QU launches smart app to ease campus travel

Qatar University (QU) has become the first university in the country to introduce a dedicated smart mobility app, using artificial intelligence and real-time data to help tackle traffic congestion and make travel to and around its campus more efficient.The new app, Masar by QU, uses AI-powered cameras and sensors to provide real-time information on traffic conditions, campus gates and parking availability, enabling students, staff and visitors to plan journeys and select the most suitable routes.The initiative assumes particular significance as the QU campus receives approximately 200,000 cars every week.Masar also provides congestion alerts and information on university bus routes and schedules, giving users a broader picture of transport options across the campus.QU Vice President for Administration and Financial Affairs Dr Mai al-Naemi said the initiative reflected the university’s approach to enhancing the student experience through knowledge and technology.“Masar reflects our approach to enhancing the student experience through the application of knowledge and technology,” she said.“The app supports the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 to harness technology and innovation to improve quality of life and advance sustainable development. At QU, this means creating a campus where smart solutions make everyday life easier for those who study, work and visit, while helping us make better use of our resources and infrastructure.”QU Associate Vice President for Operations Support and Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Dr Mohammed Elshafie said the university’s approach to improving campus mobility was based on understanding the needs of its community and daily travel patterns.Students played an important role in testing and developing Masar to ensure it responded to those needs, he said.“This launch marks the first phase of the app. We will continue to add new features and develop practical solutions to improve travel around campus,” Dr Elshafie added.The launch builds on a series of mobility improvements already introduced across the campus, including expanded parking facilities, the QU Campus Express, connections to the Doha Metro, student housing shuttles, accessible transport services and air-conditioned waiting areas.QU said it would continue promoting safe and responsible travel across the campus by encouraging its community to plan journeys in advance, use parking and transport services responsibly, observe speed limits, prioritise pedestrian safety and avoid distractions while driving.

RACA launches 'Masar' Programme to enhance charity sector governance

The Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA) Monday launched the "Masar" Programme, designed to monitor the implementation of its 2025-2030 strategy.The launch marks a significant step in the Authority's commitment to advancing effective governance tools, performance measurement mechanisms, and ensuring the efficient and transparent achievement of its strategic objectives.The launch ceremony was attended by Her Excellency Minister of Social Development and Family, and Chairperson of the Board of RACA Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi.On this occasion, she affirmed that the "Masar" Programme serves as a natural extension of the Authority's strategy, reflecting its commitment to shifting from planning to execution within a clearly defined institutional framework that strengthens performance governance and enhances the efficiency of the charitable sector.She explained that the programme introduces a practical vision aimed at promoting sustainability, embedding the values of transparency and effectiveness, and ensuring the precise implementation of the Authority's strategic initiatives. This, she noted, is intended to generate tangible outcomes aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030, while reinforcing a culture of giving, development and supporting charitable work as a fundamental pillar of Qatari society.Director-General of RACA, Ibrahim Abdullah al-Dehaimi emphasised that the launch of "Masar" marks a new phase in the Authority's institutional development. He noted that the programme represents a qualitative shift in monitoring and performance-assessment mechanisms, and reflects the Authority's determination to implement its strategic projects with the highest levels of quality and efficiency. He added that the programme also advances the Authority's digital transformation and enables work teams to track progress continuously, thereby ensuring the expected impact on the advancement of the charitable and humanitarian sector.During the launch, the Authority presented an overview of "Masar," describing it as an integrated platform for measuring progress in implementing strategic initiatives and projects. The system links the Authority's various departments through regular reporting mechanisms that allow decision-makers to follow performance closely and ensure the achievement of desired results and outcomes.The programme aims to establish a data-driven work environment, strengthen transparency, and to enhance the quality of services provided to the charitable sector, in alignment with the country's broader direction toward digital transformation and the adoption of international best practices in regulatory oversight and institutional performance management.Director of the Planning and Quality Department, Ashwaq Abdullah al-Aji delivered an introductory presentation on the programme, outlining its operating mechanisms, key progress indicators, and the periodic reports it generates to support decision-making. She emphasised that "Masar" reinforces a culture of institutional performance built on planning, monitoring, and continuous improvement. It is worth noting that earlier this year, the Authority launched the national Strategy for the Charitable and Humanitarian Work Sector in Qatar (2025-2030), as well as the "Sanadi" platform for co-ordinating domestic assistance-initiatives that underscore its steadfast commitment to enhancing the national system for regulating charitable work, strengthening institutional readiness, and providing more innovative and transparent tools that support the sector's sustainability and solidify its role in achieving comprehensive development.
