Ten-man Tottenham salvaged a 1-1 against fellow strugglers Manchester United thanks to Dominic Solanke's last-gasp leveller, while Arsenal got back on track as the champions survived a scare to beat Leeds 2-1 on Saturday.In a clash dubbed 'El Sackicko' given the scrutiny on both managers, Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead in the 73rd minute at Old Trafford. Mbeumo punished sloppy Tottenham marking to fire home from an acute angle after Matheus Cunha's pass picked him out in the penalty area.Tottenham looked doomed when Uruguay midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for headbutting United defender Luke Shaw in a brawl five minutes after United's opener. But Solanke came to Tottenham's rescue in the final moments when he evaded United defender Lisandro Martinez to head in Sandro Tonali's cross.It was a dramatic finale to a scrappy encounter in keeping with the problems gripping two underachieving teams. Tottenham sit third bottom of the table and remain winless after losing three of their first six league games.United are languishing in 12th place with only one league so far this season. Roberto De Zerbi saved Tottenham from relegation on the final day of last term after taking charge late in the campaign.But despite spending over £300mn ($429mn) on new signings in the close-season, his men look no better this season. United were more conservative in the transfer market as they looked to build on last season's impressive third-place finish.That decision looks to have backfired as Carrick struggles to get the best out of an inconsistent squad. After a shock 3-0 defeat at Brighton before the three-week international break, Arsenal were in danger of a second successive loss when they fell behind at the Emirates Stadium.James Justin fired Leeds ahead in the 55th minute after Arsenal failed to clear Gabriel Gudmundsson's cross. But Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori found the cure when he converted Ben White's header from close-range in the 62nd minute.Arsenal showcased their strength in depth as substitute Bruno Guimaraes drilled the winner from the edge of the area just six minutes after coming on. Guimaraes' first goal at the Emirates since his close-season move from Newcastle made it five wins from six league matches for the Gunners.The north London club sit in second place behind crisis-hit Manchester City on goal difference. City travel to Liverpool on Sunday for their first match since being found guilty of more than 100 breaches of Premier League financial rules."We weren't pleased against Brighton and today was an opportunity to put that right. We certainly reacted in the manner we expected," Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said.At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea's blistering start paved the way for a 5-1 rout of Bournemouth as the Blues won for the first time in four league matches. Jordan Henderson gave Xabi Alonso's team the perfect start when the veteran midfielder curled home after just 68 seconds to claim his first goal for Chelsea.The Blues struck again in the third minute as Morgan Rogers's drive deflected into the net off Bournemouth defender Antonio Silva. Chelsea were on target just one minute after the interval through Joao Pedro's clinical finish from Pedro Neto's pass.Evanilson got one back for Bournemouth in the 51st minute, deflecting in Moises Caicedo's miscued clearance as Chelsea's run without a league clean sheet extended to 22 matches. But Joao Pedro put the result beyond doubt, poking in from close-range in the 67th minute for his fifth goal this season.England midfielder Henderson, 36, bagged his second in the 70th minute with a fierce free-kick, taking free-scoring Chelsea to 23 goals in just eight games in all competitions this term."We signed him for everything and if he is able to score two beauties like today we are more than happy for him," Alonso said. Aston Villa's troubled start continued with a disappointing 2-2 home draw against fourth-placed Brentford. Ipswich beat winless Fulham 2-1 at Portman Road, while ten-man Brighton won 2-0 at Sunderland to cement their hold on third place. 

