Al Sadd are continuing their preparations for the 2026-2027 season at their pre-season camp in Linz, Austria, which began on July 13 and continues until August 7 as they gear up for domestic and continental competitions.Under Romanian coach Razvan Lucescu, Al Sadd are undergoing a comprehensive training programme that includes four friendly matches, aimed at improving the players’ readiness and helping them reach their peak performance before the start of season. In their first friendly, they lost 1-2 to Czech club SK Sigma Olomouc.The camp includes a total of 26 players, such as Roberto Firmino, Akram Afif, Claudinho, Paulo Otavio, Abdessamed Bounacer, Augustin Soria, Giovani Henrique, Rafa Mujica, Guilherme Torres, Hassan al-Haydous, Meshaal Barsham, Saad al-Dossari, Boualem Khoukhi, Tarek Salman and Hashim Ali besides technical and administrative staff.Al Sadd enter the new season on a high after winning the 2025-2026 Doha Bank Stars League title (third successive title and 19th overall) following a 3-2 victory over Al Shamal in the final round of competition. In the process, The Wolves also enjoyed a 10-match winning streak, the longest by any team last season.Al Sadd finished with 45 points from 14 wins, three draws and five defeats, while scoring 56 goals and conceding 30.Lucescu affirmed that Al Sadd are one of the biggest clubs in Asia and the region, adding that the team aspires to compete for all titles in the new season, most notably AFC Champions League Elite and Amir Cup, while maintaining their identity and attacking style on the field.Last season also saw Akram being crowned the Best Player at Qatar Football Association (QFA) Awards for 2025-2026 season, while Al Sadd bagged the Best Fans Award. They also won the Qatar-UAE Super Cup’s Super Shield by beating Shabab Al Ahli 3-2.Al Sadd will open their Qatar Stars League campaign against Al Ahli at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on August 22. 

Al Sadd announced on Sunday the appointment of Romanian coach Razvan Lucescu as head coach of the club's first football team on a two-year contract through 2028. In a statement on its official website, the club said Lucescu's appointment is part of its strategy to build on recent success and strengthen the team's position at both the domestic and continental levels, in line with the ambitions of the club and its supporters. The club said Lucescu's coaching staff will include three assistant coaches, fitness coaches, a goalkeeping coach and a performance analyst.Lucescu succeeds Italian coach Roberto Mancini, who left the club in June after leading Al Sadd to the Qatari league title last season. The Romanian previously managed El Jaish during the 2012-13 season, guiding the Qatari club to the Round of 16 in its first appearance in the AFC Champions League. He later coached Romanian side Petrolul Ploiesti and Greek clubs Xanthi and PAOK before taking charge of Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal from 2019 to 2021.

The Gulf Creativity Forum kicked off at Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena at Al Sadd Sports Club in Doha Sunday. The event, organised by Doha Girls Centre in collaboration with the Youth Organ of Al Sadd Sports Club, is held under the mantra of Gulf energies and creative prospects, in pursuit of promoting the spirit of joint Gulf belonging. Participating in this forum are young men and women from the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) states, aiming to strengthen innovation and highlight the role of Gulf youth as powerful partners in societal development. Doha Girls Centre director Sheikha Hussein said that this forum represents a platform that assembles Gulf young energies in a shared creative space that demonstrates the spirit of collaboration among the peoples of GCC nations. The centre, she added, acknowledges that true investment starts from people, as young people are the core pillar of development who chart the future. The forum stands as a space for conversation to showcase young initiatives as an opportunity for sharing successful expertise, Hussein noted, emphasising that it would foster the shared Gulf identity, as well as values of cooperation, giving, and societal responsibility. She thanked the Ministry of Youth and Sports for its unwavering support of youth initiatives and programmes. Speaking to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Head of Al Sadd Sports Club’s Youth Organ Maryam al-Yousef said this hosting is intended to support youth initiatives, foster youth projects, as well as consolidate communication and the sharing of expertise among innovators from GCC nations. The forum, she added, has been a rich platform to showcase inspiring youth experiences, including six initiatives and six projects from GCC nations, which together demonstrate promising young energies and creative perspectives capable of making a positive impact on Gulf societies. Al-Yousef further noted that the Youth Department at Al Sadd Club is set to launch its summer programme from July 4 until mid-August, within a vision aimed at delivering high-quality programmes that combine knowledge, skills, and meaningful recreation. She highlighted that the programme primarily targets the 15-39 age group, with several activities also dedicated to younger age categories. The forum featured a theatrical performance titled When Dreams Spoke, which addressed youth and community issues in a creative format, reflecting the forum’s message and objectives of enhancing awareness and strengthening community engagement. The forum also featured a dialogue session on “How Do We Create a Shared Gulf Impact”, featuring Qimam Initiative chief executive and founding member Maha al-Jassim and Al-Shayma al-Awadi, vice-president of the Bunyan Social Service Club. The forum also dedicated a “For a Sustainable Gulf” pavilion, featuring environmental initiatives and practical workshops on recycling, aimed at strengthening environmental awareness and embedding sustainability concepts among young people. 

