QSL participate in World Leagues Association's annual meeting, General Assembly

The Qatar Stars League Foundation (QSL) took part in the Annual Meetings and General Assembly of the World Leagues Association, held in Athens, Greece, over three days. Representatives from professional leagues across various continents attended, along with a delegation from FIFA and several international sports figures.CEO, Hani Taleb Ballan and Executive Director of Competitions and Football Development, Dr. Ahmed Khalil Abbasi held a number of meetings and discussions with officials and representatives of participating international leagues. The aim was to exchange experiences and learn about the latest programs related to competitions and football development.In addition, QSL's strategy for developing the league and promoting sustainability and professionalism was presented during a session that discussed the future of Asian championships and cooperation between leagues.The meetings addressed key topics, most notably: the global transfer system, multi-ownership clubs, the tournament calendar, and the development of women's football. An IFAB workshop on the latest video assistant referee (VAR) technology was also held, and several related legal issues were discussed.QSL's regular participation in these meetings reflects its commitment to strengthening relationships with various professional leagues worldwide, exchanging expertise, and staying abreast of the latest developments in football-related matters.

Rayyan beat Duhail, Shahaniya stun Sadd at QSL Cup

Al Rayyan defeated Al Duhail 3-1 in the fourth round of the QSL Cup at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium. Ali al-Qahtani opened the scoring for Al Rayyan in the 54th minute, with Mohammed Siraj and Faisal Mohammed adding goals in the 66th and 76th minutes respectively. Mubarak Shanan had earlier put Al Duhail ahead in the 35th minute. The win lifted Al Rayyan to 13 points, while Al Duhail remained on four. At the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, Al Shahaniya pulled off a surprise 2-1 victory over Al Sadd in an exciting contest. Mohammed Balah gave Al Shahaniya the lead in the 32nd minute, before Abdulrahman al-Sultan equalised early in the second half. However, Ali Saeed al-Mohannadi struck deep into stoppage time to hand Al Shahaniya their third win of the competition. Al Sadd, meanwhile, suffered their fourth defeat, having drawn once so far. In another fixture, Al Arabi crushed Lusail 6-1 at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium. Yazan al-Naimat scored a hat-trick (22nd, 34th, 87th minutes), while Joao Pedro netted twice (19th, 40th), and Michel Olunga added a sixth in the 75th minute. Mohammed Shaaban scored Lusail’s lone goal in the 57th minute. The result took Al Arabi to 13 points, while Lusail stayed on four. At Saud bin Abdulrahman Stadium, Al Gharafa and Mesaimeer played out a 2-2 draw. Moaz Adam and Abu Al-Qasim Mohammed put Al Gharafa 2-0 ahead, but Hamad Balgheeth struck twice to earn Mesaimeer a share of the spoils. Qatar SC, who were languishing in 16th place with three points, improved slightly to four following this round, while Mesaimeer moved to six points.

Al Arabi crush Al Duhail 4-0 as Umm Salal go second in table

Al Arabi handed Al Duhail a crushing 4-0 defeat in the fifth round match of the QSL Cup 2025-26 season at the Grand Hamad Stadium Sunday.The victory, Al Arabi’s third of the tournament, Sunday kept them in third place in the standings with 10 points – behind on goal difference with leaders Al Kharaitiyat and second-placed Umm Salal.Al Rayyan, also with 10 points, are in fourth spot.Al Duhail with a second loss and 4 points have slipped to 15th place.Al Arabi were on the attack against Al Duhail from the word go with Isaac Lihadji scoring in the 2nd minute of the match. Jordan Veretout scored the team’s second goal in the 40th minute.In the second half Aladin Hasan (67th minute) and Pablo Sarabia (72nd minute) added more to the tally.Umm Salal thrash Al Sadd 5-0 Earlier, Umm Salal blanked Al Sadd 5-0 at the Al Shamal Stadium.It was Umm Salal’s third win of the tournament while Al Sadd, who suffered their third defeat, remain on 1 point and in 19th place in the 20-team tournament.Umm Salal led 1-0 at half time only to come back steamrolling in the second session to score four more goals.Antonio Mance (38th minute), Cristo Gonzalez (48th minute), Jean Quaisi (70 & 82 minutes) and Ahmed Sayed (90+1 minute) got the goals for Umm Salal.Qatar SC beat Al Ahli 6-1Qatar SC yesterday beat Al Ahli 6-1 at Al Khor Stadium.The game was clearly beyond Al Ahli’s reach by the blast of the whistle for the closing of the first half, with Qatar SC leading 4-0, benefiting from two own goals from Al Ahli’s Khaled Hassan (second and 39th minutes), while Raoul Sanda (14th minute) and Saeed Brahmi (44th minute) added one each.The Brigadiers got their consolation goal in the 49th minute via a penalty kick through Talal Ali, but Joao Pedro (75th minute) and Yan Matheus (88th minute) added two more for Qatar SC to ensure the emphatic victory, which secured them their first 3 points (their only points so far) of the competition, while Al Ahli remained on 1 point.

