Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, confirmed that a joint Gulf-Russian-Jordanian ministerial meeting will be held on Monday via videoconference. In a statement issued Sunday, the GCC Secretary-General said the meeting with Jordan and Russia will address and discuss the repercussions of Iranian attacks on GCC member states and Jordan, as well as the serious developments in the region and their negative impacts on the wider world.

The Iranian side has agreed to allow the passage of twenty additional Pakistan-flagged ships through the Strait of Hormuz, with two ships crossing daily, said Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday.In a post on his official X account, he said: "This positive announcement marks a meaningful step toward peace and will strengthen our collective efforts in that direction. Dialogue, diplomacy, and such confidence-building measures are the only way forward".The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most strategic maritime passages in the world, as it forms the main artery for almost one-fifth of global oil production and roughly a quarter of global liquefied natural gas trade from Gulf states to world markets, including Pakistan, which heavily relies on these supplies to meet its energy needs from regional countries.Since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war on Iran on February 28, and Iran’s response with missile and drone attacks on Israel and several regional countries, tensions between the sides have festered, causing major disruptions in shipping through the Strait, as most tankers have temporarily halted transit.These developments have contributed to rising oil prices and raised international concerns about global energy security. 

 Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari affirmed the State of Qatar's support for all diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and ensuring the stability of the region.During the ministry's weekly media briefing on Tuesday, Dr. Al Ansari stressed that the end of all crises is achieved at the dialogue table, even when conflicts involve military escalation.He said that getting to the negotiating table quickly and stopping attacks would benefit the peoples of the region and international peace and security, and would enhance global economic stability.Dr. Al Asari emphasized that any attack on the State of Qatar is an attack on its sovereignty, noting that the current circumstances require first repelling the daily attacks on Qatar before talking about mediation or peaceful solutions.He also reiterated the State of Qatar's stance calling for a cessation to the escalation in the region, recalling Doha's warning years ago that uncontrolled escalation could lead to disastrous consequences, and that what the region is currently witnessing represents a dangerous level of escalation that can be contained if the parties return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy.Dr. Al Ansari revealed that the only official contact between the State of Qatar and Iran since the beginning of the war came through a telephone call between HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, noting that Doha's focus is currently on defending the state and the diplomatic efforts related to that.He pointed out that the Iranian statements, which included an apology and a commitment not to attack Arab countries, have not been interpreted into reality on the ground, as the region witnessed attacks on the UAE and Bahrain, followed by an attack on Qatar itself, stressing that Qatar will continue to defend its territory and national interests.The Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the State of Qatar continues its joint diplomatic efforts with the GCC countries through continuous meetings and communications to ensure full coordination at the defence and political levels. He noted that any Gulf statement that was considered a comment on statements or apologies from the Iranian side that were not interpreted into reality on the ground has become unnecessary as long as the attacks have not stopped.He pointed out that Iranian attacks on the State of Qatar continue daily, but Qatar's Armed Forces continue to repel and deter this aggression with high efficiency, and without the attacks causing significant damage on the ground. He stressed that security in the country remains stable thanks to the efforts of all national forces, and thanks to all the necessary precautions taken by the State of Qatar from a military standpoint to protect its territory and infrastructure. This has enabled the interception and thwarting of most of the attacks that targeted the country, as no attacks have been recorded on the vital civilian infrastructure on which the lives of the population depend.Regarding the repercussions of the Iranian attacks on the local economy, Dr. Al Ansari said that the attacks affected the Qatari and global economy, noting that Qatar was forced to halt production in some facilities as a precautionary measure, in the first action of its kind in the country's history, indicating that the resumption of production is linked to the technical conditions of the competent authorities.He considered the attacks on these facilities in the region a dangerous precedent that could cause significant economic damage to the countries of the region and also affect the global economy. He stressed that the repercussions of targeting energy facilities or disrupting maritime navigation in the region will not be limited to its geographical scope, but will be felt by global markets.He said that targeting water facilities, desalination plants, water reservoirs, food and medicine stockpiles, or pharmaceutical production facilities poses a grave danger to the people of the region and beyond. He emphasized the need to stop such attacks immediately, regardless of who is behind them, and pointing to the direct impact of attacks on vital facilities in some Gulf countries on the lives of residents.  