Al Sadd's Akram Afif, Al Rayyan’s Mahmoud Abunada and Al Rayyan's Roger Guedes with their trophies at the QFA Awards ceremony held at Raffles Hotel Doha Monday. Afif won the Best Player award for the sixth time. Abunada won the Best Goalkeeper award while Guedes clinched the Mansour Muftah Award for being the top scorer (21 goals) in the 2025-26 season.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani attended the 2026 Amir Cup final Saturday as Al Gharafa defeated Al Sadd 4-1 at the iconic Khalifa International Stadium.Following the match, His Highness presented Al Gharafa players with the Amir Cup trophy and gold medals, while Al Sadd received the silver medals.The final was also attended by His Highness Personal Representative of HH the Amir Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa al-Thani, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al-Thani, His Excellency Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa al-Thani, His Excellency Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim, along with a number of Their Excellencies sheikhs and ministers.Among those present were senior officials from friendly countries, heads of Arab and international sports federations, members of the media and football supporters.In what turned out to be a commanding performance, Al Gharafa completed a 4-1 win in front of 37,823 fans. Captain Yacine Brahimi, the Algerian veteran, scored a hat-trick of goals. He scored in the 27th, 63rd and 90 +1 minutes. The first goal for Al Gharafa was scored by Tunisian Ferjani Sassi.For Al Sadd, the only goal of the match was scored in the 89th minute by Javairô Dilrosun.Saturday's win was Al Gharafa ninth Amir Cup title glory. Al Sadd have won Qatar's most prestigious football title 19 times."It is an amazing feeling. Winning two times in a row is really amazing. This group of players was the main focus. We had a strong mentality for this game. We know nothing less than a win will do for our fans," Brahimi, the Man of the Match, said Saturday. "We came to the stadium to win the Amir Cup final. It was a tough game. I thought we did amazingly. We wanted to give something to our fans because we couldn't win the league (title) but we had to do something great and we did," he added.

Al Sadd coach Roberto Mancini expressed deep pride after leading his side to the Qatar Stars League title for the third consecutive season on Monday, stressing that the achievement reflected 'the significant work carried out within the club throughout the campaign, as well as the team’s stability and continuous development'. On Monday Al Sadd beat Al Shamal 3-2 in the final round of the QSL campaign at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha. Al Sadd have now won the league crown for the 19th time.  Speaking after the title triumph, Mancini, 61, said on Monday: “First of all, I would like to congratulate the players, the technical and administrative staff, and Al Sadd fans on this important title. Winning the league for the third consecutive time is not easy; it is the result of daily hard work and great commitment from everyone within the team. From the beginning of the season, we knew the challenge would be difficult, but the players showed strong character and a winning mentality that helped us overcome every obstacle.”**media[439756]**Mancini, who joined Al Sadd last November, added on Monday: “What distinguishes Al Sadd this season is that we did not rely on one player or a specific group. We had a complete team capable of finding solutions in different situations. We were the most consistent in terms of performance compared to other teams, and we were able to impose our playing style in most matches. This reflects the great work done by the players in daily training.” Mancini also noted that the title race was highly competitive, saying: “This season’s league was full of challenges, and all teams performed well. What made the difference for us was our high level of focus and constant desire to win. When you have a group that believes in what it does and works with a unified spirit, results come naturally in the end.”**media[439757]**He concluded in a story posted on Al Sadd website: “I am also proud of the individual development many players have shown throughout the season. We saw clear improvement in physical, technical, and mental aspects, which is an important part of the team’s project. Success is not only about winning titles, but also about developing players and maintaining the team’s identity.”
