PM receives phone calls from counterparts

His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani received telephone calls Saturday from Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Dr Badr Abdel-Aty; Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan; Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr Ayman Safadi; Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah al-Saud; Kuwait’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Jarrah Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah; UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan; Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdul Latif bin Rashid al-Zayani; Oman’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood al-Busaidi; and Lebanon’s Prime Minister Dr Nawaf Salam.HE Sheikh Mohammed also received phone calls from European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abbas Araghchi.The calls dealt with the military escalation in the region and its repercussions on security and stability, both in the region and internationally.They also dealt with discussing ways to resolve all differences peacefully.HE Sheikh Mohammed stressed that Iran’s targeting of Qatari territory with ballistic missiles was a blatant violation of its national sovereignty, inconsistent with the principles of good neighbourliness, and could not be accepted under any justification or pretext.He pointed out that Qatar has always been keen to distance itself from regional conflicts and has sought to facilitate dialogue between the Iranian side and the international community.However, HE Sheikh Mohammed added, the renewed targeting of its territory does not show good faith and threatens the understanding on which bilateral relations between the two countries were built.He expressed Qatar’s strong condemnation of the Iranian attacks that targeted Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE and Bahrain, and Qatar’s full solidarity with them in all the measures they take to preserve their sovereignty, security and stability.The ministers expressed their countries’ condemnation of the Iranian missile attack on Qatari territory, considering it a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, its airspace, international law, and the Charter of the United Nations.During their phone conversation, HE Sheikh Mohammed and Iran’s Dr Araghchi discussed the outcomes of the third round of negotiations between the US and Iran, which took place in Geneva, Switzerland.They emphasised the importance of continuing US-Iranian negotiations and supporting diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and promote security, stability, and peace in the region.

Qatar takes part in high-level disarmament conference

Qatar participated in the high-level segment of the Conference on Disarmament held in Geneva.Qatar was represented at the event by Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Delegation of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva Jawhara bint Abdulaziz al-Suwaidi.Al-Suwaidi affirmed that the international system is going through a critical phase marked by the increasing number of armed conflicts, declining commitment to international law and the Charter of the UN, rising polarisation and geopolitical competition, as well as the acceleration of nuclear modernisation programmes and the integration of emerging technologies into military systems, in addition to the growing risks of the weaponisation of outer space.She stressed that these developments place the disarmament and non-proliferation architecture before unprecedented challenges.Al-Suwaidi expressed Qatar's strong condemnation of the continued Israeli aggression and crimes committed against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, including the targeting of civilians and vital facilities, the imposition of restrictions on the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and the use of heavy and internationally prohibited weapons.She explained that 2026 represents an important milestone for the global nuclear order with the convening of the Eleventh Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which constitutes the cornerstone of the global nuclear non-proliferation regime and the fundamental basis for pursuing nuclear disarmament. She stressed that disarmament is not merely a political option, but a humanitarian, security, and developmental necessity.Al-Suwaidi affirmed that the establishment of a Middle East free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction remains an urgent priority to enhance regional security and stability, reiterating Qatar's support for UN efforts in this regard.The Deputy Permanent Representative of Qatar in Geneva renewed Qatar's commitment to the principles and objectives of disarmament and nuclearnon-proliferation, the promotion of international security, and its support for international mechanisms aimed at disarmament, given their essential role in strengthening peace and security at both the regional and international levels.

Labour minister meets Niger counterpart

His Excellency Minister of Labour, Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri, met Saturday with Minister of Public Service, Labour and Employment of the Republic of Niger, Aissatou Abdoulaye Tondi, on the sidelines of the International Labour Organisation's Governing Body meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting reviewed key issues of mutual interest in the field of labour.

Qatar reaffirms commitment to protecting education in conflict zones at Geneva PeaceTalks 2025

The State of Qatar participated in the Geneva PeaceTalks 2025, held on the sidelines of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, with the presence of prominent thought leaders and decision-makers.HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater delivered a keynote address at the event, which is marked by the United Nations each year on September 9.In her speech, Her Excellency emphasized the devastating impact of conflicts on children and stressed the importance of enabling them to continue their education so they can fulfill their aspirations and contribute to rebuilding their communities.She highlighted the role of education in fostering resilience in conflict zones and supporting peace-building efforts.She also addressed the recent attack on the State of Qatar, despite its ongoing efforts to promote peace and mediate conflicts through peaceful means, pointing to the troubling double standards evident in global responses.Concluding her remarks, Her Excellency reaffirmed Qatar's unwavering commitment to international efforts aimed at protecting education in conflict-affected areas, supporting peace processes, and promoting justice and equality as essential foundations for global stability and security.
