* Acosta secures first MotoGP win at Austrian GP after sprint-race crash* Martin comes second to take 12-point lead in world championship* Bezzecchi finishes third; Marquez finishes fifth  Pedro Acosta claimed the first MotoGP victory of his career in the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, bouncing back from his sprint-race crash to beat world championship leader Jorge Martin at KTM's home Red Bull Ring circuit.The 22-year-old Spaniard, who qualified third before crashing out while leading Saturday's sprint, seized the lead from polesitter Martin on lap nine of the 28-lap race and never looked back.Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi completed the podium, while Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura finished fourth.It was an emotional moment for Acosta, nicknamed 'The Shark', who arrived in MotoGP with huge expectations after winning the Moto3 world title in 2021 and the Moto2 crown in 2023."The first one is always special," Acosta said. "Nice way to close a season like this with KTM in front of all Austrian fans. Super happy for them because they deserve it even more than me."Acosta is set to leave KTM at the end of 2026 to join the factory Ducati team. A BRILLIANT STARTMartin, the 2024 MotoGP champion, got off to a brilliant start but was overtaken by teammate Bezzecchi for the lead at Turn One on lap two. The 28-year-old responded immediately, reclaiming top spot at Turn Three on the same lap.However, Acosta's pace proved decisive and he passed Martin for the lead on lap nine before pulling away."I want to congratulate Pedro. He fought a lot during the last few years to get this victory. This feeling is amazing for him, so I'm really happy for him," Martin said of his fellow Spaniard."For myself, I think I did a great race. I was trying to manage the fuel. Then Pedro took me but I thought everything was under control. But step by step, he was stepping away. I tried to push a bit more but my rear tyre was completely destroyed. I did my best."This is what we have to do every weekend for the rest of the season, and the fight is on. So I am really looking forward to continuing like this."Martin now has 306 points in the standings, a 12-point lead over compatriot and reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez ahead of next month's Japanese Grand Prix. Italian Bezzecchi is third with 264 points.Marquez endured a frustrating weekend as Ducati lacked the outright pace of the Aprilias. The seven-time MotoGP champion qualified second but slipped back on the opening lap and eventually finished fifth. 

Jorge Martin pipped MotoGP title rival Marc Marquez to pole for Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix, while Pedro Acosta completed an all-Spanish front row at the Red Bull Ring.Martin secured his third pole of the season, beating Marquez by just 0.015 seconds in a closely fought qualifying session. Acosta qualified third after setting the pace in Friday's practice."I was pushing like hell," Aprilia rider Martin told TNT Sports. "I felt quite OK during the weekend, we did small steps from yesterday to today. We are prepared for the race now."Reigning world champion Marc Marquez has reignited his title challenge by winning five of the last seven races, but admitted rival Jorge Martin had the measure of him in qualifying on Saturday."He was faster. The front row was the main target today," said Ducati star Marquez. Acosta, racing at KTM's home circuit, will be hoping to finally earn the first MotoGP victory of his career. He will leave the Austrian team to join Marquez at Ducati next season.Italian Marco Bezzecchi will start fourth, ahead of Japan's Ai Ogura, while Alex Marquez qualified sixth despite crashing late in the session. Championship rivals Martin and Marquez are level on 274 points at the top of the standings, although Marquez holds the advantage with more race wins.Bezzecchi sits third overall, 33 points adrift of the leading pair.