Dr. Al Ansari stressed during the weekly briefing that targeting shipping lanes and maritime straits, including shipments of oil, food and medicine, is unacceptable and poses a high risk to all countries in the region.He affirmed Qatar's support for all diplomatic efforts aimed at avoiding escalation and protecting the safety of navigation in the Arabian Gulf.Dr. Al Ansari stated that the State of Qatar has taken all necessary measures to ensure the resilience of the national economy, while maintaining full commitment to international clients until conditions return to normal and the global economy resumes recovery.He warned of the danger of targeting vital infrastructure in the region, as it constitutes a direct threat to civilian lives and could lead to a widespread humanitarian catastrophe, with economic repercussions extending to various parts of the world.Regarding strategic partnerships with the United States of America and other allies in the field of defence and security, Al Ansari confirmed that these partnerships are not in question, as they represent a fundamental pillar in strengthening regional security and deterring any threats.He pointed to the existence of almost daily communications with US officials at various levels, and noted that Qatar deals with the on-ground reality according to the existing diplomatic coordination, and that decisions regarding the continuation or adjustment of defence strategies and monitoring of facilities are made based on the current data.Al Ansari stressed that the sovereignty of the State of Qatar is non-negotiable, affirming that the sovereign decision regarding its diplomatic relations or hosting any missions or international partners is a purely Qatari decision.Regarding Russia's communication with the State of Qatar to play a mediation role, Al Ansari explained that contacts with the Russian Federation continue at multiple levels, but there is no specific information in this regard, adding that any role that contributes to stopping escalation and ending attacks on Qatari territory is welcomed.With regard to diplomatic coordination, the Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that Qatar maintains almost daily contacts with its regional and international partners to ensure security and stability in the region, affirming that international support and solidarity include defensive contributions and ongoing diplomatic cooperation.He called on the international community to use all its capabilities to ensure the immediate cessation of these attacks, stressing that any attack on civilian infrastructure and the people's right to security and stability will not be accepted and will be responded to accordingly.Regarding diplomatic movement, Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari pointed to the continuation of Qatari diplomatic efforts to follow developments in the region. Qatar has received more than 57 international calls during recent days from leaders and ministers from various countries around the world to express solidarity and follow the situation, focusing on addressing threats resulting from the ongoing Iranian attacks on Qatar and the escalation of tension in the region.He also noted that HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, chaired the delegation of the State of Qatar at the joint summit of the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and a number of sisterly and friendly countries and the European Union via video conference.Participants discussed developments in the military escalation and its serious repercussions on regional and international security and stability, as well as ways for the parties to return to the negotiating table through peaceful means.Qatar's condemnation in the strongest terms of the Iranian attacks on its territory was expressed, while praising the efforts of its armed forces in defending the country, and affirming its full readiness to protect its sovereignty, its people and its vital infrastructure.It also renewed its rejection of attacks on the territories of sisterly and friendly countries and affirmed its full support for these countries in all measures aimed at preserving their sovereignty, security and stability.He praised the statement issued by the European Union, which reflects the strength of relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and calls for stopping escalation and preserving regional security and stability.Al Ansari also noted that HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi chaired the delegation of the State of Qatar last Sunday, at the extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level via video conference.He pointed to the State of Qatar's continued efforts through official statements and diplomatic messages to the United Nations and the international community to condemn the Iranian violations and reject any justifications for them, including the attacks on Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, affirming its commitment to protecting its national sovereignty. 

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) announced that it offers over 160 e-services that enable individuals and companies to conveniently complete environmental transactions without the need to visit the Ministry's headquarters. This is part of its ongoing efforts to develop government services and enhance the digital transformation of their delivery.In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry indicated that its e-services enable beneficiaries to apply for various environmental transactions through MECC's website or the Bee'ah application. This contributes to streamlining procedures, saving time and effort, and allowing completion of transactions from anywhere, 24/7.The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change invited the public to visit its website to learn more about the available services and to obtain further information.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and Sudan in a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a press release today that the call addressed ongoing efforts to advance the implementation of the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan for Gaza, including the deployment of an international stabilization force, support for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, the opening of the Rafah crossing in both directions, and the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.In this regard, Abdelatty stressed the urgent need to launch an early recovery and reconstruction process based on a comprehensive approach that addresses the needs of the population in the Gaza Strip.Regarding developments in Sudan, the Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce and establishing safe humanitarian corridors as a prelude to a comprehensive ceasefire. He also emphasized the importance of launching a comprehensive Sudanese political process.He further reiterated Egypt's firm position on the necessity of respecting Sudan's sovereignty, preserving its unity and territorial integrity, and supporting its national institutions.

