ASD annual choral festival showcases unity, celebration

The American School of Doha (ASD) hosted its fourth annual Sing Out Primary Choral Festival recently, bringing together young singers from schools across Qatar for a day of music, unity, and celebration.This year’s festival highlighted the power of collective singing as one voice and the joy that comes from making music together, a statement saidThe festival showcased mass choir performances conducted and led by Brita Fray, featuring over 300 students from Doha English Speaking School, Al Khor International School, Park House English School, Dukhan English School, Qatar International School, GEMS Wellington School, and the American School of Doha.Supporting them were ASD Lower and Upper Elementary music teachers Sanae Yamaura, Jennie Andreasen, and Lisa Cheung. Guided by their dedicated music educators, students filled the theatre with uplifting choral repertoire that reflected collaboration, harmony, unity, and shared purpose.The event also featured an ensemble of guest musicians whose artistry elevated the performances and added vibrant energy to the festival.The event was supported by ASD's administration comprising director Dr Victor Guthrie; Upper Elementary School principal Brian Donaldson; Upper Elementary associate principal Selina Peay-Collins; Lower Elementary principal Craig Campbell; Lower Elementary associate principal Abigail Kasky; and associate director of athletics and activities Trent Howell.

Firmino hat-trick as Al Sadd subdue Umm Salal 8-3

Robert Firmino registered a hat-trick as Al Sadd humbled Umm Salal 8-3 in the Qatar Stars League at the Al Khor Stadium. The defending champions led 3-2 at half time.Firmino scored in the 24th, 65th and 70th minutes of the match while Akram Afif (28th minute), Rafa Mujica (43rd minute), Giovani Henrique (48th minute), Claudinho (73rd minute), and Agustin Silvera (80th minute) contributed a goal each.For Umm Salal, Edidiong Essien (31st minute), Jean Evrard Kouassi (45+5 minute), and Sayed Hassan Issa (90+3 minute) were on target. The mercurial Afif besides scoring one goal was also instrumental in initiating two other strikes, and provided assists in two more.Veteran Hassan al-Haydos made an assist for Firmino to complete his hat-trick. The big margin win was Al Sadd’s fourth of the league and took their tally to 14 points to prop them two places up into 5th while Umm Salal remain 11th with six points after a seventh loss.Al Sailiya rally to hold Duhail 2-2Al Duhail threw away a two-goal lead and were held to a 2-2 draw by Al Sailiya at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium. The Red Knights were in cruise control in the first half with two superb goals, a stunning opener from Krzysztof Piątek in the 38th minute and another great goal by Edmilson Junior in the 43rd minute, before Al Sailiya turned the situation around in the second half through Khaled Ali who secured the equalizer within three minutes (58th minute) and (61st minute).Al Duhail, who advanced to 12 points to be 7th in standings, were guilty of several missed opportunities, while Al Sailiya, who have been suffering from inconsistent performances, count themselves lucky to have escaped with a point that moved them to 7 points and 10th place in the standings.

Al-Muhannadi strikes winner as Al Shahania edge Al Khor

Al Shahania secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Al Khor in their Round 5 clash of the QSL Cup at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium on Saturday. Ali al-Muhannadi scored the winner for Shahania in the 77th minute after both sides were locked 2-2 at half time. Shahania had opening the scoring in the 19th minute through Jawad El Jemili while Pelle van Amersfoort put the side 2-0 ahead scoring off a penalty kick in the 27th minute. Al Khor hit back through Abdulrahman al-Harazi in the 42nd minute, and a minute later Sofiane Hanni got the equaliser. But al-Muhannadi struck to help Al Shahania gain the three valuable points. The second win of the tournament took Al Shahania’s tally to 7 points while Al Khor also remain at 7 points. Al Shamal thrash MarkhiyaAl Shamal thumped Al Markhiya 5-0 at the Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium. Shamal got their opening goal in the eighth minute through Naim Sliti. They doubled their lead in the 23rd minute as Younes El Hannach scored. Alex Collado added a third in the 45th minute. An own goal from Markhiya’s Ahmad Ismal (75th minute) added to Shamal’s scoreline. Mohamad Omar hit one home in added time (90+1 minute) to make it 5-0 for the winners. This was Al Shamal’s first win of the tournament and took their tally to 5 points while Al Markhiya remain on 4 points. Mesaimeer, Lusail draw Mesaimeer and Lusail played out a 1-1 draw at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. Mesaimeer’s Abdulkader Zoukh scored in the 12th minute, capitalising on some defensive errors by Lusail. The goal was the only difference between the sides for quite a while until Tamim al-Jabri secured the equaliser for Lusail in the 72nd minute to push them to four points in the standings, while Mesaimeer advanced to five points. Al Rayyan, Al Waab share points Al Rayyan and Al Waab played out a 2-2 draw at the Thani Bin Jassim Stadium. Al Waab took an early lead through Abdulrahman Sheikh Khan, who struck in the fifth minute to give his side a 1-0 advantage at halftime. Al Rayyan turned the game around early in the second half, with Brazilian forward Wesley Da Silva scoring twice in quick succession — in the 54th and 58th minutes — to put the Lions ahead. However, Al Waab snatched a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time when Mohammed Abu Shanab capitalised on a goalkeeping error to make it 2-2. With the result, Al Rayyan moved to 10 points, while Al Waab reached 6 points in the group standings.

Partial closure on Al Corniche Street in Al Khor

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a temporary partial closure in one direction of Al Corniche Street in Al Khor in both lanes heading from Ain Heltan Roundabout towards Al Ghawas Street from 12 midnight to 5am daily from September 26 until October 5.During the closure that will be implemented in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic, users of Al Corniche Street can use Al Thakira Street and the surrounding and internal roads to reach their destinations.

Cleaning campaigns protect wild meadows north of Qatar

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change's Department of Land Protection has carried out a comprehensive cleaning campaign in the northern area, north of Al Khor, in particular in Wadi Mhari, as part of a series of field campaigns aimed at cleaning natural reserves and wild meadows across the country. Several field teams participated in the campaign, collecting, sorting, and disposing of waste in designated locations to safeguard the natural environment and enhance the beauty of wild meadows and natural areas. The ministry called on all visitors to natural reserves and wild meadows to adopt sound environmental practices by not leaving waste behind and disposing it in designated bins, thereby maintaining the cleanliness of these natural sites and preserving them for future generations.