Erling Haaland fired 10-man Manchester City to a memorable 1-0 victory over Manchester United despite Phil Foden's first-half red card to extend a perfect start to Enzo Maresca's reign.Foden kicked out at United captain Bruno Fernandes on 23 minutes to give the visitors a mountain to climb. But a new-look City were up to the challenge as the near £250mn ($340mn) midfield pairing of Elliot Anderson and Enzo Fernandez proved their worth.Haaland's winner was laced with controversy as Fernandez was deemed not to be interfering with play when he attempted to head in before the ball reached the Norwegian."It's worrying, if that's really how it is, if that's how the game is seen by those who are officiating it," said United boss Michael Carrick. "I just don't get it, I really don't get it, I can't understand them."Defeat compounds a miserable Premier League start for United as they are already eight points adrift of City and defending champions Arsenal. By contrast, victory was a huge statement for Maresca to quell fears of a major drop-off from City following Pep Guardiola's trophy-laden decade in charge."It's a kind of new experience to win with 10 men. It's amazing, I have to be honest," said Haaland.The visitors had made the better start in the opening quarter but looked to have been completely undone by Foden's ill discipline. City will argue that Fernandes should also have seen red as he fouled Foden and then seemed to kick him in the back.But there was little case for Foden's defence as he retaliated by throwing both legs up into Fernandes's midriff. "I think Foden's red card is a red card, but I also think that in the same action it's a red card for them," said Maresca.Marcus Rashford was inches away from his first United goal since December 2024 when his free-kick came crashing back off the post with the home side's best effort before the break. The woodwork came to City's rescue again just after half-time when Kobbie Mainoo curled onto the post from distance and the ball rebounded kindly into Gianluigi Donnarumma's grasp. But the City sucker punch arrived on the hour mark.Haaland adjusted his body brilliantly to sweep in Josko Gvardiol's deflected cross. A VAR review deemed Haaland was onside and that Fernandez was not interfering as he stooped to try and head in himself. City came close to landing the telling blow when Fernandez's effort was turned onto the post by Senne Lammens. Haaland also should have had a second when he got onto Fernandez's wicked low free-kick delivery.City, though, were not made to pay for failing to add a second as United lacked the composure and quality to make the man advantage count until the final minute of stoppage time. Fernandes's reverse ball perfectly picked out Bryan Mbeumo but he was denied by a fine save from Donnarumma. Maresca scampered down the touchline in delight at full-time.After a battle for the title went down to the final week of last season, Arsenal and City look a class apart from the competition once more. Both are locked on 12 points with Chelsea, Liverpool and United already cut adrift. Brighton run rampant against 10-man CoventryMeanwhile, Brighton thrashed 10-man Coventry 5-0 to move into fourth place and leave Frank Lampard's side rooted to the bottom of the table. Charalampos Kostoulas put Brighton ahead in the first half and Malick Yalcouye doubled their lead soon after the interval. Coventry striker Taiwo Awoniyi was sent off for violent conduct in the second half.Pascal Gross netted from the penalty spot and Lewis Dunk curled home from long range. Yasin Ayari wrapped up Brighton's emphatic victory as Coventry's frustrated fans flooded to the exits well before the final whistle.Coventry are still looking for their first Premier League goal since 2001 after going scoreless while losing their first four top-flight matches this season. Lampard's men are the only Premier League team without a point this season. The Sky Blues were promoted from the Championship last season to end their 25-year exile from the Premier League. 

