Lusail stage dramatic comeback to defeat Al Sailiya 2-1

Rodrigo Moreno strikes in stoppage time as Lusail secure a valuable three points in the eighth round of the Qatar Stars League (QSL) on Saturday.Lusail produced a spirited comeback to secure a thrilling 2-1 victory over Al Sailiya in the eighth round of the league at Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium on Saturday evening, with Spanish forward Rodrigo Moreno scoring a dramatic late winner to seal all three points.The victory lifts Lusail to seventh place in the league standings with nine points, while Al Sailiya remain at the foot of the table with just one point.Al Sailiya made a flying start, taking the lead in just the third minute through Andre Syahputra. The early setback prompted Lusail to step up their attacking efforts in search of an equaliser, with the team gradually gaining momentum and putting pressure on their opponents.In the 21st minute, referee Mohammed Nasser, following a VAR review, decided not to award Lusail a penalty after an incident involving Al Sailiya’s Abdulaziz Metwally and Lusail's Omid Ebrahimi.Lusail continued to press forward and were rewarded in the 38th minute when Khaled Mohammed restored parity. The equaliser came following an excellent attacking move down the right flank by Hamed Reza Firouzi, who delivered a perfectly weighted cross for Khaled to finish confidently past Al Sailiya goalkeeper Yousef Mohammed.Both sides went into the half-time break level at 1-1.The second half saw an entertaining contest, with both teams creating opportunities in their pursuit of a decisive goal. The goalkeepers were called into action on several occasions, producing important saves to keep their respective sides in the game.Lusail continued to threaten through the individual brilliance of Moreno and Hamed Reza Firouzi, while Khaled Mohammed and Omid Ebrahimi made valuable forward runs from deeper positions as the home side pushed for a winner.Their persistence finally paid off in the fourth minute of stoppage time. In the 90+4th minute, Hamed Reza Firouzi delivered another outstanding pass, this time from the left flank, which found Moreno in the perfect position. The Spanish forward made no mistake, sending the ball into the back of the net to spark celebrations and complete a memorable comeback for Lusail.The result marked Lusail’s second victory of the current league campaign, following their emphatic 4-0 win over Al Wakrah in the third round.Following the final whistle, Hamed Reza Firouzi was named Man of the Match in recognition of his outstanding contribution. The winger played a decisive role in the victory, providing the assists for both Lusail goals and proving instrumental in the team’s attacking performance.The match also witnessed impressive support from Lusail’s passionate fanbase, known as Al Khayala (The Knights). Supporters turned out in large numbers, displaying banners featuring the club's name and players' names while passionately cheering the team throughout the encounter.Their enthusiastic backing created a vibrant atmosphere at the stadium and once again demonstrated the strong bond between the club and its supporters.The match attracted a total attendance of 7,957 spectators, adding to the excitement of an evening that ended with a memorable victory for Lusail.

At Al Thumama Stadium, Al Rayyan and Al Arabi shared the points despite several chances at both ends.

Rayyan held as Sadd stay top in three-way title race

Al Rayyan missed the chance to move clear at the top of the Qatar Stars League after being held to a goalless draw by Al Arabi on Saturday, leaving them level on 18 points with leaders Al Sadd and third-placed Al Duhail after the eighth round.Rayyan, who started the day level with Sadd, remained second on goal difference (+13), behind the leaders (+17). Duhail are third also with 18 points and a goal difference of +11 after beating Al Wakrah 3-1 on Saturday. Al Arabi sit fourth on 13 points, while Lusail climbed to seventh with nine points following a late 2-1 win over bottom side Al Sailiya.At Al Thumama Stadium, Al Rayyan and Al Arabi shared the points despite several chances at both ends. Al Arabi started brightly and threatened through Pablo Sarabia, whose effort was saved by Rayyan goalkeeper Mahmoud Abu Nada in the 11th minute.Rayyan responded through Ahmed Alaa, who beat his marker before unleashing a powerful shot that Al Arabi goalkeeper Jassim al-Hail kept out in the 22nd minute. Al Arabi continued to press, with Ahmed Fathi seeing his effort saved in the 31st minute.Sarabia tested Abu Nada again in the 42nd minute before Roger Guedes wasted a golden opportunity a minute later, delaying his shot when through on goal.Al Arabi maintained their attacking pressure after the break and came close to breaking the deadlock in the 69th minute when Fathi's powerful effort was turned behind for a corner.Rayyan gradually found their footing and pushed forward in search of a winner, but Al Arabi's defence held firm as the match ended goalless.At Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Al Duhail produced a strong finish to beat Al Wakrah and maintain their challenge at the top of the table.Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek put Duhail ahead in the 14th minute before Amin Zahzouh equalised for Wakrah. Duhail regained the lead through Sultan al-Buraik in the 85th minute, and Omar Sekou made sure of the three points with a third goal two minutes later.

