The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC)-sponsored Qatar Arc Trials delivered a day of high-class action at ParisLongchamp yesterday. A stacked nine-race card, comprising seven Group contests run under the Qatar banner, served up an afternoon of exceptional quality, tense tactical battles and thrilling finishes.Ambassador of Qatar to the France HE Sheikh Ali bin Jassim al-Thani, QREC Chairman Hamad bin Abdulrahman al-Attiyah, QREC Board Member Khalifa bin Mohammed al-Attiyah and QREC Deputy CEO Ahmed Amanalla al-Sheebani crowned the winners of the day's feature races. **media[488249]** Friendly Soul lands second Group 1 in the Qatar Prix VermeilleFriendly Soul, the five-year-old mare, recorded the second Group 1 victory of her career by winning the Qatar Prix Vermeille over 2400m. The race was reserved for three-year-old and older fillies and mares and attracted a strong field of thirteen runners.Trained by John & Thady Gosden, ridden by James Doyle, and owned by George Strawbridge, Friendly Soul showed plenty of courage hold on strongly in the closing stages.Friendly Soul broke very well and quickly found herself in front, with no other runner showing much interest in taking the lead. She raced a little keen in the early stages, while Tattycoram settled in second position behind her. **media[488248]**At the end of the back straight, Composing moved up on the outside of Friendly Soul and began to put pressure on the leader. In the false straight, the two mares suddenly increased the pace and quickly pulled around four to five lengths clear of the rest of the field, with Tattycoram in third and Sparan Nua in fourth.Entering the final straight, Composing began to weaken, leaving Friendly Soul alone in front and still clear of the rest. Inside the final 300m, she continued to hold a good advantage, while Pink Panthera started to make strong progress from behind.Pink Panthera continued to close in the final stages, but Friendly Soul showed a very good attitude and kept finding enough under pressure to hold off her rivals. She eventually won by three-quarters of a length, with Pink Panthera finishing second and Sunly taking third. **media[488250]** Erdenali shines in Qatar Prix du Moulin de LongchampErdenali, the progressive three-year-old gelding, recorded the biggest success of his young career by winning the Group 1 Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp over 1600m.Trained by Francis-Henri Graffard, ridden by Mickael Barzalona, and owned and bred by Aga Khan Studs SC, the homebred colt showed once again the quality he had displayed from the start of his career.Erdenali broke well and was soon settled in midfield, just behind the favourite Gstaad. The race was led by Dorset and the very keen Opera Ballo, who both helped set a strong tempo.Entering the false straight, the two leaders increased the pace again and opened up a gap of around two lengths. Erdenali, meanwhile, was travelling very strongly in fifth position, still behind Gstaad.As most of his rivals began to come under pressure approaching the final straight, Erdenali was still travelling comfortably. With a few lengths to make up on the leaders, Mickael Barzalona began to ask him for an effort and he quickly moved into third position, while Ten Bob Tony challenged him on the outside.Inside the final 200m, Erdenali went past Opera Ballo, but Ten Bob Tony was still right alongside him and continued to challenge strongly.However, inside the final 100m, Erdenali found something extra and pulled away again to win by one and a quarter lengths. Ten Bob Tony finished second, while Gstaad took third. HM Alchahine dominates Qatar Cup – Prix DragonHM Alchahine, the six-year-old Purebred Arabian, recorded another top-level success by winning the Group 1 (PA) Qatar Cup – Prix Dragon over 2000m.Trained by Mme Jean-François Bernard, ridden by Cristian Demuro, and owned by Helal Alalawi, HM Alchahine produced a very easy performance to register the sixth Group 1 (PA) victory of his career.HM Alchahine broke well but was soon steadied by Cristian Demuro and settled in second-last position, just behind Al Riffaa. Shaihaan led the field at a slow pace, and the positions remained mostly unchanged through the first part of the race.Inside the final 300m, he was still cruising and had yet to be seriously asked, while Shayeg and Geneva began to fight for the minor places.HM Alchahine soon went clear and was never in danger. Cristian Demuro only needed to ride him hands and heels inside the final 100m as he came home an easy four-length winner. Geneva stayed on to finish second, while Shayeg took third.Meanwhile, Aga Khan Studs enjoyed a memorable afternoon, completing a treble on the card after earlier success with Erdenali, before Varandir landed the Group 2 Qatar Prix Niel and Daryz won the Group 2 Qatar Prix Foy. 

