Qatar has shown great resilience in connecting with other countries and providing value chains, especially in the recent months of geopolitical uncertainty, HE the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Sayed said yesterday. Taking part in a panel discussion on “Rebuilding Global Value Chains for Growth and Resilience”, HE Dr al-Sayed said: “Qatar has shown great resilience in the last few months during this crisis. We intend to connect more and we are not going backward. Actually, we intend to connect more, to be open, as we always. So we intend to be open and need to connect with different economies.” Speaking about Qatar’s approach to connecting investment, trade, services and domestic businesses with international markets, the minister said that the country is determined to deepen its global economic engagement rather than retreat from international markets. HE Dr al-Sayed outlined four key pillars underpinning Qatar’s approach: strengthening supply chains, expanding access to international markets, developing exports of goods and services, and deepening global partnerships to attract investment and support businesses. Qatar intends to use trade agreements and partnerships, including those involving the Gulf Co-operation Council, to access new markets and broaden domestic companies’ international reach. HE Dr al-Sayed said the country’s export strategy would extend beyond goods to place greater emphasis on services. As Qatar continues to develop its industrial base and expand manufacturing capabilities, it is also prioritising sectors such as logistics, advanced manufacturing, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI), in line with its strategic sectoral priorities. “We intend to double down on this,” the minister said. He also highlighted Qatar’s role as a long-term international investor through both its sovereign investment fund and private sector, saying that both were keen to expand overseas and establish partnerships with international counterparts. “Before being an FDI (foreign direct investment) global hub for trade and business, we are an investor, we are a long-term investor,” HE Dr al-Sayed said. “We will ensure resilience of our value chain and work together with our partners in GCC and globally.”