Lusail’s Mesquita expects tough test against Al Sailiya

Lusail SC head coach Emanuel Mesquita and midfielder Mohammed Taher have stressed the team’s determination to return to winning ways when they face Al Sailiya in round 8 of the Qatar Stars League (QSL).Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Mesquita said his side was well prepared for Saturday’s encounter and confident of securing all three points after suffering defeat against Al Duhail in the previous round.“Our preparations have gone well. The players are in high spirits and working exceptionally hard to secure a positive result against Al Sailiya,” Mesquita said.The Portuguese coach warned against underestimating their opponents, emphasizing that Al Sailiya would be equally determined to improve their position in the standings.**media[510199]**“It will be a very challenging match. We must be at our best, both technically and physically, to claim the three points,” he added.Mesquita also expressed confidence in Lusail’s overall performances, noting that the team had demonstrated its ability to compete against every opponent but needed to turn those performances into more points.Reflecting on the defeat to Al Duhail, he said Lusail had shown resilience by fighting back and creating further chances to equalize, even after falling behind 2-1. However, the team was unable to convert those opportunities into goals.Meanwhile, Taher reaffirmed the squad’s readiness for the upcoming fixture, insisting that the players had put the previous result behind them and were fully focused on Al Sailiya.“Our preparations are proceeding as they would for any other league match. We have moved on from the Al Duhail game, and our focus is now entirely on Al Sailiya. We are looking forward to securing all three points,” Taher said.He said that there were no easy matches in the QSL, regardless of a team’s position in the standings, and called for full commitment from the opening whistle until the final minutes.**media[510200]**“We will approach the match with full intensity from the start and fight until the final whistle,” he added.Reflecting on the previous round, Taher described the match against Al Duhail as a difficult and competitive contest, praising his teammates for their efforts throughout the game. He believed Lusail could have secured at least a draw but acknowledged that the result had not gone their way.With both Mesquita and Taher emphasizing the importance of a positive response, Lusail will look to turn their determination into three valuable points against Al Sailiya on Saturday.The match will take place at Suheim bin Hamad Stadium (Qatar SC Stadium) on October 31, with kick-off scheduled for 5:15PM.

