Opener Abhishek Sharma hit a record T20 century off 30 balls to set up a crushing 127-run win for India in the third match against Afghanistan and sweep the series 3-0 on Thursday. Left-handed Abhishek's ton was the fastest in a T20 international between full Test-playing nations as he guided India to 221-7 at New Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium.Afghanistan, who were the official hosts for the series, checked the opposition surge after Abhishek departed for 108 off 34 balls and India lost their way from 142-1 in 10 overs. But the Afghan batters once again disappointed and were bowled out for 94 in 14.1 overs.Afghanistan had posted 156-8 and 159-8 while batting first in the first two matches. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel struck twice in his first over to send back Rahmanullah Gurbaz, for 15, and Sediqullah Atal, for one, and Afghanistan could never recover from the losses.Seam bowler Nitish Kumar Reddy also took two wickets in one over to return figures of 3-25. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi wrapped up the Afghanistan innings with his third strike of the match. Abhishek stood out with his third T20 century as he surpassed Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza's ton off 33 balls against Gambia in 2024 and Finn Allen's effort from the same number of deliveries in New Zealand's T20 World Cup semi-final win over South Africa earlier this year in India."It's just watch the ball and play according to it," said Abhishek, who was named player of the match,. "It's very simple from day one. I just want to express myself. Just see the ball and hit the ball. You can't be sure you'll be doing well all the time but the culture we've developed in our team is to dominate and it's been going well so far."The only two faster T20I hundreds came in matches betwen the lower-tiered associate members of the ICC. Sahil Chauhan of Estonia holds the overall record of 27 balls after his century against Cyprus two years ago while Muhammad Fahad needed just 29 balls for his ton for Turkey against Bulgaria in 2025.'Pleasing to the eye'Abhishek tore into the Afghanistan bowling attack after India were invited to bat first. "It wasn't an easy wicket, but the way Abhishek played today was flawless, and it was just pleasing to the eye," said India captain Shreyas Iyer.The swashbuckling opener hit a six to reach 99. He completed the hundred with a single and sat in meditation pose to celebrate. He finally fell for 108 off 34 balls to leg-spinner Rashid Khan. The 26-year-old's knock was laced with nine fours and 11 sixes.His opening stand of 142 with Sanju Samson, who hit 50, put India on course for a big total but the Afghan bowlers hit back with regular wickets. Tilak Varma was run out for two by Rashid and Samson departed after his second successive half-century as he fell to pace bowler Azmatullah Omarzai.Omarzai struck another blow helped by a stunning catch by Rashid in the deep to send back Shivam Dube for 14. India raised their 100 in six overs but managed just 79 from the last 60 balls. India now head to Japan for the Asian Games starting September 19 at Nagoya-Aichi. Afghanistan will send a largely different team to the Asian Games under Darwish Rasooli. BRIEF SCORES:India 221 for 7 (Abhishek 108, Samson 50, Omarzai 2-27) beat Afghanistan 94 (Zadran 25, Reddy 3-25, Bishnoi 3-26) by 127 runs. 

Top-order batter Devdutt Padikkal's fine form continued as he scored 117 to help India reach 300-5 at stumps on the opening day of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Sunday. Padikkal, a late injury replacement ahead of the series, had scored 167 and 44 in the first Test to win the Man of the Match award as India won by 165 runs in Galle.He followed up with another century, but only after being dropped twice early in his innings after India opted to bat first. Padikkal was first dropped by Sonal Dinusha at backward point before he had opened his account, then received another reprieve on two runs when captain Dhananjaya de Silva spilled a chance at slip. Padikkal added 120 runs for the third wicket with captain Shubman Gill to put India in control before off-spinner Keshara Nuwantha finally ended his stay.Since Gill moved down to number four after assuming the captaincy, India have tried several players in the number three position. Padikkal's performances in this series have made him a strong contender for the role. India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said he felt the team lost two wickets too many."A couple of guys had got starts but couldn't cash in, but all in all, we are happy with where we are no," he told reporters. Seamer Asitha Fernando was the pick of Sri Lanka's bowlers, returning figures of 3-46.He dismissed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for 43 in the morning session, with the dismissal followed by a heated exchange between the two. Fernando struck again to remove Gill, who slashed at a delivery moving away from him and was caught behind. With the second new ball, Fernando produced another important breakthrough when he bowled Ravindra Jadeja.Debutant off-spinner Saransh Jain was unbeaten on four at stumps, with Dhruv Jurel seven not out. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was struck on his left forearm while attempting to pull Lahiru Kumara and was forced to retire hurt. Sri Lanka's fast bowling coach Ryan van Niekerk expressed satisfaction with his team's performance."Really happy with the way our seamers went about things today. They created opportunities and troubled the batters," he said. Only 85 of the scheduled 90 overs were bowled on the opening day.Earlier, Sri Lanka handed opening batter Kamil Mishara his Test debut, with Nishan Fernando left out. Pasindu Sooriyabandara, who came on as a concussion substitute for Dinesh Chandimal in the first Test, also featured in the starting eleven for the first time. BRIEF SCORES:  India 300 for 5 (Padikkal 117, Gill 50, Jaiswal 45, Asitha 3-46) vs Sri Lanka. 

Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim hit a glittering century as Bangladesh set Pakistan an imposing target of 427 to win the second Test after another commanding day for the hosts on Monday. Bangladesh posted 390 all out in their second innings on day three with Mushfiqur, who made 137, and Litton Das, who hit 69, putting together 123 runs for the fifth wicket. The 39-year-old Mushfiqur rolled back the years as he scored his 14th Test century, surpassing Mominul Haque's record of 13 for Bangladesh. Pakistan openers Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal survived the last two overs of the day without scoring before bad light ended play. The visitors will need a record chase to level the two-match series after Bangladesh won the opener. West Indies currently hold the record for the 418 they scored to beat Australia in Antigua in 2003, while Pakistan have never successfully chased more than 377. Starting the day on 110-3 with a lead of 156 runs, Bangladesh lost skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto for 15 but Mushfiqur and Litton put the Pakistan bowlers to the test. Litton, who scored a century in the first innings, looked good for another big score but fell to Hasan Ali at deep third-man. Mushfiqur reached his century off 178 balls with a boundary off Mohammad Abbas -- the shot that moved him clear of Mominul into the history books. It was also his eighth Test century since 2022. Taijul Islam provided valuable lower-order support, adding 77 runs with Mushfiqur before off-spinner Sajid Khan dismissed him for 22. Mushfiqur was the last man out as he became Sajid's third wicket in the innings. Pakistan pace bowling coach Umar Gul, however, said his team will fight on. "We have two days left and we are mentally prepared. If we bat through the full duration, there is a chance to win - we aren't just looking for a draw," said Gul. "Two or three good partnerships will be very important. To chase 437, you have to be brave and play positive cricket. In cricket, anything is possible." Bangladesh spinner Taijul was confident the target would weigh on Pakistan. "When they see the target number, many things may work in their minds. Discipline is very important now," said Taijul. Pace bowler Khurram Shahzad took four 4-86 while Sajid claimed 3-126.
