Las Damas de Rizal Doha Chapter concluded Special Webinar Series 9 on October 3 to celebrate World Teachers’ Day. Themed “Igniting the Mind: Ang Pananaw sa Edukasyon at Makabagong Pedagohiya ni Gat Jose Rizal,” the event gathered 131 participants via Zoom and was streamed live on the chapter’s Facebook page.  Lady Queen Victoria Bedon, Assistant Secretary and Membership Committee Head, opened with an invocation seeking wisdom and guidance. Lady Dr Noemi Formaran, Vice President and Education Committee Head, who served as the moderator, welcomed attendees and highlighted the continuing relevance of Rizal’s educational philosophy in today’s evolving learning landscape.  Lady Lina Brosas, Grand Matriarch and founder, delivered an inspirational message, stressing that true education goes beyond information. “Education should awaken curiosity, critical thinking, values, and a deeper sense of purpose,” she said, echoing Rizal’s belief in education as a transformative force.\ The highlight was a lecture by Dr Julius A. Reyes, a Doha-based educator at Philippine School Doha. A social science educator, guest professor at Pacific Intercontinental College, and Philippine Normal University alumnus, Reyes holds a Doctor of Education from National University and a Doctor Honoris Causa from Instituto Educando Para a Paz in Brazil. He also coached the champion team in the Order of the Knights of Rizal’s Battle of the Brains.  Dr Reyes discussed Rizal’s educational philosophy and its relevance to modern pedagogy, including inquiry and critical thinking, holistic development, education for nation-building, inclusion and accessibility, experiential learning, and teachers as mentors rather than mere dispensers of knowledge.  Participants reflected on Rizal’s conviction that education is a “light for the nation”—one that forms citizens who think critically, act compassionately, and serve their communities. The interactive session also invited attendees to remember inspiring teachers who shaped their own journeys.  The program concluded with a recognition plaque for Reyes. Lady Sheila Marie Cantos, Chapter President, gave closing remarks, thanking the speaker, guests, organisers, partner institutions, and participants. Certificates of Attendance were provided after completion of the webinar evaluation form.  The chapter announced its next webinar on November 6, 2026, featuring Dr Susana Arjeno.  Through Special Webinar Series 9, Las Damas de Rizal Doha Chapter reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Rizalian values, educational excellence, and cultural pride. The event honoured World Teachers’ Day and kept Dr Jose Rizal’s vision alive and relevant today.
