New mothers who deliver at Sidra Medicine can now receive follow-up care from a midwife at home, under a private service launched by the hospital. The Women’s Private Home Visits: Midwifery Care programme sends experienced midwives to the homes of eligible mothers and their newborns in the weeks after birth — the period when problems most often surface and when families are usually left to manage on their own. Visits cover the mother’s recovery, help with breastfeeding, practical newborn care and emotional well-being. Midwives also watch for early signs of any complications, so that concerns can be picked up before they become serious. Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, said the aim is to spare families repeated trips back to hospital while keeping their care unbroken after discharge. “By extending our midwifery services beyond the hospital, we are helping mothers recover with greater confidence,” said Dr Dina Schnurman, chief nursing officer at Sidra Medicine. “We are also giving families the education, reassurance, and support they need during the early weeks of parenthood.” She said the programme reflects the hospital’s multidisciplinary approach to compassionate, patient-centred care at every stage of the maternity journey. The home visits are delivered by experienced midwives and follow the same evidence-based standards as care given inside the hospital. Prof Johnny Awwad, chair of Women’s Services at Sidra Medicine, said the weeks after delivery matter as much as the birth itself. “Exceptional maternity care extends well beyond childbirth. The postpartum period plays a vital role for both maternal recovery and newborn health,” he said, adding that continued clinical support can significantly improve outcomes for families. He said Sidra Medicine, which describes itself as Qatar’s leading choice for private maternity care and deliveries, remains committed to supporting women before birth, through delivery and during the important weeks that follow. The programme is open to eligible Sidra Medicine patients following a clinical assessment. It is intended for routine postnatal care, and visits are arranged according to clinical need and availability.

Graduates will be equipped to lead change, manage complex organisations, and elevate performance across the sector and beyond.Master of Science in Midwifery (MSc Midwifery) at the College of Health Sciences is designed as Qatar’s first graduate programme in midwifery. It provides an advanced pathway for registered nurses seeking to transition into professional midwifery practice. The programme is competency-based and practice-focused, integrating robust clinical training and high-fidelity simulation to build expertise in maternal, neonatal, and family-centred care.Developed in collaboration with key health-sector partners and aligned with international standards, it directly responds to Qatar’s growing need for highly skilled midwives. Graduates will be prepared to lead innovation, enhance quality of care, and advance women’s health across the national healthcare system.Diploma in Animal Health and Veterinary Science offered at the College of Health Sciences aims to strengthen national capacity in animal health. This applied two-year diploma provides comprehensive training in animal care, disease prevention, diagnostics, and husbandry. This programme was developed in response to national priorities identified by the Ministry of Municipality and graduates will be equipped with the practical and technical skills needed to support veterinary services and public-health protection, contributing directly to Qatar’s One-Health agenda and advancing the country’s long-term animal-health objectives.Dr Salem Al-Naemi, president of UDST, said: “Expanding our academic portfolio with these programmes reflects UDST’s role in anticipating future skills needs and translating national priorities into high-impact educational pathways.