Harry Brook has apologised for an altercation in New Zealand during the team’s white-ball tour late last year after a report ‌Thursday said the England batsman was ‌struck by a ‍nightclub bouncer after being denied entry to the venue. The Daily Telegraph report said the incident occurred on October 31, the night before England’s ‍third one-day international against the hosts. England went on to lose the match, ensuring a 3-0 series sweep for New Zealand, with white-ball captain Brook scoring just six runs in the ODI. The news is the latest setback for England’s board (ECB), ‌which is dealing with the fallout from a 4-1 Ashes series defeat in Australia and is looking into reports ‍that players drank excessively during a ‌break between Tests. “I want to apologise for my actions,” said Brook, who was the third-highest scorer during the Ashes series with 358 runs, in statement to British media. “I fully accept that my behaviour was wrong and brought embarrassment to both myself and the England team. “I am determined to learn from this mistake and to rebuild trust through my future actions, both ​on and off ‌the field. I apologise unreservedly and will work hard to ensure this does not happen ‍again.” The ECB said it was aware of the incident and that it had been dealt with through a formal and confidential disciplinary process. “The player involved has apologised and acknowledged their conduct fell below expectations on ​this occasion,” it added in a statement. ECB CEO Richard Gould said the governing body had already begun a “thorough review” of their Ashes campaign, which ended Thursday with defeat in the fifth Test in Sydney. “This will cover tour planning and preparation, individual performance and behaviours, and our ability to adapt and respond effectively as circumstances require,” he added. 

India's space agency launched its heaviest ever payload on Wednesday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling the deployment "a significant stride" for the space sector.The LVM3-M6 rocket launched the US-built AST SpaceMobile communications satellite into low-Earth orbit.The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said it was the "heaviest payload to be launched from Indian soil".The launch is a boost for India's ambitious low-cost space programme, with plans for an uncrewed orbital mission and human spaceflight in the coming years.The satellite, weighing 6,100 kilograms (13,448 pounds), was launched on a modified version of a rocket that India plans to use for its future space missions.India is vying for a larger slice of the booming commercial satellite business as phone, internet and other companies seek expanded and more high-end communications.Modi said the launch marked "a proud milestone in India's space journey"."It strengthens India's heavy-lift launch capability and reinforces our growing role in the global commercial launch market," he said in a statement.Earlier this year, ISRO launched the CMS-03 communication satellite, which weighs about 4,410 kilograms.For these heavy launches, India has deployed an upgraded version of the rocket it used to send an unmanned craft to the Moon in August 2023.The world's most populous nation has flexed its spacefaring ambitions in the last decade with its space programme growing considerably, and rivalling the achievements of established powers at a much cheaper price tag.It has said it plans to launch an uncrewed orbital mission before its first human spaceflight in 2027.Modi has also announced plans to send an astronaut to the Moon by 2040.

The 11th Conference of the State Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption started in Doha Monday morning in the presence of His Excellency the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani. The conference is being attended by a large number of high level dignitaries, distinguished invitees and officials.  Held under the theme 'Shaping Tomorrow's Integrity', the conference will continue until December 19.The conference is the largest and most significant global gathering dedicated to combating corruption and promoting integrity and transparency. It brings together all 192 States Parties to the convention, in addition to over 2,500 participants representing governments, regional and international organisations, anti-corruption experts, as well as representatives of the private sector, civil society and youth.

