The Social and Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM) has signed a funding agreement with the Qatar Football Association (QFA) to support the Qatari Fans Delegation Program, aimed at backing the national team during the FIFA World Cup 2026.Under the agreement, the Fund will provide the necessary financial support to enable the Qatar Football Association to implement a comprehensive plan for transporting the Qatari fans delegation from the State of Qatar to the United States and Canada. The program includes travel arrangements, flight tickets through Qatar Airways, the official carrier, as well as hotel accommodations and local transportation.Secretary General of the Qatar Football Association, Mansoor Mohammed Al Ansari praised the agreement, stating: "We extend our sincere thanks to DAAM for this valuable cooperation and outstanding support in funding the travel arrangements for Qatari fans attending our national team's matches at the FIFA World Cup 2026. We look forward to a safe and successful journey, as well as exceptional support from our fans at this global event. Undoubtedly, this support from the Fund represents a key pillar in the implementation of our operational plans across all aspects, enabling us to deliver an outstanding fan experience for Qatari supporters during the FIFA World Cup 2026."For his part, Director of Programs at DAAM, Hassan Yousef Al Obaidly said: "We are proud to support this initiative, which goes beyond being merely a supporters' trip. It represents a message of loyalty and encouragement for our national team at the world's biggest sporting event. Through this support, we aim to remove all obstacles facing Qatari fans, enabling them to stand firmly behind Al Annabi and contribute to showcasing Qatar's identity on the global stage."The initiative is expected to facilitate the participation of approximately 1,000 individuals, including Qatari supporters, members of the supporters' association, media representatives, and players' families, to support the national team, strengthen media coverage, and create a vibrant atmosphere that will help drive the team toward achieving the best possible results at this global event.This agreement reflects the leading role played by both DAAM and the companies listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange in supporting sports initiatives, in line with the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030. 

The Qatari national team enters the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19, with ambitions of leaving a mark that goes beyond the limits of its historic first debut in the previous edition in 2022.The participation of the Qatari national team (Al Adaam) in the new edition of the World Cup will be its first in history through the qualifiers, after appearing in the previous edition on its home ground and among its fans as the host country, amid hopes of achieving better results than those it recorded in its first participation.The World Cup draw placed the Qatari national team in Group B alongside Switzerland, Canada, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Qatari team will open their campaign against Switzerland on June 13 in San Francisco, USA, then move to Vancouver to meet their Canadian counterparts on June 18, and conclude the first round matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Seattle, USA, on June 24.Qatar's participation in the Doha World Cup did not match the impressive success achieved at the organisational, technical and popular levels, as the team exited early from the first round after losing its three matches against Ecuador by 2-0, Senegal by 3-1, and the Netherlands by 2-0, conceding seven goals and scoring only one goal, scored by striker Mohammed Muntari, included in the squad for a second consecutive World Cup appearance.Qatar endured a challenging World Cup qualifying campaign despite entering the competition following a period of clear continental dominance, crowned by winning the last two AFC Asian Cup titles in 2019 in the UAE and 2023 in Qatar, after comfortably securing qualification for the decisive third phase by topping its second-round group with 16 points from five victories and one draw, their task in the following round proved far from easy, as the team could only finish third in Group A behind Iran and Uzbekistan, which secured the two automatic World Cup berths.Qatar were consequently forced to compete in the fourth phase of Asian qualifying, the playoff round, where they were drawn in Group A, which they hosted in Doha.The team played to a scoreless draw against Oman before defeating the United Arab Emirates 2-1 in its final match to book its place at the World Cup.The Qatar Football Association (QFA) carried out several changes to the coaching staff before appointing Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui ahead of the final two matches of the third qualifying phase, and he subsequently guided Al Adaam to World Cup qualification through the playoffs.Although Lopetegui retained many of the influential players who featured at Qatar 2022, he sought to inject fresh talent into the squad by calling up 12 players who will make their World Cup debuts.The final 26-man roster includes goalkeepers Meshaal Barsham, Mahmoud Abu Nada, Salah Zakaria, Ahmed al Ganehi, Almoez Ali, Akram Afif, Edmilson Junior, Ahmed Fathi, Ahmed Alaa, Tahseen Mohammed, Pedro Miguel, Boualem Khoukhi, Ayoub al Alawi, Al Hashemi al Hussein, Assim Madibo, Sultan al Brake, Hassan al Haydos, Jassem Jaber, Mohammed Manei, Lucas Mendes, Karim Boudiaf, Issa Lai, Abdulaziz Hatem, Yousif Abdurisag, Homam al Amin, and Mohammed Muntari.The Qatari team have undertaken a special pre-World Cup preparation program since mid-May, following the conclusion of the domestic season and continental club competitions.Preparations began with a domestic training camp before the team travelled to Dublin for a second camp, during which they faced Ireland in a friendly on May 28 and suffered a 1-0 defeat.They then entered a third and final pre-World Cup training camp in Los Angeles, USA, which will include a second test against El Salvador on June 6, with a view to attaining full match fitness ahead of the World Cup.Reaching the next round, the round of 32, will be the goal for the Qatari national team to make history by advancing beyond the group stage for the first time in their second appearance, relying on top-class stars led by Akram Afif, the Asian Player of the Year in 2019 and 2023, along with the all-time leading scorer Almoez Ali, one of the most key figures of the achievement of the last two AFC Asian Cup titles, as well as experienced players such as the captain Hassan Al Haydos, Boualem Khoukhi, Karim Boudiaf, Lucas Mendes, and others.

