South Africa's Lhuan-dre Pretorius struck his maiden Twenty20 International ton with 101 from 53 balls as the tourists broke their Namibia jinx to win by 11 runs in their Tri-Series clash in Windhoek on Friday and book a final place against Zimbabwe.Namibia had won their previous two T20 clashes with their neighbours, both against depleted South Africa teams, but this time came unstuck as the visitors posted 228 for four.Namibia were in the contest for much of their innings but ran out of steam towards the back end as they reached 217 for three in their allotted 20 overs.South Africa were sent in to bat and a 156-run opening stand from 69 deliveries between Pretorius and Connor Esterhuizen (88 from 40 balls) set them up for a massive total.Both batters hit eight sixes on the flat wicket as they tore into the home bowling attack, with spinner Jan Balt (2-31 in four overs) the only one to come through relatively unscathed.Namibia also had a fantastic start as Jan Frylinck (72 from 36 balls) and Louren Steenkamp (61 from 44 balls) put on 119 in 65 balls for the first wicket, but fell just short.They were not helped by Steenkamp retiring hurt at the end of the 16th over after he took a blow to the head and then the arm in separate incidents.South Africa will play Zimbabwe in the series final at the same venue on Sunday.BRIEF SCORESSouth Africa 228 for 4 (Pretorius 101, Esterhuizen 88, Balt 2-31) beat Namibia 217 for 3 (Frylinck 72, Steenkamp 61, Mokoena 2-43) by 11 runs 

QatarEnergy announced an oil discovery with encouraging results from the Merlin-1X exploration well in the Petroleum Exploration Licence 39 (PEL 0039), offshore Namibia.Merlin-1X is the tenth well drilled under the licence, delivering the most promising subsurface results to date, with good reservoir quality, light oil, and limited associated gas.Commenting on the discovery, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs His Excellency Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, who is also the president and CEO of QatarEnergy, said: “We are pleased with this discovery, which follows three earlier discovery announcements in Namibia. These results represent a significant step that further strengthens confidence in the Orange Basin as an emerging world-class hydrocarbon province and aligns with QatarEnergy’s strategy to expand its international upstream portfolio through high-impact exploration.”Al-Kaabi added: “We extend our appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Namibia for its continued support of this exploration effort, and we congratulate our partners, Shell, and the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia, on this achievement.”QatarEnergy holds interests in four offshore exploration licenses in Namibia: PEL 0039 (45%), PEL 0056 (35.25%), PEL 0091 (33.03%), and PEL 0090 (27.5%) – collectively covering approximately 34,000sq km. 

Pakistan became the final team to qualify for the Super Eight of the Twenty20 World Cup after Sahibzada Farhan’s maiden international century powered them to a ‌thumping 102-run victory over Namibia in Colombo Wednesday. Farhan ​remained unbeaten on exactly ‌100 off 58 balls, reaching his landmark in the ‌final over as Pakistan posted ‌199 in their must-win Group A ‌encounter at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground. Despite a slow start, the opener’s explosive knock featured 11 boundaries and four sixes, with skipper Salman Agha contributing a useful 38 and Shadab Khan adding an unbeaten 36 that included two sixes in the final over of the innings. “Early on the wicket wasn’t that easy to bat on, I told (opener) Saim (Ayub) we’ll take some time (to settle in) ​and I was confident that with time we could set a target,” said Farhan, who was named the player of the match. “The partnership with Shadab ‌was important. The idea was to build ​a partnership and once the partnership gets going, I ​would take charge and Shadab can hit as well.” Namibia’s chase never gained momentum despite a promising start from opener Louren Steenkamp, who raced to 23 before the African side began losing wickets at regular intervals. Shadab (3-19) proved instrumental with the ball as well, dismissing skipper Gerhard Erasmus before having Alexander Busing-Volschenk stumped for 20 when the middle-order batter charged down the pitch as the required run rate mounted. Spinner ‌Usman Tariq cleaned up the ‌tail and finished with career-best figures of 4-16 as Namibia were dismissed for 97, ending their World Cup campaign without a win to finish bottom of the group. Pakistan skipper Salman Agha was beaming when he described the win as a “complete performance”. “We started really well and in the middle, we put partnerships on and then finished well,” he said after the match. “Sahibzada has been outstanding, the way he’s been batting ​for us for the last six months. He scored a hundred today and I’m very happy for him. “When it comes to bowling, we were lethal and we were ruthless. We bowled in the right areas.” All teams in the Super Eight have also secured automatic qualification for the next edition of the tournament in Australia and New Zealand in 2028. T20 WORLD CUP SUPER EIGHT TEAMSGroup A: India, PakistanGroup ‌B: Sri Lanka, ​ZimbabweGroup C: West Indies, EnglandGroup D: South Africa, New Zealand BRIEF SCORESPakistan 199 for 3 (Farhan 100*, Agha 38, Brassell 2-38) beat Namibia 97 (Steenkamp 23, Tariq 4-16, Shadab 3-19) by 102 runs 

Bas de Leede smashed an unbeaten 72 to power the Netherlands to a seven-wicket victory against ‌Namibia in a Group A match ‌of the Twenty20 ‍World Cup yesterday. De Leede struck four sixes and five fours in a 48-ball gem as the Dutch reeled in a 157-run ‍target with two overs to spare for their first win of the tournament. They had pushed former champions Pakistan to the brink before losing in the final over in Colombo on Saturday. “I think we were lucky to bowl first,” ‌player of the match de Leede said. “It gave us a good look at the wicket, and I thought ‍we adjusted really well as a ‌bowling group. “Later in the game, I felt the pitch started skidding on a bit – so credit to the batters for adapting to that as well.” Captain Scott Edwards chose to field and rotated eight bowlers, but Namibia still mustered a competitive 156-8 after a stuttering start.Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton (42) anchored, with Jan Frylinck (30) and JJ Smit (22) adding useful runs. ​Skipper Gerhard Erasmus (18) hit ‌two fours and a six before falling as he looked to launch a ‍counterattack. Max O’Dowd fell cheaply after the Dutch side began their chase and Michael Levitt (28) could not convert his start either, but a let-off for Colin Ackermann proved costly for Namibia. Ackermann went on to ​make 32 in his match-defining 70-run stand with de Leede to put the Netherlands on course to victory.De Leede hit Loftie-Eaton for a six to bring his team near the target before sealing victory with a four. Namibia will face a sterner test when they face defending champions India at the same venue tomorrow. BRIEF SCORES Netherlands 159 for 3 (De Leede 72*, Ackermann 32, Scholtz 1-27) beat Namibia 156 for 8 (Loftie-Eaton 42, Frylinck 30, van Beek 2-13, de Leede 2-20) by seven wickets

Namibia President Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah received His Excellency the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi in the country's capital Windhoek Thursday.Discussions during the meeting dealt with energy relations and co-operation between Qatar and Namibia and means to enhance them.
