Australia captain Pat Cummins indicated he might skip the Indian Premier League (IPL) next year to prioritise a heavy Test schedule and the one-day international World ‌Cup.The 33-year-old fast bowler first played in the ​IPL in 2014 and ‌has earned $1.9 million a year as captain of ‌Sunrisers Hyderabad ⁠in the ‌last three editions of the ‌blockbuster Twenty20 tournament. Next year, though, Australia play four Tests ⁠in India in January and February, have a 150th anniversary test against England in Melbourne in March, and go on a full Ashes tour before the ODI World Cup in southern Africa in October and November."Something has got to give at some stage next year and it's not ​going to be test matches or an ODI World Cup," Cummins told the Sydney Morning Herald on Wednesday."I will make a call a ‌lot closer and work ⁠with the franchise ​to see what makes sense. Things can change. ​I've had a couple of injuries pop up, so I don't really want to lock in anything."The priorities for me are always the Test matches and that ODI World Cup. I dare say if I play all of India, I need some sort of break before a pretty gruelling Ashes series."Cummins played only the Adelaide Ashes Test in the last home summer and skipped the T20 ‌World Cup as he ‌dealt with a nagging ⁠back injury.With his fellow fast-bowling stalwarts Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell ⁠Starc also deep into ⁠their 30s, Cummins said consideration would be given to resting them for part of the home series against New Zealand around the New Year."It's possible. I think we're fairly open-minded to anything, as we’ve seen over the last couple of years," Cummins ​added."I see a world where we're potentially winding some bowlers down, even say at the back end of an Indian series if they don't look like they're going to play, to give them an extra rest ahead of the Ashes."It's going to be a big push the next 18 months or so, but I think we'll look back on it hopefully ‌and see it ​as one of the more rewarding periods of our career." 

 Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi lashed a staggering 12 sixes to lead Rajasthan Royals (RR) to an IPL play-off showdown against Gujarat Titans after a 47-run drubbing of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The 15-year-old, who grabbed the Orange Cap for the most runs this season (680), destroyed Hyderabad’s famed bowling with an incredible 29-ball 97, around which Rajasthan constructed an imposing 243-8 in Chandigarh. Jofra Archer then produced a furious opening burst which fetched him three wickets in three overs as Hyderabad were bowled out for 196 in the eliminator. The exciting Sooryavanshi unleashed another stunning exhibition of stroke-making as he breezed past Chris Gayle’s 12-year-old record for the most sixes (59) in a single edition of the IPL. With 65 sixes so far, the left-handed opener has put Gujarat’s bowling on notice ahead of Friday’s faceoff. The winner of the second qualifier will take on holders Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Sunday’s final in Ahmedabad. “I think a little, not too much,” Sooryavanshi said. “Try and keep things simple. I try to play with good intent and dominate the bowlers. I want to pressurise the bowler. My focus (today) was on contributing for the team, my focus now is how to win the trophy.” Sooryavanshi warmed up with a straight six off Pat Cummins in the first over, then set about the Australian captain in his next with three sixes and a four. Three more sixes in the following over, off Sakib Hussain, took him to his half-century in just 16 deliveries and he seemed on course for the fastest IPL hundred - Gayle holds that record, off 30 deliveries - when he pummelled Praful Hinge for three sixes and two fours. Hinge, however, had the last laugh, having Sooryavanshi caught at third man to the utter disappointment of a full house. With Yashasvi Jaiswal as a silent, admiring partner, Sooryavanshi had totally dominated an opening salvo of 125, off just 49 deliveries. Dhruv Jurel kept up the charge with a 20-ball fifty, but Hyderabad fought back in the final five overs which yielded just 36 to give their explosive batting line-up a whiff of a chance. Archer put paid to those aspirations as he blasted out the prolific Abhishek Sharma off the second ball with a rapid bouncer, and even though Ishan Kishan threatened briefly, the Englishman had his number too before cleaning up Travis Head to leave the chase in tatters. When Yash Raj Punja, the leg-spinner, trapped Heinrich Klaasen leg before off an ill-advised reverse sweep, the writing was on the wall. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Salil Arora delayed the inevitable, but Sooryavanshi and Rajasthan were not to be denied. “I like to be a perfectionist, but even today we should have got 260 right? But with the ball we were impressive, held our own,” Rajasthan captain Riyan Parag said. “It was a good performance under pressure. (On talks with VS) We don’t have any conversations. Just leave him alone. We give him a lot of batting practice and he does his thing,” he said. SRH captain Pat Cummins lauded Sooryavanshi efforts. “He played pretty well. A very good pitch but the margins are so small, you miss our yorker but he doesn’t miss. Pretty good wicket. We are a very well rounded team. Praful and Sakib were great. We are one of the youngest team to get into the playoffs, and the coaching team have unearthed a few gems. A few teams things have to go right to chase 245 but we lost a couple of wickets at the wrong time. One tiny bit away from being in the top two, but can’t doubt the boys’ efforts.”  BRIEF SCORES: Rajasthan Royals 243 for 8 (Sooryavanshi 97, Jurel 50, Hinge 3-54) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 196 (Reddy 38, Arora 35, Kishan 33, Archer 3-58, Burger 2-26) by 47 runs.

