Qatar Foundation for Social Work (QFSW) held a press conference Sunday to announce the launch of an inaugural award for social researchers, specialising in the social work sector.It aims to invariably stimulate the production of knowledge and scientific evidence and translate them into practical solutions that substantially advance social programs and services, while making a concrete and consequential impact on beneficiaries' quality of life, with official backing from the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund (DAAM).The award comes as part of efforts to substantially advance scientific research in social work, encourage researchers to examine high-priority social issues, and put forward solutions and recommendations grounded in scientific evidence.These efforts are instrumental in developing social policies, practices and services, supporting knowledge-based decision-making and fostering sustainable social impact.The award's vision, across the gamut from research to knowledge, and from knowledge to impact, embodies QFSW's thrust toward entrenching scientific knowledge as a bedrock for developing social practices and services and ensuring that research findings move beyond the confines of study and documentation to become genuine opportunities for practical application and tangible benefit.The award is an outgrowth of this broader pursuit of turning research into knowledge and knowledge into measurable social impact.It seeks to raise awareness of high-priority social issues, foster innovation in addressing them, and identify and develop national research capabilities, aiming to enrich the social knowledge base and make its outputs accessible to researchers, practitioners and decision-makers, providing a substantive body of knowledge that can significantly augment policies and practices.Research entries and proposals will be accepted from Nov. 1 to 15, 2026, across three categories targeting secondary-school students, university students and academics, and personnel working in the social sector.Overall, the award centers on promoting a tight-knit family in accord with Qatar National Vision 2030's pursuit of building a cohesive society rooted in strong family and social bonds. It also aligns with QFSW's priorities of strengthening family stability and advancing sustainable social development.The targeted research is threefold: social phenomena and transformations; social services, interventions and impact; and policies, advocacy and societal change.These areas are intended to encourage research into the socioeconomic and cultural transformations affecting families and society; assess social programs and services and measure their impact; and examine policies, legislation and initiatives that contribute to strengthening social protection, empowering individuals and families, and fostering a tight-knit community.The targeted research groups also include persons with disabilities, older adults, women, children, families, orphans without family support, young people most vulnerable to risks, and caregivers. This approach helps direct scientific research toward social issues arising from the needs of individuals, families and society, ensuring that research remains as closely connected to beneficiaries' needs as possible and remains relevant to the realities confronting them.The award offers three main participation tracks, designed to accommodate different levels of experience and academic and professional backgrounds while promoting an interchange of knowledge between academic research, field practice and community awareness.The school track targets secondary-school students at public and private schools in Qatar. Entries may be submitted individually or by a research team, provided that the research is overseen by an educational supervisor.The university and academic track is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers and faculty members. The social-sector professionals track, meanwhile, targets employees, practitioners and specialists working at institutions, centers and other entities operating in the social sector.Applicants must be Qatari citizens or residents of the State of Qatar. Submitted work must be original, prepared by the applicant or applicants, and must not have previously won another research award.Participants must also consistently uphold academic honesty and integrity, adhere to research ethics, protect participants' rights and privacy, and maintain the confidentiality of their data, while respecting intellectual property rights and properly documenting all sources and references.Technical requirements vary by track. Research submitted under the school track must range from 6,000 to 8,000 words and include a simplified list of sources. Entries under the university and academic track and the social-sector professionals track must range from 8,000 to 12,000 words, excluding appendices and references.Both tracks also require an executive summary of no more than 250 words and compliance with established scientific methodologies and citation requirements.In this regard, QFSW's Director of Strategic Planning, Shaima Ahmed al-Janahi, affirmed that the award seeks to raise awareness of high-priority social issues and encourage participants to propound innovative insights and solutions grounded in scientific research, thereby contributing to the development of social services and programs and significantly improving their impact.Al-Janahi explained that the award is committed to supporting this approach from the early stages of education, helping develop analytical and innovative skills among emerging generations and giving researchers and members of the community the chance to contribute meaningfully to understanding social challenges and suggesting appropriate solutions and initiatives to address them.She added that the award's association with QFSW and its specialised service centers provides a valuable opportunity to connect research findings with the realities of professional practice and implementation.Participating research can help develop services and programs while enabling researchers to follow the impact of their findings on beneficiaries' lives, Al Janahi highlighted.For his part, Director of the Shared Services Department at DAAM, Yousef Mohammed al-Nuaimi, said the Fund's support for the award underscores its belief in the importance of scientific research in exploring social issues and laying out practical solutions that contribute to developing programs and services provided to the community.In essence, the award also offers an opportunity to identify research talent and encourage researchers and social-sector personnel to put their knowledge and expertise to work for the benefit of society, while contributing to practical, actionable recommendations.The award adopts three major stages of evaluation and judging, beginning with the assessment of research proposals, followed by the evaluation of completed studies and concluding with the assessment of final presentations.Entries will be assessed against approved forms and criteria covering the research's scientific value, originality and innovation, theoretical framework, methodology, analysis and findings, recommendations, social impact, and the quality of reporting and academic documentation.A scientific panel comprising specialised judges from various academic and professional institutions in the State of Qatar will oversee the judging process, ensuring integrity, transparency and objectivity.Under the procedures, each proposal or research paper will be assessed independently by at least two judges. A third judge will be assigned insofar as there is a substantial discrepancy between the evaluations.Under the award's approved plan, the first stage will see 30 research proposals shortlisted for implementation, with 10 proposals selected in each track.After the implementation stage concludes and completed research papers are evaluated, 15 studies will be shortlisted for the final presentations, with five selected from each track. The process will culminate in the selection of nine winners, with three winners in each track.The award offers cash prizes to the top three entrants in each track, distributed as follows: School Track: QAR 20,000 for first place, QAR 15,000 for second place and QAR 10,000 for third place.University and Academics Track: QAR 50,000 for first place, QAR 30,000 for second place and QAR 20,000 for third place.Social-Sector Professionals Track: QAR 50,000 for first place, QAR 30,000 for second place and QAR 20,000 for third place.The award process begins with the receipt of entries and proposals from Nov. 1 to 15, 2026, followed by the evaluation of proposals from Nov. 16 to 30. The results of the first stage will be announced on Dec. 3, 2026.The selected research projects will be carried out from Dec. 3, 2026, to March 7, 2027. Completed studies will then be evaluated from March 7 to April 7, 2027. The results of the second stage and the final presentations are scheduled for April 2027, while the final results and closing ceremony are set for May 2027.As such, QFSW invited those interested in participating to visit its website, www.QatarSocial.org, to consult the award's dedicated page for its terms and conditions, participation requirements, details of the research tracks, evaluation criteria, timetable and other relevant application information.The award demonstrates QFSW's broader commitment to advancing scientific research as an instrumental tool for understanding high-priority social issues, developing policies, services and practices, and using knowledge to support decision-making and achieve sustainable social impact.These efforts ultimately seek to improve the quality of life of individuals, families and society.

