German industrial orders fell sharply in August due to a drop in orders in transport equipment manufacturing, according to data from the German Federal Statistical Office on Tuesday.Factory orders plunged 10.6 percent from the previous month, compared with a 3.2 percent rise in July. They had been expected to fall 0.9 percent.Excluding large-scale orders, new orders were 0.1 percent lower compared to July.Foreign orders fell 5.4 percent in August, while domestic orders declined 17.3 percent.On a year-on-year basis, growth in factory orders slowed to 2.7 percent from 14 percent in July.
