Cooper Connolly struck a rapid-fire 47 off 27 balls to steer Australia to a four-wicket win over Bangladesh in the opening T20 international on Wednesday.Australia chased down 132 with 10 balls to spare, finishing on 133-6 in 18.2 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.Connolly anchored the chase after early setbacks, hitting four fours and three sixes before falling three runs short of a maiden half-century.Bangladesh made early inroads as Shoriful Islam dismissed Josh Inglis for five before Mustafizur Rahman removed Mitchell Marsh for 13, leaving Australia at 38-2 inside five overs.Connolly rebuilt the innings in a 40-run third-wicket stand with Tim David, who made 20 before falling to Mehidy Hasan.Connolly then pushed Australia towards the target before he was caught attempting a six off debutant Abdul Gaffar Saqlain.Australia stumbled again as Matt Renshaw and debutant Nikhil Chaudhary both fell for 18, with Saqlain and Rishad Hossain striking to keep Bangladesh in the contest.But debutant Joel Davies and Xavier Bartlett saw the visitors home in 18.2 overs, finishing unbeaten on seven and four respectively.Davies said Australia's bowlers had adapted their plans to the venue's dimensions."Here in Bangladesh, the grounds are a fair bit smaller than in Australia, so if there were any parts of the ground that were slightly bigger, I had to use that to my advantage," he said after the match.Saqlain returned 2-32, while Shoriful, Mustafizur, Mehidy and Rishad took one wicket each. AUSTRALIA'S SPINNERS DOMINATEEarlier, Australia's spinners dominated as Bangladesh were bowled out for 131 after electing to bat.Adam Zampa (3-18) and Davies (3-17) led the attack, with Australia's spinners taking nine wickets, the most by Australian spin bowlers in a T20I innings.Bangladesh lost momentum after a brisk powerplay, finishing with only 131 despite reaching 52 in six overs.Mehidy top-scored with an unbeaten 29, while stand-in captain Towhid Hridoy, captain in place of the injured Litton Das, made eight.Bangladesh pace bowling coach Talha Jubair said the hosts failed to build on a promising powerplay."Our powerplay was excellent, we scored 52 in six overs, but from there we could not carry on," he said."We went too far for boundaries when we could have built a partnership. We lost three wickets between overs seven and 15, where we needed to build our innings," he said. BRIEF SCORESAustralia 133 for 6 (Connolly 47, David 20, Saqlain 2-32) beat Bangladesh 131 (Mahedi 29*, Davies 3-17, Zampa 3-18) by four wickets 

Opener Cooper Connolly blazed 149 runs off 134 balls to lead Australia to a dramatic one-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the third and final one-day match in Mirpur on Sunday.Bangladesh had already clinched the series by winning the first two matches, but Cooper's innings overshadowed a career-best 6-48 by left-arm pace bowler Shoriful Islam.Set 275 to win, Australia scraped home with three balls to spare when Adam Zampa hit a cover drive to the boundary off Taskin Ahmed.Bangladesh earlier reached 274-5 after winning the toss, with Towhid Hridoy leading the way with a composed innings of 83 off 88 balls.Australia started their run chase strongly, racing to 40 before losing captain Josh Inglis to Shoriful in the fifth over.Shoriful then bowled Matt Renshaw for a duck two balls later to have Australia at 40-2.Australia were then wobbling at 70-3 when Alex Carey fell for eight to a stunning catch by Soumya Sarkar at short cover off Taskin.Connolly refused to buckle, the 25-year-old opener sharing a 64-run stand with Marnus Labuschagne (29) and then similarly valuable partnerships with Cameron Green and Oliver Peake. WICKETS WITH SUCCESSIVE DELIVERIES Shoriful removed Peake and Xavier Bartlett with successive deliveries, but Ben Dwarshuis denied him the hat-trick.Dwarshuis's dismissal soon after left Australia needing five runs from 15 balls with two wickets in hand.Tanzid Hasan then dropped a straightforward chance at gully off Zampa that eemed to deflate Bangladesh.Connolly finally fell to Mustafizur after scoring his first ODI century, an innings studded with 13 fours and six sixes.That left Australia four runs short with nine balls remaining, with Zampa and tail-ender Riley Meredith at the crease.Zampa then found the cover boundary on the third ball of the final over from Taskin.In Bangladesh's innings, Litton Das (58) and Mosaddek Hossain (56) made unbeaten half-centuries to provide support for Hridoy, who scored his 13th ODI half-century.Litton retired hurt on 48 with a muscle injury but returned to bring up his first ODI fifty at Mirpur.Bartlett and Renshaw picked up two wickets apiece for Australia. BRIEF SCORESAustralia 277 for 9 (Connolly 149, Labuschagne 29, Shoriful 6-48) beat Bangladesh 274 for 5 (Hridoy 83, Litton 58, Mosaddek 56) by one wicket 

Explosive knocks from opener Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly helped top of the table Punjab Kings hammer Lucknow Super Giants by 54 runs to stay unbeaten in the season Sunday. Arya struck 93 off 37 balls and fellow left-hander Connolly hit 87 to power Punjab to this season’s highest total of 254-7 after being invited to bat first in New Chandigarh. In reply, Lucknow managed just 200-5 as Punjab consolidated their top spot in the 10-team table with five wins and one no result in six matches. An early reprieve for Connolly proved costly for Lucknow after skipper Rishabh Pant decided not to review an lbw call in the second over from Mohsin Khan and replays suggested the ball would have hit the stumps. Australia’s Connolly was on four at the time and put on 182 runs for the second wicket with Arya as the two bludgeoned the opposition attack with sixes. Arya reached his second fifty of the season in 19 balls and soon the Lucknow attack had no answers for the batting blitz. Connolly went after Aiden Markram with three straight sixes and Arya finished the over with two more in a 32-run 13th over and Punjab looked at 300. But pace bowler Prince Yadav took down Connolly and Arya fell three balls later in the next over to miss out on a century. Mohsin dismissed skipper Shreyas Iyer for five but Australia’s Marcus Stoinis steered the team to a mammoth total with his 16-ball 29. Mitchell Marsh, who hit 40, and Ayush Badoni (35) handed Lucknow a brisk start and Pant hit 43 but regular wickets and the ever-increasing run rate kept the team behind the chase. Markram hit a valiant 22-ball 42 and despite a few dropped catches from Punjab fielders Lucknow lost their third straight match. BRIEF SCORESPunjab Kings 254 for 7 (Arya 93, Connolly 87, Prince 2-25, Siddharth 2-35) beat Lucknow Super Giants 200 for 5 (Pant 43, Markram 42*, Marsh 40, Jansen 2-37) by 54 runs
