Pace bowler Nahid Rana claimed five wickets as Bangladesh trumped Pakistan by 104 runs in a rain-hit first Test Tuesday after a thrilling fifth day of batting collapses.Chasing 268 for victory in Dhaka, Pakistan were 119-3 before they fell to 163 all out in the final session with debutant Abdullah Fazal scoring a valiant 66.Bangladesh now hold a 1-0 lead in the two-match home series.The Test win was Bangladesh's first against Pakistan on home soil and their third overall.The 23-year-old Fazal put on 51 runs with Salman Agha, who made 26, to raise Pakistan's hopes of victory before Rana rattled the opposition with career-best figures of 5-40.Rana, 23, made an impact with his pace and reverse swing and his final spell of 4.5 overs got him four wickets for just 10 runs to turn the match on its head."Very happy - proud of all the guys, the way we played," Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said."We have been working hard the last few months and slowly we are getting better at Test cricket - that's one thing we have always wanted to do."The victory also saw Shanto equal Mushfiqur Rahim's record of seven Test wins as Bangladesh captain, achieving the milestone in just 17 matches compared to Mushfiqur's 34.Shanto's batting brillianceBangladesh came into the final day with a lead of 179 runs at 152-3 but a clutch of wickets made them falter despite Shanto's 87.Bangladesh declared their second innings on 240-9 to hand Pakistan a competitive target and a chance for their bowlers to make use of the deteriorating pitch.Taskin Ahmed took down opener Imam-ul-Haq for two and Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled debutant and first-innings centurion Azan Awais for 15.Rana removed Pakistan captain Shan Masood for two before Fazal and Agha counter-attacked in their fourth-wicket partnership, but Bangladesh bowlers proved their mettle on home turf to secure victory in the final session of the day.Rana delivered the decisive blows. He had Saud Shakeel caught behind before producing the ball of the match -- a thunderous 147 kmph (91.3 mph) in-swinging yorker that bowled Mohammad Rizwan for 15.Rana was on a roll as he trapped Noman Ali lbw and then bounced out Shaheen Shah Afridi, with Mahmudul Hasan Joy taking a simple catch to complete a famous victory.Pakistan captain Masood proffered no excuses for his side's failure to seize the key moments in the match."In the first innings, with bat and ball, we needed to do better," he said. "When you have the game in your hands you have to push the opposition away, but we failed to do that."Shanto stood out for his batting brilliance as he made 101 in the first innings to guide Bangladesh to 413.Pakistan responded with 386 in their first innings but conceded a slender lead after off-spinner Mehidy returned figures of 5-102.Rain played spoilsport on the third and fourth days of the Test with a few overs lost due to interruptions.The second match will begin on Saturday in Sylhet.BRIEF SCORES: Bangladesh 413 and 240 for 9 dec (Shanto 87, Mominul 56, Hasan 3-52) beat Pakistan 386 and 163 (Fazal 66, Salman 26, Rana 5-40) by 104 runs. 