Dala strikes late as Al Wakrah stun Al Arabi

A late thrilling strike from Angolan forward Gelson Dala saw Al Wakrah stage a stunning comeback and beat Al Arabi 3-2 in their round seven match of the Qatar Stars League (QSL) at the Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday.In the second game, Al Duhail scored twice in stoppage time to beat Lusail 3-1 in a dramatic tie at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium.The result saw Al Duhail move into the top three with 15 points to their credit and tied with second-placed Al Sadd. Al Rayyah are at the top with 17 points, Al Arabi now fourth with 12 points and Al Wakrah fifth with 11 points.Dala scored the winner for The Blue Wave in the 88th minute after Amin Zahzouh had equalized in 83rd minute, and Nasser al-Yazidi scored their opening goal in the 69th minute.For Al Arabi, Michael Olunga had scored both their goals in the 38th and 45th minute.Dala made a fine run after picking on a Luis Alberto assist to go on and score. The linesman had raised the flag as Dala scored but VAR later green signalled the goal for Al Wakrah.Earlier, Al Wakrah fought back from being two goals down after the break.Zahzouh essayed a fine diagonal kick from a Murad Naji cross for the equalizer. The attacking Moroccan player struck from right of the box, sending the ball through defenders and beating the goalkeeper hollow in the left corner.Zahzouh prior to scoring had provided al-Yazidi with a fine cross to make a successful header.Al Arabi seemed to be sitting pretty when Olunga first made a header and later deflected in an Isaac Lihaji cross but they lost the plot in the second session.In 90+11 minute, Al Arabi’s Alexis Perez received a red card for violent conduct.At the start of the second half, Al Arabi’s Marwan Sherif suffered an injury as he fell face down and had to be wheeled off. Additional 15 minutes were added to the match at the end.It was Al Wakrah’s third win of the league and provided them with the three valuable points, while the first setback for Al Arabi. Late scare for DuhailLusail, coached by Emanuel Mesquita, appeared to have earned a valuable point when Rodrigo Moreno levelled the score in the 89th minute against Al Duhail after Qatar international Almoez Ali had put the Red Knights ahead in the 40th minute.Al Duhail, however, responded in style as Boubakary Soumare restored the lead in the 4th minute of added time, before Ali sealed full points with his second goal of the night deep into stoppage time.The result lifted Al Duhail in the standings, building on their win over Al Sadd in the previous round and keeping them in the title race. Lusail remained on six points.Belmadi’s men will now look to carry the momentum forward, while Mesquita’s team must regroup quickly after seeing a hard-earned point slip away in the dying minutes.Lusail will be looking to return to winning ways and secure a positive result against Al Sailiya next Saturday in the eighth round of the league. The match will take place at Suheim bin Hamad Stadium at 5:15 PM.