* Woods entered a no-contest plea after initially pleading not guilty* Judge warned any driving violation would send Woods to jail* Plea deal dropped the more serious DUI charge Tiger Woods will have his license suspended for five years after reaching a plea deal in his impaired-driving case on Wednesday that will allow the decorated golfer to avoid jail time.The 15-times major champion, who initially pleaded not guilty, entered a no-contest motion on all charges and was adjudicated guilty at a change-of-plea hearing he attended at Martin County Courthouse.Judge Darren Steele said two five-year driver's license suspensions will run at the same time, one on a reckless driving charge and one on a careless driving citation."There are no exceptions. If you were to drive for any reason at all, you would go immediately back to jail," Steele told Woods.The 50-year-old Woods, who was also handed about $1,500 in fines as part of the plea deal, has 30 days to appeal the ruling which dropped the more serious offense of driving under the influence.WOODS ATTENDS HEARING WITH GIRLFRIEND VANESSA TRUMPWoods, dressed in a dark suit and tie, arrived at the Martin County Courthouse seated in the front passenger seat of a black SUV and did not answer questions from reporters as he and girlfriend Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., walked in and out of the building for the hearing.State Attorney Thomas Bakkedahl told reporters he was comfortable with the outcome of the case and outlined the prosecution's challenges in proving Woods, who has a documented pharmacological tolerance after multiple back and knee surgeries, was impaired by hydrocodone."Both toxicologists reviewing the information and evidence provided to them were of the opinion that there was insufficient proof," Bakkedahl said. "I don't make the facts; I accept them as they are brought to me of his impairment."Bakkedahl, who defended the handling of the case amid criticism that Woods could get favourable treatment given his fame, also had a message for the golfer."If I can send any message to Mr. Woods, it's simply this: of all the people in the world who should not get behind the wheel of the car, it's the gentleman who is one of the most recognizable faces on the planet," said Bakkedahl."Somebody will see him, whether it's in Georgia or Nevada or New York or where have you. He's not to drive a car."WOODS SPENT TIME OUTSIDE US TO SEEK TREATMENTWoods, regarded as the greatest golfer of his generation and one of the most famous athletes on the planet, initially pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence charges stemming from his rollover crash in March.At the time, Woods told authorities he was looking down at his phone and did not realise the truck in front of him had slowed down before his crash. No one was injured in the crash.According to a probable cause affidavit, Woods had two hydrocodone pills in his pocket and officers observed him to be lethargic, slow, "sweating profusely" with eyes that were bloodshot, glassy and pupils that were "extremely dilated".Steele had granted Woods' request to travel outside the United States to receive treatment in a controlled environment and, in a March statement, the golfer said he was stepping away to seek treatment and focus on his health.In May, the judge granted prosecutors' request to subpoena Woods' prescription drug records, covering a period from the start of 2026 to March 27, the day Woods' Land Rover rolled over on a two-lane road near his Jupiter Island home in Florida.In July, the judge granted a similar request that allowed prosecutors to obtain hospital records connected to the golfer's medical treatment following his crash.Woods, who has not played in an official event since the 2024 British Open, has won 15 major championships, second only to Jack Nicklaus with 18. He also has won 82 PGA Tour events, a record he shares with Sam Snead.He spent a record 683 weeks as world number one and is the only player to have held all four major titles at the same time, a feat known as the "Tiger Slam". 

Jorge Martin led from start to finish to win ‌the British Grand Prix sprint at Silverstone on Saturday, extending his MotoGP ​championship lead as the Italian ‌manufacturer locked out the podium in dominant fashion.The Spaniard converted pole ‌position into a ⁠commanding 10-lap sprint win, ‌with Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura finishing ‌second and Martin's team mate Marco Bezzecchi completing an all-Aprilia podium in third.Martin's victory moved ⁠him to 220 points in the championship standings, opening up a 17-point gap over second-placed Ogura while Bezzecchi leapfrogged Marc Marquez to move up to third, 27 points behind.Marquez's title aspirations suffered a significant blow as the Ducati rider slumped from sixth on the grid to ninth at the chequered flag after suffering from tyre wear. He now sits 29 points behind Martin ahead of Sunday's race."A lot ​of work during summer, finally, all the work we did was worth it. So I'm really, really happy. Today, what can I say? Incredible job," Martin said.The polesitter, who smashed the lap ‌record in qualifying, made a perfect ⁠getaway but had ​to manage his resources carefully as tyre degradation became a significant factor."I ​tried to be as fast as possible, trying to manage. At the end, I had no rear tyre (grip)," he added. "So I thought Ai would catch me, but I was able to manage the distance and another sprint victory is always amazing."Ducati riders had won the last three sprints at Silverstone but the best they could manage was Gresini Racing's Alex Marquez finishing fourth, while VR46 Racing rider Fabio Di Giannantonio was fifth.While Martin controlled proceedings at the front, the drama unfolded behind as Marquez made contact with Bezzecchi at the start before recovering to ‌move up to fourth. MARQUEZ SUFFERS WITH ‌GRIPHowever, the Aprilias' superior corner ⁠speed soon proved decisive, with Bezzecchi overtaking the reigning champion on lap five and pulling ⁠clear.Marquez's afternoon went from bad to ⁠worse as tyre wear hampered his pace, allowing his brother Alex to move past him before KTM's Pedro Acosta, Joan Mir and Franco Morbidelli also found their way through.The reigning world champion barely held on to ninth place as Diogo Moreira closed in during the final moments, with Ducati mechanics immediately examining his rear tyre upon his return to ​the pits.But the day belonged to Aprilia and, while Martin was elated, an emotional Bezzecchi was in tears after securing a podium on his return from collarbone surgery, with the Italian still not fully fit and riding through pain."It was a tough period, as you probably can imagine. So it was very important to come back and enjoy on the bike. We did a very good job," Bezzecchi said."It's difficult for me to say what I'm feeling right now. But I want to say just a ‌massive thanks to all ​the team and all the people that stayed close to me. They worked hard with me."