Pace sensation Nahid Rana took 5-32 to lead Bangladesh to a comfortable six-wicket win over New Zealand in the second one-day international and level the three-match series at 1-1 Monday. Rana registered his second five-wicket ODI haul as Bangladesh bundled out New Zealand for 198, a total they overhauled with 14.3 overs to spare in Dhaka. Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who top-scored with 76, and Najmul Hossain Shanto, retired hurt on 50, steered the hosts to 199-4 in 35.3 overs, setting up a series decider on Thursday in Chattogram. Bangladesh suffered early blows with opener Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar out for eight apiece, but Tanzid hit back with an aggressive counter-attack that hauled the hosts to 67 in 10 overs. Tanzid found an able ally in Shanto and the left-handed pair put on 120 runs for the third-wicket stand to put the chase firmly in Bangladesh’s control. Left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox briefly threatened to spark a collapse, dismissing Tanzid and Litton Das in quick succession - both falling while attempting to clear the boundary. Tanzid struck 10 fours and four sixes in his 58-ball knock. Litton made seven. Shanto kept his calm as he raised his fifty off 71 balls, but was forced to retire due to severe cramp. Towhid Hridoy, unbeaten on 30, and skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz, not out on eight, saw Bangladesh home without further trouble. Earlier, the 23-year-old Rana set up the win during New Zealand’s innings after he operated across four separate spells and struck in the first over of each new burst. Left-arm quick Shoriful Islam provided strong support, returning 2-32 from his 10 overs, including the wicket of Nick Kelly (83). Fast bowlers Soumya and Taskin Ahmed took one wicket each, as did leg-spinner Rishad Hossain. New Zealand’s innings was held together almost single-handedly by opener Kelly, who made 83 for his maiden ODI half-century. No other visiting batter reached 20, with Muhammad Abbas the next highest scorer, on 19. Shoriful set the platform early, delivering an incisive opening spell of six overs for just 17 runs, generating 29 dot balls to put the tourists on the back foot. Rana tightened the stranglehold, collecting two wickets in his opening five-over spell. BRIEF SCORESBangladesh 199 for 4 (Tanzid 76, Shanto 50, Lennox 2-36) beat New Zealand 198 (Kelly 83, Rana 5-32 Shoriful 2-32) by six wickets 

Bangladesh pace sensation Nahid Rana claimed his first five-wicket haul in one-day internationals to lead his team to a crushing eight-wicket win over Pakistan in their opening match Wednesday. Rana returned figures of 5-24 to skittle out Pakistan for 114, a total Bangladesh overhauled in 15.1 overs of the 50-over contest in Mirpur to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Opener Tanzid Hasan hammered an unbeaten 67 off 42 balls and put on a second-wicket partnership of 82 with Najmul Hossain Shanto, who made 27, in a statement win. Saif Hassan fell early for four, while Litton Das remained unbeaten on three with Tanzid. “It’s a pretty disappointing batting performance,” Pakistan coach Mike Hesson said after the game. “I don’t think there’s any shying away from that. It wasn’t just the youngsters, we were exposed against some good bowling and we went into our shell a little bit, and we have to turn things around really quickly,” he added. “The wicket was fine,” he said. “It played pretty well. Nahid Rana was exceptional. Until he came into the game, we were ticking along okay, and he changed the game. He bowled into the wicket, created some variation and bounce, which he’s allowed to do when he’s bowling at that pace. And we didn’t respond as well as we needed to. So all credit to him.” Earlier, Nahid laid the platform for victory with his outstanding spell in his seven overs to bowl out Pakistan for their lowest ODI total against Bangladesh, eclipsing the previous 161 during the 1999 World Cup. The 23-year-old Nahid ripped through Pakistan’s top order, becoming the first Bangladeshi bowler to dismiss the opposition’s top five batters in an ODI innings. Nahid removed Sahibzada Farhan (27), Shamyl Hussain (4), Maaz Sadaqat (18), Mohammad Rizwan (10) and Salman Agha (5) as Pakistan slumped to 69-5. He was ably supported by captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who took 3-29 with his off-spin. Senior quicks Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman took one wicket each. Number eight Faheem Ashraf offered brief resistance with his 37 before being dismissed by Mustafizur as Pakistan were eventually bowled out in 30.4 overs. The performance marked a breakthrough in Nahid’s young ODI career since his debut in 2024. He had taken only five wickets in his first five matches before producing the five-wicket haul in his sixth appearance. Nahid is now only the second Bangladeshi bowler to take a five-wicket haul against Pakistan in ODIs after Mustafizur’s 5-75 during the 2019 World Cup. BRIEF SCORESBangladesh 115 for 2 (Tanzid 67*) beat Pakistan 114 (Faheem 37, Farhan 27, Rana 5-24, Mehidy 3-29) by eight wickets
