Wyndham Clark surged into a commanding five-stroke lead at the BMW Championship on Saturday, bouncing back from an opening-hole double bogey to fire a superb round of 65.Having started moving day just one stroke clear, Clark left the field in his wake with six birdies, and an eagle on eight, at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri. The double US Open winner will enter the final day of the penultimate event of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoffs on 17-under, joined in the final pair by Rory McIlroy on 12-under. "Overall, awesome day," said Clark. Clark's hot streak to score Saturday's joint best round was all the more remarkable given how his day began. After a bogey-free first two days, the overnight leader botched an ambitious shot from the lip of a fairway bunker and badly misjudged the green for a double-bogey on one."It was an unfortunate break... probably should have just chipped out and played for bogey," he said. Clark quickly regained the joint lead with Gary Woodland, his birdie putt just wobbling in on four, before a superb wedge from deep rough for birdie on seven.An eagle on eight from a pinpoint iron and 12-foot putt gave Clark a three-stroke cushion. And the American soared clear on the back nine, with birdies at 10 - thanks to a 30-foot putt - 11, 13 and 14. He saved par with a 15-foot putt on 16 but missed a simple five-foot birdie putt on 17 and then another par putt on the last to give the field hope."Got into a great groove and played amazing. I'm just a little bummed right now at how I finished on 17, 18," he said. With Woodland struggling, McIlroy surged into joint second. The Northern Irishman carded an entertaining 65, despite finding just four fairways all day.He had birdied the par-three third and escaped a wayward drive on eighth with a par after somehow bulldozing his second shot straight through both a tree and a bunker. Pushing the accelerator, the six-time Major champ's game sprang to life on the back nine, with five birdies - including a 26-foot putt on 16 - closing the gap to Clark."Playing this golf course from the rough isn't fun. But I hung in there. My short game saved me a couple of times," said McIlroy. "I'm in a good spot going into tomorrow in terms of where I'm at at the leaderboard. But it's going to take a heroic effort from one of us to catch Wyndham." He added: "I think you can be aggressive here." Scheffler stallsMcIlroy was joined in second by Patrick Cantlay, who birdied the 18th in a round of 66. Woodland and Chris Gotterup were a further stroke back, at 11-under, followed by Collin Morikawa. Woodland and Cantlay are both on the cusp of making the final field of 30 for the season-ending Tour Championship, taking place next week in Atlanta, Georgia.World number one Scottie Scheffler - who recovered Friday after briefly sitting rock bottom on an illness-affected opening day - made moves in the morning, reaching six-under par. But he handed two shots back with back-nine bogeys, becoming frustrated as any hopes of an improbable comeback vanished.Scheffler finished on five-under par after a 68. 

The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), a government-owned corporation in the Philippines that manages the Clark Aviation Capital, has secured two strategic lease agreements with major international aerospace component and service providers, accelerating its target of establishing the country as a primary regional hub for aircraft manufacturing, maintenance, and logistics. The state enterprise signed a 25-year lease contract with Heatcon Asia, Inc, a key supplier to aerospace giant Boeing, followed by an expansion agreement with Jamco Philippines Inc (JPI), an aircraft interiors manufacturer. Both operations will be anchored within the Clark Civil Aviation Complex, supporting national initiatives under President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr to build up the site into the “Clark Aviation Capital,” an integrated commercial and high-tech manufacturing campus driven by CIAC, the land and aviation development arm of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). CIAC’s long-term agreement with Heatcon Asia, Inc establishes a central facility for composite repair solutions, materials distribution, and specialised component servicing within the aviation complex. Founded in 1978, Heatcon supplies hot bonders, heat blankets, and technical process materials globally to commercial airlines and defence platforms. Company management noted the new Clark site will serve as its central operating node to handle rising maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) demand across the Asia-Pacific territory. CIAC president and CEO Joseph Alcazar noted that attracting specialised maintenance services directly supports CIAC’s broader mandate under the BCDA to drive high-value industrial activities. “This investment represents a significant milestone in Clark’s continued emergence as a leading aviation and aerospace hub,” Alcazar emphasised.“Heatcon’s facilities support major aviation players in the region, including Boeing, and are expected to further strengthen Clark’s position as an attractive destination for aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services,” he said. Alcazar also noted that by establishing its presence here, Heatcon is directly contributing to CIAC’s vision of transforming the region into a premier aerospace centre in Southeast Asia.He emphasised that with global aircraft fleets expanding, securing world-class composite repair facilities helps position Clark to capture essential regional service contracts while reinforcing safety and maintenance standards. “Today’s signing formalises a partnership rooted in innovation and global excellence. It highlights Clark’s readiness to support the growing demands of the global aerospace industry while advancing our vision of developing Clark Aviation Capital,” Alcazar noted. Under its expansion plan, JPI, a subsidiary of Tokyo-headquartered Jamco Corporation, has committed to investing at least P600mn ($10.3mn) over the next three years to scale up production. The company has maintained operations at the Clark Freeport for 15 years, manufacturing structural parts and interior equipment supplied directly to global supply chains for aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing. With the expansion scheduled to become fully operational by 2028, Jamco will shift its local workflow from partial sub-assembly to full and final assembly in Clark. Completed components will be dispatched directly to Airbus assembly plants in Toulouse, France, alongside Boeing facilities in South Carolina and Washington State. The project will expand Jamco’s existing local workforce of 450 employees to roughly 1,400 technical and assembly personnel. Alcazar stressed that the expansion marks a significant step forward for the facility’s technical capabilities. “It positions Clark as a strategic manufacturing hub within the global aerospace industry and further demonstrates that world-class aerospace production can be proudly accomplished in the Philippines,” Alcazar said, adding that the commitment sends a clear signal to global investors regarding local workforce readiness and infrastructure capacity.