Al-Muhannadi strikes winner as Al Shahania edge Al Khor

Al Shahania secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Al Khor in their Round 5 clash of the QSL Cup at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium on Saturday. Ali al-Muhannadi scored the winner for Shahania in the 77th minute after both sides were locked 2-2 at half time. Shahania had opening the scoring in the 19th minute through Jawad El Jemili while Pelle van Amersfoort put the side 2-0 ahead scoring off a penalty kick in the 27th minute. Al Khor hit back through Abdulrahman al-Harazi in the 42nd minute, and a minute later Sofiane Hanni got the equaliser. But al-Muhannadi struck to help Al Shahania gain the three valuable points. The second win of the tournament took Al Shahania’s tally to 7 points while Al Khor also remain at 7 points. Al Shamal thrash MarkhiyaAl Shamal thumped Al Markhiya 5-0 at the Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium. Shamal got their opening goal in the eighth minute through Naim Sliti. They doubled their lead in the 23rd minute as Younes El Hannach scored. Alex Collado added a third in the 45th minute. An own goal from Markhiya’s Ahmad Ismal (75th minute) added to Shamal’s scoreline. Mohamad Omar hit one home in added time (90+1 minute) to make it 5-0 for the winners. This was Al Shamal’s first win of the tournament and took their tally to 5 points while Al Markhiya remain on 4 points. Mesaimeer, Lusail draw Mesaimeer and Lusail played out a 1-1 draw at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. Mesaimeer’s Abdulkader Zoukh scored in the 12th minute, capitalising on some defensive errors by Lusail. The goal was the only difference between the sides for quite a while until Tamim al-Jabri secured the equaliser for Lusail in the 72nd minute to push them to four points in the standings, while Mesaimeer advanced to five points. Al Rayyan, Al Waab share points Al Rayyan and Al Waab played out a 2-2 draw at the Thani Bin Jassim Stadium. Al Waab took an early lead through Abdulrahman Sheikh Khan, who struck in the fifth minute to give his side a 1-0 advantage at halftime. Al Rayyan turned the game around early in the second half, with Brazilian forward Wesley Da Silva scoring twice in quick succession — in the 54th and 58th minutes — to put the Lions ahead. However, Al Waab snatched a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time when Mohammed Abu Shanab capitalised on a goalkeeping error to make it 2-2. With the result, Al Rayyan moved to 10 points, while Al Waab reached 6 points in the group standings.

Sailiya beat Gharafa 3-0 in the fifth round of QSL Cup

Al Sailiya defeated Al Gharafa 3-0 in the fifth round of the QSL Cup at the Grand Hamad Stadium. Abdulrahman Mohammed opened the scoring in the third minute, before Khaled Ali doubled the lead in the 11th. Hadi Ali sealed the victory with a third goal deep into stoppage time (90+2). At Al Khor Stadium, Al Bidda were held to a 2-2 draw by Muaither. Amen Allah Meherzi gave Al Bidda an early lead in the sixth minute, but Etyan Morales levelled for Muaither in the 28th. Albert Luque put Muaither ahead in the 47th minute, only for Cristian Del Bello to equalise from the penalty spot in stoppage time after a foul in the box. Elsewhere, Al Kharaitiyat drew 1-1 with Al Wakrah at Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium. Raul de Tomas opened the scoring for Al Wakrah in the 44th minute, but after Al Mahdi Ali was sent off early in the second half, Al Kharaitiyat took advantage, with Jordan Yuli Jele netting a late equaliser.