 The Behavioural Healthcare Centre (Daam), one of the centres affiliated with the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, organised an event to mark World Mental Health Day, observed annually on October 10.  The event aimed to raise awareness of mental health and workplace well-being, highlighting the close relationship between mental and behavioural health. 

A campaign promoting ethical values and positive behaviour among school students is expanding to schools across Qatar, organisers said. The campaign is being led by Qatar Social Work's Behavioral Health Support Center (Daam), in co-operation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the "My Values Shape My Identity" project.It is also being carried out in partnership with the Akhlaquna initiative and the Aman Social Protection and Rehabilitation Center. The campaign began last week in selected schools and is being extended to schools across Qatar's municipalities. It includes educational lectures, interactive activities and a dedicated game designed to help students learn about values and how to apply them in everyday situations.Organisers said the interactive approach was intended to make discussions about ethics more relevant to students while encouraging participation, reflection and positive behavioural choices. The campaign focuses on values including responsibility, respect and co-operation, while highlighting the role of schools, families and the wider community in helping young people develop positive behaviour and ethical awareness. The organisers said the programme aims to turn ethical principles into practical behaviours that students can apply in their daily lives.

Daam Behavioral Healthcare Center announced that it has received CARF International’s behavioural health accreditation for the second consecutive time. Daam is one of the centres under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work. Commenting on this development, Daam Executive Director Jawaher Abu Alfain said that the renewal of the CARF International accreditation for the second cycle (2025-2028) is a direct reflection of Daam’s efforts to build a comprehensive institutional system based on quality, sustainability, and continuous improvement. This achievement demonstrates Daam’s institutional maturity in terms of delivering behavioural health services in accordance with internationally recognised standards, Abu Alfain added. The centre places beneficiaries at the heart of its priorities and is committed to continuously developing its services and programs in line with the latest professional best practices, she said. The Daam Executive Director emphasised that maintaining this international accreditation requires integrated teamwork and sustained efforts to enhance service quality and institutional performance, thereby creating a positive and lasting impact on individuals and the wider community. In turn, quality and planning specialist and project manager for the CARF International accreditation at Daam, Dhofar al-Soufi, said that receiving the CARF International accreditation for the second consecutive time marks a significant milestone that reflects the Center’s steadfast commitment to applying the highest quality standards and service safety. The accreditation’s renewal is the result of teamwork and ongoing efforts to develop Daam’s services and administrative and organisational practices in accordance with international best practices, she said. It ensures the delivery of comprehensive care centred on beneficiaries’ needs and enhances recovery outcomes. This accreditation is not merely a certificate of recognition; it is a renewed responsibility that motivates the Center to continue improving and promoting a culture of quality and excellence across all aspects of its institutional work, al-Soufi said.