Wathnan Racing’s Leading Change, the unbeaten three-year-old colt, took another major step forward by winning the Group 1 DraftKings Travers Stakes over 2000m on dirt at Saratoga, New York. The race, reserved for three-year-olds, attracted a strong field of ten runners.Trained by Brad H. Cox, ridden by Manuel Franco, and owned by Wathnan Racing, Leading Change maintained his perfect record with a very determined performance at the highest level.The colt came into the race unbeaten after only two career starts. He made a winning debut over seven furlongs before stepping straight into Group 3 company for his second appearance when winning the Group 3 Indiana Derby over 1700m on dirt at Indiana Grand.His victory at Saratoga therefore gave Leading Change a third win from three starts and the first Gr.1 success of his young and promising career. The performance was even more impressive as he defeated two leading Triple Crown contenders, Napoleon Solo and Golden Tempo.Leading Change broke sharply and went straight to the front in the early stages before allowing Napoleon Solo (Liam’s Map) to take over after around two furlongs. Manuel Franco then settled the colt in a prominent position, travelling close to the leader as the field made its way down the back straight.Around three furlongs from home, Leading Change was pushed along and briefly looked outpaced as Napoleon Solo continued to travel strongly in front. However, the colt responded well to his jockey and began to make progress again approaching the final two furlongs.Napoleon Solo still held the advantage entering the final furlong, but Leading Change continued to close under pressure. He hung slightly to his left inside the final 110 yards, but kept finding more and gradually reduced the gap.In the final strides, Leading Change got the better of Napoleon Solo to regain the lead and score by half a length. Napoleon Solo finished second, with Golden Tempo (Curlin) staying on to take third.Bred by WinStar Farm LLC, Leading Change is out of Starship Warpspeed (Congrats). He is a half-brother to Shedaresthedevil (Daredevil), a three-time Gr.1 winner, successful over 1800m at three and twice over 1600m at four. She also won two Gr.2 races, over 1600m at four and 1800m at five, as well as three Gr.3 races, twice over 1600m at three and once over the same distance at four. Leading Change is also a half-brother to Star of Wonder (Uncle Mo), a Listed winner over 1600m at four, and to Mojovation (Quality Road), who won on debut over 1200m at two before also being placed at Gr.3 level over the same distance later that season. 

Four-year-old filly Fakhira underlined her class with a determined victory in the 1900m Gr.1 (PA) Criterium Des Pouliches - Yas Racing at La Teste, enhancing her growing reputation among the leading Purebred Arabian fillies. Open to Purebred Arabian fillies and mares aged four years and older, the prestigious contest attracted a quality field of seven runners. Fakhira's success improved her impressive career record to three wins from four starts. Trained by Thomas Fourcy, ridden by Christophe Soumillon, and carrying the colours of Khalifa bin Sheail al-Kuwari, Fakhira built on the promise she showed during an unbeaten three-year-old campaign, when she won both of her starts over 2000m and 2100m. Her latest Group 1 triumph further confirms her considerable talent and establishes her as one of the standout performers in the Purebred Arabian ranks. Fakhira had already hinted that a major success was within reach when making a highly encouraging seasonal return at Chantilly, where she finished a creditable third against the colts in the Gr.1 (PA) Qatar Derby des Pur-Sang Arabes de 4 Ans. Dropping back to face fillies and mares, the talented four-year-old fully capitalised on that promise, producing a determined performance to secure her first Group 1 (PA) success. Breaking smartly from the gates, Fakhira was settled comfortably in fifth as Bianca De Ghazal set the pace. The early stages unfolded at a measured tempo, with the leader dictating the race while the remainder of the seven-runner field held their positions, waiting to make their moves. The pace began to lift approaching the home turn, but Fakhira was still travelling powerfully, with Christophe Soumillon yet to ask for her full effort. Up front, Bianca De Ghazal continued to dictate proceedings, while Geneva ranged alongside the leader to mount a serious challenge. Straightening for home, Fakhira cruised into contention before sweeping to the front inside the final 300 metres, still travelling with plenty in hand. Geneva refused to yield on her outside, while TS Waseema (Mister Ginoux) launched a sustained challenge along the inside rail. The trio battled all the way to the finish in a thrilling climax. Showing both determination and class, Fakhira responded gamely when challenged, finding extra in the closing strides to deny Geneva by a head. TS Waseema stayed on well to complete the podium in third. Bred by Sheail bin Khalifa al-Kuwari, Fakhira is by Al Mamun Monlau out of Falsafah, who won over 1200 metres in Qatar as a four-year-old. She is also a half-sister to Al Safinat and Najashee, adding further depth to an accomplished pedigree. 