Al Sadd seek redemption as Al Duhail eye another statement win

All eyes will turn to Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Sunday evening as Qatar's football heavyweights, Al Sadd and Al Duhail, prepare to renew their fierce rivalry in a highly anticipated clash of the Qatar Stars League.Whenever these two sides meet, the occasion is rarely short of drama, intensity or quality. With both teams boasting considerable technical ability and ambitions of challenging for the league title, Sunday's encounter promises to be another compelling chapter in one of most eagerly awaited domestic fixtures.For defending champions Al Sadd, the mission is clear: bounce back, restore confidence and reclaim the top spot. For Al Duhail, the challenge is to build on their recent resurgence and strengthen their position among the league's leading contenders.The defending champions head into the derby with 12 points, but their momentum was checked by a disappointing 3-2 defeat against Al Arabi in the previous round. The result ended their winning streak and left the team eager to respond in front of their home supporters.Against a familiar and formidable rival, Al Sadd will need to rediscover the sharpness, composure and attacking rhythm that have made them such a formidable force. The pressure is undoubtedly on, but the occasion also offers an opportunity to make an immediate statement of intent.Head coach Razvan Lucescu knows the size of the task awaiting his players and has called for a determined, disciplined performance from the opening whistle.“It will be a very tough match between two excellent teams, and I expect it to be exciting and entertaining. It is very important for us to give our all and achieve victory, as we need to get back on the winning track,” Lucescu said.The Al Sadd coach stressed that desire alone would not be enough. His players must remain focused, fight for every ball and maintain their concentration throughout the contest.For Lucescu, the key will be seeing his team approach the match with the right mentality and the determination to compete until the final whistle. Against opponents of Al Duhail's calibre, even a brief lapse in concentration could prove costly.While Al Sadd are looking to recover from a setback, Al Duhail arrive with renewed belief following an emphatic 4-0 victory over Al Shamal.That result lifted the Red Knights to nine points and third place in the standings, providing a timely boost ahead of one of their biggest tests of the campaign.Djamel Belmadi's side will now look to carry that momentum into Sunday's showdown, knowing that another victory would not only strengthen their position but also bring them closer to the top of the table.However, the Al Duhail coach is under no illusions about the challenge awaiting his team. He recognises that matches against Al Sadd are often decided by fine margins, with intensity and individual moments capable of changing the course of the game.“The Al Sadd match is a derby, and it's always a very competitive and intense game. We've prepared well during our training sessions and worked hard, focusing heavily on recovery from our recent matches, given the short time between games,” Belmadi said.The coach also believes his team’s recent positive results can provide an important psychological advantage, giving the players greater confidence and motivation as they prepare for the demanding encounter.For Al Duhail, the objective will be to turn that confidence into another convincing performance while remaining tactically disciplined against a wounded champion.Beyond the three points on offer, Sunday's encounter carries significant implications for the league standings and the early-season title race.Al Sadd will be desperate to put their defeat to Al Arabi behind them, while Al Duhail will see the fixture as an opportunity to close the gap on the teams above them. Neither side can afford to approach the match casually, and the competitive nature of their rivalry should ensure a high-intensity contest.Much could depend on which team controls the midfield, manages possession more effectively and makes better use of its scoring opportunities. Defensive organisation will be equally important, particularly during transitions, when both sides have the technical quality to punish mistakes.Discipline and concentration could ultimately prove decisive. In a fixture where emotions often run high, the team that remains composed under pressure may gain the crucial advantage.With Al Sadd seeking redemption and Al Duhail determined to maintain their upward trajectory, the stage is set for a fascinating encounter at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.Lucescu wants his players to rediscover their winning mentality, while Belmadi hopes his side's growing confidence will translate into another important result. Both coaches understand that preparation, commitment and attention to detail will be essential if their teams are to emerge victorious.Sunday's showdown is therefore about more than local pride. It is an opportunity for Al Sadd to reaffirm their championship credentials and for Al Duhail to demonstrate that they are ready to challenge at the very top.With quality on both sides and plenty at stake, fans can expect a fiercely contested battle in which every tackle, every chance and every moment of concentration could make the difference.Al Rayyan face Al GharafaMeanwhile, table toppers Al Rayyan will meet Al Gharafa at the Thani Bin Jassim Stadium on Sunday at 7.45pm.The match presents various challenges for both sides. Al Gharafa would be looking to regain their footing, while Al Rayyan are seeking to maintain their lead at the top.The Cheetahs enter the clash under considerable pressure, having fallen to 10th place with a tally of only four points – a position that betrays the team’s pedigree and performance last season.Coach Pedro Martins is striving to arrest the slide by addressing the mistakes which may have impacted their results. He would surely be hoping for a win that will restore the players’ confidence and provide a much-needed boost to improve the team’s position in league standings.In contrast, Al Rayyan go into the match as table toppers with 13 points, aiming to continue their winning streak. The Lions will look to carry on the momentum and remain at the top.Al Rayyan coach Vicente Moreno said the clash was crucial for The Lions.“Yes, it is a big and very important match for us, especially after the last match. Tomorrow we need to win and we want to win, and I hope we will put on a very good performance for ourselves and for our fans. I repeat, it is a very important match for us, and we want to win.“We know that last season it was very difficult to beat them. We want to beat them because, after the last match, we want to win again, and we know the impact that would have on our fans. But ultimately, they also have a very good team, and I hope we can achieve victory.”Al Gharafa coach Pedro Martins said, “I’m confident that a turning point for us will come, and I hope we can achieve that in the upcoming match against Al Rayyan.“Everyone is striving to change things and the players are giving their all to achieve that. Therefore, I trust in the players’ potential, abilities, and determination to change the situation, and I know they will fight for it.“Al Rayyan started the season very well, and they have many solutions, whether in terms of local or foreign players. This is evident when the team makes substitutions, as you don’t feel a significant drop in the team’s level, which reflects the strength and balance of their group, given the quality of the players.“But we also have our strengths that we can rely on, and we are ready and we know Al Rayyan’s style of play. We will try to avoid mistakes as much as possible so that we do not pay a heavy price in terms of the result. We will face a team that plays with great confidence, and although it does not rely much on possession, it is capable of creating problems for opponents through direct attacks and quick counter-attacks,” he added.
