Farhan leads Pakistan to T20 win over Sri Lanka

Pakistan's newest skipper Sahibzada Farhan hit a swashbuckling half-century to guide Pakistan to a four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the first T20 international in Rawalpindi on Friday.Farhan, appointed captain last month, smacked 89 off 53 balls with 10 fours and four sixes, guiding Pakistan to their target of 183 in 18.5 overs.The win gives Pakistan a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.Sri Lanka posted 182-8 as opener Lahiru Udara struck 91 off 55 balls after the tourists won the toss and batted.Farhan and Fakhar Zaman got the hosts off to a rollicking start of 54-0 in five overs as Sri Lanka's attack failed to stop the flow of runs, with Zaman scoring 21 off 13.Maaz Sadaqat kept the momentum flowing as he hit three sixes and four fours in a brisk 50, adding 92 runs with his skipper to lead Pakistan to within sight of victory.Pakistan lost Hasaz Nawaz and Saim Ayub cheaply before Farhan was caught in the deep, but it did not derail their chase.Earlier, Udara hit the highest T20 score by a Sri Lankan against Pakistan, improving upon Kusal Perera's 84 in Dubai in 2013.Udara added 60 runs for the third wicket with Kamindu Mendis (23) after a poor start saw captain Kusal Mendis dismissed for one and Kamil Mishara depart for six, helping the team recover from 18-2.Dasun Shanaka offered brief support as he and Udara added 57 for the fifth wicket, with Sri Lanka taking 66 runs off the last six overs.Fast bowler Naseem Shah grabbed 3-36 for Pakistan, while debutant Mohammad Imran took 2-21.The remaining two matches are on Sunday and Tuesday, both in Rawalpindi. BRIEF SCORESPakistan 187 for 6 (Farhan 89, Sadaqat 50, Malinga 2-33) beat Sri Lanka 182 for 8 (Udara 91, Naseem 3-36, Imran 2-21) by 4 wickets

Pakistan replace Agha as T20I skipper ahead of Sri Lanka match

Pakistan replaced Salman Agha on Monday with Sahibzada Farhan as skipper for this week's Twenty20 international home series against Sri Lanka, while Shaheen Shah Afridi was retained as one-day skipper.Farhan, Pakistan's fourth T20I captain in two and a half years, led a second-string team in the Asian Games in Japan where they lost to arch-rivals India in the final on Saturday.While no reason was given for removing Agha, Pakistan selectors had hinted they were looking at building the team for the Twenty20 World Cup 2028, to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.Under Agha, Pakistan won 31 of 50 T20Is but failed to progress to the semi-finals in this year's World Cup.Both Shaheen and Babar Azam -- another former T20I captain -- are not part of the 15-member squad which will take on Sri Lanka on October 9, 11 and 13 in Rawalpindi.Allrounder Razaullah is rewarded with a maiden call in both squads following his brilliant Test debut against England at Edgbaston last month, hitting 81 and taking four wickets.Shaheen will continue to lead Pakistan's one-day side, which will play a tri-series against Sri Lanka and England starting October 18 in Rawalpindi.Senior wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan -- dropped from the T20I squad earlier this year -- is also removed from the ODI side.Rizwan faces an investigation by Pakistan's cybercrime agency on charges of leaking team information.Pakistan T20I squad: Sahibzada Farhan (captain), Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Arafat Minhas, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Nawaz, Muhammad Imran, Khawaja Nafay, Maaz Sadaqat, Naseem Shah, Razaullah, Saim Ayub, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Shadab Khan, Sufiyan MoqimPakistan ODI squad: Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Salman Ali Agha, Arafat Minhas, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori, Haris Rauf, Hasan Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Razaullah, Saad Baig, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Sufiyan Moqim

Farhan’s superb ton fires Pakistan into Super 8 with win over Namibia

Pakistan became the final team to qualify for the Super Eight of the Twenty20 World Cup after Sahibzada Farhan’s maiden international century powered them to a ‌thumping 102-run victory over Namibia in Colombo Wednesday. Farhan remained unbeaten on exactly ‌100 off 58 balls, reaching his landmark in the ‌final over as Pakistan posted ‌199 in their must-win Group A ‌encounter at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground. Despite a slow start, the opener’s explosive knock featured 11 boundaries and four sixes, with skipper Salman Agha contributing a useful 38 and Shadab Khan adding an unbeaten 36 that included two sixes in the final over of the innings. “Early on the wicket wasn’t that easy to bat on, I told (opener) Saim (Ayub) we’ll take some time (to settle in) and I was confident that with time we could set a target,” said Farhan, who was named the player of the match. “The partnership with Shadab ‌was important. The idea was to build a partnership and once the partnership gets going, I would take charge and Shadab can hit as well.” Namibia’s chase never gained momentum despite a promising start from opener Louren Steenkamp, who raced to 23 before the African side began losing wickets at regular intervals. Shadab (3-19) proved instrumental with the ball as well, dismissing skipper Gerhard Erasmus before having Alexander Busing-Volschenk stumped for 20 when the middle-order batter charged down the pitch as the required run rate mounted. Spinner ‌Usman Tariq cleaned up the ‌tail and finished with career-best figures of 4-16 as Namibia were dismissed for 97, ending their World Cup campaign without a win to finish bottom of the group. Pakistan skipper Salman Agha was beaming when he described the win as a “complete performance”. “We started really well and in the middle, we put partnerships on and then finished well,” he said after the match. “Sahibzada has been outstanding, the way he’s been batting for us for the last six months. He scored a hundred today and I’m very happy for him. “When it comes to bowling, we were lethal and we were ruthless. We bowled in the right areas.” All teams in the Super Eight have also secured automatic qualification for the next edition of the tournament in Australia and New Zealand in 2028. T20 WORLD CUP SUPER EIGHT TEAMSGroup A: India, PakistanGroup ‌B: Sri Lanka, ZimbabweGroup C: West Indies, EnglandGroup D: South Africa, New Zealand BRIEF SCORESPakistan 199 for 3 (Farhan 100*, Agha 38, Brassell 2-38) beat Namibia 97 (Steenkamp 23, Tariq 4-16, Shadab 3-19) by 102 runs
