Qatar’s agility in responding to global challenges has enabled the country to consistently play an outsized role in global affairs, a top official of LuLu Group has said.Dr Mohamed Althaf, LuLu Group Global director, noted that Qatar’s ability to adapt quickly to different situations has allowed it to maintain continuity and stability even during periods of uncertainty.According to Dr Althaf, Qatar’s resilience was most visible during the Covid-19 pandemic, when supply chains worldwide were disrupted. Despite global shortages, Qatar ensured uninterrupted access to essentials, he pointed out.He recalled: “During Covid-19, the challenge was last-mile delivery and staffing. That problem does not exist now. Stores are full, and as I often say, Qatar may be a small country, but it has a big heart.”“Everyone here — residents and citizens alike — will be treated well without discrimination. We have historical examples to draw from. During Covid-19, everyone was cared for, and I am confident Qatar is capable of protecting all its people again,” he said.Two weeks into the US-Israel-Iran war, Dr Althaf reiterated the Qatari government’s reassurance to its citizens and residents that food supplies and essential goods in the country are well stocked.Speaking to Qatar TV on Friday, His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), announced that “Qatar has clear, applicable strategies in the field of food security, as the strategic food supply stock has already been increased to meet the country's needs for 18 months, up from nine months previously.”The minister emphasised that the country did not need to use this stock, as long as there were open supply channels and routes that ensured an uninterrupted food supply by both land and air.Qatar’s strategic water supply is also secure and sufficient for over four months of consumption, the minister confirmed, adding that the relevant authorities are actively working to increase the volume of this supply, ensuring a continuous flow.Dr Althaf also underscored Qatar’s investments in infrastructure, which have reinforced its ability to respond quickly to challenges. The country has built robust logistics networks, storage facilities, and digital systems that support both resilience and growth. These investments, he said, ensure that Qatar remains attractive to entrepreneurs and investors seeking a reliable hub in the region.He pointed out that Qatar’s proactive stance has consistently enabled it to benefit from shifting global dynamics. The combination of agility, responsiveness, and strategic investment has strengthened its reputation as a country capable of adapting to change while maintaining stability, Dr Althaf stressed.

The Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on joint co-operation and the exchange of expertise.This agreement aims to strengthen institutional partnerships and develop training and capacity-building opportunities between the sides.The MoU was signed by Director of the Diplomatic Institute, Dr Abdulaziz Mohammed al-Horr and Commander of Lekhwiya Training Institute, Colonel Nawaf Abdullah Bakheet al-Maadadi.The MoU aims to broaden co-operation in training, development, and the exchange of expertise and knowledge, as well as to organise joint programmes and workshops. This will contribute to developing national competencies and enhancing institutional integration among entities involved in capacity building in the diplomatic and security fields. It will also support national efforts to prepare qualified personnel and facilitate the exchange of best practices and experiences.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in co-operation with the Environmental Security Group of the Internal Security Force 'Lekhwiya', has carried out an extensive inspection campaign targeting a number of natural stone resource extraction sites and sand factories across various regions of the country, as part of efforts to strengthen environmental oversight and ensure compliance with approved requirements and standards.The campaign, implemented by the Wildlife Development Department, is part of the ministry’s efforts to regulate natural resource extraction activities and reduce the associated negative environmental impacts, thereby contributing to the protection of natural resources and the preservation of ecological balance.Accordingly, the specialised teams focused on monitoring the extent to which the targeted sites comply with environmental controls, identifying any potential violations related to operational practices, waste management, or exceeding permitted work boundaries, in addition to verifying the implementation of applicable environmental safety procedures.The campaign further included assessing the environmental impact of ongoing activities at extraction sites, ensuring that operating entities adhere to approved environmental management plans, and taking the necessary actions regarding the observations recorded, in accordance with the legal and regulatory frameworks in force in the country.

Qatar officially launched the fourth edition of Arabian Gulf Security — a large-scale joint tactical exercise bringing together security forces from across the Gulf Cooperation Council — in a ceremony Sunday under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. The exercise, which runs until 4 February, features comprehensive participation from all six GCC member states — Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates — alongside specialised security units from the United States. His Excellency Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Abdullah bin Khalaf bin Hattab al-Kaabi attended the opening ceremony, along with Assistant Secretary-General for Security Affairs at the GCC General Secretariat Brigadier-General Hamad Ajlan al-Amim, Their Excellencies the heads of the exercise's higher committees from across GCC nations, and senior officers and representatives of the participating security agencies. Arabian Gulf Security 4 comprises over 70 advanced training scenarios, amassing more than 260 hours of intensive field drills aimed at sharpening tactical preparedness and boosting operational efficiency. Officials have underscored the exercise's core objectives: to elevate security readiness among participating forces, strengthen integration and field co-ordination across multiple agencies, and assess and refine operational plans, response protocols, and joint interoperability. The drills are designed to reflect the advanced professionalism and evolving capabilities of Gulf security agencies in facing contemporary security challenges. The scenarios are built around real-world situations, spanning from counterterrorism and emergency response to complex field operations, enabling participating forces to critically evaluate and enhance collective strategies. Arabian Gulf Security 4 forms part of a wider series of periodic joint tactical exercises, initiated by GCC Interior Ministers, with the goal of reinforcing collective regional security and fostering a unified operational command structure. The first edition was held in Bahrain in 2016, followed by the second in the United Arab Emirates in 2019, and the third in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province in 2022. The ongoing fourth edition now highlights Qatar's pivotal role as a strategic host and active contributor to regional stability. This continued collaboration supports the GCC's broader mission of developing an integrated and agile security framework, as laid out in the Joint Security Agreement and in line with the GCC's collective security principles. 

The Qatar Armed Forces have concluded the Cross-Country Running Championship held at Al Bidda Park in Doha.The event featured participation from 14 teams representing various units of the Qatar Armed Forces, along with teams from the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), the General Directorate of Passports, and the Police College.In the under‑40 category, the Police Academy team secured first place.The Qatar Amiri Air Force team claimed first place in the 40‑to‑50 age group, while the Lekhwiya team took first place in the over‑50 category.At the conclusion of the tournament, Military Sports Federation president Major-General Youssef Dasmal al-Kuwari presented the medals, crowned the winners, and honoured the participant with the highest turnout in the championship.

His Excellency the Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, who is also Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) and Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Police Academy, attended Sunday the certificate-award ceremony for the 8th batch of officer cadets at the Police College. The graduating class was made up of 168 cadets, among them scholarship students from Kuwait, Jordan, Palestine, Yemen, Libya, and Somalia. The ceremony took place at the academy’s headquarters, with the attendance of senior officials and officers from the Ministry of Interior and Lekhwiya, along with the families of the graduates. During the ceremony, HE Sheikh Khalifa awarded certificates to the graduates.
