The third edition of the Al Thumama Ramadan Football Tournament showcased exceptional organisation and spirited competition, attracting wide community attention in the Al-Thumama area. Chairman of the Central Municipal Council, Mohammed bin Ali Al-Athba, praised the event, saying, “One of the tournament’s main objectives was to discover and develop young football talents by providing them with an opportunity to showcase their skills to the public and those interested in sports. This contributes to supporting the development of Qatari football and supplying clubs with promising talents for the future.” He highlighted the tournament’s growth in team participation, audience turnout, and match quality, noting the discipline and sportsmanship that strengthened bonds among the youth. He also commended Hassan bin Ali al-Ishaq, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, for his leadership and meticulous management, which ensured a safe and successful event. The Al-Thumama Championship, being held at Al Furjan Stadium in cooperation with the Qatar Sports for All Federation, is featuring 13 teams in the 10–14 age group. Meanwhile, Yousef Abdulnoor, Director of the tournament, confirmed its resounding success. “The upcoming matches in both groups will witness fierce competition for first and second place, as all four teams in each group have a chance to qualify for the semi-finals. Therefore, the coming days will be filled with exciting matches that will be enjoyed by the fans and followers of the Al Thumama Ramadan Tournament,” he said. He added: “The Al Thumama Ramadan Tournament has gained significant and positive recognition among a large segment of the community. Despite its limited resources and modest support, it has firmly established itself among Ramadan tournaments.” 

At its regular biweekly meeting Tuesday, the Central Municipal Council (CMC) addressed several pressing municipal and public service issues, notably traffic congestion around schools, livestock fodder subsidies, and the development of area signboards.The session was chaired by CMC chairman Mohamed bin Ali al-Athba and attended by council members at the main headquarters.A focus was the persistent traffic congestion near schools during peak hours, exacerbated by inadequate parking facilities. The council emphasised the need for co-ordinated action among relevant authorities to alleviate traffic blockages around educational institutions. Members reviewed recommendations from the Services and Public Utilities Committee, calling on concerned entities to implement them swiftly to improve traffic safety and reduce time lost to congestion.The session began with the approval of the minutes from the previous meeting and a review of incoming correspondence, with topics and referrals evaluated in preparation for necessary actions in accordance with established procedures.The council also examined the committee’s report on livestock fodder subsidies for local barn owners and breeders, underlining the importance of such support for sustaining livestock production and enhancing the viability of local businesses engaged in this vital sector.Additionally, the council discussed the need to upgrade area signboards nationwide. Members stressed that these signboards should reflect the urban character of their locations and facilitate easy access to various destinations across the country.The meeting included a dialogue with His Excellency Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, alongside senior ministry officials. Discussions centred on educational planning, school facilities, and the challenges posed by rapid population growth, traffic congestion, and the optimal distribution of schools in residential areas. This engagement provided a valuable platform for council members to raise inquiries, exchange views, and collaboratively explore ways to develop the educational environment in line with community needs. 

Stricter rules for cupping therapy services should be introduced to ensure the safety and quality of services provided, the Central Municipal Council (CMC) has stressed.CMC recently held the 48th meeting of its seventh term, chaired by His Excellency Mohamed bin Ali al-Athba, CMC Chairman, during which a proposal to make the Industrial Area and an independent municipality into a full administrative unit was presented.The meeting discussed several items on its agenda, as part of the council’s keenness to follow up on service-related and regulatory issues directly linked to the lives of residents and the quality of services provided.The council started its proceedings by approving the minutes of the previous meeting and reviewing incoming correspondence, reflecting the continuity of institutional work and the council’s follow-up on proposals and observations submitted within the scope of its mandate.Accordingly, the council discussed the recommendations and report of its Services and Public Utilities Committee regarding stricter oversight of cupping therapy practitioners.This discussion stemmed from the importance of regulating this activity and ensuring it is practised in accordance with approved health regulations to safeguard public safety and curb irregular practices that may pose a risk to public health.The council issued its recommendations to both the Ministry of Municipality and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.The meeting also addressed the recommendations and report of the Services and Public Utilities Committee regarding a review of procedures for issuing licences for rest houses within residential neighbourhoods.The views of the competent committee were reviewed regarding regulating this activity in a manner that balances residents’ needs with maintaining the residential qualities of neighbourhoods, while taking into account associated regulatory and environmental aspects. The council approved submitting the appropriate recommendations to both the Ministry of Municipality and Qatar Tourism.Meanwhile, the council reviewed the briefing by the Services and Public Utilities Committee on responses to the regulation of kiosks within shopping malls, placing greater emphasis on the importance of a clear regulatory framework that ensures optimal use of commercial spaces and preserves the general appearance and internal organisation of such malls.In addition, the meeting discussed several proposals to establish an independent municipality in the Industrial Area, aimed at regulating industrial activities, bringing them under unified management, and improving municipal services for industrial workshops and garages. 

Central Municipal Council (CMC) chairman Mohammed bin Ali al-Athba has affirmed that Qatar National Day (QND) represents one of the enduring milestones in the history of Qatar, as it embodies the values of loyalty, belonging, and adherence to the principles established by founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, which continues its steady journey under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani, and His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.Speaking to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), al-Athba said that the National Day celebration carries profound connotations and renews feelings of pride and honor in the nation and its leadership.He pointed out that the role of society in the development process is not less important than the role of official institutions, highlighting the importance of continuing collective work to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030 and build a strong and sustainable economy and a prosperous society.The CMC chairman added that National Day contributes to consolidating the values of loyalty, belonging, and love of the homeland, embodies the people's support for their wise leadership, and strengthens the spirit of national unity, in line with this year's National Day slogan, “With You It Rises, From You It Awaits”.He cited the CMC's key achievements in several areas this year, including strengthening co-ordination with government agencies to develop infrastructure projects and municipal services, adopting initiatives to improve institutional performance and apply quality and excellence standards, hosting officials of service agencies to discuss municipal and agricultural issues and make appropriate recommendations, and launching programmes that facilitate communication with citizens and receive their feedback.He noted that digitisation and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have become essential elements in the development of municipal services, with the CMC's efforts including recommendations to develop electronic systems and databases and activate smart systems to improve the quality of services and facilitate citizens' access to them.Regarding future projects, al-Athba said that the CMC is working on expanding digital services and enhancing citizens' access to them, in addition to introducing AI and data analytics technologies to proactively monitor community needs and improve the decision-making process.The CMC, he continued, is also working to support sustainable urban transport plans, develop internal roads and main entrances and exits, enhance communication channels with citizens through modern interactive platforms, implement awareness campaigns to preserve the environment and public facilities, expand environmental initiatives such as the creation of smart gardens and sustainable irrigation systems, and enhance co-operation with the private sector in infrastructure projects and digital services.
