The State of Qatar participated in the third meeting of the Permanent Committee for Follow-up on the Implementation of the GCC Anti-Drug Strategy (2025-2028), which was held Thursday at the GCC General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh.The Ministry of Interior delegation was headed by Assistant Director of the Strategic Planning Department Colonel Faisal Jassim Al Sulaiti.The meeting discussed a number of items on its agenda and adopted the appropriate recommendations regarding them.QNA 1211 GMT 2026/06/25

People travelling to Qatar with cash or items worth more than QR 50,000 are advised to declare it at the Customs office at the airport, an official from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has stressed.“If you carry cash or other items which are worth more than QR 50,000, the same may be declared at the Customs Disclosure Office under the General Authority of Customs,” said Capt Abdullah Shaheen Muhammed al-Rumaihi, officer at Airport Security Department.Capt al-Rumaihi was speaking at a webinar recently organised by MoI to raise awareness on various aspects of safe travel to enhance general awareness among the community as the holiday season has started. Another aspect that Capt al-Rumaihi highlighted during the webinar was the common mistake by passengers in carrying liquid in bottles to the airport.“Travellers are not allowed to carry along with them liquid in bottles in excess of 100ml. However, they can carry one litre of liquid provided that the capacity of each bottle does not exceed 100ml. They should place all the 100ml bottles in one transparent plastic bag that is easy to open and close,” suggested Capt al-Rumaihi.The official advised the travellers not make any controversial remarks in jest while checking in the luggage or during the immigration check. “Airlines officials may ask the travellers certain clarifications. The officials could ask the travellers if they possess any prohibited items or explosives. If you answer them jokingly in the affirmative, it can land you in trouble. So when people are at the airline counter at the airport, they should take all the routine questions of the airline staff very seriously and answer them accordingly.”He said that even if jokingly admitting to such factors can lead to the cancellation of the travel and the person may be taken to the competent authorities. “The security procedures and requirements at the airport are not set to tire out and delay the travelers. They are set in order to ensure the safety and security of them. So people always have to cooperate with the officials and make the right decisions and responses during the entire travel procedure,” Capt al-Rumaihi pointed out.“We take all necessary measures against violators by referring them to the competent authorities. In implementing our security plan and procedures, we rely on a highly trained staff to deal efficiently with threats and problems,” he stressed.He also noted that before the travel, it is important to ensure that all the documents and flight reservations are ready. “Passengers should arrange their bags themselves and be fully aware of the contents inside it. Do not carry the belongings and bags of others without the knowledge of its contents because many people may exploit their friends to smuggle prohibited items,” added Capt al-Rumaihi. 

One should leave the country within 14 days from the date of the residency permit cancellation, an official from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) stated on Monday. “Earlier it was 30 days, but currently it is two weeks,” said Captain Ali Ahmed Ali al-Kuwari from the MoI’s Airport Passport Department. “Those who stay after two weeks will have to pay a fine of QR10 per day.” He was addressing a webinar organised by the MoI’s Public Relations Department on the topic of “Safe Travels”, providing travel tips and the necessary procedures to follow before travelling out of Qatar. The official noted that people on a visit visa should verify the sticker affixed to their passport and follow the dates accordingly.“People who are on a visit visa to the country have to make sure of the duration of the stay in the country from the sticker fixed with the stamp in the passport,” Capt al-Kuwari said. “There is a fine of QR200 per day in case of overstay. This is a very important point as many people fail to notice the exact number of days allowed for the stay in the country.” He asked the public to check the Metrash app before they embark on any travel. “If you have any kind of traffic violations, overstay fine or any other dues, you can pay that electronically through Metrash and complete all the procedures before heading to the airport,” Capt al-Kuwari said. “In case you have any travel ban, you have to follow up with the concerned department to take out the travel ban to travel to your destination.” He also advised everyone to make use of the electronic gate (e-gate) facility to complete the immigration procedures, as it saves time and avoids long queues at the immigration counters. “The Airport Passports Department operates 76 electronic gates distributed through the passenger terminals at arrivals and departures,” Capt al-Kuwari said. “This is one of the vital services provided by the Airport Passports Department free of charge to all citizens, residents, and visitors. The objective of this service is to save time and effort and avoid waiting in front of the immigration counters inside the airport.” “It takes just about 10-15 seconds to complete the formalities through the e-gates,” he added. “When you are going to the passport counters or e-gates, follow the floor markings that regulate the entry process of travelers,” the official continued. “There are markings on the floor for the proper standing on the area. If you are following those markings, then the process will be finished easily and quickly.” Capt al-Kuwari noted that people can use the Metrash app if they need to transfer the residency permit to a new passport.For a newborn baby, the resident must visit the passport office to report the birth and obtain the newborn’s visa through the approved procedures. “A newborn in the country should obtain a residence permit on the sponsorship of the father after obtaining necessary document from the person’s embassy,” the official said. “In case a residence permit is not obtained, the newborn cannot re-enter Qatar.”

