Qatar Foundation (QF)’s Lawh Wa Qalam: M F Husain Museum invites children, families, and schools to experience art beyond observation through guided school tours, hands-on workshops, and immersive learning activities. A new addition to Qatar’s cultural landscape, Lawh Wa Qalam: M F Husain Museum, which opened in November last year, celebrates the life and work of one of modern art’s most influential figures, Maqbool Fida Husain. Located in Education City, Lawh Wa Qalam: M F Husain Museum encourages exploration and exchange through galleries, immersive spaces, and creative programmes, with workshops that launched in December set to run throughout the year. The workshops allow participants to engage with M F Husain’s artworks and put those ideas into practice through drawing, collage, and mixed media activities. “Children especially respond well to identifying colours, shapes, symbols, and cultural references in the artworks,” said Ameera M al-Aji, the community arts lead at QF Communication Initiatives. “It makes them feel confident, observant, and involved,” she said. “The collaborative elements, such as group collages, are particular highlights – helping them express their own memories and identities while working together.” Activities range from guided school tours and panel discussions to hands-on creative practices, including drawing and painting. Additionally, a number of the workshops will be run in collaboration with Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. “The sessions help children make them feel more confident – they’re learning to express themselves, try new materials, and share their thoughts without fear of being wrong,” al-Aji said. “And the mix of guided exploration and creative freedom lets them enjoy the process while still feeling supported.” “Most importantly, the workshops leave participants with a positive emotional experience,” she added. “They walk away feeling proud of what they created, more curious about art, and happy to have shared something meaningful with others.” 

The 14th Qatar Halal Festival concluded Monday, having drawn strong participation from herd and livestock breeders from Qatar and other Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries. The festival, which began on February 11, was held at the southern area of Katara Cultural Village, attracting families, heritage enthusiasts and visitors eager to enjoy activities celebrating the region’s desert and Bedouin traditions, with particular emphasis on improving goat and sheep breeds. Throughout the event, breeders showcased distinguished breeds of sheep and goats in the popular “Mazayen” beauty contests, held daily across various categories. The competitions highlighted the advanced technical standards achieved by local and regional breeders, reflecting years of expertise in selective breeding and animal husbandry. The festival featured dedicated livestock display areas, an auction platform and exhibition spaces where visitors observed rare breeds up close and learned about traditional desert-based husbandry practices that have shaped Bedouin communities for generations. In addition to the livestock competitions, there were a vibrant traditional market offering handicrafts and heritage products, art workshops for children and live cultural performances, including rababa music. Over the years, the Qatar Halal Festival has grown into a key heritage initiative, combining cultural preservation with tangible economic value. 

The Earthna Centre for Sustainable Future (Earthna), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), has come out with a publication aiming to restore respect for nature and ethical values. Semiotics of Nature: Recharging Nature with Meaning for Environmental Ethics and Action by Dr Recep Senturk, the dean of the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU)’s College of Islamic Studies, was launched during a ceremony Monday at the ThinkBay auditorium of the QF’s Education City. “What we are trying to do is to reintroduce an approach to sustainability based on ethics, values and religion,” said Earthna executive director Dr Gonzalo Castro de la Mata. “Most modern attempts to support sustainability are based on cost-benefit analysis and views based on pure economics.” The book launch was attended by officials from Earthna, the HBKU and other organisations. “We believe that it is important to restore the respect for nature, which is again based on values, ethics and religion,” said Dr de la Mata. “That is why we are launching this book.” “We have been working on this book for almost two years,” he continued. “We actually had a workshop with Islamic scholars from all over the world who were able to provide some inputs to the book.” According to Dr Senturk, there are many people who talk about sustainability and environmental ethics but are not very effective in the true spirit. “To make environmentalism and environmental ethics more effective, we need to mobilise religion and traditional values to motivate people to respect nature,” he said. “So this inner transformation requires mobilising religion, spirituality and values.” Dr Senturk pointed out that the world existed for millions of years and there was no environmental problem until the 20th century. “The environmental issues started because of the rise of materialist ideology or the capitalist ideology, which sees nature only as a source of raw materials and tries to exploit it without any limits, without any constraints or without any moral values,” he stated. The official said that the world has to go back to the primordial, original values of all traditions, religions and philosophies and implement them. “I believe that the ethical, religious and spiritual approach to environment and nature will be far more effective compared to materialist approaches,” he said. Dr Senturk was quick to note that the semiotics of nature is based on a multiplex, multi-layered perspective. “I am not rejecting the scientific or technological approach, but I want scientific study, technological production, and consumption to be guided by ethical values,” he clarified. “So, there should be a hierarchy,” Dr Senturk emphasised. “Ethical values should be at the top, not economic interest and maximisation of profit.” A panel discussion was also staged to highlight the ethical practices and considerations needed in the current era. Aside from Dr Senturk, the other panelists were the HBKU Research Centre for Islamic Legislation and Ethics’s associate professor of Methodology and Ethics Dr Mutaz al-Khatib, and Dr Osman Umarji, the director of Global Data Studies at the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research and senior consultant to the QF. 