Premier League clubs shattered their record of £3.1bn ($4.2bn) in transfer fees in one window on deadline day as Manchester City closed in on a £125mn deal for Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez and signed Iliman Ndiaye. City spearheaded a frantic final day of spending as they aim to arm Enzo Maresca with a squad capable of winning the Premier League for the first time in three seasons.Fernandez, who previously thrived under Maresca at Chelsea, has been linked with a move to the Etihad for months. But it took until the final hours before the 2200 GMT deadline for an agreement to be reportedly struck with the fee for the Argentine set to match the British transfer record that Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak on the final day of the window last year.Fernandez will form a completely revamped City midfield alongside England international Elliot Anderson and Moroccan Ayyoub Bouaddi, who themselves cost over a combined £200mn. City also added Senegal forward Ndiaye from Everton in a deal worth £65mn to bolster their forward options."I've worked my whole life for an opportunity like this," said Ndiaye. "To be able to write my own chapter in a story that special is the chance of a lifetime and I'm determined to grab it with both hands."Chelsea are aiming to replace Fernandez with Monaco's Lamine Camara. The Blues also agreed a £40mn deal to sign 18-year-old Honest Ahanor from Atalanta from 2027, with the Italy defender spending this season on loan at Crystal Palace.Champions Arsenal, by contrast, had a quiet deadline day after their pursuit of Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez fizzled out. The Gunners had been rivalling Barcelona for the Argentine's signature, but the Spanish champions instead turned to Arsenal to fill their need for a forward with the signing of Gabriel Jesus. "I had a chance 10 years ago and life took me in another direction, but now I can be here and it's a dream for me," said Jesus. Liverpool splashed out on France forward Bradley Barcola on Monday, spending £123mn to lure him from Paris Saint-Germain. But the Reds attempts to further add to their squad look to have been frustrated with bids for Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr and Brighton's Yankuba Minteh knocked back, meaning Cody Gakpo is set to stay despite interest from City and Tottenham.Liverpool did complete the signing of Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, but the 18-year-old will be loaned back to Genk for the rest of the season. Ibrahim Mbaye was another wide player linked with a move to Anfield, but he has instead joined Aston Villa for a reported £47mn.Mbaye played 31 times in all competitions for PSG last season as the French club won the Champions League and the Ligue 1 title. Villa also bolstered their defence by signing Southampton centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis in a £29mn deal.Tottenham are keen on a loan move for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk after missing out on Ndiaye and Gakpo, with a £7mn swoop for his Blues team-mate Tosin Adarabioyo also lined up by the north Londoners. Spurs have also loaned Pape Matar Sarr on a one-year deal to Juventus with an obligation to buy for a fee of 27.5mn euros ($31.9mn), should Sarr fulfil certain conditions.City winger Jack Grealish is set to rejoin Everton on loan after his spell with David Moyes's men last season. But Everton's pursuit of United States international Folarin Balogun is at risk of collapsing over reports the Monaco forward has failed a medical.Newcastle landed Belgium forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille in a £51mn swoop. The Magpies, who are rebuilding following the close-season departures of Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, have also sent German striker Nicolas Woltemade on loan to Juventus. 

Arsenal extended their flawless start to the Premier League season as Bukayo Saka sealed the champions' 1-0 win against troubled Aston Villa.Saka's second-half strike at Villa Park wrapped up Arsenal's second successive victory. In a statement of intent to their title rivals, Mikel Arteta's side have taken maximum points from their opening two games without conceding a goal.It was the ideal way for Arteta to mark his 250th league game in charge of the Gunners. Arteta had picked the same starting line-up that cruised to a 3-0 win against Coventry in their season opener 10 days earlier.Saka was on the scoresheet in that victory and once again the England winger delivered a valuable contribution. Underlining the quality at Arteta's disposal, England centre-back Ezri Konsa came off the bench in the closing stages for his Arsenal debut against his former club after leaving Villa in a £51mn ($69mn) move on August 21.Arsenal will face the first serious test of their ability to retain the title on Sunday when they host London rivals Chelsea, who have also won their first two matches. By then, Arsenal could be bolstered by another new arrival as they continue to track unsettled Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez ahead of today's transfer deadline.The only concern for Arteta was a potential injury that forced Declan Rice to limp off in the closing stages. For Villa, the feeling of frustration is growing after a second consecutive defeat. Unai Emery's team slumped to a 4-0 loss at Brighton in their opener in the midst of the club's astonishing summer sale.Motivated in part by the need to keep