Qatar Chamber recently concluded its ‘Young Investor’ training programme, which was held over three days at the chamber’s headquarters with the participation of several young people. The training was organised as part of the chamber’s ongoing efforts to promote financial literacy and enhance economic awareness among the younger generation. It aimed to introduce children and young people to the basics of saving, money management, and investment through interactive learning methods that included knowledge and practical application, helping participants develop a sound understanding of financial concepts in a simple and engaging manner. The programme featured a series of workshops and practical activities focused on developing financial planning skills, promoting sound financial decision-making, and encouraging participants to adopt a culture of saving and investment from an early age. Fatima Issa al-Kuwari, head of Training and Development at Qatar Chamber, said the initiative reflects the chamber’s commitment to investing in the development of future generations by instilling financial literacy from an early age, enabling young people to make informed financial decisions in the future. She noted that the programme was designed using an interactive approach that combined learning with enjoyment, making financial concepts more accessible while strengthening participants’ understanding of saving, money management, and investment.

The Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), a member of Qatar Foundation, and the Young Entrepreneurs Club (YEC), which operates under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, has launched the “QSTP x YEC Summer Bootcamp 2026”, a hands-on programme in technology and startup building designed to turn ideas into companies.The first session attracted 124 attendees from across Qatar, with 60% female participation, bringing together university students, fresh graduates, aspiring entrepreneurs, and technology enthusiasts.Running from July 27 to August 19, the bootcamp brings participants through 13 sessions covering every stage of building a company.Early sessions introduce participants to how the startup world works and help them reframe their thinking around real problems worth solving, before moving into business models and revenue, and a structured critique process that pushes participants to stress test their ideas.Later sessions cover how investors evaluate opportunities, the local deep tech landscape, and how to build ventures around measurable impact, followed by product development, go to market strategy, storytelling, and pitching in front of an audience.The programme closes with an introduction to what comes next through the QSTP's incubation offering, and a rehearsal presentation ahead of the Hackathon.Sessions are led by founders, investors, and industry experts from organisations including Alchemist Doha, TeKnowledge, QLUB, Ibtechar, and HostX, alongside the QSTP's own programme team.Participants will also take part in a QSTP ecosystem tour and a rehearsal Demo Day ahead of the programme's closing Hackathon, set for August 20-21, where teams will pitch their startup concepts to a live panel of judges.The closing keynote will focus on how artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way startups are built and scaled."Every year, the Summer Bootcamp shows us just how much talent is out there, waiting for the right platform,” said QSTP business development director Eng. Ahmed al-Said. “Our role is to equip these participants with the tools, mentorship, and access to Qatar's innovation ecosystem they need to turn a rough idea into something real.”“We look forward to seeing what this cohort builds over the next four weeks,” he added."This bootcamp reflects the Club's ongoing efforts to empower young people and equip them with the practical tools needed to transform innovative ideas into scalable and sustainable ventures,” said YEC vice-president Abdulrahman al-Emadi.“We are proud of our partnership with Qatar Science & Technology Park and of the support and collaboration of our partners in delivering an experience that combines knowledge, practical application, and direct engagement with industry experts,” he said. “Through this initiative, we aim to contribute to preparing a generation capable of leading the future of innovation and entrepreneurship in Qatar."Following the bootcamp, participants will be introduced to the QSTP Incubation Pathway, offering a clear route to continue developing their ventures beyond the programme.  

Lucas Herbert stormed into the lead at the British Open on Friday after the Australian and American Sam Burns equalled the record for the lowest round in major golf history on Friday with eight-under par 62s.Herbert leads by two shots from overnight leader Jackson Suber and world number four Cameron Young. But the world number 97 doubled over his putter in anguish as a short attempt for par on the 18th slipped by with the chance to become the first man to post a major round of 61.Burns followed suit less than an hour later after six birdies on the back nine, including a chip on from the bunker on 18, to move to five under for the tournament.Herbert, who has spent the last two years on the breakaway LIV tour, began the day at level par.Under glorious sunshine in Southport on England's north-west coast, the 30-year-old got off to a flying start with birdies on his opening three holes and added three more at the fifth, seventh and ninth to hit the turn in 28, a British Open record for the front nine.His momentum continued with birdies at the 12th and 13th before a perfect approach set up another three at the par-four 16th for a shot at history. WAYWARD TEE SHOTDespite a wayward tee shot at the last, he should still have scrambled for a par but the moment in front of huge crowds seemed to get to Herbert as two tentative putts resulted in his first bogey of the day."I'm a golf nerd anyway, so I know all the numbers, all the records, everything like that," said Herbert, who claimed he thought a 61 was a possibility from as early as his third hole."That's a really cool list to be a part of. Even that whole back nine today, it was not lost on me the amount of history in major championships and the opportunity I had to obviously break the record. To tie it as well is still something I'm really proud of."Burns took the opposite route to 62 with a six-under 30 on the back nine to surge into contention.The world number 18 sank a 20-foot birdie at the 17th and then chipped in from the greenside at the last for his share of history."I caught myself by surprise," said Burns. "I think the finish there the last three holes was just a bonus."Both players equal the course record set by Branden Grace the last time the British Open was held at Birkdale in 2017, one of five previous rounds of 62 at majors.Those also included Xander Schauffele and Shane Lowry's rounds of nine under par at the 2024 PGA Championship at the 71-par Valhalla.SET TO MAKE CUTSuber shone on his first ever British Open round on Thursday and showed plenty of resilience to remain in contention during a rollercoaster second round.The American made three consecutive bogeys at the sixth, seventh and eighth to drop back to three under par at the turn.However, Suber picked up four birdies on the back nine to climb up to second place on six under heading into the weekend.Rory McIlroy recovered from a difficult opening round of 72, that included six bogeys, to at least put himself in position to mount a surge up the leaderboard over the weekendThe six-time major champion posted a 67 to move to one under for the tournament.McIlroy's playing partner Matt Fitzpatrick is one of the big names set to miss the cut.Fitzpatrick has been one of the form players on the PGA Tour this year to climb up to third in the world rankings.The Englishman has struggled to produce his best at the majors and slipped to four over par, four adrift of the projected cut mark.  