Rayyan survive late scare to down Wakrah in QSL Cup

Al Rayyan edged Al Wakrah 4-3 in a thrilling QSL Cup second-round at the Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium Tuesday.This was Al Rayyan’s second successive win and took their points tally to six, while Al Wakrah are yet to open their account. Adel Bader (17th minute), Faisal Nouman (34th minute), Bahaa Ellethy (52nd minute) and Moustafa El Sayed (90th minute) scored for Al Rayyan.For Al Wakrah, Abdulaziz Ibrahim (66th minute penalty), Ali Saleh (68th minute) and Abdelaziz Mohammed (90+6 minute) were on target. Al Rayyan’s Cas Campion Leadbetter was shown the red card in the 75th minute for a foul against Al Wakrah’s Abdulaziz Ibrahim.Adel Bader began the scoring for The Lions slamming from centre in front of goal after being in the clear. Nouman doubled their lead with a fine strike off a diagonal cross from Bader. Post break, Bahaa Ellethy deflected in the third goal following a corner and a header.Al Wakrah scored their first goal from the spot and soon made it 2-3, with Ali Saleh smartly lobbing it over the rival goalkeeper’s head. Al Rayyan hit back, with Moustafa El Sayed scoring with a fine strike (4-2). Al Wakrah’s Abdelaziz Mohammed reduced the margin beating a diving goalkeeper in dying moments of added time (4-3).Shahania, Shamal drawIn the other match, Al Shahania and Al Shamal played out a goalless draw at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium at Al Duhail. Al Shahania had some of the best chances of the almost evenly-balanced match, but they somehow found the rock-solid defence of Al Shamal seemingly impenetrable.Both sides are yet to record a win in the tournament, having both suffered a first-round loss, with Al Shahania losing 1-2 to Al Sailiya and Al Shamal being defeated 3-1 by Umm Salal. Both teams will definitely have to up their game in the next rounds for any chance of making it to the knockout stage.In Monday's matches, Al Bidda stunned Al Sadd 3-1 thanks to Abdallah Nouri's hat-trick. Muaither drubbed Al Gharafa 5-2, while Al Duhail beat Mesaimeer 2-1 and Al Arabi drew with Al Waab.

Nouri hat-trick helps Al Bidda stun Al Sadd

Abdallah Nouri bagged a hat-trick as Al Bidda registered its first win of the QSL Cup defeating Al Sadd 3-1 the second round match at Stadium 974 Monday.The 21-year-old right-winger from Algeria was in sensational form throughout the match as the Second Division team put it across giants Al Sadd in superb form, scoring first in the 7th minute before securing his second with a sensational finish in the 74th minute of the entertaining encounter.He then capped the night off with another beautiful goal in four minutes of added time to ensure an emphatic win and a night to remember for his team. Yaman Jarrar got Al Sadd’s lone goal in the 52nd minute, but his effort proved to be of no effect as Al Bidda recorded their first win of the tournament in style.Muaither beat Al Gharafa 5-2Spaniard Albert Ramis Luque scored a brace as Muaither drubbed Al Gharafa 5-2 in their second round match at the Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Stadium. This was Muaither’s first win of the tournament following their goalless draw against Al Markhiya in the opening round against. Muaither now have four points to their credit while Al Gharafa, who had a 3-3 draw in the first round against Al Sadd, are on one point.Muaither led 3-1 at half time. The goals for Muaither were scored by Albert Ramis (16th & 59th minutes), Youssef Al Yahri (31st minute), Ivan Morales (45+2 minute), and Abdulrahman Al Salahi (67th minute).For Al Gharafa, Florinel Coman scored in the 27th minute (Penalty) and in the 53rd minute.Al Duhail beat Mesaimeer 2-1Al Duhail scored a 2-1 win over Mesaimeer at the Al Shamal Stadium. It was a young Al Duhail team’s first win of the tournament following a goalless draw against Al Ahli in the opening round. It took Al Duhail’s points tally to four points while Mesaimeer have one point. Mesaimeer were put ahead in the 23rd minute by Youssef Dhaflaoui, who had also scored for his side in their previous match against Al Waab. Al Duhail, however, equalized a minute later through Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid (24th minute). Hamada Misbah Ghazy scored Al Duhail’s second goal in the 70th minute of the match.Al Arabi-Al Waab in 1-1 drawAl Arabi and Al Waab settled for a 1-1 draw at the Al Khor Stadium Monday. Ahmed Moeen scored for Al Arabi, while Baha Faisal equalized for Al Waab. Al Arabi thus raised their score to four points, following their 3-1 victory over Al Wakrah in the first round. Al Waab, meanwhile, have two points following a 1-1 draw with Mesaimeer in the first round. On Tuesday, Al Shahania will play Al Shamal at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium at 6pm while Al Rayyan will meet Al Wakrah in the 8pm clash at Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium.

