The Ministry of Municipality Ramadan Football Championship 2026 kicked off on Sunday at Al Sadd Club’s Stadiums, with the participation of teams representing various sectors of the ministry and municipalities, in a competitive atmosphere that reflects the spirit of co-operation among employees.The tournament will continue until early March. The opening matches saw the Agricultural Affairs and Food Security Sector team defeat the Doha Municipality team with a score of (6-1). Meanwhile, the Al Khor Municipality team secured a win against the Al Rayyan Municipality team with a score of (5-3), marking a strong start to the tournament, which will proceed according to the approved schedule leading up to the final match.

Defending champions Al Sadd scored a comfortable 3-1 win over table toppers Al Gharafa in the Qatar Stars League at the Thani Bin Jassim Stadium to cut down the gap to two points. Goals from Roberto Firmino (47th minute), Giovani Henrique (55th minute) and Akram Afif (90th +5 minute) helped propel The Wolves to 29 points in the standings, just behind Al Gharafa on 31 points.After a goalless first half, Al Sadd, who were recently crowned winners of the Qatar-UAE Super Cup’s Super Shield following their thrilling 3-2 defeat of UAE's Shabab Al Ahli, set the ball rolling for what ended up as an exciting win for Italian coach Roberto Mancini's team.Firmino latched on to a cross from Giovani that somehow managed to elude all of Al Gharafa's defenders to tap into a empty end. Al Sadd’s second and third goals were both beautiful display of fine teamwork that were perfectly finished to make the race for title more interesting. Al Gharafa's consolation goal came from Ayoub Al Oui, who pulled one back for The Cheetahs in the 65th minute with a powerful header from a cross by Amro Abdelfatah Surag.Pedro brace in Qatar SC winEarlier, Brazilian Joao Pedro scored a brace while Mohamed Emad Aiash scored one goal as Qatar SC prevailed over Al Ahli 3-1 at the Al Thumama Stadium. Aiash opened the scoring for the Kings in the 16th minute before Joao Pedro struck in the 48th and 72nd minutes.Aiash made a successful header after Al Ahli goalkeeper had blocked a first Niall Mason attempt following corner kick. Pedro broke in into the striking zone first from the right, and later from the left to register his two goals.Al Ahli’s consolation goal came from Driss Fettouhi, who drilled home a long ranger in the 87th minute. The win saw Qatar SC move up seventh with 20 points whereas Al Ahli remained ninth on 15 points. 

Al Sadd midfielder Mustafa Meshaal has become the latest Qatari footballer to move abroad after joining Belgian side KAS Eupen on loan until the end of the season.The move follows last week’s agreement between Spanish second division club Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa and Al Duhail for the loan of defender Homam al-Amin for the remainder of the campaign.Both transfers form part of the Qatar Football Association’s plan to send selected players overseas as part of preparations for this summer’s FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The programme is also expected to include players who are not yet regular starters for their respective clubs.KAS Eupen compete in the Challenger Pro League, the second tier of Belgian football, and are owned by Qatar Sports Investments. The club was previously under the Aspire Zone Foundation, which also hold a 99 percent controlling stake in Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa.In a statement issued Thursday, KAS Eupen said Meshaal “has good vision of the game and high passing accuracy” and can operate in central midfield in both attacking and defensive roles.The 24-year-old has been with Al Sadd since 2019, winning the Qatar Stars League four times. He has earned 25 international caps and was part of Qatar’s squad that lifted the AFC Asian Cup in 2023.Meanwhile, full-back al-Amin has previously played for KAS Eupen as well as Qatari clubs including Al Gharafa and Al Duhail. A full international since 2019, he represented Qatar at the Concacaf Gold Cup in 2021, the FIFA World Cup in 2022 and the Asian Cup triumph in 2023. 