in line with Premier League financial rules, Villa have ripped apart their Europa League-winning squad, selling Konsa, Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Martinez, Lucas Digne and Youri Tielemans.Villa look a shadow of the vibrant team that ended their 30-year trophy drought last term, leaving Emery with a daunting job on his hands.In keeping with the sense of a club under renovation, one end of Villa Park was closed to fans on Monday due to building work to increase the capacity.Nicolas Jackson made his Villa debut after arriving from Chelsea as Watkins's replacement in attack, while Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, a recent signing from Parma, was given his maiden appearance. Villa winger Emiliano Buendia lashed a fierce strike against the crossbar in a rocky start for Arsenal.The Gunners eventually recovered their composure and Villa defender Pau Torres was forced to make a superb block to stop Christos Tzolis tapping in Saka's cross. Arsenal appealed in vain for a penalty when Riccardo Calafiori tumbled under contact from Torres late in the first half.After his side showed a distinct lack of cutting edge in the opening period, Arteta replaced Tzolis with Eberechi Eze at the interval.The change made an impact and Victor Lindelof needed to make a last-ditch intervention to stop Kai Havertz converting Rice's pass.Martin Odegaard curled a free-kick inches wide after VAR overturned the initial decision to award a penalty for Ian Maatsen's barge on Saka because the foul took place just outside the area.It was only a temporary reprieve for Villa as Saka broke the deadlock at the climax of a perfectly constructed raid in the 59th minute. Eze's pass picked out Calafiori's run into the Villa area and the defender's low cross was poked in by Saka from close range.Havertz's blast was saved by Suzuki before Konsa made his debut to a mix of boos and applause from conflicted Villa fans. With Konsa helping to shutdown Villa's forwards, Arsenal were able to wrap up a gritty success. 

France winger Bradley Barcola has become Liverpool's second-most expensive signing after joining the Premier League giants from Paris Saint-Germain on Monday. A source close to PSG told AFP that Barcola's transfer is worth "125mn euros (£107mn, $145mn) plus 20 million euros in easily achievable bonuses".The total fee of £124 million is second only to the £125 million Liverpool paid Newcastle for Sweden star Alexander Isak.Barcola's fee is the highest ever paid for a Ligue 1 player. It is also the 10th £100mn-plus transfer in Premier League history and the fourth such deal completed this summer.The 23-year-old is the third forward costing over £100mn that Liverpool have signed in two years. Isak arrived at Anfield last year and Liverpool also paid around £100mn to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. Neither player has yet lived up to the hefty price tag, although Isak missed much of last season due to injury.Barcola, who signed what Liverpool said was a "long-term deal", had yet to play for PSG this season amid the transfer speculation. "It's a great pride to be able to play for Liverpool. I'm very happy," he told his new club's website on Monday."It took a long time but I'm really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool and all I want is to be on the pitch and be able to play. I hope to achieve very big things. First of all, winning the Premier League - it's one of my biggest dreams in my life. It is to do that and to stay in this team in the long term - that's why I signed a long contract - and I hope I can do it."Barcola, a member of the PSG squad which won back-to-back Champions League titles in the past two seasons, has long been a Liverpool target. He scored 39 goals in 152 appearances and won three successive Ligue 1 titles during his time in the French capital after joining PSG from domestic rivals Lyon in a £38.6mn deal in 2023.Barcola also scored three goals for France during their run to the semi-finals at the recent World Cup. Rebuilding the attackLiverpool have been looking to strengthen in wide areas since the departure of Mohamed Salah at the end of last season. Luis Diaz's departure the season before left Liverpool's forwards without service from the wings. They have already signed Spain World Cup-winning winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna in the current transfer window and he has made a bright start, scoring the equaliser in Liverpool's 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, which followed the same scoreline in their Premier League opener at Newcastle on August 23.Barcola is expected to play on the left wing, with Cody Gakpo pushed down the pecking order and linked with a move to Manchester City. Barcola's arrival at Anfield sees him reunited with former PSG team-mate and current fellow France international Hugo Ekitike, who is recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon. "I don't know Jeremy (Jacquet), but I was able to talk to Hugo, who I met in the French team and in my old club," said Barcola. "He was waiting for me to sign the contract, sending me messages often asking me if I was coming or not."I can't wait to get back together and be able to play with him. I already said (told him) that it is done." Barcola was not always first-choice at PSG, with Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue providing stiff competition for places, but he still played a key part in their Champions League triumphs. 