Daam Behavioral Healthcare Center, one of the centers under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, has launched a campaign titled 'moral example' to raise awareness of good manners and reinforce moral values and behaviors among school students.Through awareness lectures and interactive activities tailored to different educational levels, the campaign aims to promote setting a positive example and instilling a sense of individual and social responsibility.The campaign's first event was held at Al Arqam Academy for Girls, targeting 273 students.It included programs and activities designed to strengthen the values of respect, cooperation, honesty, and responsibility, helping to build a positive and cohesive school environment.Director of Community Awareness at Daam, Hussain Al Harami, said that the campaign seeks to promote moral values and responsible behavior, recognizing schools' role in character development and in fostering ethical practices that contribute to social cohesion.Daam is committed to implementing interactive awareness programs for children and adolescents that take into account their developmental needs and help instill in them good manners by means of modern and engaging methods, Al Harami added.Meanwhile, campaign coordinator, Sara Al Sulaiti said that the campaign relies on interactive activities and innovative educational tools that encourage active student participation and the practical application of moral values in daily life.The campaign delivers age-appropriate awareness-raising content that reinforces respect, cooperation, honesty, and responsibility.It will resume in September and October as part of Daam's ongoing plan to promote behavioral awareness and strengthen moral values across educational institutions, contributing to the development of a conscious generation capable of making a positive impact on society. 

The Social and Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM) has signed a funding agreement with the Qatar Football Association (QFA) to support the Qatari Fans Delegation Program, aimed at backing the national team during the FIFA World Cup 2026.Under the agreement, the Fund will provide the necessary financial support to enable the Qatar Football Association to implement a comprehensive plan for transporting the Qatari fans delegation from the State of Qatar to the United States and Canada. The program includes travel arrangements, flight tickets through Qatar Airways, the official carrier, as well as hotel accommodations and local transportation.Secretary General of the Qatar Football Association, Mansoor Mohammed Al Ansari praised the agreement, stating: "We extend our sincere thanks to DAAM for this valuable cooperation and outstanding support in funding the travel arrangements for Qatari fans attending our national team's matches at the FIFA World Cup 2026. We look forward to a safe and successful journey, as well as exceptional support from our fans at this global event. Undoubtedly, this support from the Fund represents a key pillar in the implementation of our operational plans across all aspects, enabling us to deliver an outstanding fan experience for Qatari supporters during the FIFA World Cup 2026."For his part, Director of Programs at DAAM, Hassan Yousef Al Obaidly said: "We are proud to support this initiative, which goes beyond being merely a supporters' trip. It represents a message of loyalty and encouragement for our national team at the world's biggest sporting event. Through this support, we aim to remove all obstacles facing Qatari fans, enabling them to stand firmly behind Al Annabi and contribute to showcasing Qatar's identity on the global stage."The initiative is expected to facilitate the participation of approximately 1,000 individuals, including Qatari supporters, members of the supporters' association, media representatives, and players' families, to support the national team, strengthen media coverage, and create a vibrant atmosphere that will help drive the team toward achieving the best possible results at this global event.This agreement reflects the leading role played by both DAAM and the companies listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange in supporting sports initiatives, in line with the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030. 

The Behavioural Healthcare Center (Daam), one of the centres affiliated with the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, announced Wednesday the launch of its new visual identity in a step that reflects a new stage in the centre’s journey towards institutional development and excellence and confirms its continued commitment to promoting behavioural and psychological health, and consolidating its role in supporting individuals, families and society. The launch event for the new visual identity was attended by CEO of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work Rashid al-Nuaimi, Executive Director of Daam Jawaher Abu Alfain, and a number of executive directors of centres affiliated with the foundation. Marking the occasion, Executive Director of Daam Jawaher Abu Alfain said that the launch of the new visual identity represents a pivotal milestone in the journey of Daam, and embodies the maturity of the institutional experience after more than eleven years of specialised work in the field of mental and behavioural health. For her part, supervisor of the visual identity project Andalus Ibrahim indicated that the design of the new logo comes to combine modernity and authenticity, and to highlight the human connection between Daam and the target groups. She noted that the choice of the hand symbol reflects, from the first glance, the concepts of care, support, assistance, rebalancing and recovery, which are the essence of the centre’s specialisation and its work mission. Within the framework of the 2026 annual plan, Daam has developed many projects, programmes and activities targeting all segments of society with the aim of raising behavioural awareness and consolidating national identity and community values. 