Jorge Martin surged to victory in the MotoGP sprint race at the French Grand Prix at Le Mans Saturday as Marc Marquez broke a foot in a spectacular crash.Martin started eighth on the grid but raced through the pack heading into the first corner and then pulled away to win."I love this track," said Martin, who won both the sprint and the main race at Le Mans on his way to the 2024 world title.Behind him, reigning world champion Marquez endured a nightmare day that ended in a violent crash on his factory Ducati. It left him with a broken right foot that will require surgery.Marquez started on the front row but had slipped to seventh before losing control with less than two laps of the 13-lap race to go.He put his left foot on the ground to try to regain his balance but was flipped over the handlebars in the opposite direction, sliding along the ground as his disintegrating Ducati cartwheeled just past him.Ducati issued a statement after the race saying that an X-ray showed "a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot" and that Marquez, who is a distant fifth in the standings, would miss Sunday's main race and at least one more."He will fly to Madrid this evening to undergo surgery in the coming days. He will not participate in the Catalan Grand Prix next week," said the Ducati statement.Martin started from eighth on the grid but jumped to first early on his Aprilia."I struggled a bit in qualifying but I knew my potential," he said."I put all my determination into the start. I found myself ahead at the second corner and I pushed like I'm used to alone, and boom! boom! boom!" he added, punching the air three times.In balmy, sunny conditions, Martin finished a comfortable 1.107 seconds ahead of Francesco Bagnaia on the second factory Ducati."I'm happy," said the Italian. "We are stilling missing something compared to Aprilia. I hope tomorrow we will have good weather because we can make a good result."The other Aprilia, ridden by Marco Bezzecchi, was third 2.786sec back.The Italian remained at the top of the riders' standings, with his lead cut to six points over team-mate Martin.Pedro Acosta, on a KTM, is third, 36 points off the pace."I'm very happy," said Bezzecchi. "I wasn't feeling very good. Happy to get this result. Always fighting."Spaniard Acosta was fourth with Frenchman Fabio Quartararo fifth for Yamaha.The weekend's racing continues with Sunday's main race when rain is forecast. 

Aston Martin chief Adrian Newey revealed Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll fear permanent nerve damage from extreme vibration in their cars and are unlikely to complete the Australian Grand Prix.The Newey-designed car suffered issues through torrid pre-season testing, including an unreliable Honda power unit and a lack of spare parts. They were the slowest car with the fewest laps, completing a total of just 128 over three days in Bahrain – the equivalent of what many teams did in one day.Matters have not improved as they prepare for the season-opening race in Melbourne this weekend.Newey revealed both drivers were suffering such severe vibration through the steering wheel that they would only be able to complete 25 and 15 laps respectively. "That vibration into the chassis is causing a few reliability problems, mirrors falling off, tail lights falling off, all that sort of thing, which we are having to address," he said."But the much more significant problem with that is that vibration is transmitted ultimately into the driver's fingers. Fernando is of the feeling that he can't do more than 25 laps consecutively before he will risk permanent nerve damage into his hands. Lance is of the opinion that he can't do more than 15 laps before that threshold. I think there is no point in not being open and honest in this meeting," added Newey, considered the greatest designer the sport has seen. We are going to have to be very heavily restricted on how many laps we do in the race until we get on top of the source of the vibration and improve the vibration at source."There was speculation before the Australian Grand Prix that the team may not even compete, but it arrived as planned. Aston Martin had entered 2026 with high expectations given the arrival of Newey, who was also appointed team principal.

Aston Martin Executive Chairman Lawrence Stroll said Tuesday the team is set to embark on a "development journey" as Formula One readies for its ‌biggest technical overhaul in decades.Speaking in Tokyo at an ‌event to launch Aston ‍Martin's partnership with Honda, Stroll had high hopes for the team's new power unit ⁠but acknowledged they would have ⁠no idea how it would stack up against their rivals until ‍they get on track."We're all sitting here anxiously waiting to get on track and I really don't think we'll have the answer to that question before we get to Melbourne," he said."And even when we get to Melbourne, you know these rules and regulations will be in place for five years."Formula One ‌faces a new engine era in the upcoming season as well as the rule changes. The sport will see thinner and lighter cars and ‍a 50/50 split on ⁠internal combustion, using ‌sustainable fuel, and electric power.Testing starts behind closed doors in Barcelona on January 26, before the 2026 championship begins with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne in early March.Honda unveiled the new power unit for the 2026 season at the event, marking the official start of its exclusive supply deal with Aston Martin."There'll be reliability issues, there'll be all sorts of things," Stroll said, adding that he believed it was the first time in Formula One history that teams ​faced a new chassis and ‌power unit at the same time."There'll be a lot of issues to contend with, but ⁠we're very positive."Aston Martin ‍enters the season as a works team with Honda and with new team principal Adrian Newey leading the design of the new car.Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe said he believed electrification technology became more important this year in order to win given the engine's electric power ​usage."We want to show that Honda's technology is world class, even in the age of electrification," he said.Andy Cowell, Aston Martin's chief strategy officer, said Honda and Aston Martin had set tough targets and were already deep into validation testing."We want to win. But we understand that Formula One is the pinnacle of motor sport," he said."It's really exciting," he added. "Pulling together an Adrian Newey-designed ⁠Aston Martin Honda car is something that everybody is really revelling in."
