The Malaysia embassy in Doha recently organised the “Malaysian Community’s Blood Donation Drive” at the Qatar National Blood Donation Centre. Held under the theme Your Blood, Their Hope, the initiative was organised in collaboration with the Malaysian Association of Qatar (MAQ), Qatar Blood Donation Services, and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). The programme received an encouraging response from the Malaysian community, with approximately 100 Malaysians residing in Qatar signing up to participate in the humanitarian initiative. The event was attended by Malaysian ambassador Faizal Razali, who was welcomed by Blood Donation Centre director Salwa Mohammed al-Khamisi.Also present was MAQ president Dr Mohd Faris Khamidi, embassy officials and members of the Malaysian community in Qatar. Razali expressed appreciation to all Malaysians who participated in the initiative and highlighted the importance of community support and compassion in helping save lives. He also extended his appreciation to the HMC, Qatar Blood Donation Services, MAQ, volunteers, and all parties involved for their support and co-operation in ensuring the success of the programme. 

Indian Cultural Centre, under the aegis of the Embassy of India, organised a felicitation ceremony on May 18 at ICC Ashoka Hall to honour the Grade 10 and 12 CBSE toppers from various CBSE schools in Qatar. Indian ambassador Vipul attended the event as the chief guest.**media[448563]**ICC general-secretary Abraham K Joseph welcomed the guests and dignitaries followed by opening remarks by ICC head of HR, Admin and Consular, Rakesh Wagh. Addressing the students, Vipul congratulated them on their outstanding achievement and extended his best wishes for their future pursuits. ICC president A P Manikantan congratulated the students and acknowledged the dedication and support of teachers and parents in shaping their success. ICC Advisory Council chairman P N Babu Rajan was also present on the occasion. The evening concluded with a vote of thanks by ICC vice president Shantanu Deshpande. The event was seamlessly hosted by Drishti. 

 The Embassy of Moldova in Doha recently hosted an ‘Art, Fashion and Cultural Diplomacy (AFCD)’ exhibition, featuring around 100 artworks to mark Europe Day and World Hat Walk 2026.The exhibition was attended by Moldovan ambassador Iulian Grigorita, ambassadors of Romania, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Ukraine, and Central Africa, AFCD founder and patron Farhan al-Sheikh al-Sayed, and its secretary-general, Rodica Grigorita. Heads of Mission of Albania and Honduras also attended the opening.A fashion show was held, with models and guests wearing handmade hats by AFCD members, commemorating the World Hat Walk 2026.Live music concert was performed by renowned celebrities Georgio Martin and Anca Martin.The AFCD group has around 50 members, comprising ambassadors, spouses of ambassadors, diplomats and their children. 

A man who last year tried to enter Israel's London embassy armed with two knives and carrying a "martyrdom note" was yesterday convicted in ‌a London court of preparing an act of ​terrorism.Abdullah Albadri, 34, a ‌failed asylum seeker from Kuwait, attempted to breach ‌the embassy's ⁠perimeter in ‌April 2025 because he wanted to ‌send a message about "the killing of children", prosecutors said at ⁠his trial this month.Albadri denied charges of preparing an act of terrorism and possession of two bladed articles, telling police he had the knives because he was homeless, but a jury found him guilty yesterday.The verdicts came two days after two Jewish men were stabbed in ​north London in what police described as a suspected terrorist incident, adding to heightened fears within Britain's Jewish community.Last month, a pro-Iranian group ‌claimed online that it targeted ⁠the embassy ​with drones carrying "dangerous substances". Police later said they found ​no hazardous substances.Albadri was arrested by two armed officers as he tried to scale the fence outside the embassy in west London last April. Prosecutors said he later told police he wanted to send a message about stopping the war, a reference to the Israeli-Hamas conflict in Gaza."The prosecution say that Mr Albadri's intention was to use or threaten serious violence against the Israeli government, ‌to exact revenge for its ‌alleged murder of children," ⁠Catherine Pattison told jurors at the Old Bailey.Pattison said Albadri ⁠had arrived in ⁠Britain via a small boat on two occasions and most recently entered the country in April last year, when he applied for asylum, claiming he faced risks in Kuwait as a human rights activist.However, exchanges on his phone showed his asylum ​claim was rejected later that month, after which his intention began to shift to "far more sinister matters" and he started searching for the location of the Israeli embassy, Pattison said.Commander Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, said the Israeli embassy has faced a number of security alerts but police "continuously review and strengthen protective security plans to ensure the site ‌and the ​wider community is kept as safe as possible". 