As part of its commitment to fostering media awareness and investing in young talent, the Qatar Media Corporation (QMC) launched the second edition of its annual summer training programme Sunday for the children of its employees. The initiative is designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of media production while equipping them with practical skills through direct engagement with leading national media platforms. The programme reflects QMC’s broader vision of encouraging creativity among young people and making productive use of the summer break by providing an immersive educational experience that blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice inside a professional media environment. Mariam Suwailem, head of Training at the Human Resources Department of QMC, said the initiative aims to enrich participants’ understanding of the media industry and help them develop essential communication and presentation skills. She noted that exposing young people to real newsrooms and broadcasting environments allows them to gain first-hand experience of the profession and inspires them to explore future careers in the media sector. Targeting boys and girls aged 13 to 16, the five-day programme offers practical training across several of QMC’s media outlets. Participants rotate through Qatar TV, QBC Economic Channel, Al Kass Sports Channels, and Sawt Al Khaleej Radio, where they are introduced to the different stages of media production, from content creation and news preparation to television and radio broadcasting techniques. Throughout the programme, trainees work alongside experienced media professionals who provide guidance on presentation skills, newsroom operations, television production, and radio programming. This interactive approach enables participants to experience the pace and demands of professional media work while developing confidence, teamwork, and creative thinking. By continuing this initiative for a second consecutive year, QMC reaffirms its dedication to investing in youth development and strengthening media literacy among the younger generation. The programme also reflects the Corporation’s commitment to cultivating future media professionals who can contribute to Qatar’s evolving media landscape through innovation, knowledge, and professional excellence. 

Qatar Chamber, in co-operation with the Young Entrepreneurs Club (YEC) and several supporting entities, organised a virtual workshop titled ‘Don’t Risk Your Future: Basics of Financial and Legal Awareness for Youth’, with the participation of entrepreneurs and interested participants.  Delivered by lawyer Aisha al-Madeed, the workshop focused on enhancing financial and legal awareness among youth, covering key topics such as financial planning, legal rights and obligations, risk management, and supporting entrepreneurs in addressing legal and financial challenges.  Fatima al-Kuwari, head of the Training and Development Department at Qatar Chamber, said the workshop reflects the chamber’s commitment to equipping youth with the tools needed to manage their financial and legal future and make informed decisions.  She added that the chamber continues to develop training programmes aligned with market needs and praised the cooperation with partner entities in supporting youth capabilities and professional and financial stability.

The Al Jazeera Media Institute (AJMI) organised a "Young Entrepreneurs" course to cultivate entrepreneurial thinking in children and introduce them to the fundamentals of project planning and transforming ideas into viable projects through a practical learning experience, AJMI announced on its website.Sixteen young people participated in the course, working as a team. They were divided into three groups that established three startup companies, simulating a real-world entrepreneurial environment.The participants demonstrated a high level of engagement and commitment throughout the programme, along with a remarkable ability to learn and apply their knowledge practically. This was evident in the final business presentation, where the children introduced their projects to visitors and a judging panel, showcasing real-world examples of ideas they had developed themselves.**media[396400]**Several participants expressed enthusiasm and pride in their experience. Saad al-Mahmoud said that the course taught him the basics of project planning and how to launch a real business idea. He noted that his participation in the business exhibition was a unique experience, during which he felt proud to present his project.Fatima Saud al-Dulaimi explained that the course helped her to present her idea confidently and plan her project step by step. She considered her participation in the business exhibition on the final day, and presenting her project to the public, a pivotal moment in her experience.The course instructor, Dr Rania al-Jamal, emphasised that teaching entrepreneurship to children goes beyond simply starting a business. It includes building confidence, developing creative thinking, and teaching them how to turn ideas into reality.She noted that what the participants demonstrated during the course reflects the importance of early investment in children's minds as an investment in the future. 

