University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), in collaboration with the Qatar Cancer Society, successfully hosted the Technological Innovations for Cancer Risk Reduction and Detection conference, bringing together leading national and international experts to explore the integration of cutting-edge technologies aimed at enhancing cancer prevention, early detection, and community well-being.With keynote presentations from experts at the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (WHO-IARC) and the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (WHO-EMRO), the conference served as a platform to advance applied research, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and support national and global health priorities.The conference highlighted innovations in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies for cancer risk reduction and detection, while strengthening collaboration among key institutions, including WHO-IARC, WHO-EMRO, the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), and leading healthcare and academic entities. UDST symposium on diabetes care explores latest advances

University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) hosted the 4th symposium on Diabetes Care under the theme “Transforming Diabetes Care for Well-Being: Innovations in Education, Research, and Person-Centred Practice.”Held in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), and with the support of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Primary Health Care Corporation, Sidra Medicine, and The View Hospital in affiliation with Cedars-Sinai, the symposium brought together national and international healthcare experts to discuss the latest advances, challenges and opportunities in diabetes care and prevention as well as the broader metabolic health agenda.The symposium was attended by Sheikh Dr Mohammed al-Thani, director of Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention Programmes at the MoPH; Dr. Rachid Benlamri, vice president, academics UDST; Dr Rayana Ahmed Bou Haka, director of the World Health Organisation Office, Qatar; Dr Dabia al-Mohanadi, director of the Qatar Metabolic Institute and division chief of Endocrinology at HMC; Dr Abdulla al-Hamaq, executive director of Qatar Diabetes Association; Prof Amanda Adler, professor of Diabetic Medicine and Health Policy at the University of Oxford, UK; and Dr Tassos Kotzias, president of the Doha Chapter of the International Coaching Federation, and several researchers, faculty, students and guests.The event featured an extensive scientific programme including keynote lectures, expert talks, and interactive panel discussions covering topics such as diabetes remission, innovations in cardiovascular and Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease risk management, holistic and person-centred care, and the integration of mental health and behaviour change in diabetes management.Dr Salem al-Naemi, president of UDST, stated: “At UDST, we take pride in fostering platforms that connect education, research, and healthcare practice to address some of Qatar’s most pressing health priorities. UDST hosts Career Fair 2025

University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) has inaugurated the Career Fair 2025, welcoming participation from over 95 local and international companies representing key industries across Qatar and beyond. The two-day event, organised by the Student Central Services Department, provided over 2,450 opportunities for full-time and part-time employment, sponsorships, internships, and co-operative training. The event has been inaugurated by President of UDST, Dr Salem Al-Naemi, in the presence of HE Chairman of UDST’s Board of Trustees, Dr Mohammed Saleh al-Sada; and Vice-Chair of UDST’s Board of Trustees and Managing Director and CEO of Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco), Dr Mohammed Yousef al-Mulla; and attended by UDST students, alumni, and high school students exploring their future career paths. The fair serves as one of UDST’s flagship annual events, offering students and graduates a direct gateway to industry leaders, while helping employers connect with highly skilled and job-ready talent. Throughout the event, attendees engaged in live interviews, networking sessions, and career development activities, reflecting UDST’s applied learning approach that bridges education with real-world experience. In line with its commitment to sustainability, UDST ensured the event remained entirely paperless, with students submitting their CVs and applications through the university’s digital application system. This initiative highlights UDST’s ongoing dedication to adopting eco-friendly and innovative event practices that align with Qatar National Vision 2030’s sustainability goals. UDST president awarded honorary title

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) announced that its president, Dr Salem Al-Naemi, has been awarded the honorary title of ‘International Ambassador for Social Responsibility’ by the Regional Network for Social Responsibility.The recognition celebrates Dr Al-Naemi’s exceptional and longstanding contributions to social responsibility and sustainable development, both nationally and across the Arab region, a statement said. The Regional Network for Social Responsibility is a professional non-profit organisation with global memberships in leading international institutions such as the UN Global Compact, the International Rehabilitation Organisation, and the International Union for Social Responsibility.Dr Al-Naemi was selected for the honour in recognition of his impactful leadership in embedding social responsibility principles within every institution he has served, it was explained.“This recognition is a reflection of the collective effort at UDST to champion social responsibility and sustainability,” Dr Al-Naemi said. “As educators and leaders, it is our duty to integrate these values into our academic and community initiatives, inspiring others to contribute to the well-being and development of society,” he added.During the ceremony in Doha, Prof Dr Ali al-Ibrahim, vice-president of the Regional Network for Social Responsibility stated that Dr Al-Naemi embodies the model of an academic leader who believes that education is not merely the transfer of knowledge, but a mission to build individuals, advance communities, and strengthen values.“Under his leadership, the University of Doha for Science and Technology has become a beacon of innovation, integrating education, social responsibility, and sustainability. UDST observes World Mental Health Day