Andoni Iraola escaped defeat on his Anfield debut as Liverpool manager thanks to Victor Munoz's strike that salvaged a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest. Forest were set to win at Anfield for the third consecutive season on Saturday as Dan Ndoye and Morgan Gibbs-White's penalty twice put the visitors in front.Alexander Isak briefly brought Liverpool level in the second half before Munoz's deflected effort rescued a late point for the second time in Iraola's two matches in charge. "It's quite clear the first half has been poor, we haven't controlled the game," said Iraola. "We improved a lot in the second half, much more intense, much quicker on the ball but not enough to win the game."Liverpool will hope to have Bradley Barcola to unleash by the time they are next in action at Ipswich on Friday. The French winger has been one of the Reds' top targets for months and a £106 million ($144 million) deal with Paris Saint-Germain, which could rise by a further £17 million, is reportedly close to completion.Iraola said he was hoping for a special day to mark his first match in charge at the club's iconic home, but instead got a reminder of why he was given the chance to replace the sacked Arne Slot. The Dutchman led Liverpool to a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title in the 2024/25 campaign but was dismissed after finishing fifth last season.A record £450 million outlay on new signings 12 months ago continues to bear little return on investment as full-backs Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong were subbed off, while Isak and Florian Wirtz again struggled to make the impact expected for enormous transfer fees.And Liverpool remain brittle at the back as a Forest side that failed to score in their opening two games under Oliver Glasner created an abundance of chances. "There are two emotions I think," said Glasner. "Very proud of the performance and how we played, scoring two goals, but we all feel frustrated about the result because we have the feeling it could and should have been a win."Jeremy Jacquet had to produce a brilliant last-ditch block to deny Igor Jesus, and Ndoye headed narrowly wide before Forest took the lead on 24 minutes. Liverpool were a shambles at the back as a long punt forward saw Jesus bear down on goal. He was eventually dispossessed, but Gibbs-White teed up Ndoye to find the far corner.In keeping with his Liverpool career to date, Wirtz showed flashes of brilliance without stamping his authority on the game. The German playmaker was denied an equaliser when his goal was ruled out for offside against Frimpong in the build-up. At the other end a vital save from Alisson denied Ndoye a second in first-half stoppage time.Barcola's impending arrival could spell the end of Cody Gakpo's time at Anfield with Tottenham and Manchester City interested in the Dutch international. But Gakpo has been Liverpool's most effective forward in the opening two games of the season.His inch-perfect cross left Isak with a simple task of tapping home for the equaliser on the hour mark. Yet just as the home side were beginning the build momentum, they were struck by a sucker punch. Forest's new signing Liam Delap's quickly taken throw-in caught the Liverpool defence sleeping and Neco Williams was wiped out by Alisson as the goalkeeper raced off his line.Gibbs-White coolly sent the Brazilian number one the wrong way from the penalty spot to restore Forest's lead. Iraola emptied his bench to find a response and the decision to sacrifice Gakpo instead of Munoz paid off. Wirtz thread the eye of a needle with a through ball for the Spanish international, who blasted in off the crossbar for his first goal since joining from Osasuna. 

