Tottenham Hotspur interim coach Igor Tudor has been criticised for his treatment of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky after substituting him after 17 minutes of his side’s 5-2 loss at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on ‌Tuesday. Tudor sprung a surprise by dropping regular keeper Guglielmo Vicario for the ​last-16 first leg tie and ‌handing Czech Kinsky his first start since October. But the move backfired ‌in spectacular fashion as Tottenham conceded ‌three goals in the opening 15 minutes - ‌two of them resulting from glaring errors by the young keeper. Tudor immediately sent on Vicario, the Croat standing stony-faced as a stunned Kinsky headed for the sanctuary of the dressing room. “He’s (Tudor) made decisions that he maybe thinks is going to one, keep him in a job, or two, keep Tottenham in the Premier League and performances are going to turn around,” former Leeds United, Tottenham and England keeper Paul Robinson told the BBC. “It was a very selfish decision (to substitute him) ​as a manager. “I think he brought Kinsky in tonight thinking that if he does well I have got an excuse to keep him in now until the end of the season. He ‌reverted on that decision very, very early on ​in the game. “It’s quite blatantly for self preservation by the manager because ​it was a decision that he thought was best for him and his team at the time, without consideration for the young goalkeeper.” Joe Hart said he was shocked by Tudor’s treatment of Kinsky. “The whole stadium is feeling sorry for him. He walks past Igor Tudor - and he doesn’t even acknowledge him. If that’s man-management, I am flabbergasted,” the former England keeper, who also had a spell at Tottenham, said. “He’s had a bad moment, a slip, and then another bad moment. But the fact he (Tudor) has taken him off, at 22, to just ‌rip him off, how is ‌that good for him?” Atletico coach Diego Simeone said he had never seen anything like it before and there was even sympathy from Atletico’s fans and players. “Mentally, it must be very tough for the goalkeeper. It wasn’t the best solution,” French striker Antoine Griezmann said. Support also came from former Manchester United keeper David de Gea. “No one who hasn’t been a goalkeeper can understand how difficult it is to play in this position. Keep your head up and you will go again,” the Spaniard said on ​X. The defeat set an unwanted record for Tottenham who suffered a sixth successive loss for the first time in the club’s history. It also raised serious questions about whether Tudor will remain in his post. He replaced Thomas Frank last month with a reputation for helping turn around clubs in trouble but he has lost all four of his games in charge and if anything relegated-threatened Tottenham’s performances have deteriorated. “I need to apologise to the fans, to everyone. It’s incredibly difficult to explain, at least ‌for the first 20 ​minutes, I’ve never seen in my life, things like this. It’s very strange to explain,” Tudor said.

Indian Premier League champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will start the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad at ‌the Chinnaswamy Stadium on March ​28 after the ‌Indian cricket board Wednesday ‌announced the schedule ‌for the first phase ‌of the campaign. The BCCI released only the first phase of the schedule, covering matches from March 28 to April 12, as three states are scheduled to undergo State Assembly elections. The remaining fixtures will be released once the poll ​dates are announced. Mumbai Indians, joint record five-times champions, launch their campaign at home to the ‌Kolkata Knight Riders on March ​29. Fellow five-time winners Chennai Super ​Kings begin the following day when they travel to face the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. Matches in Bengaluru remain subject to clearance from an expert committee nominated by the Government of Karnataka. The Chinnaswamy Stadium has not staged any cricket with fans since a stampede ‌killed 11 people ‌in June while RCB supporters were celebrating the team’s maiden IPL title outside the arena. RCB are slated to play five home matches in Bengaluru and two in Raipur during this year’s IPL. “The committee will conduct a meeting and inspection of ​the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 13, 2026, during which a full-scale mock demonstration of match-day arrangements will be carried out to assess the stadium’s preparedness for hosting IPL matches,” the BCCI said in a statement. The IPL runs from March 28 ‌to May ​31. 

Qatar participated in the Arab League Council extraordinary session at the ministerial level, held Sunday via video conferencing.Qatar’s representation at the meeting was headed by His Excellency the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi.The meeting discussed the Iranian attacks on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of several Arab countries, which constitute a flagrant violation of international laws and charters as well as the principles of good neighborliness.It also addressed the serious risks these actions pose to the security and stability of Arab states and the region.

Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz has been ruled out of today’s game at bottom side Wolverhampton ‌Wanderers in the Premier League ​but Dutch full-back ‌Jeremie Frimpong is available, manager ‌Arne Slot has ‌said. Wirtz, who suffered a ‌back injury warming up ahead of last month’s visit to Nottingham Forest, missed the 5-2 home win over West Ham United on Saturday. “I think that (Tuesday’s game) will be too early,” Slot told reporters with fifth-placed Liverpool targeting ​a fourth straight league win when they visit Wolves. “I didn’t expect him (Wirtz) not to be ‌available for today, so sometimes ​things can develop in a positive ​or negative way in an injury, now we are thinking it doesn’t have to be too long, but Tuesday will probably be too early. The week after will be tight as things stand now.” Frimpong made an encouraging impact off the bench against West Ham ‌during the final ‌minutes but Slot was cautious regarding his workload during a packed schedule. “Having Jeremie back is really nice but it (injury) does go through your mind because we play three games in seven days ... especially with players coming back from injuries,” Slot ​said. “I prefer to have this problem ... rather than see him with the medical staff working on his recovery.” While Wolves have only two wins this season, Slot cautioned against complacency, noting their competitiveness. “We know that we are going to face a difficult ‌game tomorrow,” ​he added. Meanwhile, Slot said that the growing reliance on set pieces in the Premier League has sucked some of the joy out of football but accepts it is the new reality. Last season’s champions struggled with dead-ball situations both defensively and in attacking areas earlier in the campaign. But seven of their past nine Premier League goals have come from set pieces, including three following corners in Saturday’s 5-2 win against West Ham at Anfield. Premier League leaders Arsenal are renowned as the set-piece kings and on Sunday scored their 16th goal from a corner this season – equalling the league record. “First of all, you have to accept it. I think it’s mainly here in the Premier League,” Slot said. “If I watch other leagues, I don’t think there’s so much emphasis on set pieces.” The Liverpool manager said he felt goalkeepers in the Premier League were given less protection by match officials than those in other leagues such as the Dutch top division. “Here you can almost hit a goalkeeper in his face and the referee still says just go on,” said the Dutchman. “Do I like it? My football heart doesn’t like it.” Slot said he used to look forward to watching the great Barcelona side of Pep Guardiola, who were renowned for their silky, possession-based football. “Now, most of the games I see in the Premier League are not for me a joy to watch,” he said. “But it’s always interesting because it’s so competitive, and that is what makes this league great, because there’s so much competitiveness, everyone can beat everyone.”

The Arab League condemned in the strongest rems the Iranian attacks on Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.In a statement issued Saturday, the Arab League General Secretariat considered the missile attacks a blatant violation of the sovereignty of peace-loving nations that have worked to achieve stability and have not participated in war. The statement expressed full solidarity with the Arab states in confronting these attacks and support for any measures they take to defend themselves and protect their people.The statement emphasised that Arab states have taken clear positions on the Iranian crisis by rejecting military action against Tehran, and Arab states have exerted tremendous efforts to mediate and avert the escalation being witnessed today. It also warned of the immense danger inherent in the current situation in the region, urging all active parties in the international community to work towards de-escalation as quickly as possible, to spare the region the devastating consequences of widening instability and violence, and to return to dialogue.

Tottenham interim boss Igor Tudor has admitted his struggling side are not fit enough as he pledged to "put some petrol in the engine" to avoid relegation.Tudor has arrived in north London with Tottenham embroiled in a battle to avoid playing in the second tier for the first time since 1977-78. Tottenham have won only two of their last 18 matches in the Premier League and sit just four points above the relegation zone ahead of today's trip to Fulham.Tudor, hired as a temporary replacement for the sacked Thomas Frank, knows his players' physical condition is a key to their hopes of beating the drop. Traditionally a coach who demands a high level of intensity, the Croatian conceded his squad haven't been able to match the required levels."Physically, I believe, we are not in an amazing situation," Tudor said. "They have played lots of games in the last period without lots of players available and it meant the physical condition of the team has dropped down. So, we need to use this period where we don't play the games to put some petrol in the engine so the engine starts to work better. They are fatigued. To do the pressing high you need to be fit, but all of them because if someone is not in the right shape, there is a problem because someone is coming late. For sure, we will improve and do these things better over time, but in this moment it's a big question what we can do and what we cannot do."Clips have already gone viral of Tudor getting Tottenham players to do runs in training in scenes reminiscent of pre-season. Given Tottenham's tendency to produce only one strong half of football in matches under Frank, their conditioning is not a new problem.Tudor pushed back at suggestions his methods may be too hard for them to cope with amid a gruelling season. "No, never punishing. That's the only way - running. The pitch is 100 yards. You say yards here, 100 yards, it's long, so you need to run," he said. "There are habits. Maybe you have habits to... I don't know... work a bit less? I put some runs without the ball. Players never like runs without the ball!"
