August George displayed determination and sharp finishing speed to capture the Al Uqda Two-Year-Old Cup by the finest of margins Saturday.At the Al Uqda Racecourse, August George, in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed Salman al-Thani, secured his second win in four career starts, having finished runner-up in the other two, with a late surge that saw him clinch victory by a head in the over 1300m race for the thoroughbreds.The bay gelding, breaking smartly from barrier five, settled in a handy fourth and tracked the tempo set by Zabeel Flower, who dictated the pace throughout and remained in control until the home turn. Behind the leader, Dapper Charm, Silca Blue and Zoiros raced in close attendance though Silca Blue briefly lost his position before recovering.Approaching the turn, Zoiros moved up to take a narrow lead, prompting August George to begin closing steadily behind him. Once in the home straight, Sanna asked his mount to quicken and the response was immediate. August George surged forward to strike the front, but Silca Blue, racing in the colours of Sheikh Abdul Rahman Rashid al-Thani for the same trainer and ridden by last year’s winning jockey Marco Casamento, launched a powerful challenge on his outside.The pair drew right away from the rest, locked in an intense duel through the final 200m. They hit the line together in a pulsating finish, and for the second time in the evening, the outcome required the verdict of the photo finish. Dapper Charm, representing Saif Jassem A. Alsulaiti, trained by Hamad al-Jehani with Pierre Charles Boudot aboard, stayed on to finish third, four lengths behind the battling pair.Earlier, Ruling Master continued his remarkable progress with a second win in a row landing Race 1, the Thoroughbred Handicap (45–65) for three-year-old+ over 2200m (Class 6), run with 14 runners. The three-year-old bay gelding, carrying the colours of HE Meshaal bin Ali al-Attiyah, presented in good order by Jassim al-Ghazali and partnered by Marco Casamento, got off the mark with a well-timed 1½-length success.Zero Mostel broke sharply from barrier one to assume the early lead, followed by Devious Company, Katleiya and Kubey, who swept forward to take control passing the 1600m mark. The lead changed again when Devious Company pushed ahead at the 1400m though the field remained closely grouped at a steady tempo, with rider’s content to conserve energy for the long run home. As they approached the home turn, Ruling Master began to creep into contention, moving noticeably closer to the leading pack. Once in the straight, Overrule, racing for Abdulaziz Saleh al-Otaibi and trained by Mohammed Hassan al-Matwi with Abdulla Rashid al-Hajri aboard, quickened to take the lead and briefly appeared to hold the upper hand. However, in the tightly bunched closing stages, Ruling Master produced a decisive late burst. Cutting through from midfield, he surged past Overrule to seize the advantage and drew away with authority to secure victory. Thunder Valley, representing Maryam Abdulrahman al-Jaber for Hadi al-Ramzani with Lukas Delozier in the saddle, stayed on for third, three-quarters of a length behind the runner-up. 

Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Rashid al-Thani’s Aeon’s Aegis closed the card with a commanding display in the Thoroughbred Derby Trial for three-year-olds over 2100m, securing his second win in three starts in the season.At Al Uqda Racecourse Thursday, the three-year-old-gelding trained by Mohammed al-Ghazali was settled patiently before Soufiane Saadi unleashed him in the home straight. Aeon’s Aegis swept past his rivals one by one, hitting the front 100m from the line with a blazing turn of foot to score impressively by five lengths, giving Saadi a quick-fire double to conclude the evening.Rashid Saed Adiba, Head of QREC Racing Operations Section, crowned the winners.Mureb made his second start of the season with a hard-fought victory in the Purebred Arabian Derby Trial for four-year-olds over 2100m. The grey gelding, owned by Wathnan Racing and trained by Alban de Mieulle, was produced late by Soufiane Saadi and surged right on the line to secure the win by the narrowest of margins in a finish that kept everyone on edge. Mac’zoom Al Shahania ran a brave race to take second, while the result sealed a third triumph in the evening for the winning connections.Zah’ran Al Shahania remained unbeaten with another polished performance, winning the National Derby Trial for four-year-olds Local Purebred Arabians over 2100m. The bay gelding, owned by North Racing, travelled prominently throughout before quickening in the final 300m to assert his authority and win by 1½ lengths. Following his winning debut last week, he made it two from two and completed a quick-fire double on the evening for trainer Hamad al-Jehani and jockey Pierre Charles Boudot.Blessed Star broke her maiden in style in the Thoroughbred Oaks Trial for three-year-old fillies over 2100m. Representing Al Falah Stud, the bay filly travelled smoothly before digging deep in the final 100m to win a three-way battle by 1¼ lengths. Trained by Hamad al-Jehani — who secured the Oaks title for a second straight year—she was guided to victory by Boudot.
