The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) continues to implement Package 1 of the Remaining Roads and Infrastructure Works in Al Shamal, as part of its efforts to develop the road network and improve infrastructure services across the country.In a press statement, Engineer Ali Mostafawi, a project engineer in the Drainage Networks Projects Department at Ashghal, explained that the project aims to meet the needs of the growing population in Al Shamal by providing services to around 3,807 residential plots. He added that the area will witness improved traffic flow, enhanced connectivity to public facilities, and improved road safety for residents and visitors.Regarding the scope of works, Mostafawi said they include constructing and developing 87km of roads, with the aim of facilitating the movement of residents and linking the internal streets of the area with the main roads adjacent to it, such as Abu Dhalouf Street and Al Areesh Street, as well as Al Shamal and Al Ghariyah Roads.This is in addition to improving several vital streets leading to public and commercial facilities, most notably Al Ruwais Health Centre, Al Shamal Secondary School for Boys, and the commercial buildings adjacent to Abu Dhalouf Street.The project will activate 2,812 streetlights to enhance road safety throughout the area, along with 66km of sewage network upgrades to meet current and future needs. Maintenance work will also be carried out on the sewage pumping station to improve its efficiency and ensure continuous operation.Regarding the current works on site, excavation work is underway to lay lighting pole cables and activate the electricity substations that feed the main distribution panel. Ground levelling is also being carried out in preparation for asphalt paving to construct a new road connecting the area's internal streets to Abu Dhalouf Street. 

Defending champions Al Sadd beat a dogged Al Shamal 3-2 on Monday to retain the Qatar Stars League (QSL) crown. Playing in front of a partisan crowd of 12,324 fans, captain Akram Afif and his powerful side dominated proceedings in both halves to clinch the QSL crown on home soil at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. It is Al Sadd’s 19th QSL title win and third in a row. Even a draw would have sealed the fate in favour of points leaders Al Sadd but they looked for goals from the get-go. **media[439768]** A plucky effort from Afif opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Al Sadd’s first goal was followed by a slick strike from Brazilian Roberto Firmino two minutes later. Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah scored the first goal for Al Shamal in the 65th minute. Brazilian left-back Paulo Otavio added Al Sadd’s third goal two minutes later. Colombian Jeison Murillo Ceron scored off a penalty for Al Shamal in the 85th minute. Al Sadd, who signed Italian coach Roberto Mancini last November, clearly looked like a much stronger side against Al Shamal in the final match of the 2025-26 season. Former AFC Champions League winners, Al Sadd - backed by a vociferous crowd Monday - ended a satisfying season with 45 points from 22 games. Al Shamal, who were seeking their first QSL title, finished the league in second spot with impressive 40 points. Al Rayyan (38 points) finished third followed by Al Gharafa (36) in fourth. **media[439766]** Speaking after the title triumph, Mancini, 61, said Monday: “First of all, I would like to congratulate the players, the technical and administrative staff, and Al Sadd fans on this important title. Winning the league for the third consecutive time is not easy; it is the result of daily hard work and great commitment from everyone within the team. From the beginning of the season, we knew the challenge would be difficult, but the players showed strong character and a winning mentality that helped us overcome every obstacle.” A TENSE START FOR BOTH TEAMS The match got off to a tense start for both sides. Qatar national team player Tarek Salem of Al Sadd made a poor clearance in the third minute, allowing the ball to go for the game’s first corner. As the battle gathered steam, Bounedjah got elbowed by his former Al Sadd teammate Boualem Khoukhi in the third minute. Qatar national team skipper Afif seconds later found Brazilian teammate Firmino with a long ball from the left flank but Al Sadd’s Brazilian import failed to connect from close range. In the eighth minute, keeper Meshal Barsham easily collected a weak header from Algerian star and Al Shamal skipper Bounedjah inside the Al Sadd box after an assist by Waad. Both teams looked a little rough in the first 10 minutes even as Al Sadd skipper Afif gestured to his players to calm down. In the 15th minute, Al Shamal’s Spanish midfielder Alex Collado controlled the ball for about 20 yards, then unfurled a powerful shot from the edge of the Al Sadd box but the ball missed the target. A minute later, Al Sadd’s Otavio drilled a low shot from close