Qatar's health sector is fully primed to handle any emergency that may arise from the current regional situation, with a robust strategic stockpile of medicines and medical supplies sufficient for nine months, the Minister of Public Health has said.Speaking to Qatar Television, His Excellency Mansoor bin Ebrahim al-Mahmoud said the sustained investment and overriding priority given to the health sector by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani had placed the country in a position of strength, with a flexible and highly capable health system ready to respond to any contingency at short notice."The infrastructure of the health sector in the State, in terms of facilities and emergency centres, literally qualifies it for handling any contingency amid the current situation," the minister said.Al Mahmoud confirmed that all hospitals and health facilities across the country are operating around the clock, with dedicated operations chambers monitoring the situation and coordinating work on a 24-hour basis. These command structures are tracking all relevant figures and data, covering hospital readiness, capacity planning, and the ability to absorb contingencies at varying levels of severity.The country's health network comprises 26 hospitals spanning the public, private, and quasi-government sectors, underpinned by what the minister described as a world-class infrastructure built up steadily over the past several years. A workforce of 60,000 health professionals, nurses, and practitioners is currently deployed across these facilities, working with what al-Mahmoud called a high degree of efficiency and professionalism.Routine and essential care services have continued uninterrupted throughout the current crisis, the minister stressed, including dialysis treatment, childhood vaccination programmes, and regular patient consultations at health centres across the country. He also confirmed that blood supply levels are sufficient and above the required threshold.On trauma cases linked to the ongoing crisis, al-Mahmoud said that since the situation began, the injuries treated at medical institutions and health centres have been minor and superficial in nature, with patients discharged on the same day in all but one case. That remaining patient is in a stable condition and is expected to be discharged in the near future, he added.Regarding the strategic medical stockpile, the minister explained that Qatar operates a combined system for medical supplies, with reserves held specifically to supply health institutions when needed. He confirmed the stockpile has not been drawn upon thus far and remains sufficient for nine months. Supply chains are being monitored constantly to ensure that hospitals can continue to import medicines and medical equipment without interruption, and he noted that coordination with fellow GCC states is in place, with no issues reported on that front.Al-Mahmoud urged members of the public to rely solely on official sources for information and news, reiterating that the health sector is fully ready and operating as a key priority of Qatar's leadership. He also highlighted the close coordination between the health sector and other government agencies, including Civil Defence, describing the inter-agency response as highly professional and well-orchestrated.

The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has announced the continuation of its institutional partnership with the Heart Hospital at Hamad Medical Corp under the Nabd Waqf for heart patients, affiliated with the Healthcare Endowment Fund. The initiative aims to strengthen the role of endowments in supporting specialised healthcare for heart patients unable to afford treatment costs. In a statement issued Tuesday, the ministry said the efforts fall within the directorate’s strategy to develop healthcare endowments and expand co-operation with Hamad Medical Corp, reflecting its commitment to building a sustainable institutional endowment model that contributes to safeguarding lives and enhancing the quality of healthcare services in the country. Commenting on the partnership, Eng. Hassan bin Abdullah al-Marzouqi, director-general of the General Directorate of Endowments, said the collaboration, launched in 2021, represents “a practical model of national integration in serving patients.” He noted that since its establishment, the Nabd Waqf has contributed to the treatment of heart patients by providing financial support for critical surgeries, the implantation of advanced medical devices, and covering treatment and hospitalisation costs for eligible cases. He added that the initiative underscores the impact of healthcare endowments as a sustainable instrument for supporting the national medical system, expressing appreciation to donors, whose contributions constitute an ongoing charitable reward. Al-Marzouqi further highlighted that the directorate’s vision is based on investing endowment assets and channelling their returns to vital sectors, foremost among them healthcare, through the Healthcare Endowment Fund, which operates under clear governance standards to ensure equitable distribution and sustainable impact. Dr Abdulwahid al-Mulla, senior consultant and head of the cardiothoracic surgery department at Heart Hospital, Hamad Medical Corp, said the support provided through the Nabd Waqf has become a key pillar of the Patient Care Fund. It has enabled the performance of complex cardiac surgeries and the implantation of high-cost medical devices for patients unable to bear treatment expenses. He noted that the funding has helped cover surgical preparations, medications, medical devices, and hospital stays, ensuring patients receive timely treatment without delay. The support has also assisted many beneficiaries in regaining their ability to work and continue supporting their families both inside and outside Qatar, directly contributing to their social and family stability. The Healthcare Endowment Fund is one of the endowment funds affiliated with the General Directorate of Endowments. It specialises in channelling endowment revenues towards medical and therapeutic services for eligible beneficiaries through strategic partnerships with national healthcare institutions. The Nabd Waqf falls within this framework as a specialised initiative supporting heart patients. It operates under rigorous evaluation mechanisms, in co-ordination with Hamad Medical Corp, to determine funding priorities and ensure resources are directed to the most urgent cases.

