 The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), Qatar Charity (QC), and Sidra Medicine have concluded a specialised medical convoy for paediatric cardiac surgery and catheterisation in Yemen.Over one week, the volunteer team of medical professionals has been performing medical examinations, interventions, and life-saving surgeries for many children with congenital heart defects. The mission was more than successful, with a total of 107 free medical interventions for children (86 cardiac catheterisations and 21 open-heart surgeries) performed by the visiting consultant and specialist cardiologists, who were assisted by the medical staff at the Cardiovascular and Kidney Transplant Centre in Taiz. In terms of capacity-building, the programme involved a specialised training workshop for the medical staff at the host centre on ultrasound-guided arterial catheterisation techniques, to increase their skills and enhance the quality of medical services provided for critical cases, particularly in paediatrics. During the closing ceremony, the medical team was recognised for their dedicated efforts to serve and take care of the Yemeni children with heart conditions. The ceremony also honoured the representatives of the three partners – the QRCS, QC, and Sidra Medicine – whose contributions helped make this medical project a significant success.The organisers praised the level of co-ordination with local authorities and medical facilities in Yemen. They emphasised that such effective humanitarian partnerships help overcome the challenges facing the Yemeni health sector and give patients, especially children, a fresh hope for having a normal and stable life. Eng. Ahmed al-Sharaji, the head of the QRCS representation office in Yemen, said: “This medical convoy represents the QRCS’s commitment to providing continued and diverse humanitarian assistance for the people of Yemen, especially in healthcare.” “Together with our partners, we work to support Yemeni health facilities, bridge the gap in financial and human resources, and make them able to keep serving the population,” he said. “Also, transfer of expertise and capacity-building ensure sustainable and better healthcare for patients in the long term.” Dr Abdullah al-Nuaim, the director of the QC’s office in Yemen, commended that achievement. “We are proud of what we have accomplished, alongside our partners at the QRCS,” he said. “This joint humanitarian intervention was not just a one-time response, but rather a practical manifestation of our 2026-30 strategy, which deals with empowerment, sustainability, and maximised impact at top priorities.” “Today, we are working to deliver health projects that not only meet immediate needs but also leave a lasting developmental impact that makes a real difference in the lives of the most vulnerable people in Yemen,” Dr al-Nuaim added. “This convoy sought to alleviate the suffering of children with weak hearts, allowing them to live normally like other children.” “This medical project was an essential humanitarian opportunity to perform over 100 major medical interventions for sick children within a short timeframe, with a view to improving their lives and reshaping their future,” said project manager Dr Monira al-Aini. “We focused on the highest quality and safety standards, while engaging local medical professionals throughout, helping to develop their expertise and upgrade paediatric cardiac surgery and catheterisation services in the country.” The success of the medical convoy was the outcome of cumulative efforts and fruitful partnership.Earlier, the QRCS and QC had supported the Cardiovascular and Kidney Transplant Centre in Taiz with state-of-the-art cardiac catheterisation equipment. As a result, the centre increased its capacity and performed more diagnostic and interventional catheterisation procedures free of charge for children and older people.This, by extension, helped ease the financial and health burden on poor patients.