range, but Al Shamal keeper Babacar blocked his effort. Shortly afterwards, the script changed for Al Sadd. Al Sadd’s Afif opened the scoring in the 20th minute. After a short dribble past Musaab Khidir, Afif aimed at the goal with a low shot from inside the box but Al Shamal defender Omid Ebrahimi deflected the ball into his own net. With celebrations barely dying down in the stands after the first goal, Al Sadd doubled the lead through Firmino in the 22nd minute. Firmino latched on to a short pass from Claudinho and slipped a low ball to the right of Al Shamal keeper. Shortly after the half-hour mark, Al Shamal’s Mohamed Naceur Manai produced a slick bicycle kick from the edge of the box but Al Sadd keeper Barsham smartly collected the ball. In the 38th minute, Al Sadd could have scored their third goal but Claudinho’s powerful shot from inside the box hit the Al Shamal goalpost and ricocheted away. In injury time, Bounedjah was a fraction of a second late on a close-range shot, but Al Sadd’s Otavio blocked the move. **media[439767]** In the last move of the first half, Bounedjah’s header from very close range - following a set piece situation - went above the Al Sadd crossbar. Four minutes into the second half, disaster struck Al Shamal when Algerian defender Abdessamed Bounacer received a red card from 2026 FIFA World Cup-bound referee Mohammed al-Jassim for a tackle on Afif. In the 56th minute, Firmino rifled in a powerful shot that narrowly missed the Al Shamal crossbar. Seconds later, Brazilian forward Giovani also took a long-range shot that keeper Babacar smartly parried away. At the one-hour mark, Al Shamal’s Omar Mohammed aimed with a left-footed drive from an acute angle inside the box but his shot slipped past the Al Sadd goalpost from close range. Bounedjah, the untiring Algerian, reduced the deficit for Al Shamal with a solo run of about 30 yards into the Al Sadd box. With Agustin Silvera shado Al Shamal scored a crucial 4-1 win over Al Kharaitiyat in their Round 10 match of the QSL Cup 2025-26 season at the Grand Hamad Stadium Tuesday. The victory fetched Al Shamal three valuable points and took their tally to 15 while Al Kharaitiyat remained on 13 points. Tamer Seyam, Mohammed Waad, Omar Ali and Adam Ounas were on target for Al Shamal, while Rodrigo Tabata (Penalty) scored Al Kharaitiyat’s only goal. Al Waab 2-1 Al Shahania A stoppage time goal saw Al Waab edge Al Shahania 2-1 in their Round 10 match of the QSL Cup at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium. The important win saw Al Waab take their tally to 18 points while Al Shahania remained on 17 points. Abdulrahman Mohamed and Baha Faisal were on target for Al Waab while Artur George scored for Al Shahania. Al Shahania also lost a player in the 63rd minute after being flashed with a red card. Al Markhiya and Wakrah in 1-1 draw Earlier, Al Markhiya and Al Wakrah shared a 1-1 draw at the Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Stadium. While Y Njie scored for Al Markhiya in the opening half, R Burkan equalised for Al Wakrah in the second session. Al Markhiya moved to 18 points with the draw, while Al Wakrah’s tally moved to 6 points.

Al Shamal handed Umm Salal a 5-0 thrashing in the Qatar Stars League at the Al Khor Stadium Saturday to go second in the table behind leaders Al Gharafa.Their fifth win of the league took Al Shamal’s tally to 17 points to be second in the standings, ahead of Qatar SC on goal difference. Umm Salal with a sixth loss are in 11th with 6 points while Al Gharafa are at the top with 19 points.Umm Salal were also reduced to 10-man in the 88th minute when Diyab Haroon Taha was sent off for a foul against Baghdad Bounedjah.In what a forgettable day for them, Umm Salal also suffered from two goalkeeping errors at the start which saw Al Shamal go up with a 2-0 lead before they added three more to the scoreline. Al Shamal led 3-0 at half time.Alex Collado (11th & 54th minutes), Issoufou Dayo – Own Goal (18th minute), Badghdad Bounedjah (38th minute), and Moufak Awad (90th minute) contributed the goals.Umm Salal goalkeeper Jehad Mohammad Hudib had a horror when a powerful Collado kick went through his hands and legs. Seven minutes later, there was more trouble as Hudib failed to read a back pass from Dayo, getting beaten to his right as the ball rolled into the net. Al Sailiya with 6 points are in tenth.Julian Draxler scored a brace (27th & 90 +1 minute - penalty) to bounce Al Ahli back to winning ways while Al Sailiya’s only goal was scored by Youssef Sinana (45 + 3 minute) via a penalty.Draxler’s made a stunning right-footed shot from the right side of the box to open the scoring, while Al Sailiya’s Sinana restored parity via a spot kick just before half time after Al Ahli’s Hilal Mohammed handled the ball in the danger area. With the match heading for a draw, Draxler, once again, made the difference as he scored from the spot at the stroke of regulation time to give The Brigadiers an important victory.

