Elon Musk is seeking up to $134bn from OpenAI and Microsoft, arguing he deserves the "wrongful gains" that ‌they received from his early support of the artificial-intelligence ‌startup, according to a ‍court filing on Friday. OpenAI gained between $65.5bn and $109.4bn from the billionaire entrepreneur's contributions ⁠when he was co-founding OpenAI from ⁠2015, while Microsoft gained between $13.3bn and $25.1bn, Musk said in the ‍federal court filing ahead of his trial against the two companies.OpenAI, Microsoft and Musk's lawyers did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside business hours. OpenAI has called the lawsuit "baseless" and part of a "harassment" campaign by Musk. A Microsoft lawyer has said there is no evidence that the company "aided and ‌abetted" OpenAI.The two companies challenged Musk's damages claims in a separate filing on Friday.Musk, who left OpenAI in 2018 and now runs xAI ‍with its competitor chatbot Grok, ⁠alleges that ChatGPT ‌operator OpenAI violated its founding mission in a high-profile restructuring to a for-profit entity.A judge in Oakland, California, ruled this month that a jury will hear the trial, expected to start in April.Musk's filing says he contributed about $38mn, 60% of OpenAI's early seed funding, helped recruit staff, connect the founders with key contacts and lend credibility to the project when it was created."Just as an early investor in a startup company may realise gains many orders of magnitude greater ​than the investor's initial investment, ‌the wrongful gains that OpenAI and Microsoft have earned - and which Musk is now ⁠entitled to disgorge - are much ‍larger than Musk's initial contributions," Musk argues.The filing says Musk's contributions to OpenAI and Microsoft were calculated by his expert witness, financial economist C Paul Wazzan.Musk may seek punitive damages and other penalties, including a possible injunction, if the jury finds either company liable, the ​filing says, without specifying what form any injunction might take.In their own filing, OpenAI and Microsoft asked the judge to limit what Musk's expert may present to jurors, arguing his analysis should be excluded as "made up," "unverifiable" and "unprecedented" and as seeking an "implausible" transfer of billions from a nonprofit to a former donor-turned-competitor.The companies also disputed Musk's damages figures more broadly, saying the expert's approach is unreliable ⁠and could mislead the jury. 

Global technology giant Microsoft announced Tuesday plans to invest $17.5bn to help build India's artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, with CEO Satya Nadella calling it "our largest investment ever in Asia".Several global corporations have announced large investments this year in the South Asian nation, which is projected to have more than 900mn Internet users by year's end."To support the country's ambitions, Microsoft is committing US$17.5B (bn) — our largest investment ever in Asia — to help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities needed for India's AI first future," Nadella said in a post on X.Nadella made the announcement on social media after he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, thanking the leader for "an inspiring conversation on India's AI opportunity".In a statement, Microsoft said the investment would be spread over four years."Together, Microsoft and India are poised to set new benchmarks and drive the country's leap from digital public infrastructure to AI public infrastructure in the coming decade," the statement said.The tech giant said one of the key priorities of its investment plan was "building secure, sovereign-ready hyperscale infrastructure to enable AI adoption in India"."At the heart of this effort is the significant progress being made at the India South Central cloud region, based in Hyderabad — that is set to go live in mid-2026," Microsoft added.The planned cloud region is twice the size of the iconic Eden Gardens stadium in India's eastern city Kolkata, which has a capacity of over 65,000 people.Microsoft said the latest announcement "builds on" a previous investment pledge Nadella had made earlier this year, committing $3bn for AI and cloud infrastructure in India over the next two years.Modi said he was "happy" that the tech giant had chosen India as the destination for its largest investment in Asia."The youth of India will harness this opportunity to innovate and leverage the power of AI for a better planet," the prime minister said in a post on X."When it comes to AI, the world is optimistic about India," Modi added.Modi Tuesday also met with the heads of tech firms Intel and Cognizant.Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said the company was "committed to support India's semiconductor mission"."We had a wide-ranging discussion on a variety of topics related to technology, computing and the tremendous potential for India," Tan said in a post on X.Cognizant said its CEO Ravi Kumar S met with the prime minister "for an inspiring conversation on accelerating AI adoption and advancing education and skill development to enhance AI capabilities and productivity".Global technology giants are aggressively courting more users in India, the world's most populous country and fifth-largest economy.A special area of focus has been artificial intelligence with US startup Anthropic in October unveiling plans to open an office in India. Its chief executive Dario Amodei has also met Modi.The same month, Google said it will invest $15bn in India over the next five years, as it announced a giant data centre and artificial intelligence base in the country.OpenAI has said it will open an India office, with its chief Sam Altman noting that ChatGPT usage in the country had grown fourfold over the past year.AI firm Perplexity also announced a major partnership in July with Indian telecom giant Airtel, offering the company's 360mn customers a free one-year Perplexity Pro subscription.But India's bid to become a global technology and artificial intelligence hub is colliding with increasingly tightening digital regulations.According to recent media reports, authorities are drafting plans to ensure that manufacturers enable satellite location tracking in smartphones that cannot be turned off by users — a proposal that rights groups have raised the alarm over.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, received Saturday Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, on the occasion of his visit to the country to participate in the Doha Forum 2025, currently underway at the Sheraton Doha Hotel. During the meeting, they reviewed prospects for developing cooperation and discussed a host of topics of mutual interest, particularly those on the forum's agenda.

