the importance of providing an appropriate environment and continuous technical and administrative support to enable these athletes to continue their sporting journeys with confidence and stability, and to achieve further success that elevates Qatar’s name at regional and international competitions.Al-Buenain affirmed that the program has become a cornerstone in discovering sporting talent across various disciplines. He noted that the athletes honoured have demonstrated distinguished technical levels and proved their readiness to transition to higher competitive stages in the coming period.In his address during the ceremony, Sheikh Khalifa stated: “This gathering is not merely a recognition ceremony; it represents a milestone in evaluating and acknowledging the success of the Talent Identification Project, one of the executive initiatives within the School Olympic Program. The project was designed to serve as an organized link between the school, the sports federation, and the national team, within a clear and integrated pathway for champion development.”He added that the Ministry of Education has played a pivotal role in this system by empowering the school environment, supporting program implementation, and enhancing the role of schools and physical education teachers in the early identification and nomination of talent according to clear standards. He noted that the School Olympic Program then structures the discovery process, unifies procedures, and ensures a systematic transition of talented athletes from the school environment to the competitive pathway within an approved technical and administrative framework. 

Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah received His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia and President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, during his official visit to Kuwait. During the meeting, the Kuwaiti Amir extended his congratulations to HE Sheikh Joaan on his election as President of the Olympic Council of Asia, affirming Kuwait’s full support for the relevant institutions and for the OCA in a manner that contributes to further strengthening and advancing the sports movement across the Asian continent.HE Sheikh Joaan was also received by Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah, who congratulated him on his election and wished him continued success in serving and elevating the Asian sports movement. 

Qatar participated in the 104th session of the Standing Committee for Arab Media in Kuwait Tuesday, with the participation of representatives from media ministries and authorities in Arab countries. The session was held in preparation for the meeting of the Council of Arab Information Ministers and to follow up on the implementation of joint Arab media strategies and plans. The Qatari delegation was headed by Director of the Office of International Co-operation and Agreements at the Qatar Media Corporation Abdullah Ghanem al-Binali al-Mohannadi. The session addressed a number of priority media issues, most notably strengthening the role of Arab media in supporting the Palestinian cause, countering misleading narratives, and intensifying international media efforts to highlight the suffering of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights. The committee also discussed developments in the digital media landscape, particularly the use of artificial intelligence technologies in media work, the ethics of its use, and ways to combat the phenomenon of misinformation, rumours, and hate speech on digital platforms. At the end of its meeting, the committee presented a set of recommendations and proposals for approval by the Council of Arab Information Ministers, which will contribute to strengthening joint Arab media co-ordination, keeping pace with the rapid transformations in the media sector, and consolidating the presence of Arab media regionally and internationally.