More than a dozen former international cricket captains, including India's Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, rallied Tuesday for jailed Pakistan ex-premier Imran Khan, appealing the Islamabad government to give him "adequate" medical treatment.Despite India's fraught relations with Pakistan, including military conflict last year, former India captains Gavaskar and Kapil signed a petition expressing "deep concern" about Khan's treatment and prison conditions.The statement, signed by 14 captains and seen by AFP, demands the proper care of Khan, a former World Cup-winning captain who according to his lawyer has lost most of the vision in his right eye.Khan has been in jail since 2023 and was sentenced late last year along with his wife to 17 years on corruption charges they both deny.His lawyer visited Khan in jail last week and later submitted a report to Pakistan's chief justice and the Supreme Court detailing his concerns and requesting treatment for his client.The statement signed by the former cricket skippers "respectfully" urges Pakistan "to ensure that Imran Khan receives immediate, adequate and ongoing medical attention from qualified specialists of his choosing".The campaign is led by former Australian captain and contemporary of Khan, Greg Chappell."Khan deserves fair and transparent access to legal processes without undue delay or hindrance," the statement said.Other signatories are Michael Atherton, Michael Brearley, Nasser Hussain and David Gower (England), Allan Border, Ian Chappell, Belinda Clark, Steve Waugh and Kim Hughes (Australia), Clive Lloyd (West Indies) and John Wright (New Zealand).Pakistan's Supreme Court has already requested a report on Khan's living conditions in the Adiala jail near Rawalpindi, in connection with a case that has been pending since 2023.Authorities had previously confirmed that Khan underwent a 20-minute medical procedure in January at Islamabad's government hospital but gave no other details."Recent reports concerning his health – particularly the alarming deterioration of his vision while in custody – and the conditions of his imprisonment over the past two and a half years have caused us profound concern," the captains said, calling for "decency and justice".Khan was prime minister from 2018 to 2022 before being removed in a no-confidence vote during a political crisis over tensions between his government and Pakistan's powerful military establishment.He has since faced multiple legal cases on corruption and other charges.Khan and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), maintain that the cases against him are politically motivated.His arrest triggered nationwide protests in May 2023, some of which turned violent and led to hundreds of arrests.The office of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told AFP that it had not yet received the captains' statement.Khan played 88 tests and 175 one-day internationals for Pakistan between 1971-1992 and captained them to their only ODI World Cup victory in 1992.His son Kasim Khan told Reuters that the immediate concern was his father's health but there were other pressing issues including "his freedom, abiding by correct human rights processes and also the rule of law and just ensuring that he's allowed a proper, fair trial". 

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched a specialised medical campaign for Syria, entitled 'Endless Giving', aiming to perform more than 100 specialised cardiac catheterisation procedures for adults and children in Syria.A medical convoy comprised of leading consultants and experts is participating in the campaign, which is part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to support the healthcare sector, provide high-quality treatment services to patients, train local medical personnel, transfer expertise, and enhance hospital preparedness.Another component of the project is capacity-building for local medical professionals, to help reduce mortality rates and complications associated with cardiology and orthopaedics, improve the quality of life for the patients requiring urgent medical interventions, and alleviate the mental and economic burdens on Syrian families, who often cannot afford such expensive procedures or have to travel abroad for treatment.During a tour of several Syrian hospitals, ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Syrian Arab Republic Khalifa bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the campaign was launched in co-operation between the State of Qatar and several healthcare institutions, including Hamad Medical Corporation and Sidra Medicine. A specialised medical team is participating to perform these specialised procedures for adults and children. He noted that the team has already performed more than 60 procedures, and this number is expected to exceed the target. The campaign also includes practical and scientific training programs for Syrian medical staff.Al-Mahmoud emphasised the continuation of such initiatives, reflecting the deep fraternal cooperation between the two countries in the healthcare sector.For his part, Medical Convoys Program Co-ordinator at QRCS, Dr Izzedeen Gaafar, explained to QNA that the programme aims to perform cardiac catheterisation procedures directly for the most urgent cases, particularly complex procedures that were previously impossible to perform within Syria. This includes 50 procedures for children, as well as the diagnosis of hundreds of cases. He added that the programme also includes supporting hospitals with necessary medical equipment and supplies, in addition to training local staff, as part of a broader plan to develop the capabilities of the Syrian health sector. He noted that previous initiatives included providing medical supplies and medications to hospitals.In another statement to QNA, Director General of the National University Hospital in Damascus Dr Abdul Ghani al-Shalabi said that the Qatari initiative provided significant support to patients. The medical team performed an average of six to eight procedures daily, including diagnostic and interventional catheterisations, in addition to emergency cases of heart attacks. He emphasised that the campaign contributed to saving the lives of many patients.Al-Shalabi pointed out that all operations and medical supplies were provided free of charge, which reduced the financial burden on patients, praising the humanitarian role of the State of Qatar in supporting the health sector and enhancing the quality of medical services provided. 

A Palestinian man was martyred on Monday by Israeli gunfire in the Gaza Strip, according to medical sources.The Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) reported that the Israeli occupation forces fatally shot the man in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood, northeast of Gaza City.In a separate incident, a girl was injured by Israeli army fire west of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, WAFA added.Israeli violations have continued since the ceasefire came into effect on October 11, resulting in 484 deaths, 1,321 injuries, and the recovery of 713 bodies.

His Excellency Attorney-General Dr Issa bin Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi ordered the arrest of a plastic and cosmetic surgeon and the director of a medical centre, and their referral to the competent criminal court to face charges related to the offences attributed to them.The Public Prosecution had launched investigations into a case involving the illegal practice of the medical profession without a licence. The first defendant was apprehended by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) for practicing medicine at a private medical centre despite having been suspended from practicing the profession by the competent department at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), pursuant to a decision issued by the Public Prosecution in the interest of the investigation.This followed the prosecution's review of several complaints filed against him over medical errors allegedly committed. The second defendant, who serves as the medical director responsible for managing the centre where the first defendant was working, was also arrested for allowing him to practice medicine at the medical centre despite being fully aware of the suspension.HE the Attorney General ordered that both defendants be remanded in custody and referred to the competent criminal court to be tried and punished in accordance with the provisions of the Law Regulating the Practice of the Medical Profession.
