The View Hospital performs first augmented reality knee replacement in the Middle East and Africa

The View Hospital in affiliation with Cedars-Sinai performs the first total knee replacement using Augmented Reality (AR) technology and Patient-Specific Instrumentation successfully in the Middle East and Africa.Led by Dr. Mohamed Al-Ateeq, a senior consultant orthopedic & knee surgeon at The View Hospital, one of the pioneer users of advanced Robotic technology in the region, the surgical team used the technology with precision and confidence, setting a new standard for how joint replacements can be performed in the region. Before surgery, Dr. Al-Ateeq used advanced imaging software to create a virtual 3D model of the patient's knee. This enabled the team to evaluate damaged bone and cartilage and determine the ideal placement for the implant, based on the patient’s individual anatomy.During the procedure, the Surgeon wears a pair of augmented reality glasses to view the patient’s specific knee anatomy in 3D. Two small sensors are attached to the patient’s leg to provide real-time soft tissue feedback, such as the tension of the ligaments. The AR-based platform enables the surgical team to easily adjust, better visualize and determine the accurate placement of the implant by the millimeter, given the patient’s specific anatomy, which is key to a successful knee replacement procedure.“Augmented reality gives us a more dynamic and three-dimensional visualization of the joint,” explained Dr. Al-Ateeq. “This advanced technology enhances surgical planning and allows us to position the implant precisely for each patient, tailoring the outcome to every patient and their specific needs.”The procedure marks the first use of augmented reality and patient-specific tools in joint replacement surgery in the region, bringing together advanced visualization with real-time guidance and custom-fitted surgical tools designed specifically for the patient.The ultra precise technology marks one of the most significant advancements in joint replacement surgery and has been recognized globally for improving clinical results and recovery experience.“This milestone reflect the advanced care we’re proud to offer at The View Hospital and our ongoing commitment to leading the way in orthopedic innovation in Qatar,” said Dr. Fatih Mehmet Gul, CEO, The View Hospital. “Our focus remains on clinical excellence and ensuring that world-class treatments are more accessible than ever for our patients.”The View Hospital’s ability to deliver such specialized care reflects its commitment to staying ahead of patient needs and bringing advanced surgical solutions to the country, treatments that were once only available abroad. About The View Hospital:The View Hospital in affiliation with Cedars-Sinai, is under the aegis of Apex Health, a subsidiary of Estithmar Holding. It is a modern healthcare institution that focuses on world-class clinical excellence with a mission to become the hospital of choice, providing the highest, measurable care to its clients. Building on its clinical excellence and international partnership approach with Cedars-Sinai, The View Hospital delivers outstanding clinical expertise through highly experienced multi-disciplinary professional teams and systems. With 240 single private suites, 10 operating rooms and 23 intensive care beds, The View Hospital provides primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare services. Our operating rooms are equipped with the most advanced technology, allowing us to do minimally invasive surgery and imaging during operations. For more information about The View Hospital, please visit Theviewhospital.com