Qatar will continue their preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026 with a friendly against Sudan on Thursday at 6:30pm as part of their ongoing training camp in Doha, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) announced yesterday.The match is a key part of Al Annabi’s build-up to football’s global showpiece, with Qatar’s provisional squad currently training under head coach Julen Lopetegui before departing for North America later this month.Lopetegui recently named a 34-man preliminary squad, blending youth with experience as the two-time Asian champions step up preparations for the World Cup, which will be held across the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.The squad includes 19-year-old Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid, the youngest member of the group, alongside veteran forward Sebastian Soria, 42, while star names Akram Afif, Hassan Al Haydos and fit-again striker Almoez Ali are also among the attacking options.Qatar SC defender Niall Mason joins experienced campaigners Lucas Mendes and Pedro Miguel in defence, while Meshaal Barsham, Mahmoud Abunada, Salah Zakaria and Shehab Ellethy make up the goalkeeping department.Qatar will intensify preparations with further warm-up matches against the Republic of Ireland on May 28 and El Salvador in Los Angeles on June 6 before opening their World Cup campaign against Switzerland on June 13. Lopetegui has stressed the importance of reaching the tournament in peak physical and mental condition.

As part of its efforts to make football truly global and enable more clubs, leagues and players from all around the world to compete at the highest level, FIFA has renewed its partnership with the Qatar Stars League (QSL) and the Qatar Football Association (QFA).FIFA President Gianni Infantino has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jassim bin Rashid al-Buainain, President of the QSL and QFA, to continue their drive to raise standards of professional club management and administration across all first- and second-division clubs in the QSL.Infantino said: “I was delighted to sign a renewed Memorandum of Understanding with the Qatar Stars League and the Qatar Football Association, further strengthening a strategic partnership that continues to raise professional standards in club football. My sincere thanks to Jassim bin Rashid al-Buainain and his teams for their outstanding support, organisation and hosting of major FIFA events this year, including the FIFA Arab Cup, the FIFA Intercontinental Cup and, most recently, the FIFA Under-17 World Cup.”The FIFA President continued: “Through education programmes, knowledge exchange and enhanced support for player well-being, we are working together to help talented individuals and ambitious clubs thrive in a more competitive and sustainable global football ecosystem.”Qatar’s leadership in hosting major tournaments and its commitment to innovation continue to make it a key contributor to the golden new era of global club football. Al-Buainain said: “We are pleased with the extension of the agreement between FIFA and the Qatar Stars League, as it represents an important step that reflects the strength of cooperation between both sides. This partnership covers several areas, including the strategic development of football across its technical and administrative aspects, as well as leveraging the region’s passion for the game to promote peace and highlight the noble values of football worldwide.”The next stage of the collaboration between FIFA, the QFA and the QSL will focus on the Educational Programmes Project. Through this agreement, FIFA will provide bespoke support in a wide range of fields, including exchange and educational programmes for club managers and agents, as well as mental health and overall well-being support systems for players. These will focus not only on theoretical aspects, but also on their application from a practical perspective.The signing, which extends an MoU first signed in 2022, took place on Qatar National Day at the Lusail Stadium ahead of the final of the FIFA Arab Cup between Jordan and Morocco. It also marked three years to the day since Argentina won their third FIFA World Cup title after their enthralling win over France in the final of the 2022 tournament at the same venue.The QFA has consistently driven the growth and popularity of football in the region, from the establishment of the QSL to the successful hosting of major tournaments, including the 2011 and 2023 editions of the AFC Asian Cup and the FIFA World Cup 2022. As well as hosting the FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the FIFA Arab Cup in December 2025, Qatar also hosted the expanded FIFA U-17 World Cup in November 2025 with 48 teams, and it will also stage the next four editions of the annual tournament.

