England’s Jos Buttler struck form with a fluent 52 to help Gujarat Titans to their first win of the 2026 IPL as they beat Delhi Capitals in a last-ball thriller Wednesday with David Miller falling just short of guiding his new side home.The South African looked set to take Delhi over the line but elected to turn down a single on the second last ball with his side needing two to win.Bowler Prasidh Krishna then outfoxed Miller with a slow delivery with the last ball of the match which the batter missed with a big swing as wicketkeeper Buttler hit the stumps to run out Kuldeep Yadav, who was desperately scrambling for the single that would have forced a super over.Earlier, Buttler raised his first T20 half-century after a dismal run, which included a disappointing T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.His knock laid the foundations for Gujarat’s 210-4 and in reply Delhi finished on 209-8 in 20 overs despite an explosive 41 not out by Miller and KL Rahul’s 92.Gujarat won by one run to bounce back from two defeats. Delhi suffered their first loss after two wins.Buttler found his groove with a fourth-ball six off Mukesh Kumar and there was no looking back as he smacked four more hits over the fence in his 27-ball knock.Buttler, 35, told AFP at the start of the T20 tournament that “he still has the hunger for runs” and still has the energy and motivation to play at the highest level.But his knock for Gujarat seemed to have inspired the team’s batting as skipper Shubman Gill also struck form with a 70 after he missed the previous game. Gill was involved in a 60-run stand with Buttler and then put on 104 runs with Washington Sundar, who scored 55 for his first IPL fifty. Delhi started their reply strongly courtesy of Pathum Nissanka, who made 41, and Rahul as the pair put on 76 runs for the opening wicket but the chase wobbled as wickets fell. Nissanka missed out on a fifty and leg-spinner Rashid Khan struck twice on successive balls in the 10th over. BRIEF SCORESGujarat Titans 210 for 4 (Gill 70, Washington 55, Buttler 52, Mukesh 2-55) beat Delhi Capitals 209 for 8 (Rahul 92, Miller 41*, Nissanka 41, Rashid 3-17) by one run 

There were growing calls Tuesday for teenager Vaibhav Suryavanshi to be fast-tracked into India’s senior national team after slamming a 17-ball 52 to launch his IPL season.The batsman turned 15 last week, making him eligible to represent India under International Cricket Council rules, having already starred for his country at youth level.On Monday he smacked four fours and five sixes as Rajasthan Royals chased down a target of 128 with 7.5 overs to spare against Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati.The teenager made history in last year’s IPL in a dazzling debut season highlighted by a 35-ball century, the second fastest in the history of the T20 tournament.Spin bowling great Anil Kumble compared Suryavanshi to batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who made his full international debut aged 16.“Yes, absolutely. If a player shows this level of consistency, he should be fast-tracked, just like Sachin Tendulkar,” Kumble said on JioHotstar.Suryavanshi has already made his mark at youth international level, hammering 175 off just 80 balls as India beat England in the Under-19 World Cup final in February. Former India batter Ambati Rayudu described Suryavanshi as “a cut above a lot of youngsters in the country”.“He’s a talent that will definitely do wonders for Indian cricket,” Rayudu said on ESPNcricinfo. “I don’t know when, but definitely in the future.” Inside the Rajasthan Royals camp, the leadership group has been focused on shielding the prodigy from the pressures of early fame.“What I tell him is that you’re going to play 14 games (in this season’s IPL) and regardless of what goes on in the game, it shouldn’t bother you,” captain Riyan Parag said.“What goes around in the media shouldn’t bother you.”He added following Monday’s latest eye-catching display: “Like everyone in the stands, we also had this feeling of ‘wow’, wondering how he is able to do this.“He is a talent and I am very glad that he is in our team, and not the opponent’s,” he said. 

Bangladesh’s cricket board said Tuesday it had repeated its refusal to travel to India for next month’s T20 World Cup during talks with the ICC governing body. With ties tense between the two countries, Bangladesh wants the International Cricket Council to shift their World Cup games from India to co-hosts Sri Lanka, citing security concerns.The World Cup begins on February 7 and Bangladesh are scheduled to play their four group matches in India. The row erupted on January 3, when India forced Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman to quit the Indian Premier League (IPL). Mustafizur, who has played in the IPL for other teams in previous editions, was snapped up at auction in December by Kolkata for more than $1mn. His sacking sparked fury in Dhaka.Tuesday, during a video conference with the ICC, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said it had “reiterated its request for the ICC to consider relocating Bangladesh’s matches outside India”. Political relations between India and Bangladesh soured after a mass uprising in Dhaka in 2024 toppled then-prime minister Sheikh Hasina, a close ally of New Delhi. India’s foreign ministry last month condemned what it called “unremitting hostility against minorities” in Muslim-majority Bangladesh. Bangladesh’s interim leader, Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, has accused India of exaggerating the scale of the violence. “The BCB reaffirmed its position regarding the decision not to travel to India, citing security concerns,” the BCB said in a statement. “While the ICC highlighted that the tournament itinerary has already been announced and requested the BCB to reconsider its stance, the Board’s position remains unchanged,” the statement added. The ICC have not commented. The BCB said discussions with the ICC continue to “explore possible solutions”, it added, but that it “remains committed to safeguarding the well-being of its players, officials and staff”.Bangladesh, led by Litton Das, are placed ninth in the ICC T20 rankings. They have played all the nine editions of the tournament, but have never qualified for the semi-finals.