Qatar SC scored a hard fought 1-0 win over Al Shahania in the fifth round of Qatar Stars League at the Khalifa International Stadium Sunday to take the second spot in the standings with 13 points, and behind Al Shamal on goal difference.Al Rayyan beat Al Ahli 3-0 at the Al Thumama Stadium to move third in the table with 10 points, ahead of Al Gharafa on goal difference.At the Al Bayt Stadium Umm Salal prevailed 2-1 over Al Sailiya. Umm Salal are now 6th in standings with 8 points while bottom-placed Sailiya are yet to open their account.Brazilian forward Joao Pedro made the winning strike for Qatar SC in the 54th minute as he picked on an Eisa Palangi assist to dribble past defenders before essaying a kick from inside the top of the box into the far right corner of the net.Al Shahania, who were majorly confined to defence, made some big efforts to attack in the second half including a Daouda Soliman’s attempt to go over an advancing Qatar SC goalkeeper Ali Nader Mahmoud but in vain.Al Shahania are on four points following their third loss while Qatar SC have four wins and a draw in their unbeaten run so far.The Lions make a roarAl Rayyan handed Al Ahli a 0-3 defeat taking lead in the 29th minute through Rodrigo Machado, who finished off a pass from Wesley Ribeiro with a left-footed shot from very close range. Defending champions Al Sadd’s unbeaten run continued but they were held to a 2-2 draw by Al Wakrah while Al Duhail thrashed Al Arabi 8-1 in the Qatar Stars League Saturday. Meanwhile, Al Shamal stayed top of the table even as their perfect start ended in a goalless stalemate with Al Gharafa.Redounae Berkane’s brace rescued a point for fourth-placed Al Wakrah against Al Sadd at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. Sadd are in sixth place.Akram Afif opened the scoring for Al Sadd in the 18th minute with a sensational curling right-footed shot from the left side of the box after Al Wakrah's defence failed to properly clear a loose ball.With a goal up, Al Sadd were in cruise control from thereon until Ahmed Suhail appeared to have conceded a penalty in the 34th minute following what seemed to be a foul on Al Wakrah’s Hamdy Fathy in the penalty area. The initial call was, however, rescinded after a VAR check.Four minutes later, Al Sadd extended their advantage as Giovani Henrique found the back of the net after seizing the ball from Al Wakrah’s Lucas Mendes and executing a left-footed shot from the center of the box.Al Wakrah had a chance to reduce the deficit in the 55th minute when Lucas Verissimo was brought down by Al Sadd’s Pau Prim in the penalty area. Sarabia equalized for Al Arabi, striking on a second attempt against defenders.Al Hussain’s header while defending conceded an own goal as Al Duhail regained lead at 2-1 and just did not stop from there on. Al Brake struck a long ranger for the spectacular third goal.Boulbina also showed presence of mind as he flicked one over the goalkeeper for his team’s fifth goal.Al Duhail’s Piatek missed a penalty strike in the ninth minute shooting wide left of the target and later he struck the top left post in the 41st minute.At the Khalifa International Stadium, Al Shamal and Al Gharafa played a goalless draw. The captivating match puts an end to Al Shamal's impeccable 100 per cent win rate, having lost points for the first time in the season. They hold a three-point advantage over Qatars SC, who are in action Sunday.The encounter featured numerous missed opportunities in the first half, prominent was Al Shamal’s Baghdad Bounedjah’s obvious sitter, which he disappointingly directed at the goalkeeper, followed by a rebound that he headed against the post in the 37th minute, much to the dismay of the entire stadium.The latter half closely resembled the initial one, as both teams had chances to overturn the stalemate but failed to capitalise on them.With the match seemingly winding down, Al Gharafa’s Ferjani Sassi missed the last obvious chance of the day after his header from the centre of the box, following an assist by Yacine Brahimi in one minute of added time, went just inches wide to the left.