University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) marked World Mental Health Day with a campus-wide event emphasizing the theme "Community Care: Supporting Mental Health in Challenging Times." The event highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in supporting mental wellbeing. This year's program featured a variety of interactive booths, wellness activities, and educational sessions aimed at strengthening resilience and fostering inclusivity. In his remarks, President of UDST Dr. Salem bin Nasser Al Naemi emphasized the university's commitment to wellbeing: "At UDST, we believe that mental health is a shared responsibility and a cornerstone of a healthy society." "By preserving a culture of care and compassion, we empower our community to face challenges with resilience, while reinforcing our mission as a Healthy Campus recognized by the International University Sports Federation," he said. The event also featured student-led initiatives, including workshops and peer engagement activities, encouraging participants to reflect on how mental health can be supported through everyday interactions and proactive care. World Mental Health Day is observed every year on Oct. 10. It aims to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and promote global, encourage more open discussions about mental illness, and promote investment in both mental health services and prevention measures.

UDST dominate University Rapid Chess Championship

The University Rapid Chess Championship, organised by the Qatar University Sports Federation in collaboration with the Qatar Chess Association (QCA), concluded at the Community College gymnasium.Mahjoub Mohammed of Doha University of Science and Technology claimed first place in the men’s individual competition with nine points, ahead of teammate Muhannad Hussein Mohammed in second, while Qatar University’s Yousef al-Janahi finished third.In the women’s individual category, Qatar University’s Sana Nour Kartel emerged champion. Victoria Honordez of Doha University of Science and Technology secured second place, with her colleague Ghalia al-Naimi completing the podium.Doha University of Science and Technology also dominated the team events, taking first place in both the men’s and women’s team championships. Qatar University placed second in both categories, while Community College finished third in the men’s event and Hamad Bin Khalifa University claimed third in the women’s.Mohammed al-Mudhahka, President of the QCA, praised the high level of participation, noting that the rapid chess format showcased students’ mental and cognitive abilities. He stressed the Federation’s commitment to promoting chess culture in universities and strengthening cooperation with sports federations across the country.

UDST signs academic collaboration contract with leading UK immersive technology companies

University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) has signed an Academic Collaboration Contract with three globally recognized UK-based companies: Metaverse Learning Limited, MX Reality Limited, and vGather Limited (Metaverse Hub). The contract marks a milestone in advancing innovation, immersive education, and applied research in Qatar. Through this collaboration, the parties will engage in several key initiatives, including joint applied research projects, and integration of cutting-edge Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) technologies into education. The companies will also provide training for UDST faculty, internships for students, and contribute to UDST's research proposals and industry-driven initiatives. UDST welcomes more than 8,000 students

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) officially launched the 2025-26 academic year with more than 8,000 students enrolled for the Fall semester, including more than 1,600 new joiners, a statement said Sunday. The UDST has also witnessed significant growth in its international student community, welcoming more than 150 learners from across the GCC and beyond, supported by the dedicated International Education and Admissions Office which provides pre-arrival onboarding and ongoing assistance. The UDST features five colleges that provide 76 academic programmes in the areas of Business, Computing and Information Technology, Engineering and Technology, Health Sciences, and General Education. To mark the beginning of the academic journey, the UDST hosted “Ahlan” week, a campus-wide orientation welcoming its newest cohort. The event introduced students to campus life, services, and facilities through interactive sessions and engagements with faculty members, college deans, and student support divisions such as Admissions and Registration, Student Central Services, Sport and Wellness, and Counselling and Accessibility Services. This year, the UDST has introduced a range of value-added services to further enhance the student experience and support student success from the very start of their academic journey. The recently implemented Student Success Management System aims to help students navigate university life and streamline their overall experience, while the Pre-University Skills Summer Programme offers a head start and smooth transition into campus life. The First Year Student Experience initiative features a proactive pre-orientation phone campaign, ensuring students’ questions are answered early and connecting them to valuable resources. During orientation, students benefit from Academic Success Planning Programming to set and achieve academic, personal, and professional goals, as well as information on scholarship opportunities and guidance tools to inform their academic decisions. "Our students are not only beginning their university journey; they are joining an academic institution that upholds a national mission and a future-focused vision,” said UDST president Dr Salem al-Naemi. “We are committed to providing them with more than just academic knowledge; we aim to instill in them the practical skills and mindset needed to lead, innovate, and create meaningful impact.” “I urge each of our students to embrace this journey with ambition and purpose,” he stated. The UDST has also announced the launch of a new set of specialised programmes for this academic year. These include: a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering, the first of its kind in Qatar, designed to prepare highly qualified engineers for the aviation sector; a Master of Science in Telecommunications and Network Engineering; and a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management, aimed at developing administrative and technical competencies in the air transport industry. The UDST has also introduced a Master of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, in response to the growing demand for professionals in advanced digital technologies. In the field of education, the university has launched three specialised programmes under the “Tomouh” initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. These include a Bachelor of Science in Teaching STEM, a Master of Science in Teaching STEM, and a Master of Science in STEM and TVET Education, with the goal of preparing qualified Qatari educators in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