 The QREC-sponsored Qatar Prix du Jockey Club, one of France’s premier Classic races for three-year-olds, was won by Constitution River yesterday.Hamad bin Abdulrahman al-Attiyah, QREC Chairman, presented the trophies following the Group 1 contest, also known as the French Derby, which attracted a high-class field and produced a memorable one-two-three for trainer Aidan O’Brien. **media[452557]**Constitution River confirmed his class with a determined success, becoming a Group 1 winner and taking his record to four wins from five career starts. The race, run over 2100m, featured a strong field, and the talented colt officially earned his first Group 1 title after already showing high-class form at two and on his seasonal return.Trained by O’Brien, ridden by Ryan Moore, and carrying the colours of M. Tabor, D. Smith, Mrs J. Magnier and Westerberg, Constitution River came into the race with a progressive profile and proved his growing credentials. Hawk Mountain finished second, with Montreal taking third, giving Aidan O’Brien a remarkable 1-2-3 in the Classic. 

In a pioneering move within Qatari horse racing, the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC), chaired by chairman Hamad bin Abdulrahman al-Attiyah, has decided to introduce races for purebred Arabian show horses, starting from the new season set to kick off next month.This decision reflects Qatar’s keen interest in Purebred Arabian show horses, the global championships held for this category in the country and Qatar’s prominent standing in the world of Arabian show horses in general. Accordingly, QREC will launch this new initiative with races reserved for Purebred Arabian show horses, beginning with nine races scheduled across the upcoming season.Of these, eight races will be staged at Al Rayyan Racecourse and one at Al Uqda. These races have been included in the new season’s programme, which has been announced. They will be part of various race meetings rather than standalone race days exclusively dedicated to this category. Entries will only be accepted for local bred horses from Arabian show horse strain, as confirmed by QREC’s Horse Show Section. Apprentice and Qatari rider allowances will not be claimed in any races of this series.The first of these races will feature in the ninth meeting of the season, the Al Thakira Cup Day at Al Rayyan dirt track, on 12 November, as Race 7 for maiden Purebred Arabian show mares aged four years and older over 1,000m.The second will be staged in the 15th meeting, the Ras Laffan Cup Day at Al Rayyan dirt track, as race 7 for maiden Purebred Arabian show horses aged four years and older over 1,000m.The 18th meeting, the Bu Samrah Cup Day at Al Rayyan dirt track, will include Race 7 for maiden Purebred Arabian show mares aged four years and older over 1,000m.The 24th meeting, the Zekreet Cup Day at Al Rayyan dirt track, will see the addition of a new race for maiden Purebred Arabian show horses aged four years and older over 1,000m.The fifth race of this category will take place at the 31st meeting, the Umm Al Zubar Cup Day at Al Rayyan dirt track, with a 1,000m race for four years and older Purebred Arabian show mares, which have not won more than one race.In the 33rd meeting, the Baidda Algaa Cup Day at Al Rayyan dirt track, Race 8 will be reserved for four years and older Purebred Arabian show horses, which have not won more than one race, and will be run over 1,000m.The 45th meeting, the Ras Rokn Island Cup Day at Al Uqda dirt track, will feature Race 8 for Purebred Arabian show mares aged four years and older that have not won more than one race, to be run over 1,100m.The 55th meeting, the Fuwairit Cup Day at Al Rayyan dirt track, will stage Race 7 for Purebred Arabian show horses aged four years and older that have not won more than one race, to be run over 1,100m.The final race for this category will take place in the 66th meeting, the Qatar Gold Sword & Trophy Day at Al Rayyan. While the rest of the card will be contested on turf, this race alone will be run on the dirt track. It will be Race 5, the concluding contest for Purebred Arabian show horses and mares aged four years and older over 1,200m. Horses and mares which have won a qualifying race will have first priority to run.Thereafter, preference will go to novice stallions and mares based on the number of times they have finished second, then third, then fourth. Horses that have not finished in the first four in the previous races will not be eligible to participate. Subsequently, maiden horses and mares will obtain priority to run based on their number of second, third and fourth places in this order.A horse or a mare without any placing in the first four in the previous races will not gain a run in this race.