Microsoft Co-Founder and Chair of the Gates Foundation, Bill Gates emphasized that the strategic partnership between his foundation and the State of Qatar has greatly contributed to supporting programs in health, social development, and global poverty reduction. In his speech at the opening of the Doha Forum Saturday, he stated that Qatar is one of the world's foremost supporters of social development programs, including health and poverty alleviation. He revealed the launch of a new partnership between the Gates Foundation and the Qatar Development Fund aimed at enhancing economic empowerment, particularly supporting farmers, alongside initiatives in education and health. He highlighted Qatar's pivotal role in supporting international efforts to provide vaccines, including its support for the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi) and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, describing this role as an investment reflecting a genuine commitment to the world's most vulnerable populations. Thanks to Qatar's humanitarian efforts, His Excellency noted, the country not only helps resolve conflicts worldwide but also provides resources that benefit humanity. He explained that joint efforts between institutions and donor countries, including Qatar, have helped reduce child mortality from 10 million to about 5 million annually, the fastest improvement rate in human history. He noted that last year, 4.6 million children died, compared with 4.8 million this year, but despite this decline, the numbers remain high, requiring continuous monitoring of gains and innovation in health systems. He stated that building an effective health system in poor countries requires no more than USD 100 per person per year, which could prevent 95 percent of deaths from treatable or preventable diseases. He warned that progress remains fragile, as over 100 million people live in conflict zones, complicating access to healthcare services. He revealed that modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, will provide humanity with a historic opportunity to achieve exceptional health milestones, such as developing vaccines against HIV/AIDS and malaria, eradicating polio as humanity's second disease to eliminate, and creating AI-based tools to improve healthcare delivery and connect patients in deprived countries with doctors remotely in multiple languages. He disclosed that his foundation is developing AI models capable of understanding various world languages and dialects, including those in Africa and Asia, enabling people to consult doctors and specialists remotely in their native languages. He stressed that hope lies in ensuring that the poor benefit from the AI revolution from the outset, instead of repeating past scenarios where developing countries lag decades behind in innovation. He expressed confidence that continued international support will enable the world to reduce child mortality to below 2 percent globally and make significant progress in combating poverty and deadly diseases.He concluded that saving the lives of millions of children worldwide is the most important ethical issue of our time, calling for collective efforts among governments, institutions, and communities to achieve historic progress and reach the desired goals.  

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in co-operation with Microsoft, launched the unified platform, which aims to unify and develop the ministry’s services, enhance operational excellence, empower the private sector, and provide more advanced digital services to consumers and investors.A statement by the MoCI on Tuesday emphasised that the launch of this platform comes within the framework of its efforts to accelerate the transition towards an integrated digital government, benefiting from Microsoft’s global expertise in the fields of cloud computing, artificial intelligence and digital transformation.The statement indicated that the platform was built using Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Dynamics 365 technologies, so that in its first phase, it integrates more than 140 electronic services within a unified digital environment, including licensing, permits and registration services, in preparation for adopting an integrated framework for interactive artificial intelligence that serves the economy and business sector in the country.The unified platform focuses on improving the efficiency of government performance and simplifying procedures, through automating daily operations and updating existing systems, which contributes to raising operational efficiency, reducing maintenance costs and enhancing institutional flexibility.The platform also provides advanced digital tools for ministry employees that support data-driven decision-making, along with continuous 24/7 support via virtual assistants, and customised services that meet the needs of businesses, while adhering to the highest standards of security and privacy.Director of the Information Technology Department at the MoCI Ahmed Ali al-Kuwari said that the launch of the unified platform in co-operation with Microsoft is a pivotal step in the ministry’s journey toward a more advanced and efficient digital government. Through this initiative, MoCI is working to improve the quality of services provided to the consumer and accelerate the pace of innovation, thereby consolidating Qatar’s position as a centre for digital innovation in the region, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy.For his part, General Manager of Microsoft Qatar Ahmed El Dandachi said that Microsoft is committed to the highest standards of privacy and security in supporting the digital transformation journey of the MoCI. The unified platform not only protects confidential data, but also provides a reliable digital environment that fosters business growth. By enhancing trust in digital services, this initiative contributes to opening new horizons for growth and innovation, which supports the Qatari economy and the business environment in general.The unified platform is a key pillar within the digital government strategy to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030, as it provides an integrated digital experience that focuses on the user, and supports efforts to diversify the national economy and promote innovation, thus consolidating the State of Qatar’s regional position in the field of government digital transformation.

Microsoft announced the launch of its first internally developed artificial intelligence models. The first model is named MAI-Voice-1, dedicated to generating natural voices, while the second model, MAI-1-preview, is classified as a foundational text model that was fully developed and trained within the company.According to the company's statement, the MAI-Voice-1 model is distinguished by its ability to generate a full minute of audio in less than one second using only a single graphics processing unit (GPU).The model is already being used in some Copilot services, such as Copilot Daily, which provides a daily audio summary of news, in addition to producing podcast-like discussions to explain topics.Users can also try it via the Copilot Labs platform, with the ability to adjust the tone and delivery style. As for the text model MAI-1-preview, it was trained using approximately 15,000 Nvidia H100 chips and is designed to handle textual instructions and provide useful responses to daily inquiries.Microsoft confirmed that this model offers a glimpse of what it will present in the future within the Copilot ecosystem. The company has already begun testing it through the LMArena platform, which measures the performance of AI models, and it will be gradually integrated into some Copilot services over the coming weeks.This step comes at a time when Copilot services still rely primarily on Open AI technologies. Microsoft believes that combining a set of specialized models that serve diverse needs and uses will provide tremendous value to users and pave the way for a new phase of competition in the global AI race.