Qatar Foundation’s (QF) BilAraby participated in panel discussions held on the sidelines of the 2nd UK Universities Arabic Debating Championship, hosted by the University of Oxford from February 7-9 organised by QatarDebate Center in collaboration with the Middle East Centre – St Antony’s College, University of Oxford. BilAraby’s participation aimed to reinforce the role of the Arabic language in discussions on knowledge production and the digital world. This engagement is part of the Initiative’s regional and international outreach, which promotes constructive dialogue, provides dynamic platforms for youth development, and fosters collaborations that inspire positive change. The opening day of the championship featured a panel discussion titled ‘The Arabic Language and Epistemic Justice in the Digital World,’ presented by Thaer Fawaz Farhat, debate specialist at QatarDebate Center. The panel included Dr Laith Alawneh, a speaker at the 2025 BilAraby Gathering, and Maya al-Jaber, a PhD researcher in psychology at the University of Oxford. The session examined the role of the Arabic language in the age of algorithms, including its representation in AI systems and whether it faces bias compared to other languages. It also addressed broader issues such as digital colonialism and the limits of epistemic justice within a landscape shaped by the interests of major corporations, while exploring what is required to build a dynamic Arabic presence that moves beyond consumption to contribute to knowledge production actively. On the second day of the championship, a roundtable was hosted to discuss the Arab world’s role in addressing shared global challenges, including migration, climate change, and food security. The session featured Dr Alawneh and al-Jaber, alongside representatives from BilAraby and QatarDebate Center, as well as several participating debaters. The roundtable further examined migration, sparking a rich discussion that framed the topic as a space where historical memory intersects with future opportunities, and explored how accumulated Arab expertise can be effectively leveraged. Participants agreed on the need to shift prevailing migration narratives that portray Arab migrants as a burden. The panel highlighted this as a significant opportunity for both Western and Arab countries alike, rather than a liability as often suggested. At the championship’s closing ceremony, BilAraby was recognised for its active role throughout the event and for its mission to elevate the Arabic language to the forefront of knowledge-based discussions on international dialogue platforms. 

His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal al-Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, visited the Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition “AgriteQ 2026,” held at the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara, touring the pavilions of participating countries and entities, reviewing the latest solutions, technologies, and innovations in the fields of sustainable agriculture and food production. He also examined projects and initiatives aimed at developing the agricultural sector, enhancing its efficiency and sustainability, supporting self-sufficiency, and advancing sustainable development. 