The Ministry of Interior has announced the termination of the temporary extension decision for all types of entry visas that have expired or are nearing expiration, effective from Sunday, 7 June 2026. Starting from the announced date, all entry visas will resume under the approved regulations, including the specified validity periods and applicable fees for each visa category. The Ministry also urged residents, visitors, and all concerned parties to verify their legal status, renew visas within the prescribed timelines, settle the required fees, or leave the country before visa expiry to avoid any legal violations.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced that the General Directorate of Passports' Search and Follow-up Department enabled a service to pay financial claims electronically via the MoI's website and the Metrash App.In a post on its X account, the Ministry said Saturday that the service allows users to pay fees and fines, as well as travel ticket costs with ease.It added that this can be done by going onto the "Security" window, clicking on "Financial Claims", choosing between the "Personal" and "Establishment" options, selecting the due payment (fee, fine, ticket), clicking on "Records", and paying the required amount directly.In a separate post, the MoI indicated the requirements and conditions for obtaining a driving licence in accordance with the procedures approved by the General Directorate of Traffic.The ministry pointed out that the basic requirements include: Proof of Identity, Personal Photo, passing the Medical Examination, and presenting a valid Residence Permit for residents.A minimum age of 18 years old is required to obtain a light vehicle driving license and a minimum age of 21 years old to obtain other types of vehicle driving license, it added.The ministry highlighted the need to enroll in an accredited driving school and pass both the theoretical and practical tests.Upon passing the tests, the driving license can be printed via Metrash, the MoI website, and via Traffic Offices at Driving schools, the MoI said. 

The Ministry of Interior has warned against playing or circulating audio or video clips that mimic the National Emergency Alert System, including using such tones as mobile ringtones in public or private settings, citing risks of causing panic and disturbing public order.In a statement posted on its official account on X, the ministry stressed the importance of public responsibility and adherence to regulations, noting that misuse of emergency alert tones constitutes a legal offense subject to accountability. Authorities also urged the public to report violations by calling 999.  

The Ministry of Interior (MoI), in a series of social media posts, has highlighted the co-operation of family members and their adherence to instructions issued by the relevant authorities to protect everyone and to face emergencies.An MoI statement said: "The co-operation of family members and their adherence to the directives issued by the relevant authorities help protect everyone and enhance the community’s ability to address the emerging developments with awareness and responsibility."The statement further noted: “During emergencies, the older family members and those with medical conditions require greater care and attention at home. Make sure to check on them regularly.”Meanwhile, MoI has once again emphasised the importance of adhering to traffic rules and public safety measures to protect lives and property and to reinforce the principle of collective responsibility and compliance with safety guidelines.The statement said: “Adhering to traffic regulations and general safety is a civilised behaviour that protects lives and property. It reflects awareness of the principle of social responsibility and the co-operation of the members of society in following safety instructions.”Furthermore, the ministry cautioned motorists that making loud noise from vehicles violates traffic law and disturbs others. “Your commitment to traffic rules and regulations reflects your awareness and helps maintain safety.”It stated that motorists must comply with the instructions and regulations and refrain from making loud noises from vehicles to maintain public peace.The ministry also stressed the importance of adhering to workplace safety guidelines and taking national alerts and warning messages seriously.The statement said that it is important for everyone to adhere to all instructions at their workplace and follow the directions of the workplace security and safety team to enhance everyone's safety, which also reflects institutional discipline in the work environment.MoI and other government entities have been regularly issuing directives and awareness messages to ensure public safety and security since the outbreak of regional tensions. They have time and again advised the public to rely only on official communication channels for the right information. 

