The ninth edition of the Hathab Qatar Equestrian Tour resumed Thursday with the tenth round of the championship at the Qatar Equestrian Federation’s main arena. The Tour paused for the prestigious Doha Equestrian Tour, which wrapped up over the weekend. The three-day event features 14 rounds and saw over 65 riders competing in both the Amateur and Silver Tours.**media[433899]**The Silver Tour, contested at 130 cm, produced an exciting contest as Saudi rider Khaled al-Hadi claimed first and third place on Carlton de Sauvageonn (55.89 seconds) and Capoen (57.48). His compatriot Abdullah al-Sharbatly finished second on Inturido in 56.29 seconds. Awards were presented by Mohammed Saleh al-Marri, Head of the Championship’s Facilities and Logistics Committee. Meanwhile, Qatar’s Sultan Jassim al-Suwaidi won the Amateur Tour at 100cm on Cat Ballou 27 in 26.79 seconds. Faisal Mohammed al-Nuaimi was second on Dilandra (28.27) and Salha Khalid al-Obaidli third on Roxette van de Achterhoek (28.38). The event is organised by the Qatar Equestrian Federation in partnership with Al Shaqab.

The Doha Equestrian Tour wrapped up its three-day local show jumping competitions at the Longines Arena in Al Shaqab on Saturday night, showcasing top-level performances from more than 120 riders and 240 horses. Total prize money for the tour exceeded QR490,000.**media[426346]**The tour opened with the Small Tour at a height of 110 cm, where Saudi Arabia’s Khalid al-Hadi claimed first place on Carlton in 22.74 seconds. Qatar’s Hadi Mansour al-Shahwani finished second on Monopoly in 23.99 seconds, while American Christine Vanderveen took third on Carniol in 24.22 seconds. Winners were presented their awards by Abdullah al-Qashouti, Marketing and Communications Manager for the tournament.**media[426345]**In the Silver Round at 130 cm, Kuwait’s Anaz al-Anaz topped the leaderboard with a time of 52.05 seconds on De Leones. Vanderveen placed second on Ranz Marie (53.51 seconds) and Saudi rider Abdullah al-Sharbatly finished third on Dantorido (53.98 seconds). Awards were presented by Salmeen al-Suwaidi, tournament sports director.Day two began with the Bronze Round at 120 cm, where al-Hadi again finished first on Carlton (23.14 seconds), Vanderveen was second on Liones (24.03 seconds), and al-Shahwani third on Monopoly (24.27 seconds). Mohammed al-Suwaidi, stables manager for the championship, crowned the winners.The Gold Round at 140 cm saw Saudi rider Abdullah al-Sharbatly win on Fiumicino in 30.84 seconds. Syrian rider Mohammed Mughith came second on Jaguar (31.08 seconds) and Kuwaiti Anaz al-Anaz was third on De Lions (31.55 seconds). Winners were presented by Abdulrahman al-Khayarin, deputy facilities manager.The final Diamond League competition 150 cm with a jump-off, was won by Austrian Geoffrey Backe on Equitron in 30.54 seconds. Al-Sharbatly took second on Valentino (31.2 seconds), and Vanderveen finished third on Starbucks (31.68 seconds). All three completed the course without faults. Awards were presented by Sheikh Talal bin Khalid al-Thani, assistant tournament director.In a statement, Sheikh Talal said the local competitions are an integral part of the Doha Equestrian Tour, providing riders with opportunities to maintain competitive readiness and continue training in a professional environment ahead of international events. He emphasised that prize money is designed to motivate riders and support their development.“We are closely monitoring developments and maintaining continuous communication with our partners and relevant authorities, including the International Equestrian Federation, to obtain the necessary official approvals to resume international tours as soon as possible,” Sheikh Talal said.The three-day event highlighted the continuity and resilience of equestrian sport in Doha, drawing top riders from the region and abroad and underlining the city’s commitment to providing a safe and competitive environment for athletes and horses alike. 

