The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) at Qatar Chamber presented recommendations of the ‘6th World Conference on Arbitration’ on Advance Dispute Resolution (ADR).QICCA secretary general Ibrahim Shahbek presented the recommendations during the closing session Wednesday, in the presence of QICCA vice chairman Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani, and a group of judges, arbitrators, and legal experts from around the world.The recommendations emphasised strengthening complementarity between the judiciary and arbitration, modernising arbitration legislation, and establishing guidelines for the responsible use of artificial intelligence in arbitral proceedings while safeguarding confidentiality, privacy, and the independence and impartiality of arbitrators.They also called for encouraging arbitration centres to adopt modern technologies, promoting mediation and other amicable dispute resolution methods, particularly in investment disputes, and upholding the highest standards of integrity, independence, impartiality, and professional ethics.Furthermore, the recommendations highlighted the importance of training young arbitrators and mediators, enhancing women's participation in arbitration, and expanding cooperation among arbitration centres, judicial institutions, and academic bodies across the Gulf and Arab regions. Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani, who is also chairman of QICCA, attended part of the sessions of the closing day and met with a number of participants.The conference also stressed the need to exchange expertise, publish relevant arbitral awards and judicial principles, and continue research and professional dialogue to shape the future of arbitration while balancing technological progress with the requirements of justice.On the sidelines of the conference’s closing day, QICCA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ras Al Khaimah Centre for Mediation and Arbitration at the Ras Al Khaimah Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the UAE.Shahbek signed the MoU on behalf of QICCA, while Dr Ibrahim Shawqi Jawhar signed on behalf of the Ras Al Khaimah Centre. The signing ceremony was attended by Abdullah al-Qamzi, ambassador of the UAE to Qatar; Sheikh Dr Thani; Ali Bu Sherbak al-Mansouri, acting general manager of Qatar Chamber; and Dr Rashid al-Nuaimi, director general of Ras Al Khaimah Chamber.

The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) at Qatar Chamber will host the ‘6th World Conference on International Arbitration’ on November 3–4 at the Fairmont Doha Hotel.Under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, the conference will be held under the theme: ‘ADR in a Changing World: From Judicial Oversight to AI’.Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani, vice chairman of QICCA and chairman of the Conference Organising Committee, affirmed that hosting the sixth edition of the conference reflects Qatar’s growing stature as a leading regional and international hub for dispute resolution. He noted that Qatar continues to advance the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) framework in line with global best practices and standards.He explained that the conference is being organised in cooperation with the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) as a co‑organiser, with the support and active participation of several prominent international and regional institutions, including the World Bank’s International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), the Oman Arbitration Centre, and the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA).He said this broad institutional participation underscores the conference’s importance as a key platform for dialogue and the exchange of expertise in the field of alternative dispute resolution.Sheikh Thani noted that the conference theme reflects the rapid developments taking place in the region in arbitration, conciliation, and mediation. These developments highlight the need for continued international dialogue on the future of ADR and its ability to keep pace with legal and technological transformations.He stated that the conference will bring together leading arbitrators, legal practitioners, academics, and representatives of regional and international dispute resolution institutions to discuss emerging trends and major challenges in international arbitration and ADR.Sheikh Thani emphasised QICCA’s commitment to promoting a culture of arbitration and fostering the exchange of legal and arbitration expertise globally, while contributing to a more efficient and flexible business and investment environment.

A delegation from the Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) at Qatar Chamber participated in a forum titled "Building Bridges in ADR: MENA meets Singapore”, held in Singapore as part of the Singapore Convention Week on Mediation 2025.The delegation was led by QICCA Vice-Chairman Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani and included Secretary-General Ibrahim Shahbik.The participation reflected QICCA's commitment to enhancing its international presence, showcasing its role in advancing commercial arbitration in Qatar and the Middle East, and exchanging expertise with leading institutions and experts at this global legal event.Speaking in the forum’s first session, Sheikh Dr Thani highlighted Qatari Arbitration Law and the Center's rules, showcasing Qatar's experience in promoting arbitration and supporting its development through various measures stipulated under Arbitration Law No. 2 of 2017.He also outlined the key features of Qatari Mediation Law and emphasised the role of mediation in resolving disputes, stressing that Qatar was among the first countries in the Middle East to join the Singapore Convention on Mediation. He noted that this reflects Qatar’s belief in the importance of alternative dispute resolution in fostering economic development and encouraging investment.The session also discussed the role of alternative dispute resolution institutions in shaping dispute resolution mechanisms and supporting trade and investment in the Middle East and North Africa region.
