* Noh shoots two-under 69 to reach seven under overall* Five players share second place on four under, including Ryu and Thitikul* Overnight leader Ryu tumbles after six bogeys in a 3-over 74   American Yealimi Noh moved to the brink of a ​breakthrough major title after carding ‌a two-under-par 69 to take a three-shot lead after the third ‌round of the ⁠Women's British Open ‌at Royal Lytham on Saturday.Noh produced a ‌composed display down the stretch, playing the back nine in three under par before ⁠closing with a par at the last to finish at seven under overall."I had a little bit of a rough start, a couple bogeys on the front nine. Actually a chip-in par save on the second, which was nice," Noh told reporters."I just fell out of tempo a little bit and then got it together for the back nine, and it was really solid. Had some ​good par saves."The 25-year-old will take a three-shot advantage into Sunday's final round as she chases her maiden major championship.A group of five players share second place on four under, ‌including Japan's Shiho Kuwaki and South ⁠Korea's Haeran Ryu, ​who both closed with pars despite difficult rounds. World number two ​Jeeno Thitikul, American Lucy Li and Germany's Esther Henseleit are also three shots off the lead.Li recorded one of the rounds of the day with a two-under 69, while Thitikul stayed firmly in contention after parring every hole on the back nine in a one-over 72.Ryu, the overnight leader, endured a dramatic reversal. The South Korean briefly stretched her advantage to five shots after reaching nine under early in her round, but six bogeys saw her slump to a three-over 74 and fall back into the chasing pack.WOAD IN CONTENTIONEngland's Lottie ‌Woad remained firmly in the hunt ‌after a third-round 70 left ⁠the amateur at three under overall, four shots behind Noh. Charley Hull, Minami Katsu, ⁠Chanettee Wannasaen and Ayaka Furue were ⁠another shot back at two under."Yeah, that back nine was playing very tough with that wind. Probably the strongest it's been all week and playing long, so definitely pars were good on that," Woad told reporters."Then eventually knew that 16 would be a good chance and managed to capitalize on that."Hull also kept her hopes alive with ​a level-par round. Roared on by the home crowd, the Englishwoman produced a superb approach to the final green before settling for a closing par and a share of eighth place.Noh's surge contrasted sharply with a frustrating finish for former world number one Nelly Korda.The American birdied the 17th to climb the leaderboard before a wayward tee shot on the final hole led to a costly double-bogey six. Korda ended the day tied for 17th on even par, seven strokes behind the leader.With ‌Noh holding a three-shot ​cushion but five players within striking distance, the championship is poised for a compelling final-round battle on Sunday. 

* Ryu posts five-under 66 in breezy opening round at Royal Lytham* Noh sits one shot back after first-round 67* World number one Korda opens with two-over 73 South Korea's ‌Ryu Hae-ran began her hunt for a third successive major ​with a five-under 66 ‌to sit on top of the first-round leaderboard at ‌a breezy ⁠Royal Lytham on ‌Thursday.World number one Nelly Korda, ‌also with two major wins this season, struggled to a two-over 73, ⁠never recovering from two bogeys in her opening three holes.Fellow American Yealimi Noh was the closest to Ryu's score midway through the afternoon after carding a 67.Ryu won the PGA Championship and became the first golfer to shoot a round of 60 at a major to claim the Evian title this month and looked ​full of confidence.She got off to the perfect start with a birdie on the par-three first and gained further shots at the fourth, sixth and seventh ‌holes with her accurate iron ⁠play setting up ​opportunities.A bogey at the 15th was her only blemish ​but she responded by holing an 18-foot putt for birdie at the 16th before another birdie at the last. "This type of golf course it is hard to make par if you go in the fairway bunkers and today I hit a couple of times in the bunkers but made some pretty good saves," she told reporters."Hopefully, tomorrow I'll stay in the fairway." A MOUNTAIN TO CLIMBKorda has already given herself a mountain to climb but England's Lottie Woad put ‌herself in the mix ‌with a solid opening 69, ⁠featuring no bogeys.Woad, who along with Charley Hull will be fancied ⁠to become the first English ⁠winner since Georgia Hall at Lytham in 2018, was frustrated as an eagle putt lipped out on the sixth and then a birdie putt suffered the same fate at the seventh.Despite missing a few putts, however, Woad was happy with her start, especially as she avoided any ​bunkers."A good start. No bogeys, which is always a good round here. Hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens. Didn't make too many putts but definitely take two under."New Zealand's Lydia Ko, winner of the title in 2024, carded a level-par first round while defending champion Miyu Yamashita was one over after nine holes.Several of the later starters were making moves with Spanish amateur Paula Martin ‌Sampedro on four ​under after 13 with Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul also on four under after nine.