In a rapid and carefully coordinated operation, the Doha Equestrian Tour successfully transported 147 competition horses from Doha to Europe via two emergency flights, ensuring the safe return of all animals and teams amid regional tensions. The flights departed for Liege, Belgium, carrying 74 horses on the first flight and 73 on the second, along with accompanying personnel. The entire relocation from approvals to departure was completed in just 36 hours, following intensive coordination between the Tour’s organizing committee, national authorities and operational partners. With commercial flights temporarily suspended from Hamad International Airport, the Tour also implemented additional logistics solutions to support trainers and crew members unable to board the emergency flights. Ground transportation was arranged from Doha to Riyadh and Oman, allowing teams to travel onward and reunite with their horses in Europe. The complex transfer required extensive veterinary clearances, international transport documentation and operational coordination with key partners including Qatar Airways Cargo and multiple government authorities. Organisers emphasised that horse welfare and participant safety remained the top priority throughout the process. According to Tour Director Mohammed Jaber al-Khayarin, transporting horses is inherently complex, but the situation demanded exceptional teamwork and swift coordination across multiple entities. Thanks to pre-established risk management protocols and emergency procedures, the operation was executed smoothly despite the extraordinary circumstances. “We extend our sincere gratitude to all official partners and relevant authorities who contributed to the successful and safe transport of the horses,” said al-Khayarin. “We particularly acknowledge the significant efforts of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) of the Ministry of Interior, the Amiri Guard, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Civil Aviation Authority, Qatar Airways, our official airline partner, Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana, our official mobility partner, and the Qatar Olympic Committee.” While most international horses have now returned to Europe, some riders, trainers and horses remain at the Longines Arena at Al Shaqab, where local and GCC participants continue preparations to complete the season’s competitions.

The Doha Equestrian Tour Organising Committee has unveiled the tour’s official identity and logo, symbolising the 10 rounds that make up this year’s edition and reflecting the event’s deep connection to equestrian heritage and Doha’s growing sporting excellence on the international stage.Speaking on the occasion, Khalifa al-Attiyah, Executive Director of the Doha Equestrian Tour, said the new identity is rooted in a strategic vision aimed at strengthening Qatar’s presence on the global equestrian map.“The Doha Equestrian Tour has consistently enriched the international equestrian calendar with high-quality competitions, reinforcing Qatar’s position as a global sporting capital and a preferred destination for hosting major international championships,” al-Attiyah said.He added that Qatar’s advanced infrastructure, including world-class venues such as Al Shaqab, plays a central role in the continued success of the tour.The Doha Equestrian Tour 2026 will feature 10 international championships ranging from one to five star events, running from January 2 to April 4, with a total prize purse exceeding €10mn.The series will open with the HH The Father Amir’s Cup, scheduled from January 2 to 31, comprising four rounds across 1 to 5-star categories. This will be followed by the HH The Amir’s Sword International Equestrian Festival, which runs from February 11 for four days and includes 1, 3 and 5-star competitions, along with dressage events.The sixth stop on the calendar is the Al Shaqab International Show Jumping Championship (CHI), sponsored by Longines, to be held from February 18 to 21. The event will feature show jumping, dressage and para-dressage competitions across 1, 4 and 5-star levels. Next is the Longines Global Champions Tour, scheduled from March 4 to 7, with 1, 3 and 5-star categories.The organising committee also announced the introduction of three new championships for the 2026 edition: the Qatar Olympic Committee Cup, the Al Shaqab Cup and the Qatar Equestrian Federation Cup.The Qatar Olympic Committee Cup will serve as the eighth championship, running from March 11 for four days and featuring 1, 2 and 3-star competitions. The Al Shaqab Cup, the ninth event on the tour, will take place from March 26 over three days and will include 1 to 5-star competitions, as well as team events across various categories.The Doha Equestrian Tour 2026 will conclude with the Qatar Equestrian Federation Cup, scheduled from April 2 to 4, featuring one- to five-star competitions.All competitions of the Doha Equestrian Tour 2026 will be staged at Al Shaqab Equestrian Centre, one of the region’s leading equestrian venues, renowned for its state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities built to the highest international standards.