The Organizing Committee for Qatar-UAE Super Cup unveiled details of the tournament’s third edition, which brings together clubs from Qatar and the UAE, at a Press Conference held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the Torch Hotel. Present were representatives of Organizing Committee – Ahmed Al Adsani, Director of Competitions, Abdullah al-Minhali, Facility Manager, and Ali Hassan Al Salat, Media Manager. The conference reviewed preparations for the two matches to be held in Doha – Al Gharafa vs Sharjah (UAE) in Super Cup and Al Sadd vs Shabab Al Ahli in Super Shield.Al-Minhali confirmed that the Al Gharafa vs Sharjah match would be played on January 22 (kick-off 7pm) at Thani Bin Jassim Stadium, with gates opening to fans at 4pm.He emphasized the readiness of facilities and the full co-ordination with security authorities. He added that the Al Sadd vs Shabab Al Ahli match (kick-off 7pm) would be played on January 24 at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, confirming that designated fan zones have been set up at both stadiums, and fan activities and prize draws would be organized in co-ordination with competing clubs. On his part, Al-Adsani explained that the tournament features four teams from each country. He noted that the matches are played in a knockout format, with penalty kicks immediately following a draw at the end of regular time. The tournament winners will receive a cash prize of QR4mn and runners-up QR2mn. He emphasized that there are incentives specifically designed to encourage attendance and enhance the tournament’s competitive atmosphere. The Organizing Committee reviews the regulations after each edition and works to improve the tournament’s technical and organizational aspects to ensure the best possible outcome. Al-Salat said the tickets had been on sale since January 11 through online platforms of UAE Pro League and Qatar Stars League. He explained that 75 per cent of the tickets for Al Sadd vs Shabab Al Ahli match and 50 per cent of the tickets for Al Gharafa vs Sharjah match had already been sold out, with sales expected to increase on conclusion of Week 13 of Doha Bank Stars League. He added the co-ordination with Hayya platform to issue media accreditation cards in the coming days, noting that Al Kass channels would broadcast the matches as Host Broadcaster along with Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi channels, using more than 20 cameras to cover the event. Al-Salat thanked the tournament’s official sponsors, most notably Visit Qatar, official sponsor for three seasons, Air Arabia as official airline sponsor, Ooredoo as telecommunications partner, and Jetour Motors in addition to fan zones set up by companies such as Hardee’s, Red Bull and Jetour on the sidelines of competitions. 

Al Sadd staged a stunning fightback as they came from two goals down to beat Shabab Al Ahli 4-2 in their AFC Champions League Elite tie at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.Goals from Federico Cartabia and Yahya al-Ghassani looked to have secured Shabab Al Ahli their round of 16 spot but Rafa Mujica struck a hat-trick with Tarek Salman contributing the fourth as Al Sadd registered their first win of the season to their hopes alive.Qatar’s Al Sadd made four changes from their last match with Boualem Khoukhi and Pedro Miguel coming into the lineup with Tarek Salman starting from the bench, while Breno Lemos and Gaston Alvarez returned to Shabab Al Ahli’s midfield with Mateus Lima up front. UAE’s Shabab Al Ahli almost went ahead in the opening minute when Alvarez squared the ball nicely for Cartabia, who could not get to the end of the cross from inside the six-yard-box.The home side went close in the 12th minute when Akram Afif played the ball to Giovani, who weaved his way into the box but fired his effort wide of the left post, while Yuri Cesar forced Al Sadd keeper Meshaal Barsham into a low save moments later.Roberto Mancini’s side stayed calm just before the half-hour mark with Cartabia, Lima and Guilherme Bala all piling on the pressure from inside the area, while a careless backpass from Salman was almost intercepted by Lima but Bersham was quick to clear the danger.Al Sadd were also wasteful upfront with Giovani pulling his effort over the bar after a fine team move in the 42nd minute while at the other end, Barsham was on top of his game again when he deflected Lima’s stinging shot after Bala’s set-up in first half stoppage time.Cesar then came close to finding the opener when he played a neat exchange with Bala at the edge of the area before falling to connect to the midfielder’s cutback.Al Sadd were left stunned two minutes after the break when Mersad Seifi delivered a pinpoint cross to the far post, allowing Cartabia to power home the opener past a rooted Bersham. Shabab Al Ahli almost doubled their tally in the 53rd minute after Cesar played a well-timed through ball for Lima, who struck his shot past Bersham only for the ball to bounce off the bar.The pressure finally told on Al Sadd as they conceded a penalty following Miguel’s foul on Cartabia, with Al Ghassani converting from the spot in the 70th minute. Al Sadd responded five minutes later after a quick throw-in left Afif with space on the left and the forward set-up Mujica to strike past Hamad Al Meqbaali.Boosted by the goal, Al Sadd pushed forward and drew level in the fifth minute of time added on with Salman finishing off Roberto Firmino’s layoff. There was more to come as a lapse in concentration by Shabab Al Ahli saw Mujica weave his way through before slotting past Al Meqbaali six minutes later with Afif then setting up the Spaniard for his hat-trick in the 13th minute of added time to complete the amazing victory.