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and Qatar Charity (QC) launched a specialised medical convoy for paediatric cardiac surgery and catheterisation in Taiz, Yemen. Implemented in cooperation with Sidra Medicine and Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health and Population, the project aims to support the health sector and ensure free medical care for poor children. The launching ceremony was attended by Abdul-Qawi al-Makhlafi, First Deputy Governor of Taiz; Dr Abu Dhar al-Gendi, director of the Cardiovascular and Kidney Transplant Centre in Taiz; and representatives of QRCS and QC. **media[447008]** Until May 22, six consultants in cardiac catheterisation/surgery, intensive care, and anaesthesia will be working hand in hand with the local medical staff at the Cardiovascular and Kidney Transplant Centre in Taiz.The Qatari medical delegation comprises a select group of paediatric cardiology consultants and specialists, including Dr Younes Boudjemline, senior consultant cardiologist at Sidra Medicine (head of delegation); Dr Mustafa al-Muhaya, consultant cardiologist; Dr Mohamed al-Ashwal, consultant intensivist; Dr Mohamed al-Humairi, consultant anaesthetist; Dr Nabil al-Bahlouli, consultant cardiac surgeon, and Dr Sami al-Ahdal, consultant cardiac surgeon. As per the plan, 85 cardiac catheterisation procedures and 10 open-heart surgeries will be performed, as part of a medical and humanitarian programme to save lives and ease the financial burden on poor families in the governorate. **media[447007]** QRCS and QC supported the host centre with a specialised cardiac catheterisation machine, pegged at $1mn, which helped enhance the centre’s medical services. Thanks to that support, more than 500 diagnostic and 100 therapeutic catheterisations were performed free of charge, with all costs of medical care and supplies covered. Qatar would continue to work hard to bolster the country’s health system and alleviate the suffering of patients in need. 

The Sultanate of Oman welcomed Sunday the call for dialogue between all southern factions in Yemen, which will be held in Saudi Arabia. The Oman News Agency (ONA) said that the Omani Foreign Ministry expressed in a statement the Sultanate's welcome of the call for dialogue between all southern components in the Republic of Yemen, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in a way that contributes to achieving the desired consensus in the context of a comprehensive political solution in line with the legitimate aspirations of the Yemeni people.

The State of Qatar has welcomed the efforts of the legitimate Yemeni government to support the Yemeni dialogue process and address the Southern issue. In this regard, Qatar commended the request of the President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council to convene a conference in Riyadh to discuss just and sustainable solutions to the issue, reflecting his commitment to dialogue as the optimal approach to addressing national challenges.In a statement issued Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Qatar's appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting this conference, as part of its continued efforts to support initiatives aimed at achieving security and stability in the Republic of Yemen.The Ministry stressed the importance of the constructive and responsible participation of all Southern components in the upcoming Riyadh conference, in a manner that prioritizes the supreme interests of the Yemeni people. It also underscored the necessity of adhering to the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, which represent the consensual framework and comprehensive reference for reaching an inclusive political solution that fulfills the aspirations of all segments of the Yemeni people, while safeguarding Yemen's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs cautioned that unilateral declarations or actions taken outside the framework of consultation, consensus, and serious dialogue among Yemeni parties would risk exacerbating instability and chaos, thereby harming the interests of the brotherly Yemeni people and undermining prospects for a sustainable political settlement.The Ministry reaffirmed the State of Qatar's full support for all regional and international efforts aimed at advancing the political process, ending the Yemeni crisis through dialogue and peaceful means, and contributing to the security and stability of Yemen and the region.