In recognition of Qatar’s long legacy of young footballers who have achieved numerous successes, FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 matches will be played on Aspire Zone pitches named in their honour. The players chosen to reflect the rich history of Qatari football and will inspire a new generation of young stars.The footballers chosen are:Pitch 1 - Mohammed GhanimMohammed Ghanim is recognised as one of the most talented footballers in Qatar’s history. He rose to prominence in the 1970s when he was chosen as the Most Valuable Player during the third edition of the Gulf Cup held in Kuwait in 1974.On the club level, he was part of the Al-Ahli team where he was the first captain to lift the coveted Amir Cup trophy in 1972, when he led his team to an emphatic 6-1 win over Al Rayyan at the historic Doha Stadium.Pitch 2 - Ibrahim KhalfanKnown as an artist on an off the pitch, Ibrahim Khalfan played for Qatar’s national team in different age groups. Most notably, Khalfan played a crucial role in leading the country to its historic second-place finish at the 1981 FIFA World Youth Championship. As a player for Qatari side Al-Arabi, Khalfanwas recognised as the midfield mastermind behind three consecutive Amir Cup titles between 1977 and 1979.Pitch 3 - Bader BilalThe former striker was also part of the famous Qatari side that claimed runners up at the 1981 FIFA World Youth Championship. Qatar University (QU)’s Young Scientists Centre (YSC) has concluded the seventh edition of its 2025 Summer Research Training Programme, which served as an exceptional platform for students to pursue academic and research excellence.The closing ceremony featured a research poster exhibition showcasing the innovative projects and creative achievements developed by participating students.This year’s programme provided the students opportunities to enhance research skills and engage in innovative projects across several vital fields, including energy and environment, health and biomedical sciences, information and communication technology, and social and human sciences.“Over the years, the programme has proven its effectiveness in empowering students to develop their research capabilities and progress from inquiry to scientific discovery,” said associate vice-president (Research and Graduate Studies) Dr Mohamed Alsafran.He noted that this year saw outstanding participation, with 245 students taking part in 34 research projects across various disciplines.Dr Alsafran emphasised that the programme’s success reflects the productive collaboration among the university’s research centres and colleges, which have actively contributed to strengthening the QU’s multidisciplinary research platform, supporting excellence and innovation, and reinforcing the university’s commitment to building national capacity and achieving sustainable development.Dr Zubair Ahmad, the head of Module Development and Publication at the YSC, highlighted that the Summer Research Training Programme serves as a cornerstone in fostering research capabilities among youth.He described it as a strategic platform that transforms students into researchers and innovators capable of addressing contemporary challenges.Dr Ahmad added that the programme provides students with a unique opportunity to engage in real scientific research designed to enhance their technical and research skills through collaborative work with experts and mentors.He further said that the programme focuses on capacity building, enabling students to acquire the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to contribute effectively to the knowledge-based economy envisioned in Qatar National Vision 2030.Among the winning projects were:* “The Effect of Catalyst Support Acidity and Basicity on CO₂ Conversion in the RWGS Reaction” in the Energy and Environment category, supervised by Dr Anand Kumar and Dr Parisa Ebrahimi from the College of Engineering.* “Years of Change: How University Life Shapes Students’ Dietary Habits and Physical Activity” in the Health and Biomedical Sciences category, led by Dr Rima Tayyem from the College of Health Sciences.* “A Smart Warning System for Distracted Motorcycle Riders Using Machine Learning Techniques” in the Information Technology category, supervised by Dr Qainat Hussain from the College of Engineering.* “Digital Transformation and AI Integration: Exploring Perceived Educational Benefits in Non-STEM Education” in the Social and Human Sciences category, supervised by Dr Julie Bhadra and Somaya Muneer from the YSC.These achievements reflected not only the quality of academic supervision but also the students’ ability to translate knowledge into pioneering research outcomes with tangible societal impact.The Summer Research Training Programme is one of the QU’s strategic initiatives, reflecting its commitment to developing students’ scientific capabilities and empowering them to become future research leaders capable of innovation and contributing to societal advancement.

The workshop, which saw the participation of 75 attendees, focused on international partnership management skills, the challenges facing entrepreneurs, and strategies for ensuring partnership sustainability.It provided participants with the knowledge and skills to build and manage international partnerships, covering all stages from identifying suitable partners to negotiation, contract drafting, and long-term evaluation to ensure sustainability and shared success.Abdulaziz al-Qahtani, an expert in entrepreneurship and international project management and general manager of the S CITY Platform for new ventures, highlighted the most pressing challenges entrepreneurs and startups face in forming global partnerships.Drawing on his experience with international startups through the S CITY Platform, he shared practical solutions and strategies. He noted that international partnerships are key to business growth in today’s fast-changing economy and stressed the importance for entrepreneurs to sharpen negotiation skills and manage shared resources effectively to stay competitive and enter new markets.Fatima Issa al-Kuwari, Head of Training and Development at Qatar Chamber, underlined the chamber’s commitment to developing the capabilities of young people and entrepreneurs by organising high-quality programs that strengthen their competitiveness.She noted that managing international partnerships is a key pillar of business expansion and access to new markets.
