 The Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) participated in the UK-GCC Strategic Dialogue, recently organised by The Business Year, under the patronage of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), in London.  The participation reinforced QFZ’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation, attracting high-value international investment and advancing industrial development between Qatar, the UK, and the wider Gulf region.  QFZ CEO Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal al-Thani participated in the leadership roundtable titled ‘Infrastructure, Industrial Transformation & Strategic Growth’, which explored the role of free zones, infrastructure and industrial development in shaping the next phase of UK-GCC investment. The dialogue brought together senior policymakers, investors and business leaders to discuss opportunities for deeper trade and investment cooperation.  “Qatar and the UK share a strong foundation of economic cooperation, with significant opportunities to deepen collaboration across technology, industry and investment. At QFZ, our focus is on attracting businesses that bring specialised expertise, strengthen local capabilities and create long-term value,” Sheikh Mohammed said  He added: “Through our integrated infrastructure, strategic connectivity and dedicated investor support, we provide international companies with a competitive platform to establish operations, access regional markets and grow, while contributing to Qatar’s economic diversification.”  During the leadership roundtable, Sheikh Mohammed highlighted Qatar’s growing position as an international investment destination and the importance of economic resilience in supporting long-term growth.  He also underscored the scale of UK-Qatar economic ties, with bilateral trade reaching £5.8bn (approximately QR28.1bn) and Qatari investment in the UK exceeding £40bn (approximately QR194.1bn). More than 40 British companies are currently registered within QFZ, demonstrating the established presence of British businesses across key sectors. 

Higher education institutions across Qatar have signalled a shared commitment to providing the nation’s university students with the services and support systems that help them excel, at the inaugural edition of a conference held under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) and hosted by Qatar Foundation (QF).The Qatar Higher Education Student Affairs and Services Conference, which took place at Multaqa (Education City Student Centre), saw university leaders and representatives explore how their students are currently supported beyond the lecture hall and the laboratory – from wellbeing and accessibility to leadership and career development opportunities – and how collaboration can elevate their university experience even further.The Qatar Higher Education Student Affairs and Services Consortium was formed this year, with the QF instrumental in its establishment, and its board represents 11 institutions.Its goal, outlined at the conference, is “to help us serve our students better, and together”.Speaking at the conference – which saw a panel of students share their experiences and perspectives – higher education leaders from the QF emphasised how Qatar can create its own model for ensuring its students have the best university experience possible, rather than importing practices from elsewhere, if ideas and knowledge are shared across its education landscape.Dr Abdulnassir al-Tamimi, executive director of Student Services within the QF’s Higher Education division and newly appointed chair of the consortium, spoke about how students’ needs are changing rapidly beyond the classroom as well as within it, whether it is mental health challenges, artificial intelligence (AI) changing the way they learn, financial pressures, or uncertainty about whether jobs will be available when they graduate.He emphasised how these challenges extend far beyond the classroom, meaning the work of those involved in student affairs and services matters more than ever.“Qatar has invested significantly in education, bringing together a remarkable diversity of institutions, people, and ideas,” Dr al-Tamimi told the conference. “We should not simply look elsewhere for good ideas or best practice. We should collaborate, innovate, and help to create the next best practice here in Qatar.”“However, we cannot do that effectively if we work in isolation,” he said. “There is tremendous knowledge across all our institutions. Imagine what becomes possible when we can connect all that knowledge, experience, and creativity.”“That is why this consortium matters,” Dr al-Tamimi added. “It gives us a platform to learn from one another, develop our professionals, share research and good practice, create communities of practice, and find solutions to challenges we all share.”Among the aims of the Qatar Higher Education Student Affairs and Services Consortium is to provide year-round professional development and a professional certification for those working in the field of student affairs in Qatar, with the practices it develops and enables potentially being shared with higher education institutions elsewhere in the region – reflecting Qatar’s role as a regional driver of educational quality and innovation.“A student’s university experience is shaped by much more than what happens in the classroom,” said Francisco Marmolejo, president of Higher Education and Education at the QF. “It is shaped by whether they feel they belong, whether they are supported when they face challenges, whether they have opportunities to discover their strengths, develop their leadership, build relationships, and prepare themselves for life beyond university.”“Creating that experience requires committed professionals across many areas of our institutions, and it requires collaboration,” he said.“Collectively, there is an extraordinary amount of knowledge, experience, and creativity across Qatar’s higher education institutions,” Marmolejo added. “And when we come together around issues that affect students across our campuses, our collective impact can be far greater than anything we can achieve individually.”“Qatar has created a unique higher education environment,” he said. “We now have an opportunity to make it even more connected, collaborative, innovative, and student-centred. Because, while our institutions may be different, our purpose brings us together: our students, our community, and the future of Qatar.”In his keynote address, Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham, founder and vice chairman of Barzan University College in Qatar, positioned student affairs and student services as integral to education and the development of human potential.His central message is the importance of learning from global experience while building an approach rooted in Qatar’s values and context, with students being active partners in shaping their educational experience so that it is designed with them, not simply for them.Dr al-Derham proposed four commitments for the Qatar Higher Education Student Affairs and Services Consortium: build a lasting professional community, share practices and develop common frameworks, invest in professional development and wellbeing, and establish a shared evidence base on the student experience in Qatar.

