His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani held talks Monday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, using a call from Tehran to reinforce Doha's consistent diplomatic message: the ceasefire must hold, dialogue must prevail, and global shipping lanes must remain open.The call is the latest in a series of high-level contacts Qatar has maintained with all parties to the conflict as part of its active mediation posture. Qatar has backed Pakistan's efforts to broker the first direct, high-level talks between the United States and Iran in nearly five decades held in Islamabad on Friday and Saturday.Qatar's support for those Islamabad talks underscored its role as a trusted facilitator, maintaining open channels with Washington, Tehran and regional capitals simultaneously throughout the crisis.In the conversation with Araghchi, the prime minister stressed the importance of all parties responding constructively to ongoing mediation efforts, and called for dialogue and peaceful means to address the underlying causes of the conflict — with the goal of reaching a durable agreement that forecloses the risk of renewed escalation.He also delivered a firm message on maritime security, warning against any use of shipping routes as leverage. The prime minister cautioned that disruption to these lanes would carry serious consequences not only for Gulf states but for global energy and food supplies, with far-reaching implications for international peace and security — a concern Qatar has raised consistently given its position as one of the world's leading LNG exporters.The call reflects Doha's broader diplomatic doctrine: sustained, principled engagement with all sides.