The Ministry of Interior has issued safety guidelines for employees at workplaces, outlining a set of instructions and procedures to be followed when responding to precautionary security alerts. This initiative is part of the Ministry's commitment to enhancing public safety and raising awareness of preventive measures within the workplace.The ministry clarified that employees must take national alerts or warnings issued through official channels seriously and immediately comply with their instructions. They should also follow updates only through official sources and refrain from spreading rumours or republishing unreliable information.The ministry emphasised the necessity of adhering to the directives of the relevant authorities and security and safety teams at the workplace, avoiding any individual interpretations.Regarding safe conduct within buildings, the ministry urged employees to remain inside the building upon the issuance of any precautionary alert, maintain calm, and avoid causing alarm. Employees should also avoid going outside or to open areas and stay away from windows, glass facades, and open surfaces.The ministry stressed the importance of staying away from energy sources and flammable materials, and minimising unnecessary movement between floors or buildings.Regarding evacuation of facilities, the ministry recommended familiarising oneself with emergency exits, evacuation routes, and designated assembly points within the workplace. It also advised against using elevators when an evacuation alert or instruction is given, recommending instead the use of stairs and emergency exits.The ministry emphasised the need to avoid pushing or crowding while moving to safe areas within the building and to keep corridors and emergency exits clear of obstructions to ensure rapid evacuation when necessary.The guidelines also included instructions to follow in the event of an explosion or sudden incident. The ministry explained that if a person is outside the building when an explosion occurs, they should immediately go to the nearest safe area within the building and remain there after hearing the explosion or alert until instructions are issued by the relevant authorities that the danger has passed.Regarding the handling of suspicious objects and hazards, the Ministry emphasised the necessity of immediately reporting any suspicious object or unusual observation through the designated channels within the organisation or by contacting the relevant authorities. It stressed the prohibition of touching or approaching any metallic object, shrapnel fragments, or unidentified objects.The ministry also emphasised the importance of organisational discipline within the workplace, stressing the need to refrain from photographing incidents, sites, or security procedures and posting them on social media. Furthermore, it highlighted the importance of knowing emergency numbers and how to contact designated security and safety supervisors within the organisation, as well as the necessity of fully cooperating with security and safety officials and adhering to their instructions under all circumstances.The ministry indicated that the security and safety departments in governmental, semi-governmental, and private entities are responsible for disseminating these guidelines to employees and monitoring their implementation. They are also tasked with ensuring the readiness of emergency exits, evacuation routes, assembly points, and response mechanisms for precautionary alerts.The ministry confirmed that it will take the necessary legal measures against anyone who violates these guidelines, in accordance with applicable regulations. It also encouraged the public to contact them with any inquiries or comments regarding safety guidelines via the numbers: 2355585 and 2355633.

The Ministry of Interior has extended all categories of entry visas that have expired or are nearing expiration for a period of one month, subject to further extension in line with developments, effective Saturday, February 28, 2026.In a statement issued Tuesday, the ministry confirmed that the extension will be processed automatically through the approved electronic systems, with exemption from fees, and without the need to visit the relevant departments or submit additional applications.Regarding entry visas of all types that incurred violations prior to February 28, the Ministry clarified that the concerned individuals must first settle the prescribed reconciliation fine for the period of overstay. Thereafter, the extension and fee exemption shall apply to them effective from the aforementioned date.The ministry continues to monitor developments and take necessary measures as needed to ensure the stability of the legal status of residents and visitors.