Ons Jabeur, the Tunisian tennis player and two-time Wimbledon runner-up, has joined Qatar Foundation (QF) as the international ambassador of its Creating Pathways programme, with tennis introduced as the initiative’s final sport.Tennis joins track and field, basketball, volleyball, and fencing in the Creating Pathways programme, which was launched as part of QF’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 legacy plans. The five-sport programme aims to expand opportunities for women and girls, develop local athletic talent, and create sustainable pathways from grassroots participation to high-performance sport. A key component of this programme is identifying role models for young girls from Qatar and the region to relate and look up to.Jabeur is the first Arab and African woman to reach a Grand Slam singles final and the highest-ranked Arab and African player in history. Her success has inspired millions, broken barriers, and expanded what young people – especially girls – believe is possible. Beyond the court, she is a powerful advocate for women in sport and for humanitarian causes.Speaking about why she joined QF’s Creating Pathways programme, Jabeur said: “I was inspired by the programme’s focus on empowering young people, especially girls, and creating real opportunities through sport and education. It reflects my own journey and values, and being part of it allows me to give back in a meaningful way.“I hope girls see that sport can build confidence, discipline, and belief in themselves. Through tennis, they can discover their potential and feel empowered to dream big on the court and beyond. I want to help create a future where girls have equal opportunities, feel confident and supported, and are free to dream big, both in sport and in life, knowing they truly belong.”The programme is open to girls aged under 16, and in addition to on-court development, it takes a holistic approach, educating young people on the importance of regular exercise, proper nutrition and overall wellbeing.“Inspirational sporting figures like Ons Jabeur epitomise what it means, and what it takes, to be a champion in both sport and life,” said Alanoud al-Mesnad, executive director, Women’s and Girls’ Sports, QF. “The stories and successes of Ons and all our program ambassadors educate, motivate, and energise our Creating Pathways participants as they pursue their goals of reaching sport’s elite level.”During this week’s National Sport Day, Jabeur led several activations at Education City celebrating sport, as part of QF’s contribution to the nationwide showcase of the benefit of sporting participation and active, healthy living. 

Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, has reached a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey, with formal validation of achieving Stage 6 in both HIMSS EMRAM and HIMSS DIAM.The assessments by HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) reviewers, positions Sidra Medicine as the first hospital in Qatar to attain EMRAM Stage 6, and the only organisation in the Middle East and Europe to be validated at DIAM Stage 6. It is also the second organisation across the region to reach this level of digital imaging maturity.Maha al-Henzab, executive director, Information Management & Technology at Sidra Medicine said: “This validation reflects the dedication and collaboration of our clinical, technical, and operational teams. I am very proud of our collective expertise and efforts. Reaching EMRAM and DIAM Stage 6 strengthens our ability to deliver safe, efficient, and digitally enabled care, while laying a strong foundation for our continued progress toward Stage 7.”HIMSS EMRAM (Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model) measures how effectively hospitals use electronic medical records to support clinical care, patient safety, and efficient workflows. Reaching Stage 6 reflects advanced use of digital systems, including electronic physician documentation, closed-loop medication administration, and clinical decision support across inpatient and outpatient services.HIMSS DIAM (Digital Imaging Adoption Model) assesses how diagnostic and enterprise imaging are used to improve quality, consistency, and operational performance. Stage 6 recognises organisations that are using imaging data in advanced, integrated ways to support clinical decision-making and continuous improvement.As part of the assessment conducted from December 15 to 16, 2025, the reviewers evaluated end-to-end inpatient and outpatient workflows, laboratory and pharmacy processes, closed-loop systems, and complete diagnostic imaging pathways across departments. The assessment also highlighted Sidra Medicine’s use of AI-enabled imaging and 3D printing to support clinical innovation.

An international award recognising those at the forefront of promoting, protecting, and strengthening the role of the family has been presented to Dr Sharifa Noaman al-Emadi, the executive director of Doha International Family Institute,(DIFI), a member of Qatar Foundation.She received the “Stand with the Family Award” from Family Watch International in recognition of her leadership and international advocacy efforts, and those of the DIFI, in placing the family at the heart of societal development, advocating for family-centred policies, and promoting family wellbeing and cohesion.The award reflects the DIFI’s leading national and international role in integrating scientific evidence into policymaking and advocacy concerning families, its success in forging collaborations that support families across the Arab-Islamic world, and its contribution to positioning Qatar as an exemplar of how governmental and non-governmental organisations can intertwine on the development of family policy.It was presented to Dr al-Emadi during Family Watch International’s 15th Global Family Policy Forum, held under the theme *Protecting Women and Children by Strengthening the Family in Phoenix, US.The DIFI – which has special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council – conducts family research, policy, outreach, and advocacy nationally, regionally, and globally, with the goal of being an international knowledge leader on issues facing the Arab family.
