Participants at the 4th Private Sector Social Responsibility and Its Role in Sustainable Development Conference have adopted the Doha Declaration 2026, outlining a long-term roadmap to align business profitability with sustainability and social impact.The two-day conference, hosted by the Qatar Chamber, concluded on Thursday with recommendations focusing on unified standards for corporate social responsibility (CSR), stronger governance of global value chains, and increased investment in innovation, digital transformation and green finance.The declaration calls for the adoption of a unified professional classification for CSR, proposing the Arab CSR Index as a regional benchmark. It also urges family-owned businesses to embed environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices into their operations and to support initiatives promoting digital education, community health, women's empowerment, youth engagement and social entrepreneurship.Participants highlighted the importance of investing in artificial intelligence and green technologies to improve efficiency and reduce carbon footprints. The conference also recommended launching an International Observatory for Sustainability and Social Responsibility, alongside professional exchange and twinning programs aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and spreading a culture of social responsibility among younger generations.A key theme of the conference was the shift away from traditional charity-based CSR towards an integrated ESG-driven model aligned with international sustainability standards, seen as essential for long-term business resilience and economic competitiveness in the Arab world.The Doha Declaration 2026 also emphasised humanitarian solidarity, calling for the creation of joint Arab funds and initiatives to support research and development and digital entrepreneurship.Conference participants described social responsibility as a strategic pillar of good governance, arguing that the private sector plays a central role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and in building trust between businesses and society.Organised jointly by the Qatar Chamber, the Union of Arab Chambers, the League of Arab States, the Regional Network Consultancy and the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the conference began on Wednesday and brought together business leaders, policymakers and international partners.Organisers said the declaration represents a collective commitment to translating the conference's vision into practical policies, laying the foundations for what they described as a new social contract that balances growth with sustainability and equity for future generations. 

Her Excellency the Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi (pictured) affirmed that Qatar National Day (QND) is an occasion that embodies the meanings of loyalty and belonging, and reinforces the values of unity and cohesion that have characterised Qatari society throughout its history.It is also an occasion to celebrate the nation’s achievements across various fields. In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Her Excellency said that the day provides an opportunity to strengthen Qatari identity and consolidate the values of citizenship and social responsibility, particularly under this year’s slogan ‘With You It Rises, From You It Awaits’ which reflects the central role of people in the country’s progress and emphasises the importance of collective efforts in building a cohesive society. She noted that the Qatari family serves as the primary nurturing environment where children are raised with love and loyalty to the homeland, making it a fundamental pillar of comprehensive development.Her Excellency highlighted that the Ministry of Social Development and Family follows a clear vision that places the family at the centre of social development, working to empower families, enhance their stability, and support their educational and social roles. She further explained that this approach aligns with the ministry’s 2025-2030 Strategy (From Care to Empowerment), which aims to invest in human capital, develop programmes that strengthen family cohesion, expand social protection coverage, and empower priority groups to ensure a balanced and stable society. Her Excellency stressed that the family would remain the cornerstone of societal stability and the foundation of national progress, affirming the ministry’s continued commitment to implementing social and economic empowerment plans.

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) announced that its president, Dr Salem Al-Naemi, has been awarded the honorary title of ‘International Ambassador for Social Responsibility’ by the Regional Network for Social Responsibility.The recognition celebrates Dr Al-Naemi’s exceptional and longstanding contributions to social responsibility and sustainable development, both nationally and across the Arab region, a statement said. The Regional Network for Social Responsibility is a professional non-profit organisation with global memberships in leading international institutions such as the UN Global Compact, the International Rehabilitation Organisation, and the International Union for Social Responsibility.Dr Al-Naemi was selected for the honour in recognition of his impactful leadership in embedding social responsibility principles within every institution he has served, it was explained.“This recognition is a reflection of the collective effort at UDST to champion social responsibility and sustainability,” Dr Al-Naemi said. “As educators and leaders, it is our duty to integrate these values into our academic and community initiatives, inspiring others to contribute to the well-being and development of society,” he added.During the ceremony in Doha, Prof Dr Ali al-Ibrahim, vice-president of the Regional Network for Social Responsibility stated that Dr Al-Naemi embodies the model of an academic leader who believes that education is not merely the transfer of knowledge, but a mission to build individuals, advance communities, and strengthen values.“Under his leadership, the University of Doha for Science and Technology has become a beacon of innovation, integrating education, social responsibility, and sustainability. Its initiatives have significantly contributed to national development, youth empowerment, and capacity building in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030.”The recognition is part of the Network’s International Ambassadors for Social Responsibility programme, launched in 2014 to honour distinguished figures from around the world who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to advancing social responsibility.With this accolade, Dr Al-Naemi joins a select group of Arab and international leaders recognised for their influence, dedication, and leadership in promoting ethical, inclusive, and sustainable practices at both the national and global levels, the statement added.