His Excellency the Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah al-Attiyah met Monday with charge d’affaires at the United States Embassy in Qatar Mo Barghouty. Discussions during the meeting dealt with co-operation relations between the two countries in areas of common interest.

The US embassy in Baghdad has warned that pro-Iran armed groups in Iraq may attack the city in the coming one or two days.Iraq has been dragged into the war between the United States, Israel and Iran, with strikes targeting both US interests and pro-Iran groups in the country.The US embassy in Baghdad, located in the centre of the city, has been repeatedly targeted, and Thursday it warned of more attacks in central parts of the capital."Iraqi terrorist militia groups aligned with Iran may intend to conduct attacks in central Baghdad in the next 24-48 hours," the embassy said in a statement on X.It repeated earlier advice for Americans in Iraq to leave.The frequency of attacks in Iraq has decreased in recent days after the influential pro-Iran group Kataeb Hezbollah declared a pause on March 19, which was twice extended.However, the group did not announce a further extension on Wednesday night after its latest pause expired.Last month Washington and Baghdad said they would "intensify co-operation" to prevent attacks and ensure Iraqi territory is not used to launch assaults against US facilities.However, the US embassy statement Thursday said that "the Iraqi government has not prevented terrorist attacks in or from Iraqi territory"."Iran-aligned terrorist militia groups may claim to be associated with the Iraqi government," it added.Former Iraqi paramilitary alliance Hashed al-Shaabi – also known as the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) – is a sprawling coalition of armed groups that are now part of Iraq's regular army, but they contain pro-Iran factions who have a reputation for acting independently.These factions and the PMF have been targeted by strikes since the outbreak of war and have blamed the US and Israel.The Pentagon has said helicopters have carried out strikes against pro-Iran armed groups in Iraq during the war.Washington has strongly denied claims that it has targeted Iraqi security forces.A strike on Wednesday against a PMF position in northwestern Iraq – which the PMF blamed on the US and Israel – killed three fighters.The US embassy in its statement urged US citizens in Iraq to leave immediately, warning that "terrorist militias have targeted Americans for kidnapping".On Tuesday evening an American journalist, named by her employer and media advocacy groups as Shelly Kittleson, was abducted in Baghdad.A suspect has been detained in connection with the kidnapping, and an Iraqi security official told AFP the man had links to Kataeb Hezbollah.The US embassy later reposted the State Department's "Rewards for Justice" account, which had posted offering $3mn for information on pro-Iran attacks, appealing in Arabic for help to "stop the terrorist attacks".Autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan has also not been spared the violence.Erbil governor Omed Khoshnaw said Thursday that since the start of the war, more than 500 attacks had targeted the region.Security sources told AFP that at least 30 drones targeted the Erbil and Duhok governorates overnight, but there were no casualties reported.

The Philippine embassy in Doha marked National Women’s Month by joining the Purple Wednesdays campaign Wednesday (March 25), highlighting its commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment, while also observing Girl Child Week to promote the rights and welfare of young Filipino girls.In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the embassy said the celebration forms part of its efforts this March to recognise women and their contributions to society. Embassy officials and staff wore purple, symbolising women, justice, and dignity, in support of the #PurpleWednesdays campaign, a key feature of the Philippine National Women’s Month observance.**media[429282]**By participating in the initiative every Wednesday of March, the embassy underlined its commitment to building an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to “rise and thrive.” The chancery was also illuminated in purple to further raise awareness and demonstrate solidarity with the global push for gender equality.Alongside the month-long celebration, the embassy joined the Philippines in observing the Protection and Gender-Fair Treatment of the Girl Child Week, or “Girl Child Week,” from March 22 to 28. The annual observance, held every fourth week of March under Proclamation No. 759, s. 1996, complements National Women’s Month by highlighting the importance of safeguarding the rights and welfare of girls.**media[429281]**This year’s theme, “Katawan Ko, Karapatan Ko: Edukasyon Tungo sa Malaya at Ligtas na Pagpapasya” (My Body, My Rights: Education Towards Safe and Informed Choices), emphasises the role of education and access to information in empowering young girls to make informed decisions about their health and future.The embassy reiterated its commitment to raising awareness and ensuring that Filipino girls are equipped with the knowledge and support needed to make safe, empowered choices. It also called on the Filipino community in Qatar to take part in the observance by fostering open dialogue, advocating gender equality, and helping create a safe and nurturing environment for every girl child. 