The United Arab Emirates said Tuesday it was pulling its remaining forces out ‌of Yemen after Saudi Arabia backed a call for UAE forces to leave within 24 hours, in a major crisis ‌between the two Gulf powers and oil producers.Hours ‍earlier, Saudi-led coalition forces had attacked the southern Yemeni port of Mukalla. The airstrike on what Riyadh said was a UAE-linked weapons shipment was the most significant escalation to date in ⁠a widening rift.The UAE defence ministry ‍said it had voluntarily ended the mission of its counterterrorism units in Yemen, its only forces still there after it "concluded" its military presence in 2019.The ministry said its remaining mission was limited to "specialised personnel as part of counterterrorism efforts, in coordination with relevant international partners".In a statement, it said recent developments had prompted a comprehensive assessment, the state news agency WAM reported.Saudi Arabia had accused the UAE of pressuring Yemen's separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC) to push towards the kingdom's borders, and declaring its national security a "red line".It was Riyadh's strongest reaction yet in the falling-out between the neighbours, who once cooperated in ‌a coalition against Yemen’s Houthis but have seen their interests there steadily diverge.The UAE withdrawal of the few forces it had kept in Yemen may ease tensions for now. But the real issue is whether it will keep supporting the STC.Riyadh for its part has continued, through the coalition it heads, to ‍back Yemen's internationally recognised government and the cabinet said ⁠it hoped the UAE would ‌end all military or financial assistance to the STC.The coalition bombed what it said was a dock used to provide foreign military support to the separatists. Rashad al-Alimi, head of Yemen's presidential council, gave Emirati forces 24 hours to leave.The UAE said it had been surprised by the airstrike, and that the shipments in question did not contain weapons and were destined for the Emirati forces. But it said it sought a solution "that prevents escalation, based on reliable facts and existing coordination".In a televised speech, Alimi said it had been "definitively confirmed that the United Arab Emirates pressured and directed the STC to undermine and rebel against the authority of the state through military escalation", according to the Yemeni state news agency.US Secretary of ‌State Marco Rubio ‌spoke ‍with his ⁠Saudi counterpart, ⁠Foreign Minister Prince Faisal ‍bin Farhan al-Saud, about ongoing tensions in Yemen and ‌regional security, the State Department ‍said Tuesday.Saudi Arabia and the UAE are both major players in the OPEC oil exporters' group, and any disagreements could hamper consensus on oil output.They and six other OPEC+ members meet online next Sunday, and OPEC+ delegates say they will extend a policy of maintaining first-quarter production unchanged.Major stock indexes in the ​Gulf fell.Tuesday's airstrike followed the weekend arrival of two ships from the UAE port of Fujairah on Saturday and Sunday without coalition authorisation, the coalition said.The Saudi state news agency published a video showing a ship it identified as "Greenland", from which it said arms and combat vehicles were unloaded. The registered owner and operator of the Greenland, a roll-on/roll-off cargo vessel, is Salem Al Makrani Cargo Company, headquartered in Dubai, with ​a branch in Fujairah, the company website indicates.The coalition said the strike caused no casualties or collateral damage, according to Saudi state media. Two sources told Reuters that it targeted the dock where the cargoes were unloaded.Reuters could not immediately verify what had been hit or the nature or origin of any cargoes that may have been attacked.Yemeni state TV showed what it said was black smoke rising from the port in the early morning, with burned vehicles. Alimi declared a no-fly zone, and a sea and ground blockade on all ports and crossings for 72 hours.Aidarous al-Zubaidi, head of the STC and deputy head of the presidential council, said in a joint statement with three other members of the council that the UAE remained a main partner in the fight against the Houthis. ⁠It rejected Alimi's orders and said they lacked consensus. 

Qatar secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Oman at the Under-17 Gulf Cup Wednesday to seal their place in the semi-finals. In a tense encounter at the Grand Hamad Stadium, Faisal Saeed struck the decisive goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time, sparking jubilant celebrations among the home crowd. The result lifted Al Annabi to six points from two matches, ensuring qualification, while Oman remain without a point. In the group’s other fixture, the UAE came from behind to defeat Yemen 2-1 in a thrilling contest at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium. Yemen took the lead in the 30th minute through an own goal by Emirati defender Butti al-Junaibi. Qatar beat Yemen 1-0 in the AGCFF U-17 Gulf Cup match played at the Grand Hamad Stadium on Sunday.Faisal Saeed scored the winner for the hosts. Qatar will next play Oman on Wednesday before meeting the UAE on September 27th.

Aya Mohamed etched her name in history by becoming the first Qatari woman to win the women’s singles title at the Arab Teams Table Tennis Championship in Casablanca, Morocco, Sunday. The 31-year-old defeated Jordan’s Tima Abu Yemen 3-2 in a thrilling final at the Mohammed V Indoor Complex, clinching Qatar’s 20th medal and fourth gold of the tournament.Mohamed also secured silver in doubles with Maryam Ali and another silver in the team event alongside Ali and Serena Sheikh.A pioneer for Qatari table tennis, Mohamed competed at the London 2012 Olympics and earlier this year, alongside Mohamed Abdulwahab, broke into the ITTF world’s top 100 in mixed doubles for the first time in Qatar’s history.Following her victory, Mohamed expressed pride in her achievement: “I am honored to be the first Qatari to win this title.