Wyndham Clark captured his second US Open title after a back-nine battle on Sunday, holding off Sam Burns for a wire-to-wire triumph at blustery Shinnecock.Clark, whose other major crown came at the 2023 US Open, fired a three-over par 73 to finish 72 holes on four-under 276 and defeat fellow American Burns by one stroke."Pretty amazing," Clark said. "It's surreal to be honest."Clark began the day with a six-shot lead, saw it shrink to a single stroke as he struggled early, then grinded through the back nine."I played some ugly golf the last two days, but my putter and short game kept me in it," Clark said."It comes down to just believing good things are going to happen and you're going to make the putt. And fortunately the ones that I needed to make I did."Clark sank a 24-foot birdie putt at the par-five 16th after finding deep rough off the tee then overcame a bogey at 17 with a two-putt par from 52 feet at 18 for the triumph."It has been a grind. I haven't played the prettiest golf so I've been into some pretty sketchy spots. So I felt actually kind of comfortable over there," Clark said of the rough at 16."To make birdie there was honestly a bonus. I just wanted to make par. I mean that was one of the bigger ones I hit today."Clark became only the ninth wire-to-wire US Open winner and the first since Germany's Martin Kaymer at Pinehurst in 2014.Clark celebrated on Father's Day with a hug from his dad Randall, who flew in Sunday to surprise him."That was a shock," Clark said. "My dad hasn't been to many events. For him to be here in person is amazing."Clark captured the record top prize of $4.5 million from a $22.5 million purse, but the effort had greater meaning as well.The 32-year-old said it was a way to help him erase the bad feelings over smashing a locker at Oakmont after missing the cut in last year's US Open."This one was a lot of redemption. Last year was so tough. A terrible year," Clark said. "It's amazing what a year can do."Clark was heckled by fans, the US Golf Association confirming that some spectators were removed from the course for unacceptable conduct."New York didn't really like me," he said. "I love you guys. But I get it. Some of it is self-deserved. I did some unfortunate things last year that I really regret ... hopefully I can win you guys over eventually." Burns was second on 277 after a closing 67 with South Korean Tom Kim third on 279 after a 70.Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler fired a 71 to share fourth on 280 with fellow Americans Keith Mitchell and JT Poston. Scheffler, a four-time major winner, would have completed a career Grand Slam with a victory on his 30th birthday, and Clark said that also contributed to the fan sentiment in favor of his playing partner."I get it. They root for Scottie," he said. "Grand Slams only happen a few times."He's going to get it. He's the best player in the world," Clark added. "But today it's my day."Greg Norman at the 1996 Masters was the only golfer to ever lose a major after leading by six or more through 54 holes, but Clark made things tense for a while.Clark had three bogeys on the front nine while Burns charged with birdies on four of the first eight holes and pulled within one stroke."I knew it was going to take something special," Burns said. "Got off to a dream start."He stayed within one after a birdie at the par-five 16th then dropped to his knees after a 16-foot birdie miss at 18."I honestly thought I made it, but just the way it goes," Burns said. "I'm sure when I close my eyes tonight I may see that putt again."   

