Anthony Joshua has said he would not celebrate that a deal has finally been struck for a heavyweight clash with rival Tyson Fury until after he won."I'm not pleased because the pleasure really comes after victory," said Joshua. "Signing a contract doesn't mean anything. Winning is the only true success."The pair are heading for a long-awaited 'Battle of Britain', probably in November, but before both boxers are eyeing a warm-up fight.Joshua will face unheralded Albanian Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on July 25 in his first bout since being involved in a car crash in Nigeria last December which killed two of his close friends.Fury last week posted a video in an Instagram story showing him back in training in Thailand alongside the caption: "Let's go August 1, Dublin, Ireland."Fury, 37, could take a place on a card being put together by veteran promoter Frank Warren in the Irish capital on that date.No opponent has yet been named, although Warren has ruled out Fury fighting Andy Ruiz Jr, who dethroned Joshua as world champion in 2019 before losing the rematch later that year. TIME TO GET BACKJoshua insisted it was time to get back to work as he prepares to take on little-known Prenga.The fight was originally scheduled to take place in Riyadh, but at their head-to-head press conference it was revealed it has been moved to Jeddah - Saudi Arabia's second largest city.The 36-year-old Joshua has not fought a meaningful opponent since being knocked out by Daniel Dubois in September 2024."What does boxing give me? It gives me an opportunity to work. I'm a contractor, this is a contract, this is my job so I've got an opportunity to work," Joshua said."You have to put a road map in front of a fighter and show them what is point one, point two, point three. It gives purpose and focus. I know what my year looks like."Give me the opportunity to fight Prenga, give me the opportunity to fight Fury, give me the opportunity to fight for the championship."It ain't about looking past anyone, it's just knowing your purpose and knowing your steps forward and moving up the ladder."I've got a clear goal, I know what this year is about, I know how tough this year is going to be. I've been training hard, that's my life." 

Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has posted on social media for the first time since a fatal car crash in Nigeria that killed two of his close friends. The 36-year-old British fighter was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck on a busy highway linking Lagos and Ibadan in southwest Nigeria last Monday. Joshua’s backroom team members Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami died in the crash, while the boxer sustained minor injuries. Joshua was taken to hospital before being discharged on Wednesday, later flying back to the UK ahead of the funerals of Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, and Ayodele, his personal trainer. The former two-time unified world heavyweight champion posted two images on Instagram on Sunday, sitting alongside his mother and three other women, one of whom clutched a photograph of Ghami. He captioned the post ‘My Brothers Keeper’. Joshua’s social media activity comes after Nigerian police charged the driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, with “dangerous driving causing death”. He is due to appear in court on January 20. Joshua, the 2012 Olympic champion, has family roots in Nigeria and was on holiday in the country following his win over Jake Paul in Miami on December 19. 

Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua knocked out YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in their controversial Netflix-backed bout in Miami on Friday.The fight at the Kaseya Center, which saw both men reportedly splitting a mammoth purse of $184mn, had triggered alarm across boxing due to the gulf in physical size and class between Britain's two-time former world champion Joshua and Paul, an internet personality who has forged a lucrative career through a handful of novelty boxing contests.In the event, however, Joshua made hard work of defeating his vastly less accomplished opponent, before his superior size and power eventually told in the later stages of the eight-round fight, with a sixth-round knockout. A lacklustre contest descended into farce at times, with Paul repeatedly dropping to the canvas and grappling at Joshua's legs.At one stage even referee Christopher Young appeared to be losing patience, warning the fighters in the fourth round: "The fans did not pay to see this crap." As Paul tired, the 6ft 6in (1.98m) tall Joshua began to land punches with more regularity, and after knocking down the 6ft 1in American twice in the fifth round, the end came swiftly in the sixth.Joshua backed the 28-year-old into a corner and, after teeing up Paul with a crunching left, delivered the knockout blow with a right to the chin that sent his opponent crashing to the canvas. "It wasn't the best performance," Joshua, 36, admitted afterwards. "But the end goal was to get Jake Paul, pin him down and hurt him. That was the request leading up, and that was on my mind. It took a bit longer than expected but the right hand finally found its destination."Joshua meanwhile praised Paul for lasting into the later rounds. "I want to give him his props – he got up time and time again," Joshua said. "It was difficult in there for him, but he kept on trying to find a way. It takes a real man to do that."Paul, meanwhile, his mouth bloodied from Joshua's final assault, said he believed his jaw had been broken – but was satisfied with his performance. "That was fun. I gave it my all," Paul said. "I had a blast. I think my jaw is broken by the way. But Anthony's one of the best to ever do it so. I'm gonna come back and get a world championship. I just got tired to be honest – like it was so much handling his weight. I think with better cardio I could have kept it up and kept on fighting. But he hits really hard."The American later confirmed in a post on social media, accompanied by an image of a radiograph, that he had suffered a "double broken jaw".Friday's made-for-streaming contest, which came just over a year after Paul had fought a 58-year-old Mike Tyson in a much-derided Netflix fight, had been widely panned throughout boxing, with many warning that Paul risked serious injury.Yet the devastating first or second round knockout by Joshua that most had predicted failed to materialise as Paul scrambled desperately to stay outside of the 2012 Olympic champion Joshua's range. Joshua, fighting for the first time in 15 months, always looked the more threatening fighter, landing 48 of 146 punches thrown compared to Paul's meagre total of 16 punches landed.The Briton is now turning his attention towards a money-spinning bout against compatriot and fellow former world champion Tyson Fury next year. "We shook off the cobwebs and I can't wait to roll into 2026," Joshua said. "And if Tyson Fury is as serious as he thinks he is, let's put on some gloves and fight."

The event is set to be streamed globally on Netflix and marks Paul’s second live appearance on the streaming platform following last year’s win over Mike Tyson.“This isn’t an AI simulation. This is Judgment Day. A professional heavyweight fight against an elite world champion in his prime,” Paul said in a statement, promising to put “Britain’s Goliath” to sleep.“When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears and no one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title. To all my haters, this is what you wanted. To the people of the United Kingdom, I am sorry.”Joshua, a 2012 Olympic gold medallist and two-time unified world champion, has a 28-4 record with 25 knockouts. However, he lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk and was knocked out by Daniel Dubois in September last year in an IBF heavyweight title bout - his last professional fight.Joshua said there would be “no mercy” when he enters the ring to face Paul. “I took some time out and I’m coming back with a mega show.