Qatar has lined up three international friendlies against Australia, South Korea and Saudi Arabia in November and December as coach Julen Lopetegui steps up preparations for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.The two-time Asian champions will open their programme against Australia on November 13 at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, with kick-off at 5:45pm. They will then face South Korea at the same venue on November 17 before travelling to Al Khobar to take on hosts Saudi Arabia on December 27.The matches will provide Qatar with valuable tests against established Asian sides ahead of the continental showpiece, which is scheduled to run from January 7 to February 5, 2027.Qatar are bidding to become the first team to win three consecutive Asian Cup titles after lifting the trophy in 2019 and 2023.The three opponents will offer different challenges. Australia won the Asian Cup in 2015, South Korea have claimed two titles, while Saudi Arabia will seek a fourth continental crown on home soil.Qatar's preparations follow their Gulf Cup campaign, which ended with a semi-final defeat against Saudi Arabia.At the Asian Cup draw, Qatar are placed in Group F alongside four-time champions Japan, Thailand and Indonesia. Japan will pose the toughest challenge on paper as Qatar pursue an unprecedented third successive title.Hosts Saudi Arabia are in Group A with Kuwait, Oman and Palestine, while Australia will compete in Group D alongside Tajikistan, Iraq and Singapore. South Korea were drawn in Group E with the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Yemen.The tournament is scheduled to go ahead as planned despite security concerns following a deadly attack on Riyadh that has disrupted other major sporting events in Saudi Arabia, due to its conflict with Yemen's Houthi.Asian Football Confederation president Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa said earlier this week that postponing the tournament until 2028 remained a possibility if necessary. However, the local organising committee has said that preparations were continuing according to the original timetable.

Barzan Holdings at Milipol Qatar 2026, showcasing 12 new Made-in-Qatar innovations and advancing the future of defence

The Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind (QSCCB), of the Ministry of Culture, staged a human development workshop to strengthen self-confidence and self-esteem, present practical methods for developing personal character, and help participants withstand life and career challenges.Presenting the workshop, trainer Jawahir Al Rumaihi addressed self-confidence as an individual's belief in their capabilities and potential to achieve goals and navigate difficulties. She highlighted the importance of self-awareness, personal values, and accepting one's available potential.The gathering further discussed the significance of self-confidence in enhancing mental health, human performance, and success, as well as mitigating the impact of psychological stress. It also examined the role of self-confidence and self-esteem in building positive social relationships founded on effective communication and mutual respect.Al Rumaihi outlined the foremost challenges that may impair an individual's self-confidence, including fear of failure, excessive self-criticism, comparison with others, and previous negative experiences. She underscored the importance of recognizing these challenges and making every effort to overcome them through positive approaches.The workshop delved into the substantive role of religious foundations, including the Holy Quran and Prophetic Sunnah, alongside psychological expertise, in strengthening self-confidence, fostering self-esteem, and supporting mental health and positive human behavior.The trainer also outlined practical strategies, including recognizing strengths and areas for improvement, self-acceptance, countering negative thoughts, setting realistic goals, and reinforcing a balanced self-image through positive affirmations.The workshop underscored the substantial role of self-confidence in enhancing professional performance, productivity, leadership and communication skills, and career advancement. These skills are as valuable to personal development as they are to professional growth, helping solidify the foundations for success in both areas.The event also reflected QSCCB's unremitting commitment to putting into practice cultural, awareness-raising, and developmental programs that bolster members' personal and social skills, augment their capabilities, and foster substantive, active engagement in society. 

The value of real estate transactions registered under sales contracts in Qatar reached QR1,754,432,853 in September 2026, with transaction value rising 36%, the number of properties sold increasing 17%, and the total area traded expanding 62%, according to the Ministry of Justice's Real Estate Analytical Bulletin. A total of 495 property sale transactions were registered during the month. Doha, Al Rayyan and Umm Salal recorded the highest transaction values among the country's municipalities. Doha led with QR536,165,930 in transactions, followed by Al Rayyan at QR514,135,366 and Umm Salal at QR235,799,614. Al Wakrah ranked fourth with QR210,930,513, followed by Al Daayen at QR185,200,694, Al Khor and Al Thakhira at QR55,790,295, Al Shamal at QR14,085,976, and Al Shahaniya at QR2,324,465. In terms of total traded area, Al Rayyan accounted for the largest share at 35%, followed by Umm Salal at 20%, Doha at 17%, Al Wakrah at 15%, Al Khor and Al Thakhira at 3%, and Al Shamal at 2%. Al Rayyan also accounted for the largest share of properties sold, at 29%, followed by Doha at 28% and Al Wakrah at 15%. Al Daayen accounted for 11%, Umm Salal for 10%, Al Khor and Al Thakhira for 5%, and Al Shamal for 2%. Average prices per square foot ranged from QR472 to QR807 in Doha, QR248 to QR459 in Al Wakrah, QR375 to QR376 in Al Rayyan, QR281 to QR477 in Umm Salal, QR370 to QR560 in Al Daayen, QR305 to QR401 in Al Khor and Al Thakhira, and QR135 to QR183 in Al Shamal. In Al Shahaniya, the average price stood at QR166 per square foot.  Mortgage transactions totalled 229 in September, with a combined value of QR5,114,311,244. Doha recorded the highest number of mortgage transactions, at 120, accounting for 52.4% of the total. Al Rayyan followed with 45 transactions (19.7%), and Al Daayen with 35 (15.3%). Al Wakrah recorded 11 transactions (4.8%), while Umm Salal and Al Khor and Al Thakhira each registered eight (3.5%). Al Shamal recorded two mortgage transactions, representing 0.9% of the total. Doha also recorded the highest mortgage value, at QR4,401,934,894, while Al Shamal registered the lowest, at QR11,691,000. The share of mortgage transaction value exceeded the corresponding share of transaction numbers in Doha, while the opposite was the case in the other municipalities.Doha accounted for nine of the 10 highest-value mortgage transactions, while Al Daayen accounted for one. The 10 transactions represented 79% of the total value of mortgage transactions recorded during the month. Residential unit sales totalled 176 transactions, with a combined value of QR280,854,742. The bulletin highlighted continued activity across Qatar's real estate investment and commercial segments amid legislative and regulatory developments concerning real estate brokerage, registration and documentation, ownership and usufruct rights, as well as measures aimed at attracting domestic and foreign capital. The data also underscore the strength and resilience of the Qatari economy and the continued growth of the real estate sector as one of its key components.
