The organising committee for the 4th GCC Games – Doha 2026, scheduled to take place from 11 to 22 May with the participation of athletes from all six GCC countries, Sunday held its Chef de Mission Meeting.The meeting was attended by Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid al-Thani, Director General of the Organizing Committee, Mohammed al-Subaie, Director of the Sports Department at the GCC General Secretariat, and several heads of key organizing committees.Discussions focused on the latest updates regarding organizational and technical preparations, including the operational plans of relevant committees, readiness of sports venues, competition schedules, and athlete/official accreditation processes.The meeting also reviewed registration procedures, venue allocations, and contingency measures aimed at delivering a seamless experience for all participants. It provided a platform for open dialogue to address any anticipated challenges and strengthen coordination among all stakeholders.On Monday, the participating Chefs de Mission will tour key competition venues to assess their readiness and familiarize themselves with the facilities that will host athletes and delegations during the Games.More than 2,000 athletes will compete across 20 sports: handball, athletics, table tennis, squash, padel, fencing, wrestling, boxing, taekwondo, karate, swimming, billiards & snooker, basketball (5x5 and 3x3), shooting, archery, volleyball, equestrian, and bowling.The competitions will be held at 10 venues across Doha, including Aspire Dome, Qatar Sports Club, Women’s Sports Hall, Lusail Shooting Range, Khalifa Tennis & Squash Complex, Qatar Billiards & Snooker Hall, Al Gharafa SC, Qatar Bowling Federation Hall, Al Arabi SC, and Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club.On the occasion, Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani, Director General of the Organizing Committee, said: “Today’s meeting marks an important milestone in our journey of preparing for this edition of the GCC Games. We take pride in hosting this platform that brings together the people of the GCC in a spirit of unity, brotherhood, and fair competition.”He added: “The Organizing Committee reaffirms its full commitment to delivering the highest technical and organizational standards, in close coordination with all participating delegations. We are keen to listen to your feedback and suggestions, as we firmly believe that the success of these Games depends on our shared collaboration and collective commitment.“We highly value the tremendous efforts you are all making in preparation for this event, and we hope this meeting contributes to addressing all operational aspects to ensure the successful delivery of the Games.”Mohammed Al Subaie, Director of the Sports Department at the GCC General Secretariat, said: “This meeting is a key step in the preparatory process and an important opportunity to exchange ideas and coordinate efforts to ensure the best possible conditions for a successful edition of the Games.”He added: “The GCC Games represent a cornerstone in promoting regional sports cooperation, strengthening the values of brotherhood and fair play, and empowering Gulf youth - aligned with the aspirations of our wise leadership. I wish this meeting every success and look forward to a distinguished and successful edition that reflects the ambitions and capabilities of our nations.” 

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassim Mohammed Al Bedaiwi stressed the importance of evaluating and developing the digital infrastructure of the General Secretariat and its affiliated organizational units, to keep pace with developments in this field.This came during a workshop held by the General Directorate of Digital Transformation and Information Technology, at the headquarters of the GCC General Secretariat, with the participation of the assistant secretaries and heads of organizational units at the General Secretariat.The workshop aimed to review the efforts implemented and discuss the strategic guidelines for the future operational model for digital transformation. This workshop comes in support of decision-making and aligning digital initiatives with the institutional work needs of the GCC General Secretariat. 

Doha will next month host the seventh Gulf Businesswomen Forum, organised by the Federation of the Gulf Cooperation Council Chambers (FGCCC), in association with the Qatar Chamber and supported by the GCC General Secretariat.The forum, to be held under the theme “Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Investment”, will take place from November 12 to 13, 2025, at the Mandarin Oriental – Msheireb, Doha.It aims to promote entrepreneurship and sustainable investment among female business owners in GCC countries by showcasing mechanisms that support their participation in sustainable investment.The forum also seeks to explore ways of transitioning from traditional models to more innovative, digital-based approaches, in line with the Gulf region’s broader shift towards a knowledge economy.Ibtihaj al-Ahmadani, a board member of Qatar Chamber, said the forum aims to economically empower Gulf women and strengthen their contribution to economic development across the GCC countries.She underscored the chamber’s commitment to organising this important forum, given the vital role businesswomen play in driving the Gulf economy, improving the business environment, and broadening horizons for investment and entrepreneurship—aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the sustainable development strategies of the GCC countries.The forum serves as a valuable platform for Gulf businesswomen to exchange experiences and expertise, explore new opportunities for cooperation and partnership, and address the key challenges and prospects within various economic sectors.It also highlights inspiring success stories of female entrepreneurs and the main obstacles they encounter.Saleh bin Hamad al-Sharqi, secretary-general of the FGCCC, said the forum is being held at a significant time, amid a growing regional focus on empowering women and enhancing their role in leading entrepreneurial and investment ventures across the GCC countries.He reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to enhancing the economic role of women, stressing its firm belief that investing in Gulf women is an investment in a sustainable future and a diversified, competitive economy.