Qatar National Bank (QNB) discussed the key factors that will support economic growth in the ASEAN-6 economies during 2026 and contribute to a positive growth outlook, including the stabilization of the global trade environment and the decline in the severity of risks associated with trade protectionism, along with the easing of monetary conditions in advanced economies as well as within the ASEAN-6 countries.In recent decades, Southeast Asia has been the most dynamic region in the world, showcasing the brightest economic growth performance, QNB added in its weekly economic commentary.Within this region, the six largest countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN-6), which includes Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, have been among the fastest growing economies, with Singapore already reaching the status of an advanced economy.Trade is a major pillar of the economic growth model for the ASEAN-6 countries, and significant disruptions in international commerce can have a large impact on their performance.Trade and growth forecasts initially deteriorated sharply on fears of the impact of supply-chain disruptions, rocketing uncertainty, and potentially escalating trade wars. But despite a still-uncertain environment, the growth outlook for the ASEAN-6 group has been stable, with real GDP growth rates in 2026 expected to remain overall strong, similar to those of 2025.First, the global trade environment has begun to stabilize, as the U.S. reached agreements with an increasing number of trade partners, and there is no evidence of a negative impact of trade in the ASEAN-6 countries. The initially unyielding protectionism of the U.S. administration shifted towards pragmatism as agreements were reached with the U.K., Japan, and the E.U., among many others.Importantly, for the ASEAN-6, agreements were reached with Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Philippines, establishing a general tariff of 19% and lower rates for selected goods, while for Singapore the levy stands at 10%. Although these rates are higher than before Liberation Day, the end of the negotiations largely reduced the levels of uncertainty discarding the more extreme negative scenarios, and are still within a manageable range, especially as other competitors are also affected by new U.S. tariffs.Even as the U.S. has become more protectionist, the rest of the world is pursuing further integration via new or deeper trade agreements. In October, the ASEAN member states signed two major agreements: one improving cross-border flows within the group, and an upgrade of the ASEAN-China Free Trade framework. At the same time, negotiations began for an ASEAN-South Korea agreement. Furthermore, some ASEAN-6 countries appear to be benefiting from trade diversion as firms shift supply chains away from China.The impact of tariffs after Liberation Day on the ASEAN-6 economies has so far been negligible, with exports continuing to show monthly growth rates in the range of 10 to 20% in USD in annual terms. Even as the world adjusts to a more protectionist U.S., the outlook on global trade is improving, contributing to a more supportive growth scenario for the ASEAN-6 economies.Second, lower policy interest rates in the major advanced economies (AE), as well as in the ASEAN-6 countries, provide a better global environment for economic growth. Since 2024, the U.S. Federal Reserve has already lowered its policy rate by 175 basis points (bp) to 3.75% and is likely to bring it further down to a neutral level of 3.5%. In a similar period, the European Central Bank has lowered its benchmark policy rate by 200 bp to 2% and is likely to keep it unchanged during next year. Thus, policy interest rates in major AE are set to stabilize at lower levels than in recent years, providing better financial conditions for emerging economies.Similarly, central banks in the ASEAN-6 countries have implemented their own monetary easing cycles after inflation was brought under control following the post Covid-pandemic recovery. In these economies, the average increase in policy rates was 260 basis points (bps), to levels above those at the onset of the Covid-pandemic. As tight monetary policy brought inflation rates down to their target ranges, central banks reached a turning point and began to cut policy interest rates, reducing the cost of credit and boosting credit growth. Overall, looser monetary conditions in the AE as well as from the ASEAN-6 central banks provide better credit conditions for growth in the region.All in all, the growth outlook for the ASEAN-6 economies remains stable on the back of an improvement in the trade environment and more supportive monetary.

His Excellency Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie participated on Thursday in the high-level segment of the seventh session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7). The session will be held during the period of Dec. 11-12 at the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya, on the theme 'Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet,' with a wide participation from representatives of countries and international organizations.HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change delivered the State of Qatar's statement before the Assembly, during which he discussed several draft resolutions related to climate change, pollution reduction, waste management, biodiversity protection and the sustainability of natural resources. The medium-term plan of UNEP was adopted.The State of Qatar's participation in UNEA-7 comes within the framework of its keenness to enhance international cooperation in confronting escalating environmental challenges, and to support UN efforts aimed at protecting the environment and achieving sustainable development, as well as to strengthen its effective commitment to multilateral action on global environmental issues.Ministry of Environment and Climate Change indicated that the outcomes of this session should contribute to guiding the course of international environmental action in the coming years, by supporting international partnerships and boosting joint efforts to achieve sustainability and protect ecosystems.