Rodrigo hat-trick in Al Rayyan's win over Qatar SC

Al Rayyan rode on a Rodrigo Moreno Machado hat-trick to beat Qatar SC 4-1 in an impressive start to their QSL Cup campaign at the Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Stadium Wednesday.In the other matches of the day, Umm Salal beat Al Shamal 3-1; Al Sailiya beat Al Shahania 2-1; and Al Khor blanked Al Bidda 3-0.A former Real Madrid player, Rodrigo Moreno struck in the 23rd, 67th and 86th minutes of the match, while Gabriel Pereira scored one in the 49th minute for Al Rayyan.Qatar SC’s only goal came from Said Brahimi in the 41st minute.Rodrigo made a sprint to beat a defender and the goalkeeper for his first strike and later slammed in from the left for his second goal. Towards the end, Rodrigo scored off a Pereira pass to complete his hat-trick.Earlier, Pereira lobbed in a ball in front of the goal which hit the left post before going in, after being provided an assist by Rodrigo.For Qatar SC, Brahimi latched on to a good chance right in front of the goal by smartly flicking the ball into the net.Al Shamal lost 1-3 to Umm Salal at Stadium 974. Al Shamal's captain Mohammed Musa mistakenly turned the ball into his own net in the 20th minute for Umm Salal’s opening goal.Al Shamal were reduced to ten-man in the 63rd minute after a red card offence which Umm Salal took advantage of to increase their lead in the 69th minute through Abulrahmman Fayez Al Rashidi, assisted by Rami Suhail Ali.Al Shamal pulled one back on the stroke of regulation time through Omar Ali, but Khaled Mansour restored Umm Salal's two-goal lead in three minutes of added time to extinguish any hopes of a comeback for Al Shamal.A Youssef Snana brace saw Al Sailiya score a 2-1 win over Al Shahania at the Al Shamal Stadium. Snana scored in the 16th and 39th minutes of the opening half.Al Shahania tried to make a comeback in the second session of the match but were successful in scoring only one goal in the 64th minute through Ali Al Muhannadi.Both sides showed more intensity in the added six minutes of injury time but the scoreline remained 2-1 in Al Sailiya’s favour.Al Khor showed sensational form as they defeated Al Bidda 3-0 at the Al Khor Stadium.In an almost one-sided clash, Al Khor went two goals up in the first 15 minutes, with the first being scored by Ali Awad in the 5th minute before Mekki MohsenTombar added the second in the 12th.Despite their several attempts, they could not, however, increase their tally until the 58th minute, when their captain, Sofiane Hanni, added the third.

Al Arabi register 3-1 win over Al Wakrah

Al Arabi opened their 2025-2026 QSL Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over Al Wakrah in the first round at Al Shamal Stadium Tuesday while Al Ahli and Al Duhail played out a goalless draw at the Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium.Al Arabi found the net through U-23 player Salem Reda in the 8th minute, Pablo Sarabia in the 41st, and Marwan Sherif in the 50th minute. Al Wakrah’s lone goal came from substitute Redouane Berkane in the 81st minute.Al Ahli and Al Duhail battled hard but weren’t able to break the deadlock, eventually settling for the stalemate.In the opening half, Al Ahli were a bit more forceful and even had a few chances but were not able to convert any.The second session saw Al Duhail push harder but luck eluded them as in the 54th minute an Adil Boulbina kick went on to hit the crossbar.The match was also marked by some rough tackles with Al Ahli picking up 4 yellow cards and Al Duhail 2.Today, four matches will be played, with Al Khor facing Al Bidda SC and Al Shahania taking on Al Sailiya in simultaneous kick-offs. Al Shamal will meet Umm Salal, while Al Rayyan will face Qatar SC in the day’s later fixtures.

Preparations continue for new-format QSL Cup

The Qatar Stars League continues with preparations for the 2025-26 QSL Cup aligning with modern formats used in several continental and international tournaments. This is part of a development plan that includes raising technical standards, increasing the number of matches, enhancing competition and exposure, providing young players with the opportunity to gain experience, and developing competitions for Second Division teams. To clarify all details related to the tournament, the match system, and the levels, the organization held a meeting with the participating clubs (First Division and Second Division) on Monday. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Qatar Stars League: Ahmed Salman al-Adsani, Director of Competitions; Abdullah Saleh al-Sulaiti, Director of Media and Communications; Ahmed Abdullah al-Sayed, Head of Football Operations; and representatives from several clubs and media outlets. The meeting included the following: - An explanation of the tournament system and the draw mechanism. The participating teams (20 teams) will be divided into five levels, each containing four teams. The process of determining the five levels will be based on the final standings of the teams in the First Division and Second Division Leagues for the previous season (2024-2025). A draw will be conducted to determine the matchups. According to the tournament system, during the league stage, each team will play 10 matches over 10 weeks against teams of different levels (two matches from each of the five levels). The tournament will begin on September 1, 2025. A Technical Meeting for the tournament was also held, attended by representatives of the Foundation, the participating clubs, and the Referees Department of the Qatar Football Association. The new conditions and system were reviewed, and it was emphasized that the first and second-placed teams will qualify directly for the quarter-finals. Teams ranked third through fourteenth will also advance to the next stage, with six knock-out matches played, from which six teams will advance to the quarter-finals. The organizational procedures, guidelines for match-day operations, and confirmation of the home and away kits for each team were also discussed.