China expressed deep shock and said it had lodged a protest Tuesday after a man described as a member of Japan's Self-Defense Forces broke into its Tokyo embassy and threatened to kill diplomats.The incident further soured relations between Beijing and Tokyo that have suffered since comments by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi about the self-ruled island of Taiwan.Japan's national broadcaster NHK said the man had entered the heavily guarded embassy grounds on Tuesday morning and that a knife was later found at the scene.NHK, citing unidentified investigation sources, said no one was hurt but added that the man was "believed to be a member of the Ground Self-Defense Force".However, China's foreign ministry said the unidentified man had threatened to kill Chinese diplomats.A ministry spokesman told a scheduled news conference in Beijing that the intruder had scaled the embassy walls before he was apprehended."The individual admitted that his actions were unlawful and threatened to kill Chinese diplomatic personnel 'in the name of God'," spokesman Lin Jian said."The Chinese side is deeply shocked by this incident and has lodged solemn representations and a strong protest with the Japanese side," he said.Police in Tokyo could not be reached immediately for comment.Japan's Defense Ministry said it was aware of the incident but declined to comment further, citing an ongoing investigation.Lin demanded that Tokyo investigate the incident thoroughly.Ties between Japan and China have deteriorated since Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi suggested in November that Japan might intervene militarily in any Chinese attempt to take Taiwan.China, which regards the democratic island as part of its territory and has not ruled out force to annex it, was furious over the comments.It summoned Tokyo's ambassador and warned Chinese citizens against visiting Japan, with tourism numbers plummeting since then. 

Saudi Arabia informed Iran’s military attache, his assistant and three members of the embassy staff that they must leave the kingdom within 24 hours after being declared persona non grata, the Saudi foreign ministry said yesterday, citing what it described as continued Iranian attacks on Saudi territory. Saudi Arabia has come under attack by hundreds of Iranian missiles and drones since the start of US-Israeli war on Iran, the vast majority of which have been intercepted, authorities said. The ministry said in a statement that continued Iranian attacks would lead to further escalation and have “significant consequences” for current and future relations. On Wednesday, the Saudi foreign minister said the kingdom reserved the right to act militarily against Iran and any trust with Tehran had been shattered following recent attacks. Saudi Arabia and Iran re-established diplomatic ties in 2023 as part of an eff ort to calm tensions after years of enmity that saw them back opposing political and military factions in the region. The US-Israeli war on Iran and Tehran’s subsequent attacks on Gulf neighbours have disrupted oil and natural gas exports from the Middle East and forced production stoppages. The United Arab Emirates said yesterday it faced aerial attacks from Iran after the country warned its neighbour against allowing attacks from its territory on disputed islands near the strategic Strait of Hormuz. “UAE air defences are currently responding to incoming missile and drone threats from Iran,” the defence ministry said in a statement explaining “the sounds heard are the result of the Air Defence Systems intercepting missiles and drones”. The Tasnim news agency reported the Iranian military’s operational command had warned the UAE “if any further aggression originates from its territory against the Iranian islands of Abu Musa and Greater Tunb in the Persian Gulf, Iran... will subject Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE to heavy strikes”. Authorities in the northern emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, which shares its name with the UAE’s sixth-largest city, said later yesterday the “sounds heard across parts of the city were the result of successful air defence interception operations”.