Enzo Maresca made a dramatic start to Manchester City's post-Pep Guardiola era with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Bournemouth, while Andoni Iraola escaped with a 2-2 draw at Newcastle in his first game as Liverpool boss.On a day when two of the Premier League's biggest club began new eras, it was Maresca that finished happier, although neither manager could be completely satisfied after a pair of inconsistent performances. At the Etihad Stadium, Marcus Tavernier's first half goal put Bournemouth ahead before Maresca's side staged a pulsating fightback in the final minutes.Inspired by Maresca's decision to send on French playmaker Rayan Cherki, who provided the assists for both goals, Marc Guehi headed City's equaliser with six minutes left before Josko Gvardiol stroked in the stoppage-time winner.Guardiola won 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles, during a glorious decade with City. His reign started with a late win at home to Sunderland in 2016 and Maresca will hope his own narrow victory serves as the prelude to an equally successful spell.City's lacklustre 3-0 defeat against Arsenal in last weekend's Community Shield raised questions about their ability to keep pace with the Premier League champions this season. For much of their top-flight opener, City were again short of inspiration in attack and cohesion at the back. But they found a way to dig out a result that allowed Maresca to breath a sigh of relief."The impact was unbelievable, he is that kind of player," Maresca said. "I like Rayan, I told him also after the game, but sometimes when you plan a game and you already have (picked) four out of 11 players who arrived late (from holidays), if you go with one more maybe the difference is too big."Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai scored a penalty with the last kick of the game to save Iraola from a debut defeat at St James' Park. Iraola is the figurehead of Liverpool's overhaul after Arne Slot's close-season sacking, Mohamed Salah's departure to Trabzonspor and the eye-catching investment by a consortium fronted by billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.Liverpool's first steps into the future were uncomfortable, with Newcastle exposing the defensive flaws that proved fatal for Slot last season. Anthony Elanga put Newcastle ahead in the first half before Cody Gakpo equalised soon after the interval.Joe Willock's first Premier League goal since 2024 restored Newcastle's advantage, but Szoboszlai held his nerve to net with a stoppage-time penalty after Lewis Hall fouled Victor Munoz.It was a mixed start for Iraola, who can take heart from his team's refusal to accept defeat, but will be concerned by their unconvincing display.Jack Hinshelwood struck twice in the space of two minutes as Brighton exploited Aston Villa's star exodus with a 4-0 demolition of the Europa League winners. Villa arrived at the Amex Stadium having sold a host of players since last season, leaving them without a recognised striker amid transfer speculation surrounding Ollie Watkins.Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and England forward Watkins were missing from Villa's squad amid reports they will join Ezri Konsa, Youri Tielemans, Lucas Digne and Morgan Rogers through the exit door.Victor Lindelof's calamitous own goal and a close-range finish from Maxim De Cuyper set the Seagulls on course for a resounding win.Hinshelwood's quickfire double took the game away from Unai Emery's shell-shocked side before Villa midfielder Joao Gomes was sent off on his league debut just before half-time.

Newcastle have appointed Matthias Jaissle as their new head coach following Eddie Howe's departure, the English Premier League club announced.The 38-year-old Jaissle, a former Germany Under-21 international, was previously in charge of Saudi side Al-Ahli but has no prior experience of managing a top-flight club."It is an incredible honour to become head coach of Newcastle United," said Jaissle. "This is one of the biggest clubs in European football, with a unique history, identity and supporter base, and I am excited to experience that passion and connection first-hand. When Newcastle United comes your way, you take notice. The ambition of the club, the vision for the future and the opportunity ahead made this an incredibly compelling place to be. I have followed the club's journey closely in recent years and the progress that has been made is clear for everyone to see."Jaissle was forced to end his playing career due to injury at the age of 25. His first managerial job came with Austrian side Liefering, whom he led to a second-placed finish in the second tier, the club's joint best-ever position.Jaissle took charge at Red Bull Salzburg in 2021, winning successive Austrian titles as well as the Austrian Cup. Jaissle joined Al-Ahli in 2023 and led them to AFC Champions League titles in 2025 and 2026.Although not a high-profile manager, he is well-known to Newcastle's majority owner, the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, which bought a controlling share in four Pro League clubs, including Al Ahli, in 2023.Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson said: "Matthias is one of the most exciting and highly regarded young coaches in football and I'm thrilled to welcome him to Newcastle United. We have conducted a thorough process, and he has emerged as the clear candidate for the role. He possesses all the qualities we were looking for."Jaissle has a tough task ahead of him given the way Howe, in his five years at Newcastle, revitalised a club that had struggled for decades.Howe replaced Steve Bruce in November 2021 and won the League Cup in March 2025 -- beating Liverpool in the final to clinch the northeast side's first major trophy since 1969.The former Bournemouth boss also led Newcastle to Champions League qualification in 2023 and 2025. But hampered by star striker Alexander Isak's protracted move to Liverpool, the Englishman came under pressure as the Magpies finished 12th in the Premier League last season, with 17 defeats in their 38 games.Newcastle reached the Champions League last 16 but were hammered 8-3 on aggregate by Barcelona. The club have since been depleted by the close-season departures of Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and England forward Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, with Howe reportedly frustrated at losing several of his best players in order that Newcastle could comply with Premier League profit and sustainability rules.Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes is also set to leave St James' Park after reports earlier Wednesday that Premier League champions Arsenal had agreed a £75mn ($101mn) deal to sign the Brazil midfielder.The Magpies begin the 2026/27 Premier League season at home to Liverpool on August 23, with an upbeat Jaissle insisting: "I am incredibly excited about the future. I fully and unreservedly believe in this project, the ambition and the direction the club is taking. There is a clear vision, strong leadership and an exceptional platform to build on." 