The Clark International Airport is banking on a surge in domestic traffic to sustain its growth momentum this year, even as flight cancellations linked to the conflict in the Middle East have trimmed its international passenger numbers, the airport's top official said.Noel Manankil, president and chief executive officer of LIPAD Corporation, the private operator of Clark International Airport (CRK), emphasised that the gradual transfer of turboprop flights from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to CRK has provided a domestic buffer against the disruptions.“Although we have a couple of airline partners that fly directly to the Middle East and were temporarily affected by the disruption, on the domestic side, we are looking at positive growth brought by these turboprop transfers,” Manankil told Gulf Times in an exclusive interview.Manankil explained that the transfers were carried out in response to a resolution by the Department of Transportation's (DoTr) Manila Slot Co-ordination Committee, issued on July 29, 2025, directing the gradual phase-out of turboprop aircraft operations from NAIA and their relocation to CRK.According to Manankil, the final phase of the directive was completed on March 29, 2025.On the international side, Manankil pointed out that LIPAD has been stepping up engagement with airline operators to expand services at CRK or establish hub operations at the airport.“Notwithstanding potential air travel disruptions, LIPAD consistently engages with airline operators to encourage them to expand their operations or even set up a hub in CRK to further strengthen our airport operations,” Manankil stressed.Manankil noted that the company recently concluded a week-long participation at Routes Asia 2026 in China, where LIPAD presented CRK's business case to a number of airline operators.Earlier this year, Manankil said LIPAD also mounted a roadshow in India, together with local stakeholders, to position Clark as a complete tourist destination.LIPAD's longer-term ambitions extend beyond terminal operations, noted Manankil, who also said the company has drawn up a masterplan to develop an entire aviation ecosystem around the airport, incorporating logistics, commercial, business, and residential hubs.“We aim for these developments within the airport city to support the global operations of these industry giants,” he said.To support the Clark Freeport's tourism credentials, Manankil said LIPAD has also committed to maintaining consistent dialogue with both local and foreign airlines, pursuing aggressive marketing strategies, and expanding land connectivity while awaiting the completion of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR).Asked how LIPAD can lead the “system reset” for Philippine aviation to ensure CRK stays ahead of the curve as a preferred entry point for international visitors, Manankil said: “...on being a logistics hub, the LIPAD airport city is envisioned to complement the Clark Freeport as a full tourism destination.”Manankil added: “LIPAD commits to support the efforts of the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) as the main driver of Clark as a destination with consistent dialogues with airlines, both local and foreign; aggressive marketing strategies, including expanding land connectivity as we wait for the completion of the NSCR and offering creative airline hub operations packages; ensuring that passenger experience is hassle-free by ensuring seamless airport processes, a well-built and beautifully maintained passenger terminal and a great customer experience.” 

The Clark International Airport in the Philippines has recorded a surge in passenger traffic during the recent observance of Holy Week despite the global impact of the US-Israel-Iran war on jet fuel prices.While the conflict has pressured global energy markets and led to higher airline surcharges, airport operations at Clark have remained resilient, stakeholders told a recent media forum hosted by the Pampanga Press Club (PPC), a premier media organisation in the province of Pampanga.Dante Basanta, the operations head of Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD) Corporation, said domestic departure flights saw a 20% increase compared to the week prior to the holiday. Domestic arrivals grew by 10%, while international flights recorded a 5% rise during the same period, he emphasised.The increase in passenger volume occurred despite a spike in global oil and gas prices following the outbreak of the conflict in late February, Basanta explained.Speaking to reporters in Manila recently, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin stated that the country’s fuel inventory “remains stable at 50 days” despite these global price pressures.As of April 3, the Philippines held jet fuel stocks sufficient for “66 days,” gasoline for “57 days,” and kerosene for “106 days,” she said. The country also maintained diesel stocks for “47 days,” fuel oil for “52 days,” and LPG for “33 days,” Garin added.According to Energy Undersecretary Alessandro Sales, a shipment of “300,000 barrels” of diesel from Malaysia is set to arrive on April 10. The Department of Energy further stated that it expects an additional “600,000 barrels” of diesel to arrive later this month.Basanta noted that the growth at the terminal was supported by the resumption of Middle East flights, which were previously suspended due to the regional crisis. This recovery in international connectivity remains a key factor for the airport as it continues to expand its global network, he further pointed out.Aujean Santos, the operations manager of Plaza Premium Lounge located inside the Clark International Airport, explained that the industry is navigating fuel price volatility by building resilience and adapting cost management strategies.Basanta admitted that some travellers have deferred plans due to higher airfares resulting from increased fuel surcharges approved by the Civil Aeronautics Board. However, the long holiday break due to the observance of the Holy Week in the Philippines served as a major catalyst for the recorded passenger growth at the terminal, he said.Paolo Santos, the commercial head of LIPAD, emphasised that the airport is expanding its retail and dining options to further improve the passenger journey. New travel retail stores are expected to open within the current quarter to provide an enhanced shopping experience, he noted.The airport currently has a terminal capacity of 4mn passengers per year as part of its phase one development. The facility is designed to eventually accommodate up to 12mn passengers through subsequent expansion phases, Basanta stated.He added that the Clark International Airport was recently awarded the ‘Best Airport at Arrivals Globally’ title by the Airports Council International (ACI). It has also achieved Level Two Customer Experience Accreditation from ACI, reflecting its commitment to providing optimum passenger service.In late March, Garin spoke to Bilyonaryo News Channel, stating that she expects airfares to rise further as jet fuel prices continue to surge. Garin explained that airlines are struggling to manage operations because many tickets were sold before the recent price spike. She noted that while major carriers have increased their fuel inventory, the direct impact of high fuel costs is being passed onto passengers.Following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a two-week suspension of strikes on Iran late Tuesday, less than two hours before his “back to the stone age” and wiping out “a whole civilisation” ultimatum, oil prices fell below $100 per barrel.In an interview with the cable news channel ANC Wednesday, Garin expressed skepticism about the likelihood of an immediate rollback in local fuel prices. She highlighted key factors affecting fuel costs, suggesting that recent market trends and economic conditions may prevent any immediate reductions despite the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