The peregrine falcons failed for the second consecutive day to catch the racing pigeons in the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship, held as part of the 17th edition of the Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival (Marmi 2026). The festival is held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani and is supported by the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund “Daam.” It is taking place at Sabkhat Marmi in the Sealine Area, and will continue until January 24.The competition between the peregrine falcons and the racing pigeons resulted in the pigeons prevailing in Group Five, as none of the falcons were able to catch the pigeons, which returned safely to their nests in Umm Ebairiya for the second day in a row.**media[401740]**Shawi al-Kaabi, chairman of Hadd Al-Tahaddi Committee, said that the falconers of Group Five were indeed unable to make a catch, and the advantage went to Abdullah Fakhro’s pigeons for the second consecutive day, leaving the number of winners and qualifiers for the final round at eight falconers.Al-Kaabi explained that it is difficult to say that the peregrine falcons are weak or poorly trained. During the competition, the falcons chased and attempted to trap the pigeons, but the pigeons remained faster thanks to their light weight and intense training. Racing pigeons are among the fastest birds, making the competition fierce, but luck did not favour the falcons.He added that the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship will continue on Wednesday during the evening session with Group Six, calling on participants to arrive early so the committee can begin its work in an organised manner to ensure better coordination of the championship.**media[401741]**Meanwhile, Abdullah Fakhro, owner of the racing pigeons, said that the pigeons’ superiority for the second consecutive day in the Hadd Al-Tahaddi Championship within the Marmi Festival confirms that organised work and continuous training make the difference in such difficult competitions. He explained that the pigeons demonstrated a high ability to manoeuvre and accurately read the flight path of the peregrine falcons over the Sealine, enabling them to escape and return safely to their nests despite the falcons’ powerful flight and rapid dives.Fakhro added that the secret behind this success lies in his constant focus on diversifying and renewing his racing pigeons by introducing new types and young birds no older than one or two years, ages characterised by high vitality and better responsiveness to training and endurance. However, he stressed that he does not know in advance which competitor will be assigned a particular pigeon, which gives the competition greater credibility and makes the challenge fairer and more exciting.**media[401742]**The morning competitions of the Al-Tal'a Championship were held, featuring falconers from Groups 21 to 25. Abdulhadi Jaber al-Buraidi from Group 21 and Hamdan Mohamed al-Nuaimi from Group 22 qualified for the next round, while the remaining groups failed to advance.Rashdan bin Obaid al-Rashdan, vice chairman of the Al-Tal’a Committee, said that Tuesday’s Al-Tal’a competitions took place under suitable and favourable hunting conditions. All participants were given ample opportunity and sufficient time for their falcons to ascend, but the falcons’ performance was poor that day, particularly in Groups 23, 24, and 25.**media[401743]**He noted that two falcons were disqualified because each repeatedly stopped mid-air and deviated from their intended path, indicating they could not see the houbara bustard. He added that the Al-Tal’a Championship will continue on Wednesday for Groups 26 to 30, with the qualifiers concluding on Thursday through the postponed group competitions (12, 13, 14, 15, 19, and 20). After that, a draw will be conducted among those qualified for the semifinal round.Besides, the registration for the International Da’w Championship began Tuesday and will continue until January 15. The International Da’w Championship, scheduled to take place on January 20, includes four categories. Registration for the International Shooting Championship concludes today (January 7). The championship includes three categories: Juniors (ages 14–18), to be held on January 9; Amateurs on January 10; and Professionals, whose competitions will take place on January 17. 

Ooredoo has signed a strategic agreement with the Social & Sport Contribution Fund (Daam), naming it as an Official Supporter of the ‘Doha Marathon by Ooredoo 2026’.Sabah Rabiah al-Kuwari, vice chairman of the Doha Marathon by Ooredoo Organising Committee at Ooredoo Qatar, and Hassan Yousef al-Obaidly, director of Programmes at Daam, signed the agreement recently.Al-Kuwari said, “Together, we are creating opportunities for thousands of participants to embrace active lifestyles, while strengthening the bonds that unite our community through the power of sport.”Al-Obaidly said, “This collaboration will contribute to enhancing sporting excellence and uniting efforts to elevate the participants' experience, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 in building a vibrant and cohesive society.”