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso said on Tuesday "no decision" had been made on Mykhailo Mudryk's future but added the winger could play in pre-season after returning from a doping ban.Ukrainian international Mudryk was suspended for four years after failing a 2024 drug test, but has won an appeal and was permitted on Friday to resume his football career.The 25-year-old has not played since November 2024 and there have been rumours that Chelsea could sanction a loan move to bring him up to speed, or even a permanent transfer.Asked about those possibilities in Hong Kong on Tuesday ahead of his side's friendly against Juventus, Alonso said: "No decision made."Everything has happened so quick, so the main thing is that we were thinking about the person, to feel that he was back in the group dynamic, part of the team."And we need to assess, but for sure... it is a special case with him, so we need to be sensitive."Mudryk's ban came after testing positive for a low concentration of the prohibited substance meldonium.He filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and rule changes in the interim mean that if his test produced the same result now, he would not have faced charges.Asked if Mudryk could play in Wednesday's game against Juventus, Alonso answered in the affirmative."Yesterday was more about the feelings, about the emotions to be back with the team, more than to assess the fitness level," the Spaniard said."But yes, he could play. Maybe 90 minutes (is) too early. But he can be selected."Mudryk took part in an open training session at Hong Kong's Kai Tak Stadium on Tuesday evening, drawing a loud cheer from fans when he found the net in a drill.Alonso said he was also "looking forward to welcoming" Jordan Henderson after the England midfielder signed from Premier League rivals Brentford on Monday.However, "we need to assess because of the injury he had, how long it will take to be fit".Henderson broke his arm in a freak injury sustained while celebrating England's win over Mexico at the World Cup.The 36-year-old has followed international teammate Danny Welbeck, 35, to Stamford Bridge, in a shift from the Blues' long-held strategy of snapping up younger talent on lengthy contracts.Juventus are looking to improve on last season's disappointing sixth-placed finish in Serie A and announced the signing of Bosnian teenager Kerim Alajbegovic on Sunday alongside the return of French striker Randal Kolo Muani to the club."To have new players in our team, we are very (happy) about them. We have needed them for a long time," manager Luciano Spalletti told a news conference on Tuesday."We know they are strong, and we just need to make them settle," he said through an interpreter.Chelsea's pre-season tour so far has comprised two friendlies in Australia - a see-saw 6-4 win over Western Sydney Wanderers and a 2-1 defeat to London rivals Tottenham.After Juventus, they play Italian giants AC Milan in Jakarta and Johor Darul Ta'zim in Malaysia before heading home for a final warm-up against Spain's Real Sociedad.They face Fulham at Craven Cottage in their opening league game on August 24.Juventus travel to Australia for friendlies against fellow Italians Inter Milan and Palermo before kicking off the Serie A season with a trip to Frosinone on August 23.