Sri Lankan pacer Eshan Malinga’s tight spell of 3-29 and a trademark blistering half-century by Abhishek Sharma helped Sunrisers Hyderabad down Chennai Super Kings by 10 runs Saturday in the Indian Premier League.After being put in to bat, Hyderabad posted a formidable 194-9 on the back of Abhishek’s 59 off 22 and veteran South Africa international Heinrich Klaasen’s 59 off 39.In reply, five-time winners Chennai lost opener and India’s T20 World Cup hero Sanju Samson cheaply for 7 off 3.Impact substitute Ayush Mhatre hit a quickfire 30 off 13, giving the chase momentum but a sharp catch by Klaasen cut short the teenager’s heroics.A flurry of quick wickets followed, stymying the run flow in the middle overs.Despite handy contributions by Australian T20 specialist Matthew Short and Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan, Chennai’s innings never recovered from the early blows.Chennai skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad blamed the defeat on the lack of partnerships in the middle over.“It was just about 80 runs needed in (the last) 10 overs in the chase,” he said. “From there it was just about building a couple of partnerships.”Malinga was ably assisted by Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who returned figures of 2-31 in his four overs.Sunrisers captain Ishan Kishan was all praise for his bowlers who he said helped his team cross the line despite being “20-30 (runs) short”. “Lovely when you have a bunch of young bowlers coming up with their plans,” said KishanEarlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a flying start with openers Abhishek and Travis Head notching up 75 runs in the powerplay. Head was the first to go, immediately followed by captain Ishan Kishan who was out for a first ball duck.Abhishek followed soon after. Klaasen held steady at one end before being bowled by pacer Anshul Kamboj. For Chennai, Kamboj returned the most productive figures, taking three wickets for 22 runs. Chennai are still waiting for the return of India legend MS Dhoni, who is recovering from a calf injury. BRIEF SCORESSunrisers Hyderabad 194 for 9 (Abhishek 59, Klaasen 59, Kamboj 3-22, Overton 3-37) beat Chennai Super Kings 184 for 8 (Mhatre 34, Malinga 3-29, Reddy 2-31) by 10 runs 

Indian Premier League champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will start the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad at ‌the Chinnaswamy Stadium on March ​28 after the ‌Indian cricket board Wednesday ‌announced the schedule ‌for the first phase ‌of the campaign. The BCCI released only the first phase of the schedule, covering matches from March 28 to April 12, as three states are scheduled to undergo State Assembly elections. The remaining fixtures will be released once the poll ​dates are announced. Mumbai Indians, joint record five-times champions, launch their campaign at home to the ‌Kolkata Knight Riders on March ​29. Fellow five-time winners Chennai Super ​Kings begin the following day when they travel to face the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. Matches in Bengaluru remain subject to clearance from an expert committee nominated by the Government of Karnataka. The Chinnaswamy Stadium has not staged any cricket with fans since a stampede ‌killed 11 people ‌in June while RCB supporters were celebrating the team’s maiden IPL title outside the arena. RCB are slated to play five home matches in Bengaluru and two in Raipur during this year’s IPL. “The committee will conduct a meeting and inspection of ​the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 13, 2026, during which a full-scale mock demonstration of match-day arrangements will be carried out to assess the stadium’s preparedness for hosting IPL matches,” the BCCI said in a statement. The IPL runs from March 28 ‌to May ​31.
