Bukayo Saka scored a hat-trick as England held off a stunning France fightback to claim a 6-4 victory in a madcap Miami thriller on Saturday, securing third place for their best World Cup finish since their sole title triumph in 1966.In a match of two halves where defending was a second thought, Kylian Mbappe scored twice to become the all-time World Cup top scorer as France battled back from 4-0 down at halftime to come within a handful of missed chances of equalising.Saka completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot three minutes from time to make it 5-3 and calm England's nerves, having scored twice in the first half after goals from Declan Rice and Ezri Konsa had given England the perfect start.There was still time for a strike from Ousmane Dembele to offer France hope, but substitute Jude Bellingham snuffed it out deep in stoppage time with his seventh goal atthe tournament - the most by an England player at a single World Cup."We had a brilliant first half and then a turbulent second half," said England manager Thomas Tuchel."We are so, so tired and drained from the last weeks ... I have said it before, this team has created something very special, and they showed it again."The total of 10 goals was the highest for a third-place playoff match, bettering France's 6-3 victory over West Germany at the 1958 tournament.France, hoping to send 2018 World Cup-winning coach Didier Deschamps home with a victory in his final match in charge, exploded into life in the second half with Mbappe's double taking his tournament tally to 10 goals.That sent him two ahead of Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot as the tournament's top scorer and saw him pass the Argentine as the all-time World Cup leading scorer with 22."In the first half, I can understand those who say we were taking the piss, that we didn't respect the shirt," said Mbappe."I would say instead that we were human. Unfortunately, we were completely stunned. They gave us a proper wake-up call."In the second half, we became top-level players again, mental machines who no longer have feelings."The 39-year-old Messi will have one more chance to bump up his own tallies on Sunday when Argentina take on Spain in the final at New York New Jersey Stadium.  ENGLAND ATTACK FROM KICKOFFThe clash to decide third place is the match that no team wants to play and both coaches rejigged their teams with Deschamps putting out a second-string defence.Perhaps stung by criticism of England's passivity in the latter stages of their semi-final loss to Argentina, Thomas Tuchel's side attacked from kickoff with Rice charging forward to lash home the opener as early as the third minute.The midfielder turned provider in the 18th minute as Konsa headed home England's second from his corner.Tuchel's sidewere playing passes that went forward rather than sideways and several split the French defence wide open.Saka was the beneficiary of two such passes, opening his account in the 37th minute and getting his second nine minutes later as England drove home their dominance.Deschamps brought on Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Digne at the break to stiffen up his defence and suddenly the momentum was all with France.Mbappe, whohad clearly been desperate to get on the scoresheet in the first half, netted his first three minutes after the restart and his second in the 66th minute from another Michael Olise assist to reduce the deficit to 4-3.Bradley Barcola had ghosted through a tiring England defence to slot home France's second goal in the 54th.England, on the ropes, still tried to attack when the chance presented itself and ultimately did enough to secure third place for the first time after losing the playoff in 1990 and 2018."It's more disappointing for the coach (Deschamps)," said Mbappe. "We wanted to do something for him, but unfortunately the first half gave the impression that we had let him down."We want to thank the coach for everything he has done. This match will not tarnish the legend of Didier Deschamps." 

Bukayo Saka said that Arsenal's critics were "not laughing at us anymore" as the club celebrated their first Premier League title in more than two decades.Gunners players and staff gathered at the club's London Colney training ground on Tuesday to watch closest challengers Manchester City draw 1-1 away to Bournemouth – a result which gave Arsenal an unassailable four-point lead at the top of the table with just Sunday's final round of matches remaining.As the Arsenal squad relished the club's first Premier League title since 2004, there were also joyous scenes at the north London side's Emirates Stadium, where thousands of supporters gathered to mark the occasion by lighting fireworks and flares.Arsenal, runners-up in the league for the previous three seasons, had faced accusations of "bottling" their title bid, with several observers questioning their temperament and ability to handle pressure following a 2-1 defeat at City on April 19.But while City subsequently drew at Everton and then at Bournemouth, Arsenal won their next four league games without conceding a goal. Arsenal's success meant Gunners boss Mikel Arteta joined a select group who've won English titles both as a player and manager.Arteta, who rejoined Arsenal as manager in December 2019 with the club in dire straits, installed a blacked-out Premier League trophy at Colney which would light up only when the Gunners won the title"Light that up," Saka said in footage posted by defender Jurrien Timber on his Instagram account. "Let me tell you something. Twenty-two years, 22 years. there was laughing, there was joking, they're not laughing anymore," the England international added. "Look, it is going to be shining, it is going to be shining bright."In an Instagram post, this time on Saka's channel, Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly was seen holding a champagne bottle. "They called us bottlers," said Lewis-Skelly who, like Saka, came through the club's Hale End Academy youth system. "And now we're holding the bottle."Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger featured in a celebratory post put out by his old side. The Frenchman, who won three Premier League titles with the Gunners, including the 2004 'Invincibles', said: "You did it. Champions go on when others stop. This is your time. Now, go on and enjoy every moment."City manager Pep Guardiola, who had Arteta as his assistant for two of the Manchester club's league titles, paid tribute to his fellow Spaniard. "On behalf of everyone at Manchester City, we congratulate Mikel and all the staff, players and fans on winning the Premier League," Guardiola said. "They deserve it, for so much hard work and effort."Arsenal will be presented with the Premier League trophy after their final match of the domestic season at Crystal Palace on Sunday. The Gunners could yet end the campaign with an impressive double when they go in search of their first Champions League title against Paris Saint-Germain in a Budapest final on May 30. Arsenal players in dawn celebrations after winning Premier LeagueMeanwhile, Arsenal players were pictured celebrating with fans at 5am at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday after they clinched the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years. Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber were pictured in the early hours in an Instagram post by their teammate Eberechi Eze. Thousands of fans had gathered outside the stadium while Manchester City, needing a win to keep the title race alive, played at Bournemouth. The crowd grew as Bournemouth took the lead and although City equalised in injury time, the draw meant the title was heading to North London. Some supporters marked the occasion by lighting fireworks and flares. The players held a party at their London Colney training ground with coach Mikel Arteta and then took the celebrations to the Emirates Stadium. Many of the players said the title win was especially sweet as they had finished runners-up for the past three seasons. Arsenal fans thronged around the stadium, hanging out of car windows and waving flags. Arsene Wenger, the French coach who was in charge when Arsenal won their last title in 2004, addressed the players in a video on the club's social media channels. "You did it! Champions go on when others stop. This is your time. Now, go on and enjoy every moment," Wenger said. Ian Wright, the striker who scored 185 times for Arsenal and was a member of the side that clinched the domestic double in 1998, was mobbed by fans as he celebrated outside the Emirates. Arteta's side will formally be presented with the trophy on Sunday after their final match of the season at Crystal Palace.  Then they will turn their attention to winning a Champions League title for the first time when they face Paris Saint-Germain in the final in Budapest on May 30.