The Qatar Football Association (QFA) has announced the schedule for the preliminary round of the Amir Cup, with the matches taking place on January 10 across four venues.The preliminary stage will be played in a knockout format, with four teams advancing to the Round of 16. Al Sailiya will face Al Muaither at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Al Markhiya will take on Muaither at Thani bin Jassim Stadium, Al Kharaitiyat will meet Al Bidda at Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium, while Al Waab will play Lusail at the same venue.All matches will be decided on a knockout basis. In the event of a draw at the end of regulation time, teams will contest 30 minutes of extra time, split into two 15-minute halves. If the tie remains unresolved, the winner will be determined by a penalty shootout.Amir Cup is one of the oldest and most prestigious tournaments in Qatar football, which continues to attract strong interest from the sporting community and fans ahead of the latter stages of the competition.The match-ups are based on the final standings of the Second Division at the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season, with the first-placed team facing the eighth, the second playing the seventh, the third meeting the sixth, and the fourth taking on the fifth. The format was confirmed following the completion of the 14th and final round of the Second Division league.Al Sailiya finished top of the standings with 28 points, followed by Al Markhiya (25), Al Kharaitiyat (23), Al Waab (19), Lusail (18), Al Bidda (15), Muaither (12) and Al Muaither, who placed eighth with 11 points. 

Director of the Development Department at the Qatar Football Association (QFA), Fahad Thani Al Zarraa praised the Qatari national team's achievement after qualifying for the 2026 World Cup finals, following its victory over the UAE in the third round of Group A of the Asian qualifiers. In remarks today, he said that reaching the finals of the upcoming World Cup confirms that Qatari football is on the right track, and that what was achieved was not a coincidence. He added that this achievement was the result of meticulous work and planning by the system as a whole, adding that it culminates in the tireless efforts of those responsible for Qatari football, ensuring its continued advancement and brilliance. Al Zarraa pointed out that participating in the World Cup finals for the second consecutive time confirms that we have a comprehensive sports project, led efficiently by the Qatar Football Association, with the support of our wise leadership, which has provided all means of success for all members of the sports system in Qatar. He explained that the QFA's Development Department is committed to achieving its desired goals, providing an environment conducive to achieving them. The most important of these is the graduation of successive batches of high-caliber players, who will be important contributors to the national teams and the club first teams, through ongoing coordination with the various departments of the Association and the Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence. He added that the Qatar Football Association provides the necessary financial support to implement the development strategy developed and implemented by the Development Department, noting that what was achieved against the UAE national team is not just a sporting victory, but rather a new historic moment added to the record of achievements of Qatari football. The Director of the Development Department concluded by emphasizing the importance of continuing to provide opportunities for talent and studying the path to player development to reach professional levels. He also emphasized the need to focus on honing coaches through various training courses, noting that the Qatar Football Association is one of the most advanced Asian federations in the field of coach development.